Description

"The Rhinostery has developed a new "mini" tuning fork of earth. Ringing it upon the protocrystal in Quicksand Caves will open the path to a one-on-one battle with the beast that awaits inside. However, only summoners are allowed to take up this challenge."

Upon speaking with Ferrol (standing next to Juroro, who gives the Trial by Earth quest), he will explain about the Mini Tuning Fork of Earth and give you one. Beware, this item is not a Key Item like the regular Tuning Forks. This is a Rare/Exclusive item that needs to go in your inventory.

When you are a level 20+ Summoner (and ready to go: meaning get your food/juice/meds and gear ready!), return to Ferrol and trade him the Mini Tuning Fork of Earth. (Do not worry: he does not keep the fork.) The following conversation will occur:

Ferrol: Are you and Carbuncle ready to fight the prime avatar as a level 20 summoner? Ferrol: Also, regardless of whether you defeat the avatar or not, you will be unable to re-enter the protocrystal again for a number of days. Ferrol: Ma'am, our adventurer has completed her preparations and requests a warp. Juroro: ... Alacazimzam-scooby-dooby... ... Juroro: Sha-mona!

At this point, Juroro will warp you to the Cloister of Tremors. (Don't worry, there are no mobs to worry about here.) The protocrystal stands in front of you. You must TRADE the Mini Tuning Fork of Earth to the protocrystal. (WARNING: If you do not trade the fork and instead just select the protocrystal, you will enter the regular level 60+ party avatar battle if you have the regular tuning fork!)

When you enter the battlefield, it will give you the rules: Only (Your Name) can enter the battlefield. The time limit for the battle is 15 minutes.

You'll then see the cut-scene of Titan being awakened (the same cutscene that is shown in the regular avatar battles). Afterwards, you must run up the cool-looking staircase thing to where Titan awaits. At the bottom, however, it is safe to do preparations (cast magic, use items, rest).

During this battle, ONLY Carbuncle can be summoned. (So no, you cannot use something like.. say.. Air Spirit.)

The reward is the ability to summon Titan. (The same Titan you get from doing the other quest for the avatar.) You can attempt this as a summoner less than level 20, although it would be pointless. The recommended level (and level cap) is 20. You do not lose exp when you die, unlike the regular avatar battles.

what do you think about subbing nin and dual weilding hermit's wands? + Heko obi +1 = very low spell interruption rate. this setup would never be used in pt, just for avatar battle, because you use medicine for hp/mp
Big gay all wins

So far for the level 20 Avatar battles I have faced this guy twice, Garuda about five times and Ramuh twice. Titan is way easier then Garuda or Ramuh since there are no shadows or paralyze to worry about, and even tho he hits hard, he hits slow.

what I did was used a boiled crab before entering.
Summoned carby halfway up the sloop. Told carby to attack (since Titan's first move is allway a Bind Blood Pact Type) went in next to carby. Astral Flow to Searing light.

Ran back to half way point of sloop, waited for carby to die. Resummoned and hit Searing Light macro repeatibly for 5 seconds went to Titan's Spawn spot and basically did the same apart from having to hit the Searing Light macro for like 25 seconds.

Materials Used
1 x Boiled Crab
1 x Yagudo Drink
2 x Ether

Entered on Windsday at about 10:00. I actually got the record on Remora at something like 3 minutes 43 seconds to what someone said before I told them I got the Record, Luck me as I got him before the servers were about to get patched (she was only 2 hours out) but easy come... easy go... I guess my record probably overwriten now.. ^^;; >.<.

So far this is the only avatar I have beaten outta the 3 I tried but he is way the easiest on the otherhand. no one is going to straight away just win all the avatars. Since he is in bastok he is good practice either way.

Okay, there's no doubt about it... these fights are UNBELIEVABLY annoying. Don't worry though you WILL eventually get throught them, and the reward is worth the effort =)

Okay so after getting my butt kicked numerous times when I first started out, I've developped what has become an almost 100% successful method for these battles.

Now it costs a lot (depending on your server, for me this method can cost from 15k to 22k PER fight on Asura).
Here's what you need:

Potion X 5
Hi-Potion X 2
Ether X 5
Yagudo Drink X 3
Selbina Milk X 12 (just a clump of em will last for a loong time, and they're cheap too, only about 200G for 12)

Okay so very simple strategy. Get your hand on a Hermit's Wand and ANY other equipment that lowers spell interuption rates (like Heko Obi +1 for example), the rest of your equipment try to find things that raise your EVAsion stats, otherwise anything with the highest defense.

Now, when you enter the battlefield IMMEDIATELY cast Protect and Aquaveil (if using a SMN/WHM, I haven't tried any other combo), or you can try to get a Protect II or III from some nice player before entering the battle. Now having macros set for these fights helps a lot (I will post my macro list right after this).

Run up the ramp until you can see the avatar in the distance and cast Carbuncle right away. Use a Yagudo Drink RIGHT AWAY after summoning (it restores MP).

Use assault of the avatar where you summoned Carby (MAKE SURE that the avatar if busy with Carbuncle before moving) now run to the top and hide beside the crystal. Try to run far enough away so you no longer target the avatar and you can no longer see Carbuncle's health, only his name, you know then you are at a safe distance.
Now that you have a chance, use the Selbina Milk (it gradually restores HP). Be very alert during these battles, and restore anything that wears off if you feel you are safe to do so.

After a minute or so Carbuncle will be defeated by the avatar. DO NOT PANIC, this will happen MANY times during the fight, so get used to it. When you see Carbuncles name dissapear from the bottom of the screen summon him again RIGHT AWAY, DO NOT WASTE TIME. Once he pops out again, mash the Assault macro, and once the avatar has targeted Carby again, run back to the place you summoned Carby for the first time (a lot of people say to run back down to where you enetered the battlefield, personally I found this a waste of time, and it actually caused me MORE difficulty, so just do what you feel comfortable with).

Keep letting Carby get wooped until you either:

A) Have the avatar's health down to about 3/4's
OR
B) Have less that 70 MP remaining.

Now's when you break out the 2-Hour.
Once Carbuncle has been freshly summoned, let the avatar come close to you and use Astral Flow, it WILL come after you, but don't worry. Now hit the Searing Light macro, and WAIT until Carby hit it before running away, otherwise you'll completely miss the target. This is EXTREMELY important!!! USE at LEAST 2 or 3 ethers IMMEDIATELY!!! Otherwise Carbuncle will dissapear due to lack of MP, and you will most likely DIE! After using the Ethers run to a safe spot (as mentioned before by viewing only Carby's name nd the bottom) and use potions as needed (Hi-potions if in the yellow and regular potions if you are below 75%HP).

Make sure you have at least 40MP remaining and continue the "Carby dies, you re-summon" method until you can re-use Searing Light. Follow the same directons as before, stay CLOSE to the avatar and wait for Carby to use it.

Using this method, the second Searing Light should do the avatar in. If for some reason it doesn't, then follow the same directions as before, and pray you have enough time to get another Searing Light in before the 2-Hour wears off.

And there you have it! This method has worked for me 90% of the time. Why 90%? Because I once continued hitting the wrong macro thinking there was some glitch with the game rather than using Searing Light, which lead my 2-hour to expire and Shiva to kick my bum. Other than that extremely stupid mishap, I've won every other time.

Don't worry you CAN do it! It just takes practice, it's very rare that anyone can get an avatar on their first try. Good luck!

Here's the Macro list I promised:

1. Carby (/ma "Carbuncle" <me>)
2. Astral Flow (/ja "Astral Flow" <me>)
3. Searing Light (/pet "Searing Light" <bt>
4. Potion (/item "Potion" <me>)
5. Hi-potion (/item "Hipotion" <me>)
6. Ether (/item "Ether" <me>)
7. Milk (/item "Selbina Milk" <me>)
8. Assault (/pet "Assault" <bt>)

Now in case you're wondering <bt> isn't a typo... it target the closest mob, so you don't have to target the avatar all the time.

One thing I forgot to mention before...
Sometimes Carby dies too quickly, and you cannot summon him again from a safe distance. The avatar WILL come after you and WILL interupt your summoning. Here's where the Hermit's Wand and the Heko Obi+ 1 come in handy, as well as any equipment that raises evasion (like Scentless armlets or Compound Eye Circlet). Raising your SMN Magic skill will also help with this situation, you'll want to try to get it to at least 40 before attempting these battles, it doesn't take too long, and it helps quite a bit.

Don't worry, it'll happen at one point with at least one of the avatars you fight. Don't lose it, just keep trying to summon and eventually (hopefully) Carby will pop out.

I wish you the best, any questions feel free to contact me at lion_heart3050@pol.com or just send a message online to Svalitz (Asura server)

Good luck!

btw, <bt> isn't the closest mob. It stands for battle target and targets the closest mob that is claimed by you or your party.
Elvaans CAN do it
# Apr 01 2005 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
So I decided to give Titan a try, seeing as it was the last few hours of windsday and I thought "What the hell." Stupid Auction House doesn't have any Ethers all they have are Hi-Ethers. So I got

3x Hi-Ether
3x Hi-Potion
3x Yagudo Drink

This is the best part though... this is all the equip I used

2x onyx earrings
2x ermites ring (it was all I had)
1x hermit's wand

so I was practically naked. Oh and this is good to...

Summoning skill:
36

So with all this against me, (Not to mention the fact that I'm Elvaan) I go after Titan. it is about 20:00 on Windsday so I'm thinking, plenty of time. I go into the battlefield, and there is the big fattie in the G-String.

I run half way up, summon Carby, pop a YD, run the rest of the way, and Assault him. Instead of using Astral Flow right away, I let Carby die one time first, then when Carby dies, I am far enough from the fattie that I can summon again no prob. I use Astral Flow and Searing light, and it takes about 1/3 off his life, with carby's beatings, he's down to about 3/5 life.

This part was scary. I had NO IDEA Hi-Ethers took that freaking long to work. I'd taken some hits so after the Hi-Ether worked (finally) I popped a couple potions too. After two more searing lights, and two more ethers Titan had a sliver of life left. Carby and I pounded into him.

Naked Elvaan + Level 36 Summoning Skill = Dead Fattie

Only thing I'm going to change for next time is I'm going to do whatever it takes to get regular ethers, Hi-Ethers SUCK.

So anyone out there trying this, just MAKE SURE you go on the correct day that is most important.

-Edit-
I now use Hi-Ethers exclusively. I take back my earlier sentiments about them. They give good MP and don't take THAT long to cast.

How to win
# Mar 15 2005 at 8:08 PM Rating: Decent
I used this tactic on Fenrir to beat Titan (as well as every other summon) with SMN20/WHM9
Supplies -
Carbuncle Mitts
Hermit's Wand (in case something messes up)
Saintly Ringx2
Opal Earring
Onyx Earring
Blood Stone
Solea
Slacks
San d'Orian Tunic
3 Ethers
1 hi potion
1 yagudo drink

*Run to where target is (in this case, titan), send Carbuncle to attack.
*Run down to the crystal and use a yagudo drink.
*Summon carbuncle when target is halfway down to you. (Earlier may make carbuncle run at him too soon.) Titan will get close right as carbuncle spawns and attacks.
*Use Astral Flow/Searing Light, run to the top where target spawned. If you are fighting Ramuh with this tacitc, make sure your not paralyzed
*Use an Ether if not at 40+ MP, Searing Light.
*Run down to the crystal, Ether, Searing Light.

This should have killed him, but in the case of fighting Leviathan he still had 2% hp, so just have carby melee him.

If you did this right, you should still have one potion, and one ether. The reason to get excess is for the "in case" which happens to some people.
This tactic worked on Ifrit, Ramuh, Shiva, Titan, Garuda, and Leviathan flawlessly.

I've read folks on this forum talking about how they used 2 or 3 SLs to kill Titan [I assume to beat the record]. While I didn't attempt to do it as fast as I could, I assumed that I could kill Titan with the two SL method. I couldn't.

Here's my advice to those of you who just want to summon titan and are not bent on beating the record. Only use SL when you're sure it'll kill him in one hit. I summoned carby until titan was down to nearly 1/4 of his health. I'm sure I didn't need to bring it down that far, but I was trying to be safe. I used one high potion [I'm elvaan], two high ethers, and four yagudo drinks [again, I'm elvaan].

I started to fight Titan at about 21:00 on lightsday. Since my fight went on for about 13+ minutes, I ran into darksday. And since I won half on darksday, it makes it even more the victory.

Again, if you just want to GET titan, go nice and slow, don't try to milk your two hour for all it's worth.

Wow i so screwed up, i didn't come here before i went to try to kill titan. Needless to say i didn't know to trade the mini-fork to the crystal so my lvl 20smn/10rdm went up against Titan Prime. O.o Can you say ouch! Anyways if ya'll have any suggestions for me such as what to bring or strategy please post! Thanks
For all you Taru's out there...
# Nov 15 2004 at 3:51 AM Rating: Decent
This post is hope for all you Tarus out there, especially the whm's like myself. This is the first avatar i have solo'd. Took me about 3 or 4 legitimate tries to win, and ill be honest, it wasn't easy. I went into the battle with 3 yagudo drinks, 3 hi-ethers, and 2 hi potions, Summoning magic at 45. Everyone says to cap this. I really don't even see what capping this does honestly. i get a different answer from each person i ask. I do however agree with the people who say it lessens the chance of your summon being interupted, which def. helps, but i am living proof that it doesnt need to be cappped. Alright, so, my strategy was this - first off i subbed whm - why? aquaveil. Summoned Carbuncle, assault, Yagudo drink. Keep resummoning Carby for the remainder of the Yag. drink to take as much off of Titan as possible. I took about 1/4 of his life away. When the Yag drink wore off, keep attacking with carby till mp gets to around 50, aquaveiling when necessary. At that point use a second Yag. drink, Astral Flow, Searing light, RUN. Your not going to be able to get very far unfortunatly, but asap, use a hi-ether, and pound the carby button till you can summon him. This part really sucks. Your more than likely gonna take multiple hits from Titan. This is where smn magic, aquaveil, hi potions, and some luck come into play. I was lucky enough to get Carby back out, barely i might add, and do a second Searing light, defeating Titan. I didn't cure the whole battle, thats what the hi potions are for, only cure if absolutely necesary. You could actually probably get away with subbing blm, but having aquaveil, i think, is helpful. If you lose, don't give up, learn from your mistakes, that's what i did. Well, hope this helps, good luck.
This was easy
# Nov 09 2004 at 5:10 PM Rating: Decent
i Just did this today and i read all these threads and thought this was gonna b hard....I was a lil low on cash and only affored 2 hi-ethers and Yag drink. B4 i went into battle i got a high lvl rdm to cast protectIII and shellIII titan did 8 dmg to me wen he hit me...

Right at the begging of fight i cast aqwavil on myself and use yag drink walk up a lil and cast carby attack tit use seering light 1/3 hp gone walk down path used high-ether waited 4 carby to die then recasted attacked titan used seering light once agin 2/3 titan hp gone went up to were he started used hi-ether carby died i recasted him used seering light killed him took 4min 20sec record was 3min 40sec so i was pretty close.

DONT WASTE MONEY ON THIS FIGHT BUY 2 HI-ETHERS AND A YAG DRINK AND FALLOW MY INSTRUCKTIONS U SHOULD WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Ethers
3 Hi-Potions
{Job}
smn/nin
{REASON}(dual weild) 2 Hermits wands 50% chance of getting carby back out if something goes wrong.
{Strategy}
enter battle feild and go a little past bend and use YD, then summon carby and make way to avatar stay out of aggro range and inch ur way to avatar while mashing assault macro. carby should go straight to him without u getting aggro. run back past the bend a lil bit... while waiting there mash ur carby macro til carby gets summoned after carby comes out wait for him to engage then run back behind crystal as far as u can go and mash carby macro. after he gets summoned wait for him to engage and run past bend a lil bit...use YD when it runs out and do this over and over til ur 2nd yagudo drink runs out {REASON} to wittle his life down so u can use 2 Searing lights instead of three. NOW his life should be at 5/6; when ur second yagudo drink runs out... wait for carby to die. when u summon him pop a yagudo drink and use astral flow right away {REASON} cause u get all hate right now....then when carby hits avatar he takes all hate in 1 to 2 hits. Now run up to avatar make sure ur 'close' hit searing light macro( you dont have to target avatar /pet "Searing Light" <bt> automatically tagets the "partys" mob)...bam carby has all hate take off running to other side of map {REASON} need time for Blood Pact to come back. carby dies u summon him... pop ether and follow carby to avatar Searing light should be ready... and hit searing light macro to kill him.

I've only lost to leviathan and ramuh all others took me 1 try with this method. Hope this works for all u smns out there!

Consider this, in the beginning there were no mini-fork battles, they didn't exist. The only way to get Avatars to begin with is with an alliance of very high lvl players. If you were to play Summoner straight up the normal Tuning Fork way, you would have only Carbuncle and whatever Elemental Spirits you have up to lvl 60+.

The other "Avatars" didn't even exist until Zilart Expansion, so:

Quote:

YES, if you plan to do the battles with Summoner alone, the easy way. NO, if you plan ahead and do the normal lvl 60+ battles with an alliance using normal Tuning Forks; which can possibly get you ALL the Avatars even Fenrir at lvl 1 Summoner.

lol i beat titan 5 min before the maintenance. I went in had no special buffs on just protect as 20SMN/10WHM with 60 summon skill(63 is cap). Brought 2 Hi-Eithers, 1 Yag drink, and 1 X-Potion. Strategy was go into battlefield run to elbow in the path to titan use yag drink, aqualviel, and summon carby. Ran up to top used astral flow then wacked Titan for 210 searing light. Ran back to the elbow used one Hi-Either waited for carby to die then resummoned to wack Titan for a second 210. Ran down to bottom used second Hi-Either and waited for carby death. It was too soon blood pact wasn't ready plus my summon macro messed up. I ran past Titan to the top used my X-Potion summoned carby manually and wacked Titan for a final 210. Clear time was 4min 26sec new record on Kujata.
Galkan SMN
# Sep 21 2004 at 6:31 AM Rating: Decent
Ok so if there is any other galkans out there that wanna be SMN and get the avatars via these battles heres some tips. Follow the Searing Light Strategy to the T. Also make sure your SMN is at lvl 20 with Summon Magic Skill maxed for that level it helps alot. but as far as items to take with you bring the following
2 Yagudo Drinks(might only need 1)
3 Ethers(definetly need all 3)
1 Boiled or Steamed Crab
1 Potion or the +1,2, or 3
and 1 Persikos Au Lait

If you take these items your almost guaranteed a win unless you go on the avatars good day.

also when you buff up use Aquaveil(need whm sub at 10) Bar*element* of whatever the avatar is. use the Persikos and the crab meat and then walk to the top of the stairs and cast Carbuncle then proceed with Searing light strategy from there thats what i did and i got Shiva and schooled here so bad she didnt know what hit her.

stupid *******, first time i got him down to like 3 hp left, but was stupid in that i drnnk my yag potion too early (i use a slightly different strategy) and he demolishes me with his 2 hr.

second time around both searing lights only do 104 damage, didnt have a chance (it was on lightsday).

third time around, one of the searing lights does 210, run back to the top to find that titan is right behind me and carb is chillin down by the crystal (he had to have been laughin at me or somethin), so i released him, and summoned him (i have no idea how i didnt get interrupted) used my second searing light, 210 damage, and titan uses his 2hr, didnt have a chance to use a hi potion after he had been beating me relentlessly at the top, so i got wiped.

so im gonna say $#)% titan, ill wait till i have the other avatars before i try him again, and when i actually have money to get more supplies

I have tried Titan about 10 times now and still don't have him yet. I am using Yagudo drinks, Hi Potions, Ethers, and Boiled Crab. When i get his HP's low, he uses his 2 hr and wipes the floor with me. I am only able to use Searing Light twice. The second time I use it, the damage is only in the 100's, not 210 like the first time. Can anyone please help me figure out what i'm doing wrong??

Do I really want this guy? I fought Ifrit on Watersday, and thought "I can get Titan tonight!" -- completely forgetting that I needed my two hour.

Well, I managed to kill Titan with Carbuncle just smacking him. I blew through 6 hi-potions and three hi-ethers however. That's almost kind of sad. (Considering Ifrit was taking only 101 damage from my Searing Lights)
