Description

Vamorcote needs you to find a key that was apparently buried in the Batallia Downs. The key he is looking for is actually dropped from a Notorious Monster Tree type mob. This NM Tree is called Ahtu and spawns at J-11 in the Batallia Downs on a small island. You will need 1 other person besides yourself before you begin your journey. Make sure that each of you can cast Sneak and Invisible on yourselves. Also be sure to bring along a WHM or BLM, so you can Teleport, or Warp after you are finished. If you can't seem to find one, try to get a Scroll of Instant-Warp. It is also recommended that you should be of level 55 or higher. Ahtu can tend to hurt.

When you're finally ready, head out to Batallia Downs and go to I-10 inside the small cave. This is the entrance to Eldieme Necropolis. Once inside, put sneak on, and ALWAYS keep it on. Now head to J-8 with your partner. Then go South to I-9. This is where you and your partner will split up. Have one person go to H-9, where they should be standing in front of Shiva's Gate. If this gate is in fact open, walk inside and turn immediately south. This is Titan's Gate, and it should be closed. If Shiva's Gate is not open, the other person must then open it.

The person still standing at I-9 must proceed North into I-8. Put invisible on and then proceed to H-8. There is a Bomb type mob here, who detects by sight and magic, so do not cast anything around him, and make sure you are invisible before going to H-8. Pass by the bomb into another small room, and you will see a switch. Take invisible off, and then hit the switch. Now Shiva's Gate will open, if it was previously closed.

Have the person at H-9 walk through and face South toward Titan's Gate, then hit the switch again, so that Shiva's Gate closes, and Titan's Gate opens. If Shiva's Gate is already open, you only have to hit the switch once to make Titan's Gate open.

Now the person near the switch needs to put invisible back on, and head down to H-9, near Shiva's Gate. Meanwhile the person who just went through Titan's Gate will proceed to G-9. In front of them will be a room with 9 Grave Pits in it, along with a few mobs. DO NOT walk on the Grave Pits themselves. They are actually invisible holes that will drop you down to a lower level of caves. Now to let the other person through, proceed north to G-8 in a small room. There is another switch you must hit to open and close the doors again, letting your partner in.

Once you are with your partner again, go back to G-9 with the 9 Grave Pits, go directly to the grave pit in the middle, and stand in the middle of it. You will then fall to a cave-like area, and you will be on a different map at L-12. Head East into another map and you will now appear at G-7. Finally proceed to J-9 and exit out into Batallia Downs again.

This time you will appear at J-11 on the island. It's not a very big island, so just run around until you see Ahtu, he looks like a giant walking tree, rather hard to miss. If he isn't up, you may have to wait for a while, or come back at a later time. If he is up, kill him and make sure to get the Engraved Key from him. Now you can warp off the island, or teleport, or walk back inside Eldieme Necropolis and use Escape to get out.

Finally return to Vamorcote in San d'Oria North, and trade him the key to receive your reward.

I annihilated Ga'Bhu the Unvanquished in Beadeaux as a Lv65 Rng, so with that said, this guy should be significantly easier right?

Just beat this guy last night. 49WHM/24BLM (me) and a 50PLD/25WAR. Just us two. Had some fun doing it. Got it down to about 1/4 health then it started getting pretty hairy. I used Dia 2 and Banish 2 twice which chipped away at it's health slowly, also I Hasted and Regen 2'd the PLD. We were good for a little bit. The PLD would cure himself while I rested, then I'd take over when he was low on MP. By the time we had the Ahtu to what would be low orange to high red, we both were low on MP and the PLD was getting fudged up. So I told him to 2 Hour it. Invincible he was for a bit, which gave me time to pop off Benediction. That was good till the damn tree Criticalled the PLD. Knocked him all the way mid-orange. Funny part was he never lost hate with my Benediction. So I started resting hoping for the best to be able to pop off a Cure 4, that didn't happen. Cause I saw the PLD in high red by the time I had enough MP to cast a cure spell. I stood my butt up and cast a Cure 3 just in time to raise his HP to orange, when the tree hit him into low red. Then the PLD used Seraph Blade at barely 100% TP. Killed the ****. So now the PLD is 10K richer and I'm 20K richer (monument and key). Gonna go back tonight to do it again for the PLD to get a key. The really messed up part was (other than near death for PLD) was that I only got 88 EXP and the PLD got 90 for this messed up NM.

Yeah, most quests require fame
# Jun 09 2004 at 9:39 PM Rating: Good
Always people ask about fame.

In my experience of having completed almost 200 original quests all over Vanadiel, it is only the really early lvl reward quests that dont require fame. There may be exceptions but Im racking my brain and i cant think of any. Now, note please that I did say reward quests. Yeah there are other types of quests that dont require fame like the af ones.

I wish I could post this on every quest page... I can understand people asking How much fame ... but asking "do you need fame" for a quest worth 10K ... YES of course you do.

Soloed Ahtu LV58 Red Mage Full AF Except Warlock's Chappeau.

Spells Used:

Self: Enfire, Blaze Spikes, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Haste, Protect III, Shell III, Barstone, Regen, and of course Refresh.

Ahtu: Paralyze, Slow, Blind, and Sleep II.

All spells kept refreshed when worn off with the exception of Sleep II.

Fought him until 50% health when I had 140/610MP remaining. Used Sleep II, Refreshed my Stoneskin, Blink, and Phalanx, used Convert and self healed. Refreshed Enfire, Blaze Spikes, and the Ahtu's Paralyze, Blind, and Slow. Refreshed my Haste.

Note: Did NOT use any offensive spells on the Ahtu that gradually reduces HP. (With these spells Sleep based spells will NOT stick.)

Received 72 EXP and the Engraved Key.

FYI: You don't have to be level 50 to get this quest. I got this quest at about level 32 so probably you need a lot of San d'Orian fame (which I have). Just a small note, not that I intend doing it anytime soon ^_^

Just killed 2 Athus for me and a friend, 1st was very easy, 2nd quite harder, so i guess it's not always same lvl NM.

Managed to solo it as PLD60, but on the 2nd try had to use 2hr and got pretty low with no mp.

Spawn was exactly 2:30 hours to the minute
BE SMART

Be smart people... this is not a quest you do without thinking... read this thread which also contains the following :

Quote:

1) Enter Eldieme from Battalia via the southern entrance. This entrance is on the southern peninsula-looking area near Jeuno, south of the huge backbone wall thing.

2) Look on your map. The area you're in has four big rooms in a cross pattern, connected by several corridors. You need to make your way to the southern big room. This may involve fiddling with switches, which are found by going into any of the big rooms and then travelling "inwards" (i.e. if you're in the eastern room, take the west exit, you'll see a gravestone and then the lever). I don't know exactly how the levers work, but I do know that they're how you change which doors in the area are open or closed. Keep tinkering until you can get to the southern big room.

3) Drop through the middle grave in the large room. MAKE SURE IT IS THE MIDDLE GRAVE.

4) After landing, continue on your merry way. After moving maybe twenty feet, the map changes, and you can see an exit to Battalia to your southeast. Take that exit.

5) Congratulations, you're on the island. Watch out for a NM named Ahtu that might be waltzing around just outside the tunnel.

6) The Stone Monument is to your right as you exit the tunnel, about a hundred feet. Follow the rock wall.

7) Warp back, either with a spell, with a scroll, or Warrior-Style.

Yes that is right... I am saying if you stop at Selbina before hunting Ahtu for your 10,000 gil key and get a piece of clay you can trade the clay to a monument just a few feet away and get ANOTHER TEN THOUSAND GIL... so be smart... get your Selbina clay first

I am level 38 rdm/blm got the keyy--and then was told about the quest---went to get quest from the guy and he wont give me the quest---what now?? I have fame---how high does it have to be though?
mission level?
# Feb 29 2004 at 10:42 AM Rating: Decent
I got this quest at 22 but the min level to complete is 50? Seems like the min level needs to have two numbers? One number for level needed to get the quest and the other for level needed to complete the mission.

Is the engraved key an EX item, a "key item", or can you buy it at the AH?

RE: how do you get to the island ?
# Jan 16 2004 at 9:44 PM Rating: Default
If you look at the Eldieme map, you want to go to the south room, and drop through the center grave. This will likely require some manipulation of the doors/levers, so bring people able to help with that. However once you are in the south room you can also play with the levers to let the rest of the group in.

Drop down there and follow the path on the map to batallia. Ahtu will aggro, does not see through sneak though. Was a complete pushover to duo at 55 with pal and whm combination.

Er meaning he will aggro just means that he is aggressive. You do have some safe room when you zone in. :p

Incidentally if you are doing the batallia monument quest at the same time, it's off to the right as you zone in.

yeah, you need fame for just about all of the reward quests past the ones worth like 200 gil.

I did this quest lastnight with a level 72 and a level 62. The person above who said Ahtu is hard is not joking. Hes an NM Treant and his leaf spin did 458hp damage to me at level 31 in full centurion scale armor. I had 9hp left after that attack, and about 15 seconds later he did it again, i got extremely lucky and evaded it.

Got my key though.

Good luck.
