Description

First off, Ninja MUST be your main job before speaking to Romualdo. Speak to Romualdo and get a cutscene. Now head to the other cannonry room and speak with Ayame. She asks you to head to Palborough Mines and find a hidden Diary. The diary is named "Diary of mokunda". Mokundo is Alois's aide. You will find the diary by opening a chest inside the mines. Note that you do not need ninja as main anymore to get a key or open the chest (thieves can pick the lock and still get the key item). Once you have his diary head to Port Bastok and speak with Kagetora in F-6. After this cutscene go back to Ayame, then to Alois in Metalworks at J-8. The reward is a fukuro. Title granted is "Assassin Reject".

ok please someone help me with this. I have started this quest, it is in my quest log. I talked to Ramualdo and Ayame. I go to Pal mines and I have opened 4 chests. I have never gotten the key item. I also thought, since i got this quest so long ago maybe i turned it in and just forgot to complete it. But i talked to everyone involved in this quest, and I do not have the key item at all. Help me out!

Chances are Ayame gave you the moblin investigation quest first. In order to get the ****** quest, you will need to talk to her a second time.

This is a lengthly quest in that someone who was very bored at Square Enix put a lot of time and effort into the story line.

Put Ninja as Main(My Ninja was L27 at the time). Speak to Romualdo in the Cannonry behind the Predidents office building. Then talk to Ayame in the 2nd Cannonry. Now you must go to Pal Mines and farm a Chest Key just like for Kazham Airship pass. Someplace on the 3rd floor you will find the chest, it seems to pop next to the closed gates. Take the Key Item Diary you get to Kagetora. Kagetora will tell you to walk down below in the Tenshodo Warehouse. A cutscene involing the death of someone occurs. Go back and talk to Ayame(I cant remember, meaby Romualdo aswell) again, then go talk to Senator Alois(in the president building). Now you have your *******

****** is highest dmg output Katana until L30 Nikkarioe.

I agree it's not a lengthy quest compared to some that you get.

What I would say is that the backstory for this quest is one of the best I have seen so far. A great improvement on the usual "I need xx, yyy and zzz because my qqq broke".

I would recommend doing this quest - it was the first non-mission quest where I actually dropped everything else because I wanted to know what happened next.

That's.... not that lengthy at all. oO;; Have you done many quests? There are a great deal more lengthy than this; this is a cakewalk. And you make it sound like lots of story in a quest is a bad thing... I, for one, play the game specifically for quests like this; ones with story to them. :P

If you liked this quest for the storyline, you might wanna go try doing a new quest from Promathia from an NPC in South Sandoria named Sobane. Got a lot of storyish cutscenes, even though it gets a little confusing. Nice little bonus, the earring for that quest is worth roughly 30k too. =)

The only time consuming part of this quest is running around the mines looking for the chest. I got a key the first mob kill, but spent 30 mins looking for the chest.

Nonetheless, it is a pretty good story line.

There IS a level minimum... might want to update the requirement listing there...

Your nin MUST be level 20. I tried tonight at 19 nin with 100xp to 20... no go... I have hero fame in both bastok and norg, so fame wasn't the issue. Went out for a short bit and got my 100xp, came back as 20 NIN and lo and behold I now am an "Assassin Reject" (after the quest of course... LOL)
Interesting cutscenes!

fairly simple quest, as you can use a high level job for the key and chest part

i recommended doing this quest for the 20k katana and for the interesting cutscenes.

I did this quest a couple of days ago. I started it with my Ninja main (level 30). I finished talking to Ayame, then I ran to my Mog house and switched to Thief. My Thief is level 60. I ran to Palborough and found the chest, picked it, and got the key item! So, it is possible to pick the chests and get the key item if you are a Thief. After I picked the chest, went back to Bastok and finished up the quest. Pretty easy if you ask me.

I'm guessing there is a min NIN level requirement

This is not a Tenshodo fame based quest. I wasn't able to get it at 17, but I just got the quest at lvl 20 NIN. I've had Utsu scroll since my NIN was lvl 9.

I'm fairly positive there is a min requirement of 20 NIN for this. The katana can't be wielded until 28.

This is a tenshodo fame based quest.

To get Utesumi is a fairly high Tenshodo fame requirement.

I'm a hero in Bastok (rank 9) but I can't get Utesumi yet.

This is tenshodo fame based.

Well, i got high Tenshodo fame, or high enough to get Avatar and all quests in Norg.
Still can't get this 1.

Could it be some Tenshodo pre-requisite quest maybe? Only ones i have incomplete are the Brown Belt quest, and the Black Belt that follows it

As a follow-up, friend of mine also with all bastok quests done (hero) and all norg quests done AND brown belt quest done also couldn't get this quest.

Don't think it's fame related: either there is some quest that must be finished before (doubt it), it prolly starts with another npc that sends you to Ayame or Romualdo

It's a ninja use item, and involves Kagotora and Ayame. I'd say it's Tenshodo fame based.

Terrible guide.
Mijikai is right. Ramualdo is in the Southern Cannonry (K-9).
The reason you guys can't activate the quest is that your current main job needs to be Ninja when you speak to Ramualdo. I tried to talk to him so many times. Then I thought I would it would have something to do with not having Ninja job as main. It is for a Ninja weapon after all. It worked.
This is the only time your main job needs to be Ninja. You can complete the job w/ whatever job you like. I changed to Thief to pick the chest and finished the quest.

-Change main job to Ninja.
-Talk to Ramualdo in the Southern Cannonry (K-9)
-Talk to Ayame in the Northern Cannonry (K-7)
-Go to Palborough Mines and open a treasure chest to get the key item "Diary of xxx". I forget the exact name of the person. Chests are located on the 3rd floor.
-Talk to Kagetora in Warehouse #2 of Port Bastok
-Talk to Ayame again
-Talk to Alois who is in the room to the left in the President's Office.
You will get a long cutscene. Kinda boring, so I just kept pressing Enter. =P

YAY! You obtained a *********

Great weapon. I am currently dual weilding 2 of these. I bought another one from the AH.
