Treasure and Tribulations  

So I did this today expecting to pick the wrong box. Was planning on duoing it RDM and NIN. So we buffed and all that good stuff then I ran in and attacked the Small Box. It turned into a Mimic and I began the fight. We got it down to 7% and died. Here are some of the problems that we had I am telling them in hopes that someone that tries this will be better prepared.

1) Make sure, and I mean make sure you have all tools for Jubaku, Kurayami and Hojo. These will save your life.
2) It doesnt not have to be all lvl 50 gear but you are going to want some type of accuracy gear that is level 50 or less because i had my full 75 gear on with sushi and I couldnt hit it to save my life.
3) Make sure the RDM hastes the NIN.
4) Make sure the RDM keeps stoneskin up at all times and has Signet so that he or she can rest because they will be poisoned almost the whole time.
5) Rdm/whm is ok but I suggest Rdm/blm to make sure debuffs land.
6) Expect the fight to be long, get ready to be on top of your game when it comes to shadow tanking.
7) This may have just been bad luck for us, but when we got the box to under 10% he started to spam his stun move. I may be something that comes along with his Draw-In when the RDM has pulled hate I am not quite sure.
8) The aoe stun will not take shadows or do damage but it can be devastating as it is a wee bit longer than your average stun.
9) If possible load up on evasion, giving that you bring the Kurayami tools, with evasion gear he will have a very hard time hitting you.

Side note: If you try this with better gear than I did and still find that you cannot hit the Mimic, I suggest bringing the tools for the Elemental Ni spells. You may be able to spam them like on the Under Observation BCNM in order to do better damage (I haven't tried it yet so don't hold it against me if it doesnt work well, all i know is that if you have done UO you know that those spells will do some damage)

1/1 sorc ring today on the large box!!

ive tried everyway possible to solo the mimic,not a chance at winning with that draw in move but im 4/12 on it,seems only time i get a chest with items if i pick the small chest,all my loses have been on the big chest,everyonce in awhile i pick the middle chect and got items once from it,basicly its all luck really but try the small chest,i honestly think you're chances are better but like i said its all luck,never hurts to give it a try,i go now thf,nin,if i pop a mimic i just pop my 2 hour with ichi up and use a warp scroll or cudgel and im out only 50 seals and not one exp point

ever since I accumulated 50 seals in my ubern00b days, I've been attracted to the quick payoff potential of this BCNM. After 6 runs, I've compiled the following list...

Attempt 1 (disregarded moonphase) small box: Mimic
Attempt 2 (disregarded moonphase) med. box: ~1000 gil, Shinobi Ring, Wyvern Scales
Attempt 3 (disregarded moonphase) large box: Mimic
Attempt 4 (disregarded moonphase) small box: ~1000 gil, Ronin Ring, Platinum Ore
Attempt 5 (disregarded moonphase) small box: Mimic
Attempt 6 (disregarded moonphase) large box: ~1000 gil, Mythril Ingot, Sorcerer's Ring (!!!)

After the obligatory "z0mg! gilz!" reaction on my 6th run, I checked the day/moonphase and saw it was a 95% full moon on Firesday. Make of this information and the combined payoff of 1,818,000 gil for 300 seals what you will.

Additionally, as a capitulation to lady luck, thanks to Kayna for suggest (blindly) #3 when I couldn't decide which box to pick ^^

Since I restarted FFXI this past March, I have been doing this BCNM and only this to make gil as luck has been on my side more times than not. Good game of Russian Roulette, let me tell ya..

I did two runs today just on my ninja (35). The first one, chose the Large Box and got owned, had to Mijin Gakure. Second run, chose the Medium Box and won.

The win was on a Windsday - Waxing Gibbous (83%) and the items that dropped were: Astral Ring, Gold Ignot, Quake scroll and a Demon Horn. Pretty decent pickup for 45 seconds of "work" :)

I'm 1/3 now and i want to keep trying but i only have 13 Beastmen seals left. I tried twice with my main char and went 0/2. Went with my backup char and went 1/1. Got a Conjurer's Ring and an Astral Ring. I'm still trying to figure out why astrals costs so much still on Cait Sith.

I don't know if this is just the one thing in the game I get lucky with, but I've done this bcnm 8 times and never lost. I do two runs every time I get a stack of seals.

I go in as brd/blm (for a free warp home) and Horde Lullaby the crates. First time I go in I always target the middle crate with the spell. This gives me the win, but the treasure doesn't spawn in the middle crate. It spawns from the small (Left) crate for some reason I do not know. Second time I go in I target the large (Right) crate, and the treasure spawns from the middle crate.

I've never waited and saved enough seals to do 3 runs. I always complete both runs on the same in-game day. And the moon is always @less then 10%. Astral rings have dropped 6/8 times, but I haven't gotten lucky enough to get the Sorcerer's Ring I need for my blm yet. I probably should spend the money from the astrals on it but I'm stubborn.

P.S. - Don't do BCNMs on random moon phases. If you want the good stuff, go on a new moon. It helps. I promise.

Well, Ive been saving up seals for about 6 months now and have about 10 stacks sitting in my storage so I decided to solo these and hope for the best with my nin 2 hour. Well, i guessed wrong and waited 2 hours. did it again, but in that two hours I decided to be smart and sub blm. I ended up being 37 NIN/18 BLM. All I do now is buff up shadows and if i guess wrong warp back to whitegate. So easy, except the ratio is horrible. I dont think there are two right chests because now im 3/8 with one astral and other stuff. Its an easy way to do it if you get bored so I hope this helps. Think I did about 4-5 runs in less than an hour. Too bad it costs 50 seals and the percentage of guessing right is horrible.

Did it solo cuz I was bored a few days ago, was unlucky enough to get mimic instead of straight treasure 0/1

Ok if you have 50 seals laying around and haven't done this before I'd say give it a shot.

I stumbled upon this BCNM looking for ones I could solo with my newly lvld smn, at first I doubted it but I said what the hell I'm bored and I need money. Grab the orb, choco/walk to the BCNM and crossed my fingers!

Get in, Blink myself with Garuda and take carby out. Had finger ready on warp scroll macro, ran to small chest and checked it... others disappeared! I opened it and two drops:

Sorceror's Ring
Petrified Log

I danced till morning! Sells for 800k on Garuda atm.

Where is a good spot to farm seals for this my main is 56 sam. Anyway tried this twice today picked medium both times, failure. First time I got stuck in change taget because I thought it was a open thing instead of attack. Then I paniced before I could us nin 2hr. 2nd time I Ichied then picked and had plenty of time to 2hr.

Did this 6 times with on a full moon. Just 4 of us went, 2 people with Orbs and 2 people (including myself) with nothing better to do than watch them die at the incorrect chest. Anyways, pty was myself, NIN/RDM (Irocky), PLD/WAR (Liliith), SMN/WHM (Shorttater), SMN/WHM (Killerofall).

decided to let the PLD open the box, and we picked Medium Box, and got it correct 4 times with no fight at all. got 3 Astrals, Drake Ring, Medicine Ring, and Darksteel Ore. Then we got more orbs and came back. Picked Medium box again (why not?) and had to fight the Mimic, got it down to 75% before PLD wiped. 1 of the SMN sicked carby on it while the other cured himself and the other SMN from the AoE/Poison. Me as NIN/RDM tanked fine with Elemental Ni spells hitting for 80 dmg each, and a Yag drink to keep mp up as I self cured. Won the fight with the only one left alive being the NIN and ~100hp left before falling dead from poison lol.

Last run we did we got picked Large Box, and agian, Mimic. Same scenario, PLD died @75% both SMNs ran outta MP and died from poison while I solo'd, popping poison pots, and MP drinks while i spammed Elemental Ni's. Killed it with ~20 mins left on the clock.

6 runs, gave us 2 fights, and 4 astral rings on Full Moon with 2 SMN, 1 PLD, and 1 NIN. We eached walked away with an astral ring and I got to brag how I killed the T&T Mimic solo :P

Im fairly sure the Mimics can be defeated alone with a NIN/RDM with Jack-o-Lantern (food), INT and EVA gear, all there spells + tools, HP/MP drinks, and either poison pots or antidotes. I also have max EVA merits tho :X

did this a few times and heres what happened

1st time won astral ring and tammers ring
2nd time won astral ring and fencers ring
3rd time lost
4th time won minstrels ring and ram horn
5th time lost

picked middle chest each time
made about 1.6 million ^^

Ya the guy below this post is, and this is a big IS!!, trying to spread false info. But not to fear I can and will spread the correct info for you.....because I wasted just as many seals on this as the person below says he has. >.>

Now he might be correct as to the day effecting the boxes that are mimics, but that only pertains to the first box of the day.

What I have experienced in this BCNM is this:

Whatever box is first non-mimic box will not be the next non-mimic box. Tested on several different occasions, and many, many deaths and successes. This has been tested with me and a friend going one after the other several times, and me by myself more times then I can count(which eventually lead to me hating the BCNM altogether).

Example: He would enter the BC, and choose the small box, I would then enter and choose the medium box, both with back-to-back successes. We did this 2 times in a row with good results, he got an Astral ring and then the Sorcerers Ring out of the 2 seperate drops from his successes. I got the Drake Ring and Soldiers Ring out of my 2 >.>(worth less then the Ore I got <.<). It's funny to note that these rings are worth only 1 gil when you try and sell them to a NPC, LMAO.

Example #2: After several successes, we decided to change it up. We went in after another person was doing the same BCNM, and we waited to see what that person chose, and she was kind enough to tell us, she chose the small box. He went in and chose the middle box, I then went in and chose the same. He got a drop, and I got smoked. We then tried it again directly after my failure, but due to my switching boxes on my attempt, the boxes switched the non-mimic spot and lead to both of us getting smoked on our next attempts.

Example #3 After many many hours of farming Beastman Seals, and me getting tired of waiting for my friend to due the same, I decided to go at it myself. Here's my miserable failures: I went in and started off choosing the small box(since this was how we started our attempts), result? failure. Came back, all the while doing searches on the area to see if anyone entered it or not while I was away, attempted to choose the box next size up, result? failure. >.> Had barely enough to do another, and did so. Came back and chose the small box again, result? another f***in failure(lemme tell you just how pissed I was after 3 failures in a row...I was 2 inches away from accidentally breaking my TV with my controller<good thing I can't aim that well when I'm mad>). I haven't done this BCNM in the past 3 months and have been tossing every single Beastman Seal I get, I have been that pissed off about it. >.>

So you can see a pattern to how the Mimics rotate when ppl enter after each other. They do rotate, and they don't stay the same throughout the day, regardless of what the poster below has stated. Now, they might reset after each game day, but the mimics do and will rotate, regardless of what box is chosen(weither a success or a failure).

Now, the day of the week (IG), might have an effect as to what box is the first non-mimic of the day. But the next non-mimic box (and so on), is determined by what is chosen by each player that enters the BCNM, and will never remain the same. But then again maybe when me and my friend wasted 400 BS' in between the 2 of us, and got lucky?!. But you can't deny the coincidences(if so), when we attempted this BCNM together. And maybe it is random, as to which box is the next non-mimic box, idk. But I prefer to see it as fact.

The poster below didn't just get lucky, he most likely was entering after another player that was doing the same thing he was. And he was reaping the benefits(if he was successful), each and every time.

Also it should be noted that my friend chatted with the player that entered the BCNM before we started having failures, and she told him that she always chose the small box, and got the non-mimic box 9/10 times she did it. So, go figure on that, it might start off as the small box, every game week, idk.

I think that if these boxes do depend on the day, it might be possible to see what they are weak against to figure that out(if they are weak to any type of magic that is). Just have 3 Black Mages go in (one after the other)and 2 hour each version(small, medium, large) of the mimics to see what they are weak to, this might give an indication to what day they will start off in the non-mimic slot. But then again it might just prove fruitless, to try such an endevear.

But if anyone(besides the fruitcake below) has anything to add to this, go right ahead. These have been my experiences, and I'm about ready to try this BCNM again, as I really need gil badly and the Astral Ring and the Sorcerers Ring would be dream drops for me to get, since my friend got 1.2 mil gil out of those 2 drops, I have my fingers crossed.^^

Did this 3 times last night.

Picked middle box all three times. 1/3 and ended up with a shinobi ring & mythril.

If you have a pet job have it attack the chest you want. If it is the right one go open it. If not let your pet keep fighting and use some form of warp. If you try to run it will draw you in so just stand still and hit warp.

Takes about 20 minutes a run solo.

This is a little late but I'll still share it. So one day I was doing the usual manaburn on the puddings in Mount Zhayolm and on of the tarutaru was doing the 75% armor-HP convert and i relized he was doing it for the Sorcerer's Ring. SO that sparked my intrest so I went to the AH and found it. Next was I /shocked at the cost of this thing. So I'm sure you guessed where I went next. To the internet and look up the info on this thing and found out it was soloable in a way. So with the 200+ seals I figure wth its worth a shot. Then off to jueno and as alway at the time I was gonna do the the warp tarutaru in Al Zahbi he would be no where to be seen. hehe To shorten it up I get my orb and show up at the BC. I am a Med Elvaan and went as a BLM/RDM. I blink/SS up and run over to the chests. My first though was go small and walk away with something as I stand over it I second guess myself and walk over to the big and was thinking spend big win big so as I stand over the big chest I target it and I open up my spell list and ensure that I'm on warp hehe. Then I click the chest and /joy the Sorcerer's Ring and a Gold Ore drops. ^^

Just a little exp. with the ring it is nice but I dont think I would ever spend my hard earned gil on this the damage is only like 20-30 over my Snow ring. Although I'm not gonna sell it. But I'm sure when i can stack on a little more magic atk bouns it will proly make more diff.

Just did this today after my friend got lucky and got Astral and Sorcerers ring being 1/2. So i set aside 100seals and headed out there. I decided to go with the middle since most of the post ive read here were drops from middle. First pop, Mimic, second pop, Astral and Mistrals! Not as good as my friends but Im happy with it. Him and me both got our drops off our second pick. choose a box, if it doesn't drop, stick with it ^^

Ive had a idea i wanted to try for this BCNM, but i sadly lack the taru power to do it And it involves taking the mimics on, So i thought i will post it here and see if anyone else comes up trumps with it ^^

Party Setup: BLM X5, PLD

BLM all must be level 50, and have Freeze, Set all your macros. Choose the box before hand that your going to take baring in mind, the small one high evasion ... so go for medium one/ Large your choice.

3 Mages stand on the Black line as you enter and 2 Behind The Chests, At the far back Make sure your in range though to cast freeze.

All set your macros WITH Same timings: Id think this would be more useful in this setup

/p casting freeze on <size> chest <your name> 19 secs..
/wait 9
/p Paladin hit the chest

Pop your 2 hr before hand so Black magic is Not~! Interrupted (Gotta love blm 2hr) because he likes to suck people in that are far away. Wack ur macro all at same time, PLD should see call and if it is a Mimic then your all about 2/3 off the way through freeze, once you have casted it spam a Fire2, Since you have used ya 2hr your have Mp ^^ fire 2 because freeze makes its a little weaker to fire.

Hopefully PLD will have voke ready if you all time at same time and Hi pots and a drink for magic.

Dont forget to take food aswell.

I Hope that works for you ^^ at least your 33% chance off winning goes up ALOT more! and your 50 seals wont be so much at risk. Luck is only a coincidence, And i dont believe in coincidences.

- astral ring
- minstrels ring

picked the medium one! I went in as nin/war lvl 10 lol i would mijin gakure, well if mimic hit me for more i wouldnt care to lose exp either...

i tried this with 75rdm/37blm decided on one atttempt to use areoga i hit the medium larg and small in that order and the small one attacked me. So needless to say u need to physically attack it.

got drunk, did this bcnm, got sorc ring

1/2 on this BCNM..
I'm very pleased with the result though..
I went the 1st try as thf47/blm20 for perfect dodge and warp, tryed the small chest, popped a mimic.It hit me once for 153, and then my PD went up, and i warped out.

Second try, thf47/nin23, with a warp scroll. go in, and try the medium chest.
Holy crap OMG Sorcerer's Ring!! and some log... I'm a small mithra..fyi,and didnt have any "luck" items..the ring sells for around 1.2 mil on Shiva server.
