Any level 41+ Monks do this? I wonder what would happen if you Chi Blasted the Treasure Chest.
For those of you that don't know Chi Blast CAN NOT miss, and CAN NOT be resisted. It can't do 0 damage. Considering a level 41 Monk could take on Kirin if s/he really wanted to.

Battle NotesTo begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Balga's Dais zone located in the Giddeus dungeon. Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield. Upon entering the battlefield, you will find three treasure chests (Large Box, Medium Box, and Small Box) in the center of the room. When one chest is opened, the other two will disappear.
StrategiesThe most common strategy in doing this BCNM is to utilize the roulette method, which is basically just to choose one chest and hope that luck is on your side, since popping the right chest will result in an instant win. If a mimic is spawned, the player will either try escaping using a Warp Cudgel, a Scroll: Instant Warp, or the Warp I spell, or, if using the method of going in on a level one job, just dying. However, it is possible to beat the BCNM with a small group via killing the mimic spawned if the "lucky" chest isn't opened. However, this often requires planning and preparation ahead of time to win, as the group must go in with every intention of defeating a mimic should they fail to open the "lucky" chest. Red Mage and Ninja method A simple, straightforward method, though easily the longest one used, the Ninja will fight the mimic while the Red Mage cures and buffs the Ninja, while helping to enfeeble the mimic. The mimic's Death Trap ability as well as its Draw-in effect will often result in the Red Mage being hit a few times, so it is advised to keep Stoneskin, Blink, and Phalanx up as much as possible to survive. Black Mage method This method basically culminates a full contingent of Black Mages casting the Freeze Ancient Magic on the mimic soon after it spawns. If u go with widescan will it show up as treasure box and mimics or Small box medium box large box or will nothin show up at all
Have you ever seen a chest/coffer/mimic on widescan? If you try to scan in here you will discover there is no map, and you will be located at (?-?) along with any party members. I took a friend to this that was deleting character and was hoping to try and fight the mimic if it popped. It did, I died (capped 50Whm/25blm), he died (30ish monk) mimic damage from both of us was about two slivers of health. He repeated and got a ring with like a 50k value on fenrir. I went on this bcnm solo the first time and picked the right chest the first time. I got a pld ring (worth 2k on fenrir) and an ore worth 3k. I would have rather done a bcnm 30 and a 20 with the 50 seals. Also not sure if there is 2 chests or 2 mimics since there is no way to truely find out, but I wont be wasting more seals on this venture.

Ok i just have one question, do u need thf tools to pick the locks or just hit attack on a chest?
This BCNM is good if you (for some reason) lvled a mule but don't want to lvl him up anymore.

i really wanna know if an AoE attack would activate the treasure chest or just anger both mimics, i want a surefire way of getting the chest :P
ok ****** if there was a Surefire why of finding the chest this would be Instant Cash, everyone would do it, and eventually the items that drop will become worth less and less til no one would pay more then 10k for these items.

So if all you need are the seals, couldn't you simply use SAM and charge up TP repeatedly and then do an AOE and hit all chests at once...that would easily enough hit the item chest as well the mimic chests.
ok i did this about 2 months ago and today again (was bored).Both times i went in as BLM/WHM 30 for Warp if i make it right ^^.1st time i picked the small chest and got a Fencer's ring(50k) and a ram horn(2k).Today i went in and picked the large chest, bingo, got scroll of quake(350k^^) and a fighter's ring (1k -.-)
And yes, THEY ALL LOOK SAME, you cant know if its a mimic

if I opened a wrong box.... and a mimic did appear... can I still open the other boxes with the one with treasures or the other ones will disappear...?
A friend of mine and I performed this 5 times tonight... I went in as a PLD/BLM and she as a SMN/BLM.. the idea was simple since neither of us could get LSmates to get involved...Warp out if the mimic spawned.
She casted a summon and had it assault the chosen chest..If it turned to a mimic we warped out and tried again... Here was our results:
1st time: Large Chest: Astral Ring, Soldier's Ring
2nd time: Medium chest: Mimic
3rd time: Large Chest: Soldier's Ring, Astral Ring
4th time: Medium Chest:Gold Ore, Kamph Ring
5th Time: Medium Chest: Mimic

Can you solo this as SMN/BLM? If you send an Avatar in to attack box and get a mimic will it live long enough for you to warp out? Been meaning to try this on a low lvl job, but if the SMN/BLM thing would work I would rather try it that way.

Do you think a couple of Freezes would take care of the monster? Or are they magic resistant? Just a thought. About 5k damage from 6 Freeze spells might be an idea.

Been trying to camp this on the Lakshmi AH for weeks now, and I always seem to miss it.
So, if anyone in Lakshmi feels like getting rid of one of these, /tell Zvornik, I'll buy it for the normal AH price of 80k.

I did this last night and got a Conjurer's Ring (15k) and an Astral Ring (850K). I also got 2236 gil. I picked the middle box. Almost 1 Mil gil in 30 seconds.

Hmmm do you think it is possible for a ranger or beast to go into this Bcnm and use widescan to see mimics on it? would that work? i heard it does, but i don't know.... could somebody help me on this opinion please :) thank you.
If i remember correctly, there is NO MAP. If it was that easy, everyone would do this and the stuff wouldn't be worth anything. I tried it ( as a Lvl 3 Rng ), a while ago when I first heard about it, and you can't do anything. It just says no map. So I don't know where you heard it works, but it does not. Whoever told you that probably was just assuming it does.
OK I admit it, I ignored the warnings... I thought "Hey, a 1 in 3 chance isn't too bad."
So I had about 120 BS's collecting dust in my MH for awhile, I take 50 grab the orb and head to the Burning circle, I walk up confidently to the chests wondering which one to choose... in the end I tried going by the old saying "Good things come in small pacakges"... if you consider Death good, then that's exactly what I got >.<
But surprisingly that wasn't enough to deter me. I still had some free time and and extra 70 seals, so I give it another shot. As I walked towards the chests I decided on a different tactic, hold down the tab key and select roulette style. When I let go of the key it landed on the middle chest and.... SUCCESS!!! I awaited eagerly for my reward to appear on screen and when it finally appeared my hard earned seals had netted me a...... shinobi ring and a chunk of gold ore...... OMFGWTF?! 100 seals down the drain and I got a 28k profit, not to mention 1 death. ARGH!!!
-PS The gold ore wasn't listed as a reward on Alla, so I submitted it which it looks like it's been updated so at least a little good came of this.

I proved that looking into the chests will not help you determine wheter it's a mimic or a chest. First, all 3 are mimic models. I proved this by replacing the mimic models with a NPC hoping that this would have revealed the chest and the mimics. All 3 were the NPC when I showed up. Next I decided maybe I would try the looking inside trick, I first throughly examined the mimic type chest in model viewer and it was vastly diffrent than chests when you see through the skin on the outer layer. So I replaced my moogle with a mimic chest and when I did this it looked exactly the same as a regular chest. So moral of the story is, it's pure luck as to what chest will give you goods and what will give you death. Any stories that say otherwise are coincidental occurances. Although that trick MAY have worked a while ago and they updated it to prevent any tricks to cracking the system.

I heard all of the good stories about people walking in picking a box, and getting loads of good equipment!! ^^
So, I go get my orb, get to Balgas Dais! Then buff up with stoneskin phalanx blink refresh aquaveil - take a long look at all the boxes, and there is honestly NOTHING to point out a difference!
I ended up just going with the middle chest - >< - a mimic!! I hit my warp macro - bang - hit for 12 points and the spell is stopped (Keep in mind this is through blink/stoneskin/phalanx, and I am using aquaveil and most of my kit stops casting from being interrupted!)
I recast - boom!! Hit for 230!!!
twice more like this, and I'm lying face down in the dirt without being able to cast!!!
I delevel, as I had only just reached 51 ; ;
Moral of the story - dont waste your seals on a 1 in 3 chance! ><
...50 down the pan for nothing more than a loss of xp!! ; ;

Looked around for 2 minutes, could not see any extra colours in any of the boxes (PS2), so went desperate and picked my buddy small box, after a long pause, Astral Ring and a Medicine Ring. =) I was so happy. That's 1 down and one to go.
Quick tip for Whm's! Stoneskin and Blink up at the beginning, and if you run into trouble have a Warp macro! I'm 1/1 so I haven't had to resort to this, saves the money for prisms and oils for a low level job. =) Good luck all!

One question....
Can you enter this BCNM as a very low level job?
My main is 50+, but I have beastmens seals on my mules, which I would like to use, and obviously I have only used them to test out certain jobs, before levelling on my main.
Highest job = 11 (...after all they are MULES!! =P)
But after collecting quite a few from wild rabbits and the like in Ronfaure, I might as well use them instead of putting them to waste?! ^^
This seems like the perfect BCNM to use it on - I aint wasting time levelling my mules - just one shot - 1 in 3 chance of coming away a winner! ;)

Nope. I lvl my mules occasionally for crystals, and to kill time. This is what i do with their seals ^^ They are all lvl 30 or weaker. Only requirement is to have the seals

i have a friend that found a way to cheat doing this. i really can't tell you how he did it because i've been having problems but somehow changed the monsters .dat file on PC to a different color so when he goes in on his end the mimics show up as, lets say purple, and real chest is normal. he is 10/10 on this and soloed it every time.
A friend of mine tried this last night. He swapped 2 of the three mimic dat files (1 with a chocobo file and the other with carbuncle). He stated that when he entered he got all carbuncles and not 1 chest or chocobo image.
If your fried is saying that it's working for him...i'd like to know what files he's swapping just by swapping the mimic dat file doesn't appear to be enough...if it works at all.
