Summary

You have been asked to return a dropped item to its rightful owner. The passenger should be on the next airship flight.

Walkthrough

Passing through Customs you run into Grin who says he found something that was dropped by a passenger on the airship and asks you return it.

  • If you agree, he shows you a picture of the passenger and asks you to make sure you've memorized the picture.

Once you board the Airship and it takes off:

  • You will find several passengers on the ship all wearing similar, but not exactly the same attire.
  • When you talk to the one you think it is, you are given the option of returning the item.
  • If you find the right one, he thanks you and gives you 500G reward.

You can also start this quest from the Airship Port in San d'Oria, Windurst, and Kazham.

Fame?
# Nov 29 2006 at 4:53 AM Rating: Decent
How much fame does it give you each time?
Can this one lower fame?
# Aug 07 2006 at 9:50 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering... if you don't succeed in giving the item to the passenger OR you mistake the passenger, will your fame go down?

I am worried since two times I didn't give the passengers the items (I forgot) and other two times I just confounded them and gave the item to the wrong one.

You can do this without leaving the airship area, I'm doing it and averaging about 8-10 an hour.

To get the Airship Pass you either have to be Rank 5 or pay 500,000gil to the guy across from the AH in Lower Jeuno.

Then why not do it in Kazham? You don't need rank 5 for that.

You could, but that'd only boost Kahzam fame. To do the quests for the three nations, you have to have the normal airship pass.

Raising Kazham fame means raising windurst fame. The two fames are connected.

The title "Very Discerning Individual" can be gotten by discerning one citizen of every race.
I think "Extremely Discerning Individual" comes from discerning each face type, but I'm not sure.

I know this because I did many, many non-taru versions of this. (Taru equipment is small!) Finally I succeeded on a taru one and got "Very Discerning."

I do believe getting these titles are directly related to how many times you successfully complete this quest. I have yet to receive a Taru as a passenger, and i just received the title "Very Discerning Individual."

Hope this helps

I think this quest is directly related to how many times you successfully complete the quest. I have been doing this quest for many hours now, to raise fame in Bastok, I have yet to have a Taru, and I got the title Very Discerning Individual.

I don't think this is true. I've been doing this quest to up my fame in Bastok, and i have yet to get a taru ... my last one was a hume and I got Very Discerning Individual. I believe the title is directly related to how many times you finish this quest correctly.

Excellent work and a rate up for broaching the subject of how the titles are awarded in this quest.

I'd like to make a call for research on how the additional, "Extremely discerning..." title is awarded. I had thought that it may have been after a certain number of successful completions, but reading Zvi's post, I'm more inclined to believe his theory.

Can anyone positively confirm how the 3rd title is gained?

This happened to me to and I also was confused. but try this. check your key items and see if you have one you either forgot or didnt have the cahnce to give to its rightful passenger. In my case it turned out i had one from windy and never gave it back to the guy that gave it to me.

This is happening to me as well. I do not receive this quest anymore. Have spoken to GM and POL and neither have provided an explanation as to why.

Ok, here's the deal with you not being able to do this quest anymore. It happened to me as well. I was on the airship, and I D/C'd. By the time I got back on, we were just entering town, so I couldn't give the item to any passenger. If this happens (you still have the item, check under Key Items), you must go back to same guy that gave you it. He says something like, Oh you couldn't find the passenger? I'll just take the item back and give it the Port Authority. Then you can do the quest again. :)
Hope this clears everything up.
GIL

I dunno if this raises your fame or not that much but I did this for a little while and got 500 gil a pop. I did not go back in the building I just stayed out on the docks u have enough time to run to guy chk the person 3 times and get back on the ship w/o paying and u get 500g if u r right. This is for people to impatient like me to camp Leaping Lizzy or any NM and not have it drop just to camp again.

I think the time and gil you would spend would outweigh the benefit. If you figure 200 gil each way and then have to wait for the airship your probably spending an hour and 1600 gil to do 4 quests. My personal favorite way to increase fame is to do the "only the best" quest in Selbina. You buy, corn, cabbage or boyhada moss at the auction house, or you can farm them, then go trade it to the guy by the chocos in Selbina and get a quest done for each trade. As for the numbers I know its 1 moss = 1 quest, i think its either 3 or 4 each on the other items = 1 quest. I like the moss best because you can stack it and get 12 quests out of one inventory slot. The moss goes for around 8-9K per stack on Kujata and the NPC gives you 600 each when traded to him plus fame. So, you recover most of your gil and get loads of fame. I have used this technique to get fame in Sand'oria and Jueno and I read it works for Bastock also. I have the first 3 Gobbie bags quests done as a result and the first mog house expansion.
Hope this helps!

It doesn't cost 200 gil each way, just dont get off the docks.
This quest only starts in Khazam, Bastok, San D'Oria and Windurst. So it will take a little time to get back and forth unless you warp back somehow to the port and pay another 200 gil to get inside before the boat leaves.

I started this quest. Sandoria has control of Zulkhiem so i did OP Supplies quest with a 20+ char so you can warp back and forth. I buy from an NPC in North Sandoria next to the fountain, who sells corn. If you are lucky and his region is under Sandorian Control you buy as much corn from him as you can. Run over to the TRansport NPC and get Transported to Valkrum Outpost (need to so Zulkhiem supplies quest for your Sandoria) and i trade to him 3 corn and get 120 gil back. I was buying Corn from NPC at 141 for 3, and getting 120 back for 3. So this is not a bad loss for how quick it is. Good luck

Not completely true, sandy just needs to be in frist or second and you can buy stacks or millioncorn in the grocey store in south sandy, got lvl 9 fame off it and only took about 2 hours using warp and running since i was lvl 19 blm

RE: Fame
# May 02 2005 at 7:03 AM Rating: Decent
synthing on the ship during departure and landing will fail and cause loss of all items in the synth. When you get the cutscene is a bad time to synth but other than that craft away. Oh avoid spells while crafting as well, protectra doesn't help with success >.<

Limits?
# Apr 05 2004 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
My bf and I have both done this quest a number of times, and now neither of us can get the quest. Is there a limit to the number of times you can do it?
RE: Limits?
# Apr 07 2004 at 6:50 AM Rating: Decent
No there is no Limit on the ammount of times you can do this quest.

Iam a Rank 10, with Max fame in all cites, and I can still do it.

There maybe a glith in your game, or your Fame went down? Dont know how it can go down...but maybe that is what happen, do i few quests first in that specific city then go back to that one and check it.
RE: Limits?
# Apr 09 2004 at 8:26 AM Rating: Decent
I cant do the quest either from any port... I think I know why. I was doing the kazahm one and had to warp off the ship to save a friend before i could find the person. If you look under your current quests you'll still see it listed. I have a feeling you have to go back to kazham and return the luggage to the guy to finish the quest as a fail to get it at another town.
RE: Limits?
# Apr 10 2004 at 12:09 PM Rating: Decent
go back to the npc from the town you picked up the quest in and talk to them to end it. The problem arises if you do not find the passenger(or the right passenger) before you can pick up the quest you need to return the item to the NPC that gave it to you. since its a key item, you just talk to them and its taken care of. then the next time you talk to them you pick up the quest again
