Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Star Orb, which is obtained by trading 40 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Star Orb to the Burning Circle inside Waughroon Shrine and choose to enter the battle The Worm's Turn.

Up to 6 people may enter and you will all receive a level 40 restriction. You have 30 minutes to win. You will fight Flayer Franz & 15 Flesh Eaters. Since they are worms, they are immobile, but unlike the other two BCNMs you have twice as many enemies to fight.

Both Flayer Franz & the Flesh Eaters can cast Stonega II, so it's advised to have a Bard use Horde Lullaby & Earth Carol constantly, as well as have a Black Mage use Sleepga to limit the amount of active worms.

Looking for imput from someone who has tried this one.

I'm wondering if it can be done with a range/mage tactic like you'd use with other worms in the game.. Does Franz has a summon ability? What grouping are the worms in, would you be able to single a few out and kill them from a distance?

He does indeed have a summon ability. ; ; He can draw in from as far back as the entrance too. Really nasty. Also, they're all grouped very tightly together.
I have a crazy idea for this one

If I can find a white mage gung-ho enough to test it, I have a strategy I want to try out. I call it the white mage magic tank mark III.

At lvl 40 white mages have magic resist II as a passive. The most damage coming from those worms will be from their -ga area spells, since they will hit all the melee near franz at the beginning.

Now, at the start of the fight, the WHM (on shell and barstone) will cast banishga on the bunch of worms, effectively drawing all range attacks to him. Then he will heal himself and four melee will start working on franz to kill him quickly. I'll have a PLD tanking franz since he can heal himself. Once franz his dead we'll start working the other worms as quickly as we can.

The fifth member will either be a BRD to sleep worms to keep the damage to the whm low, a second WHM to draw attention to himself with banishga so we can divide the damage, or a heavy damage dealer to kill franz more quickly at the start.

I'll tell you how it goes, and more importantly, if the WHM survived.

this strategy sounds even better considering that the highest DEF armor you can get at 40 is the Divine Breastplate at 50 def... and it's WHM only!

That sounds like an idea at least worth a try, pretty brillaiant, actually. Please come back and tell us how it went. You might want to consider having a 'durable' whm, and not a taru for this.

Well, this was a few months back, but I forgot I'd post that here. Here's how it went :

First Fight :
The blm disconnected right when we entered the fight. Like I predicted, the WHM were able to get hits by spells after spells having little problem staying alive. But the loss of a big DD member made it too long to kill Franz, which drew in the WHM(who had tons of hate from healing himself). Once the WHM was very close a few Stonegas hit all of the party, making for a big mess. Would have worked.

Second fight :
Well, the blm was back, and he tried a sleepga at the start (I really didn't want him to, but he did). Resisted, drew aggro, got destroyed by the second volley of spells cast at him. At this point it was pretty much the same fight as #1, with the BLM being dead instead of disconnected.

I might try this later on with my new static forming up soon. I still like the concept of a "magic tank".

Shellra

FYI, a WHM would have at most Shellra II for this Level 40 cap fight.

Other than that, Earth Carol and Barstonra are nice additions to the fight. So are earrings and shields that increase your defense to stone-elemental damage.

Bard's Earth Carol and WHM's Shellra II/III/IV and Barstonra should always be up in this battle. I haven't done it, but it amazes me that people overlook magic and elemental defense.

ok i juss finished doing 6 of these str8 with a trusted Pt and it CAN really be hard (first 2 times we died ><). our pt setup was 3 blm 2 whm 1 rng. 2 blms devote themsleves to sleepga all the worms while 1blm and 1rng focus on the NM. barstonra is necesary , and shellra 2 helps. each blm should get into place an both cast sleepga on opposite sides to get the most worms asleep, the rng then proceeds to mash the ugly NM worm in the middle (along w the other BLM with highest INT). one of the blm will get pulled into the middle while the other is sleeping other worms. turn ur compas to face WEST and run that way towards ur pt. whms heal quickly. do not miss healls !!!! be sure to keep barstonra up. and i dont recomend a brd for this battle since once the NM dies it is VERY easy and brd wont be needed or used (i am a 51brd by the way). juss have BLMs switch off casting GA spells all day long to kill other worms. rest, procede again. very very easy once the NM is dead, but killing the ugly NM worm is a painand is hard make sure to spam sleepga as much as possible. certain worms will give u the most sleeps from AOE so u need to find those w experience (such as the actual worm u target w your sleepga). please please keep sleep up even if u think its over casting, bc if sumone gets sucked in and a bunch of worms are awake it can get nasty.
also remember that prebuffs are nice but u wont be beating the battle in under 20 min until u get used to the fight and they buffs wont help u too much once all the worms mash you.
Im in TITAN if u need ne help juss /tell me and ill c wat i can do ^^ GL on the money making

I wouldn't go with their party either! = Dead RNG. Ok Replace one of the WHM's for PLD and let the Tank Tank!. 2 BLM's a must and 1 RNG is almost a must in my mind. 1 Slot open for RNG or BLM or RDM. Yes RDM is useless after Head Worm is gone but DeBuffs/Cure Releif/Nukes are good.
