Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that six players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Time Bomb, a single bomb type mob.

While the Time Bomb does not actually attack the players, as soon as damage is inflicted on it, a sixty second countdown will begin whereupon if it is not defeated, it will Self-Destruct, inflicting 9,999 damage to everyone in range, and will result in a loss for the BCNM.

In order to spawn the armoury chest, the Time Bomb must be defeated within a minute of being first attacked.

Strategies

Because of the short window of time that the Time Bomb must be defeated in, damage dealing must be a priority. Since Time Bomb does not attack at all, there is no need for a tank or a white mage for the fight.

Melee and Black Mage strategy

A recommended strategy would involve two melee capable of performing a fusion skillchain and four Black Mages.

  • Take note that although logically they should be resistant to Fire elemental damage, they are in fact weak to Fire.

Upon entering, have the Black Mages open the fight with a timed Elemental Seal Freeze. As soon as the spells connect, have the two melee begin to attack while the Black Mages spam their best spells. When the melees have enough TP, perform a Fusion skillchain and have the Black Mages magic burst with Fire II. This strategy works best if the two melee are Samurai, because they can Meditate upon entering the BCNM (and then because of the 30 minute time limit of the battlefield itself, you can afford to wait and allow the Meditate recast timer to reset), as well as use their Meikyo Shisui.

Melee and Red Mage strategy

This strategy is similar to the previously mentioned strategy, except that it requires around four Red Mages with their Chainspell ability ready.

Upon entering the BCNM, have the Red Mages activate their two hours and begin spamming Fire II while the melee attack and perform Fusion skillchains as often as possible. Because the Red Mages are using Fire II as quickly as possible, timing for magic bursting off the skillchains won't be necessary. Once the Red Mages run out of mp, simply Convert to restore mp and continue on.

the great thing about skillchains is that anything that mb seems to never get resisted, so my plan for this bcmn would be eather blm blm blm blm blm sam, the stratagy is that the sam self skillchains while the blms mb freeze, they they just spam thier other spells for as much damage as posible, would this work?

Also from what i seen mobs are not week to anything but just has high resistance to the element thats weak to the crystal the monster drops. but then again people thing that hate "spikes and gradualy diminishes" so whatever (im a pld, i think id notice if my hate randomly diminished, i have to create hate the entire fight to match the DD hate. duh.)
great practice for the CoP mission

Well if you want to try that out I guess. So bunch of rdms and mnks a sam and nins smn and the crap that does loads of dmg at once. Got to tell my friend there full of crap they thought astals drop from this I didn't think so.

edit: btw invisible wouldn't work even if surving = win explosion is magic like dmg blast through invisible sadly.

When you post a comment do you read all the posts? Read the information before posting. There is such a thing as a stupid question! For example
Quote:
Just out of curiousity, has anyone tried using a PLDs 2-hour to survive the blast? If it works you can basically solo this thing every 2 hours and get all the items to youself.
If you read all the posts you would know the answer to that question, also because 50 people already asked the same question.

And please know what your talkiing about before you post. ...Bombs weak to water and ice?!

I agree. Please know what you're talking about. This Bomb is actually weak to Fire only.
Weak to fire, not likely.

rate down for being sarcastic and stupid at the same time.

Bombs are weak to fire. Take bomb queen ring as proof.

Also, fire is strong against ice, not the other way around, so using that logic, they *would* be weak against water only.

Bombs have always been weak to fire. It doesn't make any sense, but that's kinda the point. Its one of the great "wtf?" things in FF.

Bombs have always absorbed fire in the other Final Fantasy games. It's stupid but they are in fact weak to fire in this game.

the problem with NINs using Mijin Gakure is that the damage is proportional to the NINs HP and the mob has 9999 HP so you would need 10 NINs with 1,000 HP each to make that work.
stupid idea
# Aug 21 2005 at 6:38 PM Rating: Default
Hmmm, the idea might be stupid, but is this soloable for a WHM?

Go in
cast reraise
attack the bomb
let it blow up, die
use reraise

Bomb is blown, you live. Just a stupid theory, anyone tested this or got an idea if it works?
Cheers
Gisselle

The post before your states it has to be killed by a PC. If it self-destructs you lose.

There is no possible way to survive the bomb blast unless you are out of the radius in which case you still lose because it has to be killed by a PC. Once the timer starts it cannot be stopped. Sleep, stun ect. ect. I don't know if Invincible would prevent death, but honestly, it doesn't matter.
why wudnt u think of this sooner?

Just a thought, but im of the firm belief that instead of sam sam rdm rdm rdm rdm, you substitute 1 rdm for a bard, bard 2hrs, hits sams with minuet march, and each rdm gets a learned etude, and the bomb munches on a fire carol, and then bard melees it for crap dmg =P from here on its as the 4xrdm setup, but with 1 less rdm, but each rdm doing lots more dmg/fire II and the sams also doing improved dmg. Any thoughts? Comments?
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 05 2005 at 1:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) uh huh, i solo'd this bcnm today. <DRG54/THF15> killed the fool in about 20 minutes, maybe a little less after using Super Jump at the 1 second till explosion mark. Got absolutely nothing! WTF WTF WTF?! If square isnt going to let you do that, then id prefer dying after the first minute not going through the whole battle, winning, and getting nothing. This is actually the second time ive tried it, the first I didnt have a weapon so I couldnt kill it within the 30 minute time limit, so theres 100 seals gone, not to mention how F'ing long it took to get them. Square is going to hear about this though...
freeze?

Don't forget that the cast time on freeze is 20 seconds so you will only have enough time to get one round of freeze in.
