SummaryGauntlets wrought by Borghertz, the legendary craftsman, lie hidden somewhere in Vana'diel. DescriptionNote: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 to begin this quest. To start this quest, head to the armor shop in Upper Jeuno and speak with Guslam the galka. He tells you about a pair of old gauntlets, crafted by the legendary Borghertz, that might have been seen in Kuftal Tunnel. Head to Kuftal Tunnel and find a Kuftal coffer key. The keys drop from Cave Worms, Deinonychuses, Haunts, Recluse Spiders, Robber Crabs, Sand Lizards and Scavenger Crabs, which are fished. Next, find a treasure coffer. The coffers spawn on the first map (with the zone to Western Altepa Desert) at H-7 and H-6, and on the larger second map at K-11, G-9, H-9, J-7, J-8, I-4, F-6 and D-9. Trade your key to a coffer to receive the key item Some Old Gauntlets. You do not have to be a samurai to receive this key item. Go back to talk to Guslam. He will say the gauntlets are work of Borghertz, but he cannot repair them. You then have to go speak to Yin Pocanakhu in the Tenshodo shop in Lower Jeuno. She talks about a toolbox that won't open. Pay her 1000 gil, and she tells you the toolbox is on a crate outside of the Duty-Free shop in Port Jeuno. Find the toolbox and examine the ??? for a cutscene, in which the spirit of Borghertz appears and asks for Shadow Flames from Castle Zvahl Baileys. Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and examine the torch at (F-8). A notorious monster bomb by name of Dark Spark will appear. Kill Dark Spark and examine the torch a second time to get the Shadow Flames. Return to Port Jeuno and re-examine the ??? at the toolbox for a cutscene and your Myochin Kote. Quest SeriesThis quest is part of the samurai artifact gear quest series. is there a way to cancel one of the previous borghertz's missions accepted for another set of af gear so i can do this one or must it be completed first?
No, once accepted it must be completed in order to flag new "hands" quests.

Opened fight with 300%TP Savage Blade and did 1126 damage(Pretty decent without gear D: )
Dark Spark got me down to about 500HP once and that was because I was eating while fighting him and not paying too much attention, lol. Easily soloable by any 75 job. Just take your time and make sure you pay attention. Had to cast Ni about 6 times and ichi 4 times.
Overall fight: Boring fun interesting at the same time!

I recently dinged SAM to 50, and never even though about camping for this coffer (I'm convinced that Shogun Rice Balls don't exist on my server...) since the gloves are nice, but not really a must have. Last night while XP-ing in Kuftal Tunnel my party netted seven (7!) Coffer Key drops from Robber Crabs in a two and a half hours of grinding. When I received mine, I decided that I'd stay in the Tunnel- Guivre be damned!- and find the coffer since I was already in the zone. 15 minutes later, the BRD leaves the PT and I volunteer to pull. On my third trip out of our camp (the Cape Teriggan zone) my tab-spamming shows a Treasure Coffer right next to the wall at I-4. Score! Key to Coffer, Old Gauntlets get, and one more Robber Crab sacrificed to the XP grind. Too easy!

Ok just a quick note do not attempt to do this for SAM if he tells you to go to eldieme necropolis for PLD AF hands. I did not know, i was trying to do both the PLD artifact gear and the Samurai gear. And I had a kuftal coffer key so i dedcided to get the sam hands all i got was map... so Im assuming you can only do one of these at a time... so now i have to get another key and find another coffer as well as finish eldieme necropolis coffer and key first this is tougher than the kuftal key because no one parties there arghh.. wish I saw this posted as well before I did this well at least i have the kuftal tunnel map... to mark the coffer positions on ... I hope this helps someone who does not know this as well ...

I got my key from exping and found the coffer this morning, I got the map though, Something wrong? I do have the Pld AF hands quest open, i guess I gotta finish that one first.
But i did get my AF legs last night in Quicksand Coffer.....What up with that? Am I stupid?

To any one who needs to where a coffer pos is i found one @ (k-11) this was the first placed i checked and there it was but there is a ghoul right on the coffer so make sure you have someone with you the can kill it i had a lvl75SAM with me so i opened the coffer and got my Artifact Gloves then i warped out so goodluck if u have any questions ask ^^

Does anyone know where abouts the treasure coffer's <pos> is i've been lookin for days and cant find it also i dont have a map and i think there might be to floors to kuftal tunnel and if there is is it on the first or second floor

For those that dont know, you CAN open your gloves chest only as any job to get the key item. I've done that for all my jobs after BLM (it was my first job).

Ok so i was in a party in Kuflat and a coffer key dropped so my party let me have it for my Sam AF armor then a few minutes later a mage runs up and tells me that there is a coffer chest nearby and she will take me to it. She takes me to the chest np and i get my key item. After the party i go to jeuno and do all the cutscenes and head out with a lvl 75 whm and thief to go kill Dark Spirit. This NM was a piece of cake for our Thief. I got the item went back to jeuno and got my AF hands. Thanks to Yohyoh and Numo for getting me my AF hands.
i can solo this whole quest heheheeh tis good to be 70+
Got this quest at 54SAM i already had the Kuftal Coffer key from xping there so me and my friend Pirocat went in to find the coffer... Went as SAM/WHM so i could sneak myself and not waste money oils.. too about 15mins to find the coffer that spawned on the hill by the tigers... =)

Make sure you check by shout or tell (depending on how many people are in there) if the coffer's been open. All of the spots are easy to find with a decent coffer map, but if the coffers been opened you'll end up running around in circles until Guivre knocks you out. I had someone open it on me and I ended up curing a pt with my SAM/WHM for a half hour rather than running around looking for an unspawned coffer.

Yea, just a casual note that no one has seemed to post here. If this is your second AF-Hands quest, you don't need to pay the npc an additional 10k to find the box.

I was expecting something harder.
Just finished this now. I was lucky, the Coffer took me 3 minutes max to find (although I did lose 4k exp in the process).
We went to fight Dark Spark with myself (55SAM/27WAR), a 62WAR/NIN, a 58 PLD/WAR, a 41WHM/BLM and a 64NIN/WAR. Some of us didn't have Vahzl crystal so we just did a runner through Beaucedine Glacier and picked up the crystal along the way. When we zoned into the castle we saw a 70PLD/35WAR friend from our LS who decided he wanted in lol. We Sneak/Invised our way to the torches and Dark Spark was an absolute piece of cake.
Myself and the WAR did Enpi >> Rampage. Enpi did 380 and Rampage did 740 with Distortion doing around 250 and that took off a good 1/4 of its health.
Good stuff.
Thanks to the guys in TheKindred and also Chancerin and Turtlelin. ;)

today i got my AF gloves (and my AF body but thats OOT).
Me and some people from my LS + a couple of friendly souls helped me get the coffer key in Kuftal Tunnel.
We were killing crabs and get a link, it turns out bad and 3 ppl die (including me). I get a raise from a BLM and just when he had casted cure III on me i hear "NM, run!" and everyone in the party screams for me to run my ass out of there. Long story short... he kills me in one blow -.- ;
Well, we get the key after i get another raise.
Next day me and a WHM friend went looking for the coffer. it took us about 20 mins to find it.
Now i had to go back and kill Dark Spark (yes, i killed him without activating the mission with some ppl >.>).
The fight with DS went on nice till the mofo cast his AOE. our sam lvl 65 dies and 2 of us are in red, rest in yellow but we manage to kill him and i get the item.
After that i just headed back to Jeuno and collected my reward.

Everyone in my LS still needs to fight Dark Spark. My question is, if I have started the quest, but have not gotten the Kuftal Tunnel Coffer, or spoken with anyone other than Guslam, can I go fight Dark Spark with them and still receive the Shadow Flame to finish the quest? Or do I need to do everything to get up to this point first?

Well I've been searching for a couple of days now and died twice because of unfortunate loss of sneak at the wrong time. All I want to know is how hard can this damn coffer be to find? I've hit every spawn point and still no luck. If anyone is willing to help me locate this elusive chest message me. Valimgor on Caitsith

Can someone post a coffer spawn map for me? I'm still just 52 but I want as much AF as I can get as early as possible, I have Kyahan and Haidate so far. And I have a key for Kuftal.

If anyone has trouble getting the coffer, there are 2 really easy spots it spawns. One is under the cliff at the zone to West Altep, the other is about 100 feet away opposite of the cliff that you can see behind a pile of rocks. I just waited at the cliff and checked the other spot close and got mine in like 5 mins lol but i know i was lucky.

man i thought quicksands coffer was long this is hell >< i been in kuftal for 10 hrs and noone ever even saw the coffer chest and im still sitin there now i ask every few minutes and still ones even saw it >< if any u got the pop locations please let me know send tell or something while im online id be greatful

Just got my Myochin Kote and am very happy.
2 lvl 75s blm and rdm tarus helped me plus there was anout rdm and smn who need this so we made a 19 prty alliance (the 2 lvl 75s where enough thoe).
The castle was nuts, easy prey to a 56sam(me) might not be bad but when 10 demon knights and 5 hell eyes link up its some serious stuff.
This is easy with a party of 55+, must use sneak or invisnle to get to the torch but i wouldnt really know cus we fought our way in.

guslam wont give me a quest. he just says, "head to the counter for service." i have no clue what to do about that, anyone else got a clue whats going on here?
For the other hands quests, you needed to have completed AF1 (Weapon) and started whatever your AF2 quest was before he would give it to you... try that.

Hello, I am on the Shiva server and I am wondering if anyone who is a high enough lvl can help me with this quest, I would be willing to pay a reward with in reason, so if you can help me, please send me a tel if you are on during these times.

Hardest part of this whole kill is killing everything in the area you plan on fighting Dark Spark, and not aggroing the Demons on either side of the trenches.

this quest was pretty easy. the only hard part was finding the coffer in kuftal. took me three trips to finnaly find it, but the nm dark spark is a pushover
