Summary

You are being sent to Norg as an emissary of Bastok. Meet Sir Naji in front of the President's Office for a full briefing.

Walkthrough

For starters, from somewhere you will need to get an Adaman Ore. You only need one Adaman Ore for every 6 people.

Start by picking up the quest from any guard. You will be directed to Naji, the guard outside the President's Office, where you will be treated to a cut scene.

You will be sent to talk to Gilgamesh in Norg. If you have not entered Norg since defeating the Shadow Lord, you will be treated to a long cut scene, as well as another one when you talk to Gilgamesh. Make sure you talk to him until he tells you to retrieve a Frag Rock from Ifrit's Cauldron.

Take a chocobo to Yhoator Jungle, and take the I-5 entrance to Ifrit's Cauldron. The ??? is near to the entrance, but you still need to be careful. Bees do not agro, but bats and volcanic gasses both will. They both con DC at 63 generally, but the gasses can explode, doing over 1200 points of damage to everyone standing around. So have Barfira and Stoneskin up if these things agro, and have Stun ready. But generally try to avoid them.

From the entrance, head left at the first junction, then take the next right. At H-7, there will be a lava flow with a ??? in the middle of it. To trigger the NM, you'll need to trade an adaman ore to it. If there are any other mobs floating around (there weren't when we were there), you'll want to take care of them first. There is a volcanic gas on the other side of an impassable rock ridge, but it never linked while we were there.

There are actually two NM's: Magma (a bomb) and Salamander (a lizard). The bomb drops the Frag Rock whereas the Salamander does not. If you can figure out a way to kill the bomb without the lizard, that would be fine. As with all bombs, make sure you have Stoneskin and Barfira up and people ready with Stun. We killed it 4 times without having it explode once, so it's certainly doable. The Salamander will cast a Fireball, but it doesn't do huge amounts of damage.

Once the Magma is dead, it will drop 6 frag rocks. Each of these is Rare/Ex. Someone without a Frag Rock will have to trade the Adaman Ore, so if you are doing it multiple times, you may need to trade the 2nd or 3rd ore around some.

Once you've got your Frag Rock, return to Norg and trade your Frag Rock to Gilgamesh for a cut scene. Then return to Bastok and talk to Naji for a cut scene, Rank 7 and 40,000 gil.

Save on costs

One thing to remember when doing this mission is that as long as one person can spawn it, 6 ra/ex frags will drop and can be looted by anyone at all regardless of current mission status or even current city.

So, once you reach 6-2, fill up your party with as many Bastokers as you can find who have not done 6-2 and still need the rock; even rank 1 Bastokers or friends from different cities that plan on ranking Bastok can benefit. You can then divide the cost of the ore by 6. This also makes it easier to recruit help, too -- if you happen to be unable to solo it. Just tell your Bastoker friends that they can be essentially done with 6-2 without having it flagged.

LoL mates, the bastok ones anyway, decided we were going to go get rank 7 for our nightly kicks, after shouting in jueno for at least an hour we decided just to go do it, me 69thf, 72 drk, and a 71 brd, tried to talk a blm or whm into coming or even a tank but to no avail..
After reading threads here we decided that I (thf) could tank it out (future practice for those odd nm tankings). Key was to dispatch as much of the mobs hps as possible as fast as possible and not die in the explosion so we headed out.
The route from I-6 zone was realtivly clear as the bees made good tp builders, and no agrro, only area we encountered aggro was after night when the bats spawned and an explosure at the ???(although we did encounter one bomb on the way out in the second intersection).
I sneak popped, same as in 6-1 the visual mob aggroed, liz did not, and hid, much like the THF AF fight, bomb dropped aggro, and I returned to the camp (in the entrance) since you have to walk around the lava to pop). Bard 2 houred *disco lights* and gave us attack and fire buff as well as barfira, prot, and shell.

SA and Blink up, drk pulls bomb circles, liz stays, drk engages and takes hate, I SA Dancing Edge ~850 dmg to take hate, DRK TA Cross Reaper ~1100, mob is very close to half mark, takes the bomb 10-12 attack rounds to strip shadows (my evasion is no where near capped either ~180ish). Straight Melee including brd till ~1/4 life. At this point I was frantically trying to cast utsus to no avail and was about to perfect dodge and recast (im at ~800/1060). Bomb gets ready to blow, I pop a SA/Hide/Shark Bite, Drk throws a SA...
Bomb Explodes, we each take ~200 dmg, and 6 frag rocks drop, we shout for freebies, no takers, and walk out with rank 7 ^^.

PS, I highlighted the important points in post, aslo we had to dish out 33,333 each to get our ore, Someone cleared the Jueno AH earlier. But we still came out 7k in the lead

I just did this again on my new character. This is said to require 12 members around lvl 60.

I go in with my team.
60NIN/WAR (me)
55SAM/WAR
62BLM/WHM
58RDM/BLM
63WHM/BLM

We cast sneak on the person who pop the NMs. NMs pop and the Lizzard NM doesnt aggro (sneak). I tank the Bomb only needing Haste. The BLM is there for the Stun. Fight until the Bomb dies and you get your Frag Rocks and the Lizzard dissapears. Congratulations! You just finish Bastok Mission 6-2 with 5 members. The Bomb never landed a hit on me.

12 members for this? I have two words for all.

Nice one SE.

Adaman Ore = 90k
Been shouting for weeks to do this and no takers. Looks like I have to do this with LS mates that don't need it so i gotta cough up the money myself. >.<
Solo.

If the bomb still drops the frag rocks if it explodes I could go as rdm/nin with reraise and just wait for it to blow it self up, wait for the items to drop into my inventory then raise my self and warp out. I would say some lost exp is worth saving an hour or two to put a party together, and the braging rights saying you solo'd 6-2 ^^
Resist FTW!

Well a friend and I felt like doing this mission last night so I went to Jeuno, shouted for a bit and sent /t's to all the Rank 6 bastokers i could find. Most everyone didn't feel like doing it or needed 6-1 first. So we had 5 ppl, and i decided to ask if everyone would be willing to try as 6 if i could find a whm. everyone was game so after about 10 mins of searching i found a 70 something whm who needed 6-1 but was smart enough to realize he could still get the EX frag rock from the bomb. so we all choco'd to the more eastern Ifrit's Cauldron entrance and went in. I knew the way because i had a coffer here for DRG AF body. so we got to the flame spout thing and buffed up. no other mobs were around. our set-up was this.

60 DRG (me)
62 RDM Morgania
63 WAR/NIN Ludo
70 NIN Alista
7? WHM Sirotama
7? BLM Migeru

I sneak popped the mobs hoping only the magma would aggro but the salamander did too. the NIN was very quick to voke the magma off of me and the RDM, NIN, and WAR all went to work on him. i just stood there taking hits from the lizard while both the whm and blm tried to sleep him. they were unable to get sleep to stick so i just let him keep hitting me as the whm and blm healed. the bomb dropped pretty fast due to some nice Rampage'ing and didnt get to explode. everyone then killed the lizard. No one dropped even to orange health except for the blm who dropped to 141 hp after the Salamander did tail bash or whatever move on her. probably the most important reason we won as 6 was the NIN tank. he probably hits pretty hard especially with berserk but none of his hits were able to land. much easier than i thought it would be, im just glad my pty was willing to try as 6.

EDIT: spelling and to add the ore was only 77k. no matter how much it is, i just suggest you buy from AH and have everyone chip in.

Just as an FYI, the reason the lizard aggro'd you was because sneak wears as soon as you get hit. My suggestion is to give the ore to nin or /nin. Pop an oil or cast sneak on the ore trader and the bomb will eat shadows until the puller can get out of sneak aggro range from the lizard. Fight, the bomb, stun any explosions and as long as no one approaches the lizard it will despawn.

Our pty:
71nin/war
61rng/nin
60nin/war
64rdm/blm
62whm/blm
72rdm/blm

My static partner Start and I both lvl66 bsts duoed these mobs for 6-2. The bomb took me one opo opo and 2 bees where it self destructed for 200dmg to me and 400 to the bee (it was at 10%hp~). The lizard turned out to be harder then we thought and my duo partner died but got raised by a rdm and we finished the lizard with about 4-5 pets total while Start was still weakened.

Just finished this with 9 people. One 58 mage, others from 61-64, and one 70 NIN. We did it two times with no problems. We didnt even get the lizzy aggro. Only thing we did was pop sneak before spawning NM. Thought it was strange buy the lizzy didnt aggro. Good Luck.

This mission was a joke. I was in a pt of 6 ppl, 74 war, rest of us in 60s and 1 that was high 50s. We did this last thursday night. I popped the bomb using sneak, no liz aggro (actually never even saw liz). war voked, brd 2-hr'd, i used barrage for 1700+ and slug shot for 2200+ while blms nuked and sam went at it ... dead. Lasted no joke maybe 15 seconds. Funny thing was we sat and debated for like an hour whether we shoudl get an alliance and do it. You could do this with 3-4 ppl imo if you have the right jobs.

Did this a couple weeks ago, had SMN 67, 60 PLD, 61 RDM, 60 SAM, and me 75 BST.

I popped and pulled them, but I seriously doubt that it it possible to pull the mobs seperate, since the second I traded they spawned right next to me. Maybe there is a different point you can trade from, but oh well.

Anyway, I got aggro from both the bomb and the liz, and my bright idea was to only pull them bomb, but that went out the window. So I made Carrie tank the bomb as I ran like hell back to the PT telling the one SMN that we needed him to tank the lizard. So when I got back to the PT with 400 hp, the avatar got it off me, and about 30 seconds later, the bomb caught up to me. By this time we had somehow aggroed a bat, so I charmed it and we all went to town on the bomb and took it down pretty fast before it could use a second TP attack (Berserk for first). We came closer to dieing on the lizard after it fireballed taking me and the PLD into the red.
6-2

Very easy, just did it with 75MNK/NIN, 70DRK/WAR, 73BRD, 62RNG/NIN (me), 62 WHM/BLM and 63 RDM/BLM. Took like 3 minutes to do, nearly killed myself tho, Sharpshot >> Sidewinder >> Barrage >> Sidewinder. I did it all with the Minne songs and when it used Berserk, did around 1950dmg with the Sidewinders. Ate through my shadows and nearly killed me (was hitting for 250dmg). But over all very easy fight, blew with less then 10% HP, almost killed WHM but other then that it went smooth.

Yes in fact like you guys said the bomb is easy, my sidewinder did 1766 dmg but...

The bomb EXPLODES!!! cause our party completely died... it was 1/8 living and did 1200 dmg on a pld 70.

So mages stay far and blink barfire stoneskin and reraise ^^;

I dont know it this has already been readdressed, but someone said the bomb doesnt blow. I dont know if that got changed in a patch or u just got lucky.

We fought it tonight 3x's and it blew up the 3rd time. Luckly it was almost dead but it almost droped half our alliance. No one died, but it was very powerful If it had half life it would had killed everyone. Oh and we couldnt ever get the lizard to go to sleep.

And I was the puller... Anyways the bomb is really easy, party was:

WHM me
RDMx2 (one 62, the other 66)
PLDx3 (one 68, one 60, the other 73 needless to say who was main tank)
RNG 58
THF68
and a unknown level (think around 60) Japanese WAR

Obvissly no stun... so I was far back with reraise lol, 5 of us needed the mission the others were helping. We just owned the bomb... no one dropped to yellow, RNG did something like 500 with barrage and killed it seconds later with a 900+ Sidewinder. Thing didn't even have a chance to think about blowing up. We left the Liz, which will despawn, by having the puller (me) get sneak on. Basically the bomb is sight, the liz sound. So pop then run like heck to your party which should be camping by the little path you came in from. Hopefully the bomb will miss you and maybe not even hit you at all due to range if you trade then run right away. WHM is actually probably the best puller, followed by RDM. Sneak, stoneskin, blink. While RDM has phalanx there is no risk involoved in pulling him if you do it right. Compared to 6-1 this was cake.
6-2
# Jul 24 2004 at 7:09 PM Rating: Decent
I've just completed this one...won't say it was easy or something, since we had many higher levels helping out (thanks for that!).

The 2 NMs you fight are a Lizard called Salamander and a Bomb type named Magma. Magma is the enemy that drops 6 frag rocks needed for the quest. hence why you need one Adaman Ore per party that needs to complete this mission.

i was able to complete this mission with only myself (NIN60), PLD61, and WHM60. i used a silent oil before trading an adaman ore to the ???, and immediately ran for the zone. i managed to only pull the bomb, though i can't say whether or not it was due to the silent oil, or luck.

after a battle that lasted about five to ten minutes, we defeated the bomb and each got the item we needed.

it was night time, so that helped in pulling the bomb to the zone with the ninja kyahan's 25% movement speed increase. evasion+10 from ninja hakama was likely also very beneficial. i was only hit twice during the entire battle, due to unlucky timing on recasting utsusemi:ichi over utsusemi:ni.

not sure how much damage the bomb would have caused had it exploded, but we figured that even if it killed us, it would have been alright since the items still would have dropped and been auto-distributed to our corpses. ;)

Talk to gate guard, then gilgamesh. Then go fight the two NMs and you're good!
Note: You actually only have to kill the bomb. You can kill the bomb, sleep the liz and run

BTW this mission is very easy.
My party was lv57-66 12 ppl, average around 63, and we destroyed the mob. I'd say a party of 60-65 could do it.

It is generally pretty easy to get people for this mission, a lot of people hold off on it due to the Adaman Ore. I did it the other day with an alliance of 12 level 60-70 players.

The NM's were not that tough, The problem as stated before was getting the Adaman ore. We decided as an alliance to try and farm for it at first... We went after the Phantom worm in Kuftal tunnel first, killed it 3 times (with a level 67 thief in party) no Adaman drop... Then we decided to try and mine for it... Needless to day Ifrit's Cauldron is not meant to be mined by an Alliance.... Several died when sneaks/invis ran out after they got seperated from on of our 4 set groups (you have to be sneaked for the bats and invis'd for the bomb types) We finally ended up buying the ore from the AH...

169k for the first ore, 17Ok for the 2nd, came to right about 30,000 a person (28,750) and you get 40,000 for completing it...

Yeah its a let down, but I foundout the reason for it... When the mission was first created, nothing used Adaman ore, so it was pretty cheap, much more recently, you get many armors/weapons made out of it, drastically bringing up price...

Must have had some pretty sad level 60s to require 10-12 of them for mission 6-1.

As it says the mission is not skippable which means you would never be able to get more rank.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 27 2004 at 2:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i wouldnt even bother with this mission if u had to buy ur own Adaman ore cause it sells for far too much to only get 40k for it and a rank
RE: lol
# Apr 27 2004 at 2:55 AM Rating: Decent
Bear in mind that you only need one ore/6 people though, so you can split the cost for the ore 6 ways. Say the ore cost 120k.. that's only 20k each person, so you'll still make 20k each and attain rank 7.
