Description

Should you ever break a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod, and you don't have enough Woodworking skill to repair it yourself, Irmilant will repair it for you. He requires you give him Ancient Lumber and 2 Light Crystals and the Broken Lu Shang's Fishing Rod so he can repair it.

Of course, if you have a very high Woodworking skill (80+) it's cheaper to repair it yourself (Ancient Lumber is extremely expensive).

How can I get my hands on a broken fishing rod?
RE: the rod
# Jul 07 2005 at 4:30 AM Rating: Good
Snap it on your knee. May take a couple tries, and possible side effects may include, but are not limited to: sore or possibly broken knee, fear of splinters, fear of fishing rods, and fear or hatred towards some guy named "Lu".

You're only allowed 100 crafting skill lvls, distributed evenly among the crafts. (Fishing doesn't count.)

# Sep 03 2004 at 1:14 AM Rating: Decent
Um, wrong. You're allowed a total of 40 skill points to be spread across all skills over 60. You could have every skill at 60.

And to expand on that. Once you get all to 60, and spend your 40 points wherever, you can then deduct points from anything you took past 60 and add it to something else.

Example:
Clothcraft 60
Leathercraft 60
Goldsmithing 60

I have 40 points, so I do this.
Clothcraft 80
Leathercraft 70
Goldsmithing 70

But now I want higher Leather! So I deduct and do this.
Clothcraft 60
Leather 90
Goldsmithing 70

8k isnt too bad to fix a rod, esp. Lu Shang's fishing rod
Why want?
# Jun 25 2004 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
Because if you don't have enough wood working. Unless ancient lumber cost 500,000 gil or something then you would just level wood working or alchemy?

Well, I have lvl 9 Fame in Raboa, and can't get this quest... but, I've never broken this fishing rod... maybe that is why?

This quest was the first thing I did when I got my lu shangs (went to ferry and broke it to do the quest).

When you talk to him he says (along the lines) "I see you have a broken lu shangs rod bring blah blah."

But it does work.

You would want to do this quest if you have a Lu Shang's fishing rod and you can't fix it yourself...

I wouldn't want to hand over a broken Lu Shang to a crafter I didn't know well that claimed to be high enough to fix it. You never know which one would fix it and return it, and which one would DC and play dumb. After all, Squeenix wouldn't help you out if you got screwed.

RE: name

Right, and you get the title "Carp Diem" for doing that. You get the other title, "The Immortal Lu Shang", for getting it repaired in Rabao.

Edit: I should think before I type XD

To tell you the truth, you're all wrong.

The quest to get Lu Shang's fishing rod is called "The Competition"

"To tell you the truth, you're all wrong." XD

(Ummm..) Actually... depending on which brother you talk to to start the quest, you will get a different title. 'The Competition' OR 'Gallijaux and Jouliet'

gg thx

The Competition (Joulet) OR The Rivalry (Gallijaux).

In my little world, Joulet is first because he's the one getting all my Moat Carp :)
