Summary

Help apprehend the criminal suspect that has been sighted on La Theine Plateau.

Walkthrough

This quest requires a lot of running around, so if you have a BLM with Warp I, it would be a good idea to make that your sub-job.

To start things off you need to go to G-8 in Southern San d'Oria and talk to Deraquien. This starts a cutscene.

Afterwards head to just outside of Ordelle's Caves and talk to Narvecaint (F-7), another cutscene will occur. Now head back to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Deraquien again. After that cutscene, head to Chateau d'Oraguille and talk to Halver for another cutscene. After this is done, head back to Deraquien to watch another cutscene.

From there go talk to Phillone. She can be found inside one of the houses, (D-7), on your left just past the Tanner's Guild. Now go talk to Deraquien again. From there go through King Ranperre's Tomb to Jugner Forest, where there will be a ???. Examine it at any time between 18:00-4:00 and it will spawn two mobs: Giollemitte B Feroun and Skeleton Esquire. It is strongly recommended that you bring along a few level 50+ people to help with this quest. After you kill the mobs examine the ??? again for another cutscene.

Now go back to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Phillone again for another cutscene. Then go back to Ordelle's Caves caves and talk to Narvecaint again. Now return to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Phillone one last time to finish up the quest. Your reward is a Medieval Collar.

I just completed this quest, and found it more of a fun time than worth anything.
Went as a pty. of 2, myself 53whm/blm, and a 49pld/war.
Treated it as if an xp party, but myself playing role of whm and nuker, pld. is a meat shield so his job needs no explaining.
Just before activating the ???, did all the norm buffing, stoneskin, blink, and aquaveil incase if needed can clean cast and teleport out.
PLD touched the ???, and pld spawned first, my pld voked, and I quickly hasted and regen2 on him, did all the debuffing, pld flashed to get hate back and skeleton spawned, I casted silence on him, as allready stated sleep don't stick, and i engaged the skeleton, saved my mana for regens and haste and continous silence on skeleton and debuffing of pld.
Everything going well under control, pld uses invincibilty, so my pld disengages and helps me with the skeleton, took a nice beating from pld. but i was still 3/4 mana for curing, 2hr. wore off and he went back to pld. and i finished off skeleton and started nuking pld with remaining mana, we using WS as soon as ready, well we both ran out of MP, but full health, and all that was needed to finish was a WS from each and dead.
I agree if you know ur job, this fight is not to bad.
Just wanted to share my story
Enjoy

I had easily solo'ed this as a 56 rdm/ 28 blm earlier tonight. I didn't read up on the quest before I went, so I didn't know what to expect. I popped the ??? and all of a sudden a shadow is rushing towards me! The only thing I can think about is the close call that I had helping a 45 whm with the Marchelute the previous day. However, Giollemitte B Feroun and his Skeleton Esquire are MUCH easier.

The only buffs I had going into the fight were refresh, pro III, and shell 2. I threw up haste, stoneskin, regen, enfire, blaze spikes shortly thereafter and then started my normal debuff routine of paralyze, slow, and blind (all of which stuck and lasted quite a while). I silenced the Skeleton and let it just keep going as my Sleep II were resisted. He was wiffing anyhow, not even hitting my stoneskin. I went to town on Gillemitte and at about 1/2 of his health I converted (all the magic being used to buff after not knowing what I was in for!) Dimensional Death did not once break my SS.
Finally!!!

Ok after having this quest for about 6 months I decided to finally finish it up. I had tried to check it out as a 21 rdm, you can imagine how well that went...now i'm all grown up as a 51rdm/drk, the fight wasn't too hard. I buffed full before starting, blink, SS, phalanx, BS, enfire, haste, etc., then talked to the ??? Tried to sleep the shadow, no luck, so i bound it instead, and started working on the skele. No real troubles, just kept binding the shadow and kiting the skele to safer spots, kept the skele silenced and all worked out well. Paralyze worked very well, and they didnt seem to be all that accurate of hitters, although the shadow did start using dimensional death a little over halfway thru, only about 120 dmg a pop, no biggie, GL with this quest and if anyone on Ramuh needs help with the fight look me up.

I just have to say that at this point, this is probably my favorite quest so far. And I've done a lot of quests. Even if the prize isn't that great, I recommend you give this a try just for the storyline. ^^

I did it at 36thf/18war with a 62whm/31blm helping me out - she soloed both of the monsters. Aside from them, the only hard part about this quest is the walking - it took me about an hour to complete it.
easy

wow that was much easier than i expected. i went as a DRK60/WHM30. normally i dont like undead stuff because you cant drain them. luckily i was reading up this fight and i was able to solo it very easily. i buffed up as i normally would soloing stuff (stoneskin and blink). then i casted sneak on myself. waited until 18:00, popped the nms then backed off to see what would aggro me. thankfully with sneak on, nothing aggroed and i was free to pull the main nm (the PLD shadow). i didnt even need blink on me because he kept missing anyways. when i did take dmg it was for only 30+ regular hits. around 60% hp he used invincible. about 1 min later, last resort + souleater + guillotine and its KO. afterwards i checked for the skeleton and he long past despawned. clicked on the ??? and continued the quest.

On a side note: this is one of the most interesting stories so far in the game lol. too bad for the crappy prize at the end, well at least i can give it to my warrior.
pretty easy

just solo'd these 2 as 62rdm/blm...did the quest 'cause, well...wanted something to do XD and this one had a nifty story to it.
i started off fighting the shadow, silencing the skellie since the casting was a wee irritating. once
Giollemitte used Invincible i swapped to the skeleton, who, in all honestly, should be given attention first.he casts the elemental magic that can do the damage to strip stoneskin fast..all Giollemitte cast on me was Flash and did regular attacks. The skeleton esquire fell quite fast, and Giollemitte was down to nearly 10% of his life by then (hacking away at something w/ blaze spikes on'll do that >:D), and finished him off w/ ease...a flourish from Thunder II <.<;;

overall, very easy, just kept stoneskin/phalanx up, blaze spikes and enfire, haste, and a few basic enfeebs on each mob....cakewalk. barely took any damage, after a regen still had 957/999hp, and over 150/527mp.
mwahaha

This is a very fun quest, I VERY highly recommend it to anyone who likes to get story out of the game. :)

As for the NMs, I fought them with a level 68 Taru BLM/WHM, and it was easy as can be. I was a level 50 THF/NIN at the time. I tanked the shadow while he fought the skelly. I didn't even need healing the entire time. I could've soloed the shadow easily, and pretty much did, except that my BLM friend cast a few AoE spells at the beginning of the fight. The only reason I think it took me so long to kill him was because of Flash (I had taken off my Life Belt in favor of the +5 Evasion from my Survival Belt, which, along with my Emperor Hairpin, Nomad's Mantle, and Utsusemi, made this guy easy as hell to tank).
Only have to fight 1?

First off, awesome story, who cares about the collar, the story is your reward.

Anyways me and a friend did this, I put sneak on first and he moved back a little ways, I clicked on ??? and the skeleton apeared in front of me and the shadow aggrod my friend and we pulled him away so we could fight 1 at a time. after killing the shadow we returned to the ??? to see that the skeleton was gone, so i clicked the ??? expecting the skeleton to pop, but was treated to a cutscene.

Quick post here, just wanted to say that a taru 65whm/32blm soloed today. ( me! ) Easy with stoneskin, haste, silence and paralyze. I also had bat earrings so every time the pld would flash me I would gain 30 evasion. Storyboard alone is worth doing this quest. With blm as my sub with warp, this quest took me a total of 48 minutes, and I was taking my time. Good luck and have fun, and Seraph this is Jester, the real jester. :) \ (o.o) /

Fought these 2 as 59RNG/NIN very, very easily. Took me to 563/929, but I killed Giollemitte B Feroun with ~750HP left. The skeleton I just knifed for TP, so his Ice Spikes and random hits did the dmg. Giollemitte has poor defense, arrows were landing for near 250 damage each. I found him easier than the skeleton, but that could just be due to skeletons being strong to arrows. Giollemitte mainly missed, and I lost my shadows due to the Skeleton's spells. Average dmg for Gio's hits was around 50 (remember that RNG has horrible defense), and the skeleton did around 16 dmg/hit. I'd estimate Gio's life to be around 3-3.5k HP, and the Skeletons around 2.5-3k.

I just solo'd this as a 57THF/28NIN. Had a bit of a problem keeping Utsusemi up and had to use 3 x-potions. Took out the PLD first cause he hit harder but the skeleton was a pain in using its Blood Saber. Ended up using my 2hr with 100hp left, then he kept using blood saber. Managed to survive with 38 hp. Was quite fun to do this considering I was expecting to die.

I just solod this as a 55rdm/blm. I was wearing good quality rdm gear and weilding the Wise Wizards Analece. I used steam crab and swapped out my tactican magicians coat for a gaia double (for the extra def adn vit). I kept my buffs up the whole battle. It was effective to keep phalanx and stoneskin up. The battle was very very easy.

Overall I was very happy with this quest. Is started it becuase I wanted to medival collar, but the amount of story here is tremendous. I highly recomend this quest.Everyone you talk to gives you a cut scene. I wouldnt even use the walkthrough. There is a good solid logical progression to the quest such that you can let the quest guide you through. One of the better quests in the game in my opinion.

Im only a 31 Rdm, and i am in the middle of this quest. I was doing this last night, but logged right b4 i went to Ramp's tomb. Good thing i didnt keep going in this quest, or i would have been seriously whomped. Why does it giv out a lvl35 item if it takes 50+ do do it witout dieing?
P.S. IMO this item isnt even that good.

of course you'd think it's not good, a rdm needs vit like a warrior needs mp, it's made for paladins and others who focus on taking hits well, i'm now 51 hume pld (havent updated my status on here) and i still wear mine for the vit bonus, even though 2 vit gives u 1 def. you'd be surprised how much more effective vit boosts are than def. boosts
Easy.

Did this the other day with a couple friends.

lvl 50 war/nin (52 now) 50 pld, 52 sam, and 43 drk.

I tanked the Shadow mob while the DRK and I beat down on it. and the PLD tanked the skelly while him and the SAM did their thing.

These 2 NMs are pushovers, all you need is 3 level 50 and you can beat the NMs.

This quest takes a lot of running around.. so use a level 1 job to do the travelling and just deathwarp, instead of wasting precious conquest points on warp scrolls.
Just did this ^^

Last night i was very bored and i happen to be talking to random NPC's when i hit this guy. None of my friends new what quest it was so i decided to go ahead and do it by myself, seemed like a bunch of walking, and it didnt seem to hard. When i go to jugner, i just clicked on the ??? i was a lvl 50 RDM / 25 BLM. wasn't expecting anything but an item or another cutscene when i get ambushed by the 2 NM's >.< i went in totally unprepared and i still put up a fight.. i wasnt wearing my good gear as i was skilling up, and they nearly killed me. I had to zone, since between the 2 they interrupted everything and didn't let me cast 1 cure. like 10 min later my friend a 41 War/ 19 MNK passes by and i asked him to just voke the skeloton while i beat doen on the PLD. after this it was smooth sailing. awesome quest, and i loved the cutscenes... but i was doing quest for gil, it was a real let down to find out its just worth 4k. good luck to everyone that does this quest its very interesting ^^

Just did this one last night. For the first half where you have to run back and forth we managed to save a lot of time by me switching to BLM for Warp II and our SMN switching to WHM for teleport-holla. Once the first half was done we went to the ??? in Jugner with 48WHM (me), 48SMN, 47PLD, 49NIN, 47DRG. It was a very easy fight. I barely got to 3/4 of my MP used as all that was needed was some Regen II and a couple of Cure IIs. Even though the collar wasn't spectacular it's a very interesting story that was worth the time and effort put into the quest IMO.

Anybody who starts this quest, be prepared for it to last a very very long time - it took 3 hours last night for myself and a 70 paladin friend to do this quest.

Expect a lot of running around, back and forth, yada yada yada.

Great story line, however this will take away an evening of play and leave you with a rather paltry "reward" - worth about 2.5k at AH or 1800 to vendor.

62drk/31thf

finished with 35% hp and 5% mp left
kinda sux fighting this team as a duo, resited sleep, and drain/aspir dosen't work on them, and if those don't work the drk 2hr won't work.

wasn't too hard. they managed to sleep me at the start and then not hit me, hehe glad i was able to equip my necklace and just bulid up tp untill the finaly managed to hit me.

Um... I can't trigger the quest!! I'm level 32, and whenever I talk to this guy, he says something like "Nothing to report!" And then says something about not scaring him like that... and that's it. I talked to him again, and still nothing. What exactly are the requirements for me to start this quest? I'm Rank 3 and I have level 3 Fame, and I can't trigger it! Actually, I can't trigger the "Her Majesty's Garden" quest either. Augh, what am I doing wrong!? Do I not have enough fame?

Soloed them as rdm 60/nin 10
Very easy battle of about 6 mins. Used phalanx, stoneskin, blink, haste, refresh, enfire, protect 3. First i killed the mage skeleton (about 1300 HP), then killed the shadow (about 2000 HP). He used invincible and flash lot of times.
solo possible for pld 52
# Jul 18 2004 at 6:24 AM Rating: Decent
i just completed the quest entirely on soloing...

when the 2 nm first appeared after i clicked on the ??? on the ground, the mage was in my view while the pld was behind me...and so i attack the mage first then bring both of them into my line of sight....i keep slashing the mage and then do a seraph blade on it...then i continue to pounding it with the occasional cure3

after i killed the mage i hit the pld next, then i used a cure3 on the enemy pld ( which is wasted due to 35dmg dealt whereas the sword dealt 70-100 dmg) so just save the cures for myself should do the trick...then i do a 200% seraph blade on the enemy and then use sentinel, when the enemy used its invincible, i run away from him trying to avoid his hits as much as possible, after sometime with the enemy at about 1/6 hp left, i use my invincble on and wack the enemy and used one more seraph blade on it and sometime later its dead...with me leaving about 240+hp and 7mp....not bad for a paladin 52 solo ^^
i used meat mithkabob, protect3 and shell2.

This is one of the most interesting quests that I have completed to date. The story is really a lot of fun, you get to hear a good chunk of Vana'diel history, and the characters that you are introduced to are memorable. There's a lot of running around, but time invested is worth it.

Everything up until the NM battle is easy to solo. The part of Ranperre's Tomb that you need to pass through to reach the NM is not the crazy pit of doom where all those high levels hang out; it's just a nice little tunnel with nothing worse than a goblin leecher to be found.

For the NM battle, I went with a small group comprised of a 52 RDM/WHM (me), a 50 RDM/BLM, and a 51 BLM/WHM. We made it through the NM battle just fine, but it was not a cakewalk by any means, and I think that some of the other posts that suggest someone could solo it at level 50 are a bit off. ^^;

Giollemitte B Feroun used Invincible, which is a pain in the butt. I threw up Stoneskin and Phalanx and used Curaga to draw hate and tank him right back until his 2 hr wore off, which seemed to take forever-- I spammed Curaga enough that I had to Convert. Our little taru black mage wound up being hit with Dimensional Death, but it was weak compared to the Dimensional Death damage I've seen doled out to people by mobs in the Necropolis. Both of the NMs are rather resistant to spells; I managed to stick Silence, but even with capped enfeebling, pie, and plenty of stat-boosts, most of my other spells were resisted.

The battle would have been much easier and safer if we had brought along a tank instead of just a crazy red mage.

Good luck to everyone planning to do this one, and enjoy the story.^^

I searched for a higher level person to help with this quest and by the time him and my friend were ready we ran off to Jugner around 0:00. While running through Ranperre's tomb I kept an eye on the clock. With 6 seconds left we zoned to Jugner and when we got there it was 4:02. With little hope I examined the "???" at 4:05 and to my suprise the two NM popped out anyway. This leads me to believe that the time they can spawn may be 18:00-4:00+
