Could anyone tell me if this set up is good enough to win: pld/war(taru btw), bst/whm, bst/whm, blm/whm, rdm/blm, drg/thf. Our skillchain would be penta thrust- red lotus blade= wind for MB.
please write back =) thanx

Let me start off by saying what I have already said. The 2 bsts will make this so much easier as long as they play it smart and keep hate off themselves. These things have the very worst defense so a DRG would be great. I have never done it with a BLM so I don't know how that would go but you know BLMs are usually great. As for your def, a PLD and RDM huh? These things hit hard and fast. The PLD will not be able to get off many spells at all. So he wont beable to hold hate well with the drg hitting for 130+ a hit and the blm doing his thing. The RDM will have to full time heal and probably use convert. That's my 2 cents. Good luck

I did this fight again with a NIN, 2 BSTS, DRK, DRG/RDM(me), and WHM. We won 6 times out of 6 tries. We set the record. We stomped these carrot eating overgrown sheep. The WHM didn't even use drinks except for like 2 of the fights. We went in, used Protectra, WHM used Reraise, poison potions to stay awake, and food. You should all go look and target them before you all rush in. Keep your distance at this point. I used Chiefkabobs. I hit for 150 a hit, rarely missed, and my penta did 900 dmg once(it varies). Saved Super Jump for when I used penta. I shouldn't have subbed rdm since my wyvern was always asleep and could't heal. Our DRK used stun whenever the NINs shadows went down and it rarly scratched him. The BSTS can solo these things for just about forever, although they will need your help in killing it. After this I quit the game because I am as much a master as bring lvl 56 would permit me to be. And the game sucks since SE just adds more sh*t all the time.

Edit: The NIN and one BST got items that sold for like 5 mil. I got 1.5 mil total. Everyone else got like 300K. This is on Remora. So, mostly crap drops.

Edit: RDM sub for DRG came in handy since I could cast blink on myself 2 or 3 times a fight and cure people to wake them up.

I did this fight 5 times and won once! Our win time was like 15 min and you have 30 min to do this, take your time. We had many problems. Our party set up was a pld, whm, drg, drk, bst, and smn. We used poison potions to stay awake since the sheep cast sleep. The first time we all had stone skin, which absorbs poison! So we all got slept, and died one at a time. We stopped doing that, but then the smn had problems keeping hate on carby and kiting. I recommend 2 bsts to kite, since our bst never had any trouble. My penta did 800 damage to one of these! That grabbed me enough hate to die very quickly. Then the whm died from getting hate from curing me. Then we all died! Next time I will sub rdm for healing breath and less offense. You have lots of time. Lastly get a NIN tank. These sheep hit hard but have weak defense. A nin could easily tank one, maybe two for a while. Good luck ^^

Review: BSTs can kite these sheep with a crab easily for a looong time. NINs can tank these as long as they can keep hate(keep them hasted). DO NOT RUSH. DD take your time and dont get hate. It will end the fight quickly not in your favor

Our static party did this BCNM like a year ago... we're planning to try again.

I think our setup was like this, using the typical RDM gravity Kite method:

PLD/WAR(me), RNG/NIN, THF/NIN, RDM/BLM, RDM/BLM, WHM/RDM.

Here's the bit of info I don't see up there. As a tank, this fight is HELL. Every normal attack these guys do is a heavy knockback. There is absolutely no time to get a cure in on yourself because most of the time you are either being hit, or in the midst of a knockback animation, so your spells are always interrupted. Even Flash is usually interrupted unless you get the timing just right. So basically all you can do is Provoke and use Defender+Sentinel and otherwise stand there and get the crap beat out of you.

We have a debate up over whether NIN would be able to tank this. Will the knockback effect still occur even through Utsu? If not than NIN would be a much better tank than PLD for this fight. If knockback still happens then NIN would not work AT ALL as a tank, because you would never ever be able to recast your shadows.

It went ok though. I think we won 4/6 of them. We got the belt our Hume BRD (playing WHM here) needed and a few other misc. items. Unfortunately they were only worth a few 100k back then. Pretty excited about doing this again now that the stones are worth several million apiece.

I don't know about other servers, but on Asura (pretty crazy inflation here) this BCNM can drop an average of 3mil+ If you get the Steppe Belt, *boom* 6mil on AH as of 2-7-06. Ironically I could afford to BUY most of what I want from this BCNM if I got that drop alone.

Anyway... just FYI. Ya know, for what its worth.

Yeah, ouch...

Tried this BCNM three times, party was RDM/BLM, RDM/BLM, WHM/BLM, PLD/WAR, MNK/WAR, and BLM/WHM.

First time, gravity wouldn't stick for the RDM's, they got wiped and we were all soon to follow.

Second time, same thing except we all got raised within the BCNM and received another beating as soon as we engaged.

Third time was the charm, but took us 29 minutes, 11 seconds. WHM had to raise everyone after party wiped shortly after killing middle sheep. What had happened was the sheep that we were bringing up next to be killed somehow didn't follow the RDM and instead went after the other >< After everyone was raised and weakness gone, MNK 2HR'd the next sheep and died when it had a sliver of health left. I managed to get a Thunder II off on it to kill it, then we all ran down to take the sheep off of the first RDM while the other raised the MNK again. I 2HR'd the sheep, Freeze was resisted, Aeroga II, Thunder II, Aeroga II, and the bastard still had 1/3 HP lol. Took hate (big surprise lol), died, deleveled, and MNK's weakness finally wore while the last sheep was chasing the RDM's and WHM's down since the PLD got whacked during all of this. One RDM died, MNK chased the sheep down, but was too late, as our remaining RDM and our WHM just used the most powerful spells in their arsenal to finish it off. MNK hauled ass back up the hill to the entire party saying "GO GO GO!" to open the chest, Forest Stone, Rogue's Ring, Gold Ingot, and Mythril Ingot.

A few pointers on this...

I am a BLM, and I can honestly say I am not the greatest choice for DD on this, due to having to have a poison potion on to resist sleep but still needing to rest MP. Sure, I did some damned good damage, but just ran out of juice lol. Secondly, it is VERY important you have the RDM's run in with the PLD and get the other two sheep out of there so the DD's can get to work on the main sheep.

Another thing... Good luck getting a spell off if you are the PLD or RDM's with a sheep that gravity has worn on :P They eat through buffs and interrupt casting, so RDM's just have to be extremely lucky with Gravity sticking. This BCNM is very tough with this particular setup, and I would almost suggest (even for fear of getting rated down) that a different kiter be chosen. There's just not enough room to maneuver, and the sheep spam sheep charge and lamb chop, so there's a knockback effect too :P Might even need a THF/NIN, perhaps Icarus Wing and Shadowstitch the little buggers. Not exactly suggesting this, just tossing an idea out.

Drops were good at least lol... Oh, and we set the record on Asura. I'm glad the recommended strategy has worked for other people, but it sure didn't work that great for us. Good luck if you try this ^^

I've heard that some bst parties have had success with bcnm40 - Steamed Sprouts, so has anyone tried this bcnm with a bst party?

I have been thinking it over and I think it could be done with -

bst, bst, smn, pld, whm, rdm

My idea is to have the two bsts each go in and charm one of the sheep, then have those two sheep attack the third one. The smn could use carby (w/carby gloves) to also attack the third or kite if needed. The rdm could refresh and kite any sheep that lost it's charm, and the pld could come in and emergency tank where needed. Also the bsts could use jug pets where needed as well. Poison potions would probably still be necessary of course, but I think it could work if all the necessary precautions were taken.

Please reply to this post if anyone has any thoughts on this idea, or if anyone has tried anything similiar and what the results were.

I did this bcnm three times.
3 wins about 2.5million in drops.

Here are my observations...

The party:
SAM/WAR
PLD/WAR
WHM/SMN
RDM/BLM
RDM/BLM
RNG/NIN

We have been friends for a long time and knew how to work with eachother.

Decent gear for level 50.

Basic food, poison potions, etc.

The enemy:

Three sheep... they're pretty normal... except...

They rarely use anything but the sheep move called "Sheep charge"(or was it lamb chop? i dunno)... which had medium damage and a small knockback... about 100-150 to a 50 PLD.

They will use AoE sleep which is why poison potions are very important.

They're probably equal to a T sheep... really taken down without too much trouble.

The battle plan:

The main job of the redmages is to keep the other sheep busy while the other four people kill them... heres how it goes:

Go to the edge of the ring after having all buffs cast.

one RDM picks the right or left and the other RDM picks the opposite side.

The tank picks the Middle always.

Start off by having tank run in there and voke the middle, then each rdm casts gravity on the appropriate sheep IMMEDIATLY.

after the sheep are gravitized, the rdms should now run down the slope and almost out of sight for the sheep... where you can just target it.

once you reach the bottom, just run around the sheep and continue doing this.

make sure to have stoneskin and blink up at all times.

Once gravity wears, you should be far away and see him moving fast, just recast it.

In the event that you get put to sleep, cancel stoneskin immediatly.(Poison pot will wake you up.)

The first sheep should be dead in 3-4 minutes.

Once he is dead, take the sheep off of the rdm closest to you and begin with that one.

Now the second rdm has two choices, help the other rdm(still kiting the sheep) or heal the party, debuff, refresh, etc...

well, it's very situational.

Take a look at their health, mp, and the health and status of the other RDM. Use your own judgment to keep everyone alive.

After the second sheep is dead, you are going to be low on MP and just convert and take over for the whm... and it's pretty hard to lose at this point.

Wrap up:

1. party had 2 RDMs. very important.

2. use poison potions to counter sleep.

3. 2HR on your first orb just so you get the hang of it.

4. fights should take 9-10 minutes.

5. STAY OUT OF RANGE OF SLEEP.

Good luck

If they were saying that drg is useful it will probably be for penta thrust maybe. Not sure cause i havent done it yet.

DRG/Mage comes good when we get our AF helm at 60. The wyvern will cure ppl at 50% health than, rather than ppl at 1/3 health.
That's not at all to say drg/mage is bad pre 60. but im guessing if drg was recommended it would be for penta which we get at 49. Plz drgs out there have and acc+ gear you can afford for this though

3/4 with this setup
We lost on last one because we got really cocky as a Banish 2 would of finished the mob.

NIN/WAR
RNG/NIN
SAM/WAR
WHM/BLM
RDM/NIN
RDM/BLM

Did the strategy of the 2nd poster and it went relatively smoothly.

Keys to Victory:
Poison Potion
Proper Kiting
Keep the Ninja Hasted at all times (These things have incredible accuracy as they never missed me once)

We set the new record on Valefor with 8 minutes and 50 seconds.

Biggest prizes were the Ocean Stone (1.5mil) and the Forest Stone (1.2mil)

We also did one with a SMN/WHM kiter instead of a RDM/BLM. Worked very well too.

Thanks to Obakeken, Kutetsu, Madmartigan, Overdose, Zeo and Chodo on Valefor. GJ!

ok to be honest BCNM 50 Hostile Herbivores is easier then you think. Infact I have taken the time to devise the perfect way to win, with just about any type of melees.

ok for starters you do follow the basic plan of having two rdms gravity two sheeps and run up and down hill while the rest of you fight the other sheep. but as we all know something usually goes wrong with that plan and party ends up dead.

so heres what you do. set your party up like this pld/war or nin/war , whm/blm, 2 melee DD's i ve won it with just about any melee DD there is but rangers and dragoons do really well, and 2 rdm/blm.

OK you start battle by buffing up with whm and rdms castin all defensive spells they got, BLINK and Stoneskin are essential and should be worn at all times. Whm casts reraise as well as his buffs.
now rdms cast gravity and run down hill , tank vokes middle sheep. And everyone puts on poison. AT this point its vital the only normal atks are used on sheep untill the other two sheep clear the way. NO cure no nothin just normal atks otherwise the other two sheep will lose hate on rdm and atk party. Not good. So only normal atks. the tank should draw the fight to the outter edge of the circle. Once the other two sheep clear DD's begin to unload on sheep.

MEANWHILE... the two rdms are going down the hill, they should run to the bottom quickly. at the bottom of the hill the rdm's should wait on opposite sides of the pathway so there sheep will split up and it will be easy for each rdm to know what sheep is his. Mixing up sheep results in death. but by them standing apart they can easily tell which one is theres. Now with that in mind, once they see there sheep they should hit there elemental seal, and then cast bind. The sheep will get bound and then the rdm runs back up to the top. and waits for his sheep. then he hits gravity and runs back down. During each trip the rdm will recast stoneskin and blink even phalanx (if possible).

Now with melees doin ther job they should be able to take down the first sheep. Once that sheep is dead they send a call out to bring another sheep. your tank runs down and vokes a sheep and takes that sheep back to the edge of circle. then that rdm comes to help heal.

Now if all goes smooth you be able to repeat what you did against the first sheep and kill the second one, and then move on to the third.

But as we all know, things don't always go to plan, everyone dies, and you end up losing the orb battle.

Well with the whm wearing reraise, if the party dies, that doesn't mean the battle is over yet^^. Once you are dead the sheep will return to the burning circle. At that point the whm gets back up, runs over and raises a rdm, then that rdm runs over and raises the other rdm, who then raises a melee. Now keep in mind the rdm's must have some mp gear on to do this or they wont have enough mp, but most rdms got mp gear with em. But make sure your rdms are wearin it b4 the enter battle.

once everyone gets raised you heal and wait till sickness wears. the rdm refreshes the whm then the rdms use convert. the whm uses divine seal and couraga. to quickly heal party.

Then you buff up and at it again. Now at this point you don't have much time left so you must hurry and kill each sheep left. Usually there are two left. 1 rdm takes sheep down heal and uses his elemental seal and bind the other 5 of you fight sheep and kill it quickly. I recommend that the rdm nuke using there strongest spells. Once second sheep dies you get the 3rd and finish the battle, usually with about 5 min to spare.

Now keep in mind that the reraise whm trick only can work if 1st sheep dies, and provided that no one dies in burning circle. Which is why i said to fight on edge of circle. If anyone is about to die they can run outside circle and die. Obviously if you die don't HP. Oh btw if you die you only lose 500xp. Now death aint the plan but it's nice to have a plan incase it happens lol. But also keep in mind that if you are fighting the second sheep and 2 people have died or something really bad happens, it could be in your parties best interest to hurry up and die so that you can get up faster. If death is inevitable die quickly so you can get up sooner and finish fight. This thing is timed for 30 min.

I have done this plan many times. And it has worked all the time. the only time it doesnt work is if you dont kill first sheep. Anyway, I hope this strategy is helpfull for those who dont know about it and wanna win this bcnm. Good luck

*a couple notes,

1 Rdm/whm needs alot of Int+ gear to be able to stick their spells and has no Elemental seal (so not recomended)

2 Stoneskin absorbs Poison, so when i got slept with stoneskin on poison DID NOT wake me up !! (PT Death),

3 im wondering if BSt would be betr kiters than RDm, as they dont need to land spells and they wouldnt even get any hate (can anyone speak on this, like how many hits yur pet can take while kiteing?

Comment on #3. A bst kiter would probably work. It would be manditory that this is the next sheep to kill. Not sure how long a pet would hold out so the bst would have to use their mp wizely or they will be dead meat as well the rest of party.

I tried this with 2 RDM, 1 BLM, NIN, RNG, DRK. Went horribly. I knew nothing about this so the RNG clued me in and told me everything to do. I repeatedly asked "What if it resists Gravity?". He assured me that the sheep won't resist it and i'll do fine. Well, that wasn't good enough for me so I asked him "Well if it does, what should i do? Chainspell > Gravity until it lands?" His response: "Sure, but it'll land. Trust me". Well we entered and me and the RDM grabbed the 2 sheep with gravity and NIN voked it. Thinking i was safe to run around, i keep getting hit. Gravity definitely didn't land. Not to mention i'm a Taru RDM and subbed BLM with enfeebling capped. I also had Boiled Crab on, was taking about 130 DMG. (They tore through Blink and Stoneskin fast, not to mention i had Phalanx on) Well i chainspelled and casted and FINALLY! It landed. We were doing good, except for the fact I had about 1/2 HP and the other RDM 3/4 HP. We're running around, doing our job. So the other RDM's gravity is ready to recast so he does, it resists. That RDM get's beat to death, so then i get his sheep and go down fast. Next, the two sheep start killing the BLM. then they go after the tank, then DRK, then last... the RNG. Then i thought to myself... I thought this guy knew what he was talking about?

Well, there are many things i would've done different... Like sub NIN for utsusemi. Next, get a RDM to heal instead of BLM (Why he didn't choose RDM or WHM from the start is beyond me, wasn't available maybe?) for Convert and Refresh so he'll be good on HP til the other 2 RDMs get there. The RDM healer could also use Reraise scroll incase of death. Also, get rid of the DRK and get DRG for Super Jump and it's damage. Next, have both the Kiting RDM's sub NIN for Utsusemi. Also, have the NIN tank enter actually arena to voke the sheep before RDM enter so it's shadows can eat the hits until RDM's get gravity casted so that the RDM's shadows don't go away just yet. And i think that would work.

Too bad the pt that made me waste about 13k and EXP on this fight didn't want to try again and didn't invite me to do it the next time they did. Maybe I was too much of a newb XD ^^

I also have a question for everyone who's done this BCNM, is there anything better to do if Gravity is resisted besides Chainspell > Gravity? I tried Bind, but it was interrupted so i decided 2 hour was only option.

BTW, my Character's name is Jeckal on Quetzelcoatl. ATM 54RDM/27WHM or 27BLM.

Elemental Seal + Gravity... makes it stick longer and more accurate, Gravity is more of an INT boosted spell so anything that will boost ur int should help...

Did this two nights ago, party set up was Rdm/blm, rdm/whm, whm/blm, Drg/thf(me), Rng/nin, Pld/war. This fight is very easy and simple as long as you dont screw up and even if you do theres a back up plan.

-First when you get in, buff yourself, have the 2 rdm cast stoneskin, blink, and phalanx, and have them eat a jack-o-lantern the extra evasion helps....alot. After the whm buffs have them refresh the whm and pld along with themselves, head on up to the main arena have 1 rdm pull the left one with gravity, have 1 rdm pull the right one with gravity, have the pld provoke the first one. Lead them down the hill refresh, rebuff, recast gravity when the sheep get down there if ur using rdm/blm(good choice) use elemental seal and bind, keep the sheep there for a while, and watch them. Everyone else wacks away at the sheep while the whm stands in a safe distance incase he/she has to heal the rdms or the melee in an emergency. If the ranger is using a gun dont spam bullets on the sheep cause they will kill the rng quick. The dragoon is the ideal job along with monk for these BCNM since they deal very good damage to mobs who are flesh based(mostly animals like sheep, and crawlers). I was using mythril lance, brigandine, elvaan rse pants, winged boots, emp hairpin, and beetle earings+1 with sniper rings, The food I used was Squid sushi for more penta thrust hits to land, and I was thf sub for SA. Use normal attacks on the first sheep until the sheep uses berserk this is the time for the ranger to use Barrage with gun, followed by SA Penta thrust from the dragoon, then Super Jump and hate goes back to the paladin, My penta thrusts did 600-800 when the sheep used berserk and 480-600 when it was normal. the sheep are easy to defeat if you have the plan thought out and u stick to it, once the first sheep is down take the next sheep off the rdm who has the least MP. in our case the mithra had less than the hume so we took hers first. WHM should definately cast reraise at the start. If you all die, try to die outside of the main arena, and fight the first sheep at the edge of the arena not inside, if you die for some reason, ur whm can raise him or herself and bring u all back to life just in time. A mistake occured in one of ours where the pld voked one and I attacked the wrong one by accident. we died but the whm had reraise, raised us all and we finished it. Got 2 ocean stones out of 4 successes this is the flawless strategy to winning just make sure u have a drg rng and rdms who know what they are doing. You dont want a drg that doesnt use super jump at the right time or a rng who spams gunshots or arrows from a war bow.

Done tonight 6/6 with 4 stones (yeah!!!) and some other stuff thrown in for a total of about 3.6 mil for six runs.

RDM strategy with poison potions worked well. One rdm was /nin for utsusemi the other was a taru /blm as he would be holding the third sheep so he needed the most int for Gravity to hit everytime.

They attack fast so its tough for the pld to cure himself. However, in our setup the monk would ws 2/3rd the way through and get hate, the pld would then cure/flash/voke until hate regained. Then I (rng) would do ws at 1/2 health to get hate for a sec and pld would cure up and get it back before my shadows wore. After the sheep berserk my shots were doing over 200 damage each so at 1/4th life a barrage/sharpshot would finish him off. After the first sheep its now 5 on 1 and downhill from there.

Before taking the last sheep i would shadowbind to buy us about 40 more seconds to rest. But with yag drinks for the first sheep and a rdm to refresh after that, rest wasnt really an issue.

We had a couple of deaths (one of them me) because of a failure to reuse poison potions after they wore off. Other than that, pretty smooth. I shudder to think how easy this would be with a four smn two rdm combo.......

We had a bunch of crappy luck w/ this BCNM 50. The first time we did it we died.. chaos.. rdm were training in the arena and people caught aggro we all died. 2nd time more of hte same. 3rd time i recommend that they train downt he trail. It works but some how pld dies and we get screwed. Forth time we finally succeed! but time run out before we get treasure.. so pissed!! RDM has to leave. Get replacement rdm.. 5-6th time new rdm dies and we get shafted! You must be on point in the BCNM or else everyone get screwed. Many little mistakes cost us so just make sure you get a good party and they are clear on what happens.

Have never done this BCNM, but I'm hoping to start soon (LS member does it sometimes). I have a thought/idea on strategy, and a question. First off a simple question. Can the sheep be bound? Not to replace Gravity, but to supplement it when either it wears off early (ie. before recast timer is up), or if you just really need a few seconds to reapply some buffs without getting beaten silly.

Next I have an idea. It would seem to me that RDM/THF may actually quite good in this BCNM for flee. I can make up for most of what I lose from not subbing BLM in gear. The strategy would remain essentially the same, but you would have a way to put some distance between you and the Sheep at the times where you may really need to (Gravity wears off, they eat your Blink, and Stoneskin is gonna drop). Also, later in the battle you could flee up/down the hill ahead of a Grav'd sheep, and have a chance to potentially rest a tic or two (not sure how long the hill is). It's a shame that you can't bring staves to the fight, but it'd still be better than nothing. Just a thought. May not be worth what you lose, but from what I've read from the strategy for the fight, it seems like this may work reasonably well.

That is all

I was invited to do this BCNM one night,..because of my uber RDM-ness. Being level 57, I had to buy a good chunk of new armor to suffice at lvl 50. So I was determined to get back something to make up for this. Once we got to the BC, I learned of this magnificent strategy of kiting two sheep while other 4 fight. Party consisted of: PLD/WAR, WHM/SMN, BLM/WHM, DRG/WAR, RDM/BLM, RDM/WHM (ME).

Everyone had a stack of Poison Potions and food and such. A few refresh drinks and other stuff were there...but not much. We all rolled /random to see who went first,..as everyone had an orb and we were gonna do the "your Orb, your treasure" thing.....

The first battle went quite well,..me and the other RDM kited the two sheep pretty well,..and no one was in danger of dying and I don't think anyone got slept either (for any amount of time worth noting). Barsleepra won't do crap in this fight....having Poison Potions is necessary (maybe not for the RDM, but they should still carry a few if they have to backup heal and are near engaged sheep). Regening the poison is fine also...but the WHM should only do the PLD and other DD,...as our DRG often took a few major hits as well...(but did a superb job as a DD,...tho he didnt speak much, lol). Blink is on at all time....Garuda's Blinkga from the WHM/SMN had to help some although it costs 100 mp. RDM NEED BLINK AT ALL TIMES. Stoneskin/Phalanx at beginning and after it wears and you have enough time to cast. YOU WILL PROBABLY GET HIT AT LEAST ONCE as a RDM when you are trying to Gravity like a madman. If the sheep resists (it only did one time in the 3 rounds),..then make sure you have Blink and at least Stoneskin. To cast Gravity again will be a hard task when the sheep is constantly bashing you and you won't be able to cast at all at this time. Just keep blink up at least and keep spamming your Gravity. RDM DONT WORRY ABOUT POISON POTION UNTIL AFTER FIRST SHEEP IS DEAD...(or possibly if you have to come close to the sheep others are fighting). Although the leader had everyone use Poison Potions at every waking second, lol, I don't think it's necessary for some. The only time I fell asleep was when the first sheep died...and I brought my sheep up to be fought...they started fighting it and I forgot Poison wore...did Sleep Song,..and luckily someone cured...then one second later it plays Song again..lol...but we did ok. [Also one tip: there were several times when I was kiting my sheep and was near WHM and when he/she casted a Cure II or III....the sheep would go to WHM....so after Gravity you may want to establish a little more hate with quick spells like Poison II or Dia II or such.]

First fight,..we won.
Second fight,..we won. (Yay,..my roll too ^^) [got Ocean Stone,..and was too f'ing stupid to realize inventory had 1 f'ing space....OMG am i lucky I got the Stone and not a frickin Petrified Log or Manticore Hide,..or Tracker's Ring).
Third fight................sleep sets in once again and someone died...everyone decides to let everyone else die and all raise and fight again (we took down one sheep). Remembe,..this fight lasts 30 min. But believe me....those 30 min. go fast when you're dealing with Hostile Sheep. Everyone is unweakened...so the other RDM grabs the lonely sheep and PLD tanks other. We take it down fairly easy and get the other sheep. This is where things start to fall apart. Some people forget to use Poison Potions,..so healers are trying to spam cure but don't want hate. Sheep is almost dead...and then PLD DCs....omfg then DRG DCs....all the DCs for this BCNM happened to be synchronized lol. We even had a couple before trading the orb and entering. (Thank god lol). So its BLM, 2 RDM, and WHM pounding on this sheep. I Chainspell...and Water II my heart out..I think the other RDM either died again...or w/e cuz if he had Chainspelled too we might have won (unless it wasnt rdy). But we know the time limit is creeping up on us and we have to kill it soon. Someone used Club WS lol and killed it...(BLM i think). OMFG I saw the damn sheep keel over...and lo and behold...the time runs out A FRICKING SECOND BEFORE IT REGISTERS AS DEAD. We get NO treasure and boy was the BLM pissed (was his Orb and seals).

So, I agreed to help sometime again and I hope all goes well...because I think this is a very profitable BCNM for alot of diff. jobs (but 2 kiters (RDM/BST/SMN are essential).

Boy does that last DD and BLM have it easy lol...
The two RDM have everyone's lives in their hands lol.
IMO the RDM should get all the good treasure lol.

SE just changed this not to long ago, but the sheep cannot be charmed. Not to say a bst is useless in this BCNM. His little pets can work quite well for running a destraction while you beat down one of the sheep. Poison Poitions are a viable item to have along with you. I know its sounds dumb to add poison to yourself, but it will wake you from you slumber when you need to be worken up most. Poison can be countered by a simple regan, and yes, the poison will still wake you up because you are still taking damage, even if you can not see it. The best sounding strat is the 2 rdm/nin strat. The /nin will cause the rdm to lose a little spell power but will give them that extra second or 2 needed to cast gravity again, and once gravity is on, Utsetsemi is a piece of cake to recast. From all my reading, i have simply noticed that the best pt for this BCNM is as follows:
2 RDM/NIN
1 Tank - Pld or Nin (totaly up to you)
1 Healer - Whm for extra cure power or Rdm for Refresh and Convert (Rdm recomended if you have a Pld tank)
2 DD - Again, totaly up to you but I recomend Rng or Drk. (I say drk over drg in this instance because of their elemental powers and the ability to Drain)

Find a dark knight that has the barbarian's scythe and two sniper's rings and a life belt for this BCNM and your Damage dealing part of your pt will be in good shape. I did this as a dark knight with sniper's rings, life belt and the barbarian's scythe and i was doing 160 damage per hit with just food on. The war/nin i was with was only doing 80 or so.

Could two Bards replace the rdms. The brds could blink and eat crab defense boost food, ballad, and minne. Then run up with the party close behind them. Each sleep one sheep then the pt engages the sheep that wasn't slept and the brds run away. Once the sleep runs off resleep before they get to thew brd. If they go hit blink could block most of it. Anytime blink wears off recast. The brds could also both have a total of 4songs on them protecting them. the healer could also throw in a cure if brds got in trouble.

Once the rest of the pt kills the other sheep they could get one of the brd's sheep then fight that one while brds kept doing their thing over and over agian.

The sheep may be too resistant for sleep for it to work but brds have 2sleep spells.

The only problem with planning to use 2 hours is that you can only do the battle once every 2 hours. Most groups like to do the BCNM multiple times per trip.

I just did this bcnm twice tonight and boy am i pissed now... First of all we were supposed to do it only once and the whm was using his orb. We fail horribly when the rdm's (myself included) died from not gravitizing the sheep properly. Then we do it again and i agree to use the last of my seals... BTW im 1/6 for total complete bcnms 5 of which are using my own seals...

So we go again and the blm doesnt have a clue what to do cause he thinks he can elemental seal+sleep the sheep, so after repeatedly telling him not to and that he should use elemental enfeebles and nuke slowly until the first sheep has half life then 2H with freeze he goes in there and uses sleepII...

then after he gets aggro i gravity the sheep and it starts after me, so the blm follows me, and i keep tellin him to go back, go back, he doesnt make it back up to the circle arena until the whm is out of MP and paladins almost dead...
paladin dies first just half a second before i can cure4 him and we all die soon after.

the strategy for this is simple and I figure its easier than steamed sprouts. our party setup was rdm/nin, rdm/nin, whm/blm, blm/whm, drk/war, pld/war. rdm's sub ninja for utsusemi because it casts faster, lasts longer than blink and doesnt use any MP. Go in, buff completely and heal completely, rdm's have haste up as well as drk (rdm's for shorter recast time on gravity) and have the rdm's pick 2 sheep to gravity while pld tanks the third. Have one rdm run first down the hill then the second one follows after so as not to get them mixed up. Pld, Drk, Blm and Whm SHOULD have no problems beating the first sheep, especially when a rdm can come up and refresh/cure every 30 seconds or so....

Once the first rdm gets far down the hill, stop recast utsusemi and watch for gravity to wear off, recast gravity then run up, rinse and repeat. Utsusemi is very very important and the rdm should also have phalanx + stoneskin up as well just in case because once that sheep eats through your shadows he does constant sheep charge which stuns you and is very hard to recast gravity without.. dying.

So needless to say i was very pissed after the second attempt and the party disbands after failing on my orb... pisses me off that the blm just completely refused to listen to me.

No, sorry, the sheep are incredibly resistant to Sleep. I'm sure a BLM could replace one of the melee DDs, though. I believe sheep are weak against Water.

Locano,

Congrats on your win! Can you clarify some things about your method for beating this?

1. So by "up and down the hill" you mean the 2 RDM's used Gravity on 2 of the Sheep and pulled them OUT of the Burning Circle and down the hill and then back up the hill?

2. I take it everyone else gangs up on the 1 remaining Sheep in the center of the Burning Circle then? (^_^;)

3. Lastly, the 2 RDM's that were Gravity Marathoning/Training the 2 Sheep up and down the hill were able to survive the attacks from the 2 Sheep? (they didn't take too much damage?)

Thanks for your help! :)

Thank you very much ^^

To answer your questions:
1) Once you enter the Burning Circle, there is a rather long path you must run up to get to the "arena" where the Sheep are waiting for you. The RDMs don't run outside of the Burning Circle, just outside of the arena.

2) Correct, everyone else gangs up on the remaining Sheep.

3) The RDMs don't get hit too much by the Sheep because most of the time they will be far behind them (too far for the Sheep to hit the RDMs). Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Blink will keep the RDMs alive for the few seconds that the Sheep might be able to hit them. Without Phalanx, Stoneskin, or any DEF+ food, the Sheep hit me for around 120 HP.

Good luck!

I won this BCNM with a pick up party last night. Here's our set up:

RDM/BLM (me - No Phalanx)
RDM/BLM (leader - Phalanx)
DRG/WAR
DRG/WAR
PLD/WAR
WHM/BLM

RDMs cast Gravity and run up and down the hill. Everyone else should get Poison Potions to keep them awake (due to Sheep Song). WHM should try to stay far enough away not to get slept, but that's difficult. Once one is defeated, take another from the RDMs. Often the WHMs MP is pretty exhausted, so that RDM can take over healing while the WHM rests. Once that sheep is defeated, grab the last and kill it!

I think it would be helpful for the DDs to sub WHM or RDM so they would be able to wake up the other players in the event the WHM gets slept. However, this does cut down on the damage they would do...

In the end, we won 2 out of 4. Lost the first one because we were dumb. Lost the last one because of too many sleeps. Got an Ocean Stone ^.^

Good luck!

Congrats on your win!!

I never would have thought of using poison potions to combat sleep like that. As I'm an RDM, I'm wondering if having regen up will combat the -hp, while the poison effect keeps me awake. Or, do I have to actually lose hp in order to be woken up? I suppose I could have regen up and just drop the effect when sleep lands if that's the case. ;)

Regen will not counter the sleep-interupting effect of poison, as you will still get damage. Stoneskin however prevents ALL damage including dot, melee and nukes, so you can have Bio II and Poison II on you, and still sleep like a baby... you can even heal or log out with poison like that.

Thank you ^^

The RDMs aren't in danger of sleep until the end of the battle. You drag around a sheep with you, but it will never get enough TP to use it's sleep move. Once the party has defeated the first sheep, then you bring your sheep up, and you will begin participating in the battle. You might get slept once or twice, but it's not going to become a big deal, since the WHM will be able to wake you up (since the Poison Potion will have woken him/her up).

This is a very fun fight, much less dangerous than BCNM40, in my opinion. I can't wait to do it again!

need 2 bst, 2 smn or 1 of each. they use their pets to distract the other 2 sheeps while the other 4 kill the other sheep. smn's avatar can use 2 hour if it's almost dead. since astral flow is 3 minutes, they can drink ether/elixir, summon again and use 2 hour again.

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.

So from what I've gathered the Sheep will only use Sheep special attacks like Sheep Charge and Sheep Song? That is they don't use real physical attacks? My other question then is does anyone know if Sheep Charge goes through Utusemi and will the Sheep Song also cancel it? I was thinking of trying with 3 NIN or 2 NIN and a PLD like Phelisia suggested but am curious as to how Utusemi works in regards to these special attacks. Any help is much appreciated!

Ok, durring an update or something SE messed with this one. The sheep ARE NOT charmable anymore, but BSTs are still important in this one. We still haven't won this, but we're getting close.

PT Set up was:
BST/WHM
BST/WHM
WAR/NIN (PLD would be good also, the sheep seem to go through shadows)
WHM/BLM
RDM/BLM
DRG/WAR

The key to this one seems to be to kill on sheep as fast as possible while the BSTs use pets to distract the other two, and keep the away from the party. DRGs are ver good for this one, when buffed I could pull off almost 1k dmg pentas. In order to kill the first sheep asap we opted to use Icarus wings (Note: you can only use these once per every two hours) Skill chain was Penta > Raging Axe > Avalanch Axe > Spining Axe, you have to do this as soon as you can or the sheep start spaming sleep song on you.
After the first sheep explodes, move on to the next while the BSTs use two new pets to distract the 3rd, this will buy you more time than you had with the first. Don't wait for a SC just spam WS when you get it. Then just kill the last one, BSTs might use another pet just to do some extra damage.

We've only tried this once sofar and some lag and spamed sleep song killed us before we could us our WS'

tried today with blk/white, 2 monk/war, pally/war, brd/white, and white/black, lost horribly :( started off with a soul voice, attack up, acc up, boost boost boost boost etc brd tried to sleep em all, none stuck, died a few moments later. pally had 2, me (monk) assisted him on one, while the other monk took the third sheep since it went after the mages, these sheep are very very much so evil :/ they dont do a normal attack every 4 seconds or so they do sheep charge which hit me for 130-200 avg and crit for 440 once, with focus + dodge + 100 fists i was able to do 3126 points of dmg before i went down and the sheep still had | | much hp left, so im guessing anywhere from 3.5-4k hp each. we shall try again, but not today. oh yes, for whatever reason pally invincible did not pull all the sheep to him :/ 2 of the sheep just kept attacking the monks, best part was raging fists hit for 645, and the other hit for 547 (mine was 645 galka, while mithra hit for 547)...icarus wings might be an option, 8k each, BUT the items dropped on alexander server go up to as much as 1.2 mil so...ya...also last time :P the sheep never once used the sleep move

hope the info helps some

So does anyone have any proven strategies for this fight? I've gathered that the party should poison itself before the fight to prevent being slept, but what about crowd control? Maybe a MND debuff on the sheep plus a BRD with CHR+ items and food?

Here's your info: the reward seems nuts because this BCNM is very, very hard.

The Sheep have a very high resistance to sleep. I can't vouch for this but our PLD said he couldnt even use provoke on the sheep.

Maybe a team that had 2 BSTs with very expensive gear could do it by charming two of the sheep but I can't say.
