SummaryTrade a Garlaige Coffer key to a treasure coffer in Garlaige Citadel to obtain your Warlock's Tights. WalkthroughYou must have completed The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1 and activated Borghertz's Vermillion Hands to obtain this quest. Head to Garlaige Citadel and acquire a Garlaige Coffer Key. Keys drop from enemies such as vault weapons, over weapons, Hellmines, Magic Jugs, Fallen Mages and Fallen Majors. Once you have the key, you must find a treasure coffer. All of the coffer spawn points are behind banishing gates, which require a total of four people to open (each person stands on a switch to open the gates) -- the gates may also be bypassed using Garlaige Citadel (S) and the Sparkling Light mini-quest.(I Do Not Recommend This) Treasure coffers spawn behind Banishing Gate #3 at G-6, I-5 and I-7. Behind Banishing Gate #2, coffers spawn at G-8, H-8 and I-7. You must have your job set as red mage when you open this coffer. Trade your coffer key to the coffer to receive your Warlock's Tights. A word of advice for any coffer hunting: Once you have the key, make a macro to use it. For this coffer, I did /item "Grl. Coffer Key" <t>
It was a footrace between me and another RDM to the coffer, and since I had the macro, I got claim over it. Had I done the normal trading method, he would have won it.

If I had known this earlier...it would have saved a lot of trouble.
I was looking for my coffer, and needed a 4th person to open the gates. So I invited a 75 THF. I didn't really have my suspicions until she was running ahead of me, as if she wanted to get to the coffer first. Sure enough, she got to the coffer before me, tried to open it, failed, got agro from the Flesh, and somehow opened the coffer. After that she nearly died from it, but warped. She didn't even say thank you for helping her open the gates to steal MY coffer. -.- I could have opened it just in time before she tried her 2nd attempt at opening it.

getting the key for this coffer is easy.
i just dropped down first hole in floor when i GC and u find hellmines, fallen mages etc.
they drop the coffer key.
i was rdm/blm 63, and my freind was pld/war 62. took about 30 mins gettin key.
making sure the mage is silenced u kill em easy.
but im still looking for coffer in the 4 spawn points behind banishing gate 2 lol.

yes you do need to be rdm to recive the item any equipment you get driectly from the coffer you need to be the appropriate job but if you recive key items for the example the rdm gloves and boots then you can be any job you will still recive the key item.

Anyone can comfirm if you need to be a RDM when you open the coffers in Eldieme Necropolis, Ctdl and Castle Oztroja to get the RDM AF pieces of the job isnt really matters? Thanks in advance...

i had my coffer key already and i took 4 ppl with me 63blm, 61blm, 61whm, and a 56mnk. the mnk aslo needed the coffer and all 5 of us were ls mates so we need not fight over it. we both just /random it. we started behind BG2 and checked the spawn points several times then decided to look past BG3. bad idea. we checked there, found nothing, then went back past BG2 to find someone else get the coffer just in front of us.
i checked several places and found that the coffer has a 30min respawn. so we decided to hope to get lucky and just camp in the 4 spots behind BG2. after 1 hour (almost to the minute) the coffer popped. as stated before, the mnk and i used /random to decide who got the spoils first. i was the lucky one and now sport my warlock tights proudly. the coffer popped at the NE part of G-8 behind the second BG. we chilled another hour and i decided to go to BG3. i was gonna check there and let the other 4 camp the 4 spots while i checked the last area alone. as we get to the gate breech the mnk yells (in pt chat) "|Treasure Coffer|, |Found It!|" he runs up to it to find a camper take it infront of him. this spawn spot was at the tainted flesh just SW of my coffer spot.
at the time of this post we are still tryin to get the mnk his coffer but that was 3 spawns in a row behind BG2 and they all happened almost exactly 1 hour after the previous one was found. i hope this helps everyone out and if you want to see the map for coffer pops then use the link provided by ThePervataru

Right, I can't start this quest for some reason, I'm a RDM56 and I finished Borghertz' Vermillion Hands... O:
It's not really a quest. You have to start the hands quest to allow the slacks to pop out of the coffer, but there's not really a quest starter for this one. As long as you've started the Hands quest, you just have to find the coffer key in garlaige and a coffer, and you can get the tights right from the coffer without dealing with a quest.

okok umm how do i tell if ive started this "quest" or not cuz ive done Fencing degen and all that but i cant tell if ive started id hate to go all the way to garlaige and get to chest and find i havent started the quest thingy

Ignore the crazy tarutaru it all makes sence now because i hadnt completeted my blm gloves i recieved them even though i opened coffer as rdm and kill darkspark as rdm.

I think what you meant is that you got lucky. It so happens that, I did as well. Fought 2 "Fallen Majors" and it dropped. Took my lv 71 Sam and 75 whm buddy of mine came to help.
Funny thing is, after getting the coffer key in the 2nd fight, an elemental popped. We decide to take it on and guess what it drops, the chest key LOL.

Pretty easy,
I read all the info in here and got my key off a tainted flesh with 74 thf friend, (me57rdm), took about 15 mins-----props to Rubin, went through 1st banishing gate and my coffer was kickin it right thurr. Nice and easy!

I have tried 2 times totalling about 4 hours trying to get this stupid coffer behind the second banishing gate and nothing. First time I fell off the ledge and couldn't get back on, and the second time I got aggro from a hellmine and died.
I have just been systematically going between the four spawn spots there, no one else looking for them and they just weren't there. What's ironic it took just 3 fights to get the coffer key. Man this is frustrating...

Nice piece of equipment. Worth the hassles.

(Thanks Elvandra, Aidaen, Omegabenny, Rustalot) and also Eltaru and Sopo.
Sopo also got key! ;)
Went to find chest with Sopo and after she died a couple of times ; ; I eventually found myself with invisi wearing right in the middle of about 15 hellmines...><
Chainspell/Warp - lying dead in Jeuno (3rd time thats happened lol)
So gonna go for it again today at some point...
It does suck in here if you are low enough to get agro.
But overall, if you get the key, print off the maps, and it shouldnt be too hard.
There are a lot worse AF's than this ;)

and totalled just over 2 hours to get 3 coffers ;)
Each time the spawn went between the 2nd and 3rd banishing gate which was a bit of a pain in the ass, and I died twice after forgetting about invisi with the bomb at the first trip to the switch, and then dying again after raise =P
But whats a bit of xp? =D

Hey all it's Syn^^
I see a few questions here that I will try to provide answers to.
1. A few peeps seem to think that you need to speak to Guslam for the tights...you do not, it is a coffer all you need is the coffer key and to find the coffer to recieve the tights. You do however need to have your gloves AF quest either started or completed, that requires that you speak with the galka.
2. Mobs that drop the keys: Hellmines do drop frequently, however you will need some good help to keep up with those(depending on lvl). Fallen Mages, Fallen Majors, Tainted Flesh, Magic Pots, and Vault Weapons. Personally I we stayed away from the Tainted Flesh because it is friggin crazy^^.
3. Party setup: Can be a regular set up if you wish but no less than four(55 on up), to ensure that you can get the gates open(Banishing Gate #1(I-9), and Banishing Gate #2(H-9)). When I went we had a WHM75, DRK56, RDM56<<me, and another WHM55.(BTW the high WHM had a Kraken club and she rokked!!)just make sure you have healing and debuffs(divine seal + erase is a beautiful thing^^)as you will need it.
4. Good Camp: There is a really good camp to pull Fallen Mages and Fallen Majors located on MAP 3 at J-8(same map as the incinerator). It is a "secret room", like the one in crawlers nest with a false wall. Remember to sneak/invis up if neccesary to avoid aggro. Lots of key droppin bones there. Pull to your hearts content,keep in mind though they will link if they are too close. The cool thing about this camp is there are 4 spawn points for coffers on this map.
5. Finding the actual coffer: Well to be honest with you the best place to get your coffer is behind Banishing Gate #3. Spawn rate there is really high. However it is a pain in the Arse to get there, or well it can be. So on map three there are four spawn points. On your way to the incinerator @ I-7, the Tainted Flesh spawn point @ H-8, in the alcove @ G-8, and one at the Western most point of the map @ E-8.
When I did this I got my key on MAP 1 playin around with bones with my MNK frined(big shout outs to Warmachine for soloin dem bones). After that we headed to MAP 3 to camp Coffers. Unfortunately I had to go though. So he showed me the spawn where he got his and I logged there. It was at the bend of the stairs heading to the incinerator(I-7). When I logged back in later it wasn't there so I went running around and got myself killed...lol. As soon as I got back to Jeuno I got the invite from the 75WHM. So we headed back. Made it to the "secret room" camp and fought for a while. The WHM and the DRK needed the key. We got em after bout an hour and I went scouting the I-7 Spawn for the coffer, low and behold it was there, I popped it and got me tights!! Not five mins later the coffer appeared again in the same spot!!!. DRK got that one. On the way out we got the Third coffer in the alcove for the other WHM. All Treasure Coffers obtained within 25 mins.

I's pass through gate1(3 friends open gate 1) then I ran around and found gate2 and gate3.
Do I need 4 ppl to open gate 2&3. I couldn't find any machanic to open gate 2 or 3. And there are a lot of mobs infront of those gate. I've try drop inv and open yet. I will go again tonight. Just wonder that I can open Gate2 & 3 alone or not.

i dont know anything about the third gate (never seen it) but you still need 4 ppl to open the second, it works with switches just like the first but they arent right in front of the gate, theres 4 rooms in the wallway the gate comes off of, 1 switch in each room. be carefull cuz pots and bombs can spawn in those rooms. hope this helps

I did this today im a 40rdm, help from 2 LS members (68 RNG and a 50 DRG) it was EASY !!
the nm was there when we got thier and the storage hole was pretty easy to find =) .. i just needed invis so that i wouldnt get aggroed, i stood back and watched them fight it =^-^= yayyeah

Ok, you're wrong with some of the info on the RDM AF1 set. I will put this the order which i'm going to get them. FYI - i have 3 parts already. On a side note about it being repeatable...I wouldn't want to drop my AF to find out if they're repeatable or not so i wouldn't drop them to test it.
1st - Fencing Degen - Person in the bar in South Sandy will tell you to get a Davoi Storage Key from a NM in Davoi and take it back to the guy in the bar in South Sandy
2nd - Warlock Boots - gotten in Crawler's Nest. You have to talk to Cruella(not sure on spelling) in the Chateau(spelling again) and she'll give you an old watch(if i remember). Get velvet cloth and go to the chruch in North Sandy...go in the basement and the friar there will tell you which cloth. i put velvet cause i think that's the right 1. You'll get a pair of old boots and, not to mention, thrown out of the chruch. Head back to what's her name and she'll tell you how to purify them(1 of the prince's walks in and says it i think). Now here's the weird part cause i helped another RDM with this. We went to Crawler's Nest to get the Crawler's Blood from the TREASURE CHEST and NOT the TREASURE COFFER! From here, we had to go back to Cruella and she said to bury the boots in the Crawler's Nest...i'll leave that up to you to find.
3rd - Warlock Gloves - Talk to the person in Upper Jeuno armor shop(forgot name) to start the quest. NOTE: this will start the next 2 AF quests. Get an Eld. Necro. coffer key and find the coffer to get Old Gloves(i think), now go back to the armor shop in upper jeuno and then go see 1 of the ppl at the tenshodo and pay 1,000 gil to learn where you have to go next. :P
4th - Warlock Tights - get a Garbage sh*tadel, you know what i mean ><, coffer key and find the coffer chest. Bingo, if you're lvl 56, you can wear them, if not, lvl some more.
5th - Warlock Tabard - get a Castle Oztraja(stupid Yag capital of the game world) coffer key and find the coffer. Bingo, if you're lvl 58, you can wear it. If not...well...
6th and FINAL AF1 Set - Warlack Chapeau - This is the 1 you go back to the bar in South Sandy and talk to the person you talked to about the POS Degen. Talk to the guy behind the bar and he'll talk about Fei'Yin and you gotta kill Miser Murphy to get the coin. I THINK you have to throw it in the fountain. If you can't throw it in the fountain, you hang onto it and take it to the GALKA in the bar and he'll talk about Garbage sh*tadel nail puller blah blah blah. PLEASE make sure you have a HIGH lvl tank cause i've heard horror stories of that NM fight. Also, instead of you looking for a full alliance for this...find 2 other RDM's so they can get 1 party each so you're not stuck getting 17 ppl to do this.

im a 56 rdm i have all AF up till this point and i have the quest 4 AF3 (body piece) started. so im just wonderin why that stupid galka wont give me the quest if u have any ide let me know i have coffer key also the mobs arent to bad me and a blm bothe 56 took on these mobs of coarse i tanked id say there high 50's or mabe low 60's but at any rate the easiest 1's would be the tomb warriors but thats just my opinion

Sorry about the double post >< Well, I did get my tights!! =D There is NOT a quest for the tights, and you do NOT have to be 56 to get them from the coffer, just in case anyone besides myself was wondering.I got my coffer from behind the third gate (this is a good idea if you are camping it awile, there is a zone right there in case there is trouble)There are 3 spawning points there, and from what i seen while i was there, not too many ppl ( always nice^^) Good luck to all who are trying ^^

I got my key off a Wraith, did not know they dropped keys but it agroed our puller and bam a key. Now that I have this key I also have a map of where chests spawn, Behind the first gate there are 3 coffer spawns and 8 chest spawns, the only problem is the coffers seem to be up sets of broken stair and I can not get up them. Do you have to from back from behind the second gate to get to those areas? Only lvl 54. So I just popped in on a ride hitch to take a peek. And I'm not sure where second gate is, if you could give me it's grid I would be very thankful.

Aliiyah...you are talking about the gloves, they are asking about the red tights.As to whether or not you need a quest for them i will tell you tomorrow (I am going to try for the coffer tonight in Garlaige) I will keep you posted.

Aliiyah, the quest you are talking about is for the gloves, they are talking about the red tights..as to whether or not you need the quest i will tell you for certain tomorrow ( i am going tonight to get the coffer in garlaige)

you probably got the key from garlaige citadel which is needed for your AF4 but you hadn't gotten the quest for your AF3 (gloves) yet, that's why when you went and talked to Guslam you started your AF3 quest. But that had nothing to do with you getting the key in Garlaige Citadel.

hope this helps.. i found that map of all the coffer and treasure pops under the pld AF quest in garliage.. there is a link there. i just kept checking all the af quests in garliage.

lol it doesnt say it rewards u the coffer. thats just a requirement for the quest.

So basically what it says up there is that once you activate your AF hands, you can open a coffer in the Citadel and get your leggings?
Min level 56? Ack, I'm only 53 and my party is going coffer hunting tomorrow night! Does this mean I'll get a regular item from the coffer instead? I've done the rest of the requirments for the quest... sigh...

i got the key from weapons, it was me (drk 64) a thf/nin 68 tanking and a whm 55, not much trouble...

Yes indeed, if some1 has any info on this, I'd like to know too. I'm finding it too difficult to find a party for the Oztroja Coffer Key, and can often see shouts in Jeuno for this one instead.

It's not, I'm guessing it was just misplaced information, an average mistake.
Yeah, it was misplaced information - It has been fixed as of today (8/24/04). Now everyone can't get the Oztroja coffer key from a Garlaige coffer chest. ^^ (dang, that would've been much easier for me if it was otherwise - that the coffer also drops the Oztroja key...)
Hey, I got some priorities with my RDM AF collection - would be nice to get two birds with one stone. :-P

Hellmines drop coffer keys at a pretty good rate.....party/alliance of 9 we had there got coffer keys for all in about 2-2 1/2 hours. They have a pretty tough self destruct though, just like all bombs. We found the mines down in the Chamber Beetle room pulling through a small tunnel.

Got the coffer last night behind door #3 (6 hours of camping btw) by the wraith, and chainspell warped myself out of there before the Wraith even hit me 3 times! w00t! Getting past the banishing gates and having some patience once you get there are all that you need besides the key. Good Luck everyone, and a special thanks goes out to a level 71 RDM tarutaru named Dookie (who is quite the Uber RDM btw) on the Phoenix server. Thanks everyone that has helped me along, I wouldn't have got where I am without you folks!

For anyone curious as to the difficulty of obtaining the coffer key, I'd say it's no where near as hard as Beaudeax or Eldieme Necropolis. The mobs were all DC-T to the 60 THF who was pulling (we did not pull any wraiths, most fallen mages/majors, and the occasionall jug). Our alliance set up was as follows:

51 THF/NIN
55 RDM/WHM
55 RDM/BLM
55 MNK/DRK
55 MNK/DRK
53 WHM/BLM
Notice the absence of vokers, the THFs simply tricked off the monks and it worked relatively well (though admittedly an actual tank would have made it easier). I (RDM/WHM) and the WHM stayed back and cured while all others meleed. You want to keep the mages out of the way (or make sure they have stoneskin up) because sometimes the bones will spam blood saber (we saw one do it three times in 30 seconds).
The drop rate was amazing. ...for the first 30 minutes. In the first 30 minutes we got three of the five coffer keys we needed, but in the hour that followed we had none. The only death resulted when the THF aggroed a wraith while pulling a fallen mage. Other than that it was relatively pain free.

The name of the quest is not as above in the description. The name for RDM AF quests gloves are called Borghertz's Vermillion Hands.
