Hi guys, new to the these BCNM stuff, so plz give me some guide. For this BCNM alone, when it say cap 20, does it mean i can only do it at lvl 20 or does it mean i can do the quest even 20+, but i will be capped at 20 just like the Eco-War quests?

BST, SMN, NIN
# Mar 12 2005 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
Party Setup:

BST/WHM
SMN/WHM<---- Me
NIN/WAR

1/2 so far and we are getting ready to try a third. First time went well but we couldn't kill anything fast enough. I ended up dead first with the bst not to far behind me. NIN two-houred. We did this without SMN and BST two hour.

Second time me and BST both used two hour and the fight about 3 minutes total. Didn't get the record because the bst had to temp log because his charm would not wear off >.<

Crate:
500 Gil
1 x Red Rock
1 x Scroll of Invisible
1 x Platoon Dagger
1 x Bat fang
Getting nothing but **** in a BCNM? Priceless.

We are getting ready to attempt the second strategy we used, but without two hours to see how it goes. If all ends well, I will let everyone know.
------------------------------------------------
Third Fight

Strategy from the second fight worked perfect, even without two hours. Here is what we did:

BST charms Furies on the right and proceeds to attack the NM bat. NIN vokes the NM bat and blink tanks.

SMN uses Ramuh on the Furies on the left and solo's using hi-potions and hi-ether(to be safe I used 1 hi-ether but with me being a taru SMN I still had plenty of MP and probably didn't need it). The hi-potions are needed because while you can be far enough away to resummon Ramuh with no trouble, they will hit you once or twice before Ramuh can get hate back. I only had to resummon once though before the NM was dead and then everyone focused on the uncharmed Furies.

After one Furies is gone that only leaves the charmed Furies. We all healed a bit before taking out the last Furies while the BST recharmed twice, just to be safe. Battle took 9 minutes but there was never really a threat of death. No records will be broken with this strategy, but winning is important.

Crate #2:
500 Gil
1 x Bat wing
1 x Bat fang
1 x Scroll of Invisible
1 x Platoon Pole
1 x Black rock
Getting even more ****? Priceless

IMPORTANT
Our BST had +12 CHR with food, without Monster Signa. He never missed a charm, not one. Never. However, they do become uncharmed frequently. This is where our strategy was flawed the first time. Instead of the NIN tanking the NM, we let the BST solo it with the Furies and once they were uncharmed, both were hitting the BST. With me having to throw some cures the BST's way, hate was every where. So with the minor adjustment of the NIN tanking the NM, everything goes fine.

Well, I've just finished another successful run on this. Same setup, the only mishap was the Paladin's macros lagged on him, and he died... :( He was going to potion, then Invincible whilst we finished things off, but sadly the game halted on him and he was killed. But, the other SMN and I managed to fire off our last BloodPacts and finish it. Drops were awful, although I am not sure if this has been mentioned in the threads but the White Rock is also a drop as we got that, plus a Platoon Axe and wings and fangs. Tomorrow, by the law of averages, we are owed an Astral Ring! So in sum, this tactic works well. SMN x2 and one tank although I think anyone but PLD would struggle, as he does have to use a lot of MP for healing himself. Colo-Colo died quickly this time, it was one of the two Furies who killed the PLD :( Anyway, I'll probably post again after the next fight. Just as a side note, we completed it in 2 min 57 secs (First effort 3 mins 20 secs) and the record here on Fairy is 2 mins 50 secs. 3 SMN could really clean this up! :)

I've just finished my attempt at this one. This is only the second or third BCNM I have ever attempted, so I am by no means a master. The setup was:

SMN/WHM <me>
PLD/WAR
SMN/WHM

We were about ready, so as we were waiting outside the second SMN accidentally hit the wrong macro and used his (only) Yagudo Drink... so we stormed in! Luckily I feel I kept calm, and I had briefed the party on what I thought was a good plan. I had Ramuh but our other SMN only had Carbuncle, but I thought we could swing it. The PLD was there to keep hate and not much else in terms of damage.

So we went in, Paladin ran in and provoked, I summoned Ramuh. Luckily our Paladin is good, and he kept all the bats together. Ramuh came out, Judgement Bolt'd the bats for 300+ each (on Lightsday) and they promptly killed him. All the bats were around or below 50% after this, so out other SMN used Searing Light which took them down to almost dead. At this point one of the bats decided to attack me, so I had to kite him for a little while and ended up down to about 70 HP... uncomfortable, but not desperate. The PLD kept himself healed, whilst the BloodPact ticked down... then Judgement Bolt number 2, the two furies died and Colo-Colo only had a little bit of health. I glugged a potion just in case, and the other SMN unfortunately missed with Searing Light... the PLD fired off invincible, gave him a smack with his sword, and that was it. BCNM won, fairly easy despite the hiccup at the start with the Yagudo drink... and NO BST! You don't need a BST to do this, and from what I have read this landing a charm sounds error-prone... I'm not going to say my method is best, but it worked well, it was fairly controlled, and it works with the people I know. Thunder Spirit and Lance popped up, so thats 300,000 in the bag from one round. :) Well done my BCNM crew! :)

Our LS decided to do it together, so i leveled up BST and my friends leveled up BST and RNG, 4th person SMN. We alternated between RNG and SUM for the 4th player, it was considerably easier with SMN but the RNG still had to use his orbs -.-
We agreed whoevers orb it is gets the drops, and the only decent one we had was one with 2 lances, which went to the RNG......he had got himself killed at the beginning of the fight and the BSTs did everything to -.-
On my orb we screwed up and lost, my 2nd orb i got a bat fang(500g maybe?) a platoon edge(8-9k max) a white stone(ooh biggy there, 3k), and a bat wing(300g i think, havent checked) XD
All i can say is the ranger better be giving us some money when his **** sells....all the other BST got of merit was one thunder pact...and SMN got **** too.....havent seen an astral yet in 4 wins....doing it more today though so who knows.
yup easy

OK, I have run this BCNM about 50 times now total, and have received all of the mentioned drops, and can confirm them all. The most recent runs were with 2 guys who I have made most of the attempts with, and we went 12 for 12, won all of them. The big money drops were 2 astral rings, 3 thunder spirit pacts, and 3 platoon lances. Probably one or two each of the other misc drops mentioned as well. I figured I could share what I know about this BCNM...

As far as PT setup...

During my last trip, I saw MANY different PT setups ATTEMPT this BCNM, but the ONLY one PT setup won it, and that was the standard BST BST WHM setup (My PT setup). Is it possible for other PT setups to win? Sure it is! Would I waste my hard earned seals on any other PT setup? NO WAY! We saw 2 SMN and a BST attempt it twice, lost both times. MANY all melee partys tried (You name the combo, tried it) and they lost every time. I 'm not saying it is EASY for BST BST WHM, we saw groups like that lose many times as well! But your odds are much better for sure. There was one run last night where charm failed the first 10 times or so for each BST in my PT, and I was down to 6 hp at one time (I was the WHM) but we hung in there and finally beat it without using any 2 hours. The ONLY groups other than ours that we saw win this BCNM was a few other BST BST WHM teams. This is NOT an easy BCNM like most people seem to want to make you think. It SEEMS easy once you have done it a few times, but even with the best gear, and all the preperation in the world, you still may lose! I suggest taking an orb for each person and doing 3 runs in a row. Odds are you will not get good drops most of the time, so running it 3 times (and winning) means you will have about a 90% chance of getting one or two 100k + items.

Suggestions:

Have your BST max their CHR. I see too many groups trying this bcnm without hope rings, one without a nobles ribbon even. These items are not that expensive. Farm till you can afford them. Seals are too hard to come by to waste them on failed runs. Can you win without them? Probably... Will you win 12 out of 12 like we did? HIGHLY doubt it :)

Use food/drinks! BST should use chr boosting food and whm should use either rolanberry pie for mp boost or boiled/steamed crab for defense boost. The BST in my party both had monster signa so they used pies to boost mp, but before they had signa, they used chr boosting foods. I also suggest the whm take 2 melon juices per fight. Pop one as soon as you cast your first cure and the second when you notice the first has run out. Hi-Potions are a good idea also on your first few runs in case mistakes happen or things get hairy. They are expensive, but worth it. (We no onger use them, but did at first) If you win, even the worst drops will likely cover your food/drink/medicine expenses.

Strategy:

When you enter the bcnm, WHM should protectra/shellra the group and use Blink, all 3 should cast aquaveil, then all rest till mp is full. Don't move forward till fully buffed and mp is full! Time likely wont be an issue, so don't sweat it.

Once ready, have a BST go right and the other go left and the WHM get in the middle of the battlefield and start curing. BSTs charm the furies and send them after Colo-Colo. Once both the furies are fighting Colo-Colo, BSTs should attack Colo-Colo FULL FORCE! if WHM isnt too busy spamming cures, he should even start swinging. (Personally I use a Holy Pole +1 and start whacking away most of the time, the objective here is to kill Colo Colo ASAP. Once she is down, the fight becomes much easier). Colo Colo will spam Poisonga. I suggest letting her, and dont bother using Poisana till Colo is dead and it's time to rest. Once COlo-Colo is dead, send the furies on each other. If you find you have both furies charmed and Colo is dead, take advantage of this and rest as LONG as you can. You will need that MP and HP for the final stretch! From here it's simple, turn the furies on each other and all join in to beat down the Furies that arent fighting for you. The Furies use the dreaded Jet Stream and Drain like it is going out of style, and if you can keep them fighting each other, they will use all these special attacks on each other which helps immensely! WHM should ALWAYS keep a finger on the Cure 2 macro in case a Jet stream lands on one of your PT members, it hits HARD as you probably already know! :)

If you get the furies down to a sliver of health, Banishga is your friend if you have the MP for it. It consistently hits in the 70 hp range and has been the final blow in many of my runs... Ive tried the elemental nukes but havent had much success with them.

That about covers it. NO BCNM is a cakewalk, especially the first few times, but this one does become easier after you have been through it a few times. Good luck, go make your money!

It seems like once someone fails they immediately trash that party setup and what not. There's so many different ways to do this BCNM that you don't require any certain job. I've done it with 2 BST.... Rdm and 2 BST.... A Mnk, Whm, and BST....2 BST and PLD.... I mean the list goes on. Sometimes it doesn't work bc its a bad run or maybe someone isn't familiar with what they are doing. Please don't be so quick to trash set ups and jobs when you lose, all it does is make all these other ppl who don't know any better think the same way and in the end makes its hard for other jobs to get anything done.

So far me and a friend have done nothing but duo this like crazy. We have gotten 2 astral rings (480K) and thunder pact (90k), and platoon Lance which is 100-150k. We are on Leviathan and if anyone needs some help doing it, we would be glad to help. I don't mind helping if your wanting to do it for a certain item. I'll be glad to help for just a small cut of it. For example if your after Thunder Pact and we get it you can have it, long as I get a pick of what else drops or I get a small profit. Small as in like 10-20k or something, just enough to buy the food and potions that I usually bring to make sure we don't lose.

Im gonna try to get anohter one and see if im luck. Couldnt have done it without Fury. I suggest if your on Leviathan to give Fury a /tell and ask for his help. They take it down with no problem.

p.s. Thanks again Fury :):):)

Glad you got your ring Lord. To those who read this, my partner and I are beginning to get alot of tells about doing this, which is a good thing, but we use our 2hrs so nothing goes wrong. Therefore, we've had to make a schedule as to when we can do it for others and still have time to do things ourselves. If your wanting help with this, just /tell me or Agarwaen and let us know when a good time is for you. We will plan it out and be glad to help you. So far I think we've done this for 5 or 6 ppl, and most of them want to do it again and again. We've done it twice tonite and going to do it again in about an hour. Also if we do this for you, whether you get a ring or not please leave some feedback or rate the post up. :)

P.S. Send tells to Furychaos or Agarwaen, either one of us is ok.

When i did this for the first time last night I couldnt beleiev how easy its was - party set-up

BST/ninja
Drg/whm
Pal/war <---me

how it went, now im elvaan so my mp pool was low but i did have 2 astral rings on aelots mitts, mage sandels energy earrings+1 and i was drinking yag drinks my Mp rarely at any point dropped below 80

so the plan went
Bst goes in and charms a furries this furrie attacks the other furrie. now there out of the picture.
I voke and tank cola-cola, i couldnt beleive how fast he went down, the dragoon was doing some sweet damage.
Then we rested while one of the furries died (the charmed one died first) then it took 2 hits to kill the final one.

we did 3 runs, all sucessfull, just a shame we didnt get astrals on any of them but we did get a couple of thunder pacts which was nice..

btw, donot go in as a bst thinking that charming will be a breeze, my partners has the best possible gear (monster signa etc..) for bst and was eating flint caviar, his +charisma was huge.
The BST does not have to 2hr on this but it makes it considerably easier...

imo taking a whm over a paladin would be a waste with this, with a paladin you get the best tank so damage is cosiderably reduced and u can easily keep up with healing urself with a yag drink restoring ur MP and you melee which is certainly an added bonus

I thought if entering with 3 SMNs u could make it as well, not sure thought. But letting them all use Ramuh and Judgment bolt should take care of them, shouldn't it? Even then when they aren't dead u can use another Judgement Bolt.
RE: SMN
# Mar 02 2005 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
I wouldn't use Ramuh unless it was lightning day. I've done this alot with 2 SMNs instead of the BST combo. They've always used Ifirit or Garuda. The only problem is that sometimes the bats will get too far apart and your attack may miss. If theres more then one on a SMN then he is toast fast. But 3 SMNs entering this would smoke it in record breaking time. If you didn't 2hr, you may still be able to do it with 3 SMN but I know the bats can chew an avatar up really fast. Best advice I can give is use your 2hr and you won't have any problems at all, or do some trial and error and see if you can do it w/o 2hr, but then your wasting seals and exp if you lose.

But why would you use Ifrit, I checked and the weakness of those bats are Garuda and Ramuh. Thanks for your info btw :).

They only used Ifirit on fire day. I think it's better to just go with the avatar for that day. IMO I think Garuda is the best to use anytime.
Sooooo easy.
# Mar 02 2005 at 10:29 AM Rating: Decent
This has got to be the easiest way to do it, unless you have 3 SMN. Me and a friend duo this like mad. Go in put up protect, eat food, then rest. Once full each pick a Fury. Once charm sticks, both BST 2hr and kill Colo. Once he is dead, whoever's bat has the most HP's does a temp log. The BST then sends his charmed bats to kill die to the other one. The other BST logs back in and you reinvite him to party. Once the charmed bat dies, you smoke the remaining one in 1 maybe 2 hits. Piece of cake and never even got hit.

Our drops were : Astral Ring, Thunder Pact, Sam sword, Green Rock, and Sneak. I know it takes your 2hr, but it's garanteed win with little to no effort. Plus I spend alot of time camping NM or lvling my low lvl jobs. So once we do this I go and lvl a low lvl job, while camping NM at the same time using my brothers PS2 and character. Hope this helps.

Edit: For those wondering about CHR or gear. I use 2 hope rings, noble ribbons, and bird whistle, along with Caviar. 24 CHR + 16 when fight begins. So a measly 40 CHR. I've only had charm fail one time. Either I'm just really lucky or my CHR is better than I think it is.

On saturday a bunch of BST and I a pld decided to try this out, and well the results are shocking. I will post EACH treasure box for the day as I wrote down what we got while I was in the pt. And I will also describe in detail the shortcomings and advantages we found while doing our BCNM20 Wings of Fury for a few hours and making me a very rich pld.

Our First attempts which where utterly fatal where done as Rdm/whm Bst/whm Bst/whm. The reason these attempts where fatal was noone had a voke and it was tough to take hate off of a PT member who was badly hurt. We only succed once because someone using their Two hour and their fury was the last one standing. This pt setup was Junk, and a waste of gil. You need hipotion and potions, also yagdrings for everyone and we spent roughly 12k on meds and food. Our treasure box was very poor too it resulted in the usual junk, Bat Wing, Bat Fang, blue Rock, Scroll of Sneak. Not a good take at all.

What we did find truelly interesting from that PT set up was the lack of control we had for the fight. Other than that it was a waste of time resources and just a complete failure. BUT it did make an Idea I have been working on for a really long time come to mind...The bats hit in a mid range so why not try a high def job in there with some def food.

Now for what makes my post special, the way to beat this BCNM all day long and get your astral rings (Yes Plural it is do able and quite an easy drop actually).

Now since the two bst's used their two hour I thought it best if I took PLD and we tried my idea. The only food or Meds you will need are Fish Kabobs. Do not bother with the chiefkabobs as it is too exspensive and we are trying to make some gil here.

We did this once before we had to break for the day and we beat the BCNM in 7 minutes without as so much as a near death. First let me not stroke my own ego but you need to be half way intelligent to do this. Saying this since we have 4 bsts and 2 pld doing this we did loose some due to utter stupidity and not understanding the fact that yes, you do need to voke a Fury OFF a bst when he is dieing. And DO NOT engage the mob means DO NOT fight it, do not run away from it so you take it out of charm range and get out of heal range, simply put Provoke the Fury and stand there.

How to do this flawlessly is simple and I will give you step by step instructions.

1) Before battle use your food, if it is a half hour food you can get in 3 fights on it preferred PLD food for fight is Fish mithkabobs.

2) Have the BST decide which fury they want to charm, the one on the left or the one on the right.

3) Enter the fight. Do not engage the mobs do not move. Drop your Buffs since if you do this before they are erased when you enter the BCNM. Yuor food effect stays and you are of course lowered to level 20, make sure you have proper gear on.

4) Move up as a whole have the BSTS attempt to Charm their respective Furys and the PLD provokes any missed charms. Furys hit pld for 13-19 dmg. IF both charms miss have the Other BST focus on healing the BST who did not have his fury Provoked away from him.

5) ReCharm any failed charms and repeat step 4.

6) Once all furys are charmed and fighting Colo Colo move away from the fight and heal. Colo Colo has an AoE, turbulance, which does a fair amount of damage and ended the other groups day because of stupidity.

7) Once in a while a fury breaks free from the charm have the BST recharm it, if the charm does not stick have the PLD provoke the fury and take his little beating until the bst can recharm it. Usually once both furys have been charmed once they are recharmed easily and are not a problem to control.

8) The waiting game has now begun and eventually a fury or colo colo will die. IF both Furys survived colo colo allow the one with less HP once it's charm expires to remain uncharmed and let the "tougher" one beat that one to death.

9) Eventually you are left with one fury and the amount of life remaining will very, normally it is 1/3. Once the charm expires and all parties are fully healed health and MP wise take this final fury on. Allow the PLD to tank the fight and the bsts may engage it as well.

10) Open armor crate and GJ ^^ All around.

My group for the day was 6/6 with the PLD, Bst, Bst set up. The other group who went with us was 2/6 but I feel bad for the bst's their pld was not a bright bulb.

As for what you get it depends. We did the your orb your loot approach which was good yet poor.
All treasure boxes I saw contained Bat Wing and Bat fang so they will not be listed

Treasure box 1 My Orb PLD
Astral Ring, Platoon Lance, Thunder Pact, Invisible, By far the best box you will see.

Treasure Box 2 BST 1 orb
Green Rock, Invisible, Sneak

Treasure Box 3 Bst 2 orb
Blue Rock, Gunromaru, Ganko

Treaure Box 4 Bst 1 orb
Red Rock, Invisble, Sneak, 1000 gil each member.

Treasure Box 5 my orb PLD
Astral Ring (My second), Gunramaru, Ganko, Sneak, Mithral Beast Coin

Treasure Box 6 Bst 2 orb
Blue Rock, Sneak, Invisible, Mithril Beast Coin

I hope this helps you out, and yes I was so lucky to get two astrals. I have been called a Liar that you can not get an Astral ring And a Thunder Pact in the same treasure box but it did happen. This all happened on Ramuh server and if you are on this server and a BST looking to do this bcnm I will tank your fight for you and I can bring along a friend as well. My reasons for this post are simple, I am trying to show people that an astral ring is a 1/3 drop from a fairly easy BCNM so hopefully everyone will run out and do this BCNM and the prices of items will drop. IF you need ingame help with this send me a tell ingame. My name ingame is Aedder as well on Ramuh. Happy hunting and best of luck to all of you on your BCNM Adeventure.

Rdm and 2 BST is just as good as Whm and 2 BST. We did it last night with a rdm and it was a piece of cake. There's no need for voke bc the BST don't need to fight. The Rdm healing will grab enough hate. And how well you charm is more of a chance of luck. Even with all the pimp CHR gear your still gonna fail, but you can go in there with the basics and charm right off the bat. So if your thinking of buying a signa or camping it bc you think its a must you really dont need it. Ya I'm sure it helps, but I've never used one and my friend has only used one 1 time and we have only lost once. We were completely unprepared and got a big head. We learned our lesson and are flawless now.

Yes, that's right. I solo'd this BCNM20 with my 20 Bst/Whm Taru. Not hard to do at all and I was really sucessful (up until my final moment with Greater bat with 50HP). Even though I didn't win, I would have had I packed one more Hi-Potion. Here's what I did in case anyone is interested.
Items to have:
3 Potions
2 Hi-potions (I took 1 and didn't manage to survive)
1 Ether or 1 Yagudo Drink
1 Chamomile Tea

Equipment is really up to you. I have the standard Chr+ rings, neck, head. Battle Gloves to give me an edge on dodging. The rest is Def+ and Evasion+ (bone gear +1 is good for this battle)

[Good idea to set macros for everything you'll be doing. Items, charming, casting, set your Macros!]

Go in, use your Tea. (It lasts 3 hrs so you have some crazy time if you want to attempt this again.) Cast Protect on self. Use Yag drink if you have. Target the Furies on the right and run along the outside wall spamming the hell out of your charm macro. Note: I've never had a failed charm, but I can imagine things would get ugly if it did. Just run around the edge if it does fail and spam it again. Once you have the furies, Assault them on the Furies.

Use Bst 2hr Familiar! Now your bats will not become uncharmed and are a bit tougher than the others. The Greater will be still after you. Quickly target it and have your Bats Assault it. It may take a try or two for you to get them to grab the greater Bats hate. Just keep your cool and cure only when absolutely necissary!

If done right, your bats will be fighting the other furies and the greater bat in one big cluster of flying guano mayhem. Go to the farthest edge away from the ensuing battle. Cure up! But be sure you do not see the red dots of the bats on your radar. Keeping them off radar will prevent you from getting any hate when curing up. Poisona is not needed. If you get poisoned, let it take its course. It usually never lasts too long to impact you greatly.

Eventually your pet will die, and the remaining Furies and Greater will come after you. Target the Furies and charm them. Assault them on the Greater bat. STAND BACK and cure up! Use your Ether if you brought or need. Your bats will be over half life and whack on the big bat for a while before becoming uncharmed. Simply charm again and repeat.

When the last of the furies is down to 2/5 HP, step up and start melee. Keep an eye out on your bats for they may become uncharmed before they die off. The idea is to get the most out of them but have the Greater bat kill them for you. After they have fallen, keep wacking. The big bat is fast and very agile. I hit 1 out of every 4 swings, but usually landed a blow for 20+ DMG. This is where you start your potion consumption. When in yellow, its safe to use Potions.
When in red, chug a Hi-Potion and keep swinging.
Just outlast him, keep your HP high, use a weapon skill if you have a chance (runs high risk of missing) and you got it made!

Although I didn't win my first attempt, I will win this second try. Great drops from this! Just imagine getting an Astral ring all to yourself! :) Seraph: Astral ring goes for 600-700k. That's some sweet money for a little battle. Good luck!

Just suceeded in winning! 1 out of our two attempts. Party was:
Bst/Whm (me)
Nin/War
Smn/Whm

My mistake the first time was I kept the lesser bats next to our tank and healer. When they became uncharmed they unleashed a hellacious AoE attack.
Note: The second and last fight I used my 2hr and let the uncharmed kill off my pet. I went over to help the tank kill the greater bat as it died as soon as my pet did. It was a matter of cleaning up the rest of the lesser.
Another note: No damn Astral Ring! BAH! Crappy drops this time, but it's certainly work trying again! :)

Heh, but it was fun. I recorded the entire 6 min ordeal and uploaded it to my website once I compressed it. I used windows media player 9 video codec and microsoft V2 audio codec... so as long as you have windows media player 9 or better, you should have no problem playing the video. Please do not watch the video from the url, it may not buffer correctly and will effect my server's overall performance. Please right click and save this file to your desktop or my documents or any other temporary location you have room for it.

File Size: ~<100 megs.
Runtime: 6 min and 00 seconds
Soundtrack: None.
Video codec: Windows Media Player 9
Audio codec: Microsoft Audio V2

3 SMN beat this BCNM and, once again, broke time record... 1 min. 33 seconds to get an Astral Ring... won't go complain.

Good work to me (Tripslayer), Tripdragon and Oremor! ^_^
