Summary

The Rhinostery has developed a new "mini" tuning fork of ice. Ringing it upon the protocrystal in Fei'Yin will open the path to a one-on-one battle with the beast that awaits inside. However, only summoners are allowed to take up this challenge.

Walkthrough

Things to remember:

  • This is a solo battle.
  • There is a level 20 cap on this battle.
  • There is a 15-minute time limit.
  • You can only use Carbuncle.

Speak to Castilchat in Northern San d'Oria, standing next to Gulmama. You must have at least level 4 fame in the Kingdom of San d'Oria before he will allow you to do this quest. If you meet the requirements, he will present you with a Mini Tuning Fork of Ice.

  • This is not a key item, like the Tuning Fork of Ice, and therefore requires a space in your inventory.

When you have made your preparations, trade the Mini Tuning Fork of Ice back to Castilchat. He won't keep it. Trading him the Mini Tuning Fork of Ice will warp you directly to the Cloister of Frost for the fight.

Try to fight Shiva on Firesday and do not fight her on Iceday

Upon defeating her, you will receive the ability to summon Shiva to your side.

This might sound stupid, but when u go try to get protect, shell and stuff from other ppl, if u got a hermits wand, and heko-obi+1 you dont need aquaveil, it is good to have Brd as ur subjob, sounds stupid right? well when you start the fight use light thereondy b4 u go and use the 3 SLs to be able to kill the avater without any melee whatever, just make sure u got some refreshing drinks, and maybe 2 ethers and youll be fine

***It's not "easy as pie" but they arent terribly hard either given they don't 2 hour you or paralyze/freeze you or anything like that. There's a small amount of luck involved, but not so bad once you get a rhythm down.****Shotie

All of the Avatars will 2 hour you....usually after the second Searing light so get away.
You'll know they 2 houred when your full health carby dies in an instant if you aren't close enough to see the text

The first thing that Ramuh will do is Paralyze you using Thunderspark and after the first searing light he will usually come paralyze you again.
You are right there these fights aren't that bad but it takes a lot of luck and there is not a lot of room for mistakes

___There is no point in bringing or using any items that raise your max MP. All of that extra MP will be gone after the first searing light. so save Your money for hp Regen items Def boost items or something to restore health.

Just a few little things i have learned doing these battles that seems to be in confusion here

Just a few things. I find fighting them on lightsday easier, but to clear up a few rumors that were told to me. One you don't need to kill the avatar with carby to get them I killed shiva here with dia, and I got her. Which leads me to my next statement I fought her did 3 searing lights 210 each had her down low. learned from titan once they get close no way you can resummon carby so I said ***** it and decided to melee her only spell I got off was dia and I am glad, she killed me and I was upset so I said ***** it I will let my death counter run out. Next thing I saw was Shiva falls to the ground. I get the cut and get shiva and then appear out of the trial dead on the ground good laugh for me first to ever get a avatar on my LS. Oh and for items used 2 ethers 2 yagudo drinks and 3 hi potions (only cause I started melee her and I forgot to raise protect when fight started)
Shiva hp
# Oct 10 2004 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
Shiva has more like 550-600 hp....hit for 210 210 210 with searing light. The last 210 was more than needed because she was lower than 1/3 health
Help!!

last night i broke the record for this on quetzalcoatl by 9 seconds. my time was 3:44. anyone ever done it faster?
melee dmg required?
# Sep 16 2004 at 1:24 AM Rating: Decent
if shiva has 900 hp, wouldn't you + carby need to melee for 900-210-210-210 = 270 dmg?

Is this statement valid or is Shiva's hp less than whats given here.
Preparation
# Sep 10 2004 at 11:51 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I just did this battle, second avatar battle and i lost. I was kind of drunk, my fault, definitely bring extra hi-potions if you are not fully prepared, the thing that i need to work in is getting the avater to hate carbuncle instead of me, if she would have pummeled carbuncle in the last few seconds of the fight, i might of got the last searing light off. Other than my lack of preparation, this is a very easy battle, I will win next round.

So I have been attempting these avatar battles for some time now. I have spent alot of time trying to beat them

3 loses to titan, 2 loses to ifrit, a 1 to shiva. But I think I finnaly got the pattern down, it seems to me after fighting shiva, that the melee it to death option wont work. I fought shiva, got her down to less than 1/4 life (2 searing lights, 3rd going off) and my carbuncle MISSED his searing light!.... I didnt think that was possible, but I almost had her, only lost 1 yagado and a boiled crab and 3 potions so it wasnt too costly, gonna try it again.
These aren't that hard...

Edit: GO ON LIGHTSDAY PLEASE! IT WILL BE MUCH EASIER!

First off, fight on Lightday, there is no better day as Searing Light will ALWAYS do more damage on lightsday.
I used 1 Yag. Drink, 1 Boiled Crab, 1 Orange au Lait (regen HP), and 2 ethers. All in all, about 4k ish.
DON'T summon carby until the topish, no point.
Protect, Aquaveil and Crab outside crystal...enter.
Run to the top, not the VERY top, but near it, summon carby.
Assault on Shiva, Yag Drink, Astral Flow, Searing light, take a hit while aggro comes to you.
Run all the way down.
Don't resummon carby until she gets halfway down the path.
Searing Light is back, use and ether if you don't have 40 MP.
Take aggro as it hits, run to the very top, but where you can still see Shiva.
Again don't summon till she's halfway up the path.
Third Searing Light will be ready by the time she and carby get back to fighting.
Use ether if needed.
End of Fight if Lightsday.

The reason you don't summon Carby right after dead is because when he hit's Shiva, that gives Shiva TP for her 2HR. So melee carby as little as possible.
You don't need Carby to hit her a few times first. Start the fight with Searing Light, it is much faster and easier.
Beat the existing record with 3:27.

Good Luck!

****...I hate it when they use their 2Hrs...bye bye carby, and recast timer is gone...AHHH! Other than that, strategy was going easy and beautifully, same thing happened with Titan, kept using his 2Hr, just gotta keep trying!

Gaines, I know the feeling.

A bit of a tip:

If you are Tarutaru, the three searing lights method works best, since we don't have much in the HP or DEF department and can't take that many hits.

Here's how I did it:

I brought 12 Fish mithkabobs(only need one for the fight)
4 Yagudo drinks (I used 2)
3 Ethers (I used one)
3 Hi-Potions (I used one)
I tried to get a Protect and Shell II, Barblizzara, and Ice Carol, but I couldn't find anyone available. So I went ahea and had Gulmama warp me to the Cloister of Frost. When outside the crystal, before you TRADE the mini tuning fork of ice, cast protect on yourself and aquaviel. I suggest you get a Heko Obi +1 and a Hermits Wand from the AH for this, they will down spell interruption rate a total of 33%, and with aquaviel you should never be interrupted. Now use the Fish Mithkabob for 25% more defense. Go into the battle by trading the fork to the crystal. Once inside, use a Yagudo drink and summon Carbuncle. Run up the long walkway and target shiva, it is imperitive that you do not get close to her. Spam your macro for /pet "Assault" <t> till Carby goes and attacks, when he lands his fourth hit, activate Astral Flow. Use searing light immediatly. When you tell him to do SL and he starts to charge, stand there for a second, Shiva may aggro you. Once it hits her, your MP will go to 0, but don't worry, with the Yagudo drink on, you will keep carby out and get 2mp/3sec. Wait for blood pact to come back and then do SL again, sumon carby again if needed. Don't go too far from her this whole time, unless you need to use an ether which you should not, but you may need to use another Yagudo Drink. I pulled off three searing lights and she had barely any life left. Carby hit her one last time melee, and she died. If your first SL only does around 100 damage, you'll be ok, mine did too. But it's important to let carby hit her a few times before using SL the first time, as that ensure that she goes down a bit in life.

Also, fight her on Firesday, I fought her on Earth, but she's weaker on Fire, and never fight these on Darksday, Carby is as weak as a Rarab on this day. Just, don't fight her on Ice or Dark and you should be fine ^^

Good luck to you all!

So here we go...
I fought her today and my heart was poundin'! Im very nervous at this point see as how the AH was sold out of Boiled crab but I try anyway.

I entered buff with protect 1, and Aquavail no shell and no one to give me one. I try to eat my slice of land crab meat (thinking like a newb :P) and of course that dosent even work... GREAT! I cast carby at the bend and engage Shiva....
WAIT I FORGOT TO DRINK MY YAGUADO DRINK to late.
I drink my drink and Searing light and book for the entarance carby dies I have 20 mp I recast. He autoengages shiva I have 31 mp, I start to book for the zone, and have 40 mp, so Searing light, and an ether. Carby lives and dosnt poof out cause of my Yaguado drink but I now posses aggro so to keep carby alive while I tick the seconds that my heart is jumping in my throught in I cast dia and notice 40mp Searing light and she was finishied :)

Hope this helps, Good luck to those fighting her

P.s.- Im always on drop me a line

Shiva took a whlie for me too beat but I actually beat today with not a record time but at least i can said i got Shiva. My time was 8:02. Its not to bad. The way I did it was to fight shiva on wind day and take my time.
The items i used were 1 Ether, 3 Yag drinks, pumpkin pie and a pear au lait. Basically i attack her with melee attacks and also poison nail until i had to use my last drink. Then I used my 2hr Astral Flow and searing light twice and the battle was over. If ur not going for the record I recommend u follow this method. Just watch out for Shiva's 2hr Diamond dust it does 120-150 damage.
I hope this helps you
Elvaan?
# Jul 20 2004 at 2:19 PM Rating: Decent
Ok Im a lvl 16 SMN/BLM and I would like to fight Shiva First Cause shes the hardest (from what I've heard) and I already have lots of San D'oria fame. But the only thing is I need Tips on how to fight her with an Elvaan SMN. Everybody tells me Elvaans are bad WHM, BLM, and SMNs But I really like my Elvaan and I really like Summoner. So i wanted to know is it any different Fighting her with an Elvaan?

Nope. If you use the 3 Searing Light method, your MP won't really even matter.
And you'll be able to survive easier when you take aggro.
But I'd wait till 20ish to do this.

Good luck!

Why bother with Astral Rings that raise your MP? First Searing Light you do, it's gonna ALL be gone, so why bother eating any pies, or anything that raises MP to that effect when MP does NOT matter during these fights?

I read posts all the time about people eating Rolanberry pies for extra 50MP and I wonder WHY? One Searing Light and BAM! NO MP! >.<

I beat Shiva a few minutes ago on Windsday-she wasn't weak, Carbuncle wasn't strong. 3 Ethers, 1 Yag drink and 4 potions cause I got a ton of hate from her. She froze us both, but I got 3 Searing Lights off on her and BAM! Fight over.

It's not "easy as pie" but they arent terribly hard either given they don't 2 hour you or paralyze/freeze you or anything like that. There's a small amount of luck involved, but not so bad once you get a rhythm down.

hey ppl i went for shiva today and it was a fire day as u wont it to be and when i got in there she acted like it was ice day or some n cuz my SL (2hr) only did 100 damage to hre and i did it 3 times, still she didnt go down so i found out that if u fight avatars on a darkday when they r all week it goes much better it evens everything out so on one gets any boosts. so go for the avataers on a DARK day and not there weeknedd day thats what worked for me <{:D

The sad thing is the records are meaningless as i have found out since they reset them at updates(not sure when but i know they reset them)
I have broken the records for shvia, titan, and garuda, i also set the record for levithan...that being said someone who went to fight titan after an update had brought up the record and it was at 3:43 i think i know it was 3:40s and i had set the record for titan at 3:26 when i beat him...
so unless you took a picture there isn't anything but your word to go on...which is why i think they don't put the name of the current record holder
Unexpected at the least...

I logged on today to see if my stuff had sold on the AH, and decided to burn my mana pool real quick to see if i could level my Summoning Magic a bit in prep for the avatar battles, but before I decided to log off I noticed that it was Firesday and since I was in san'd Oria Shiva was in quick easy reach. I had already bought the potions i thought that i might need ahead of time for when i was ready, and my inventory was now full as a result, so I figured what the hell, I need to make some room, ill go get my *** kicked by Shiva Prime. I shouted real quick for someone to please give me a high protect and shell, but no luck there so i self buffed a protect and headed for the NPC. Traded my fork and smacked the big blue crystal to get in the field. Since I didnt expect to win I didnt bother thinking much before I acted. So I ran right up around the bend opened my macros that I made while leveling my skill (which wasnt capped, 59) Used a Yagudo Drink to regen my MP and a Pear au Lait to regen my HP (hoping this would save me from using the hi-potions i bought). Summoned carby and ran up towards her, she wasted no time attacking so I just hit my 2hr and immediately searing light while she swung at me. As soon as it hit and carby had her attention I ran around the bend and stopped to drink an ether. By the time she killed carby I was ready for recast and had one waiting for her when she got around the corner. I had to wait a couple seconds and take a few hits before i could use searing light but nothing major. The Pear au Lait was great, it kept my health in the white after her attacks. Ran back to the top again, and used my second ether, a moment later i watched carbys second half of health disappear in an instant which i assume was her 2hr freezin his poor glowy ***. So i quickly brought out one more carby, waited for her to get close enough took a couple hits and let her have the last searing light. DEATH! didnt even have to draw my staff out at all. The fight went so quick and so easy I couldnt believe I had one. I screamed the good news at my LS and used my scroll of instant warp that i was rewarded with to return and show off my new Shiva summon. The best part is that because I ran in without worrying cause I expected to die that I wasted no time and broke the battle field clear time record! So, here is the moral, dont be afraid of these fights, they might cost a bit but they are fun, so enjoy them, if you dont understand now you will soon.
So all I needed for items were a Yagudo drink, 2 ethers, and a Pear au Lait. Oh, and good macros, save so much time.
I hope my little unexpected victory helps at all.

What macros do you have? I only have the pet commands (except Blood Pact or whatever it is) on my macros as well as my summons...what other macros should I have before going into this?
