Summary

You are to investigate the Zilart ruins of Ro'Maeve. Chief Engineer Cid has more details.

Walkthrough

Before venturing out to Ro'Maeve, make sure to have a talk with Cid.

In Ro'Maeve, clear the area around (L-7), Target the ??? to spawn two NM Golems called Mokkurkalfi.

After defeating the golems, you will need to find the ??? again for another cutscene. The ??? might be where it was before, but chances are it has moved to a new location. The ??? can spawn at:

  • D-10
  • E-9
  • E-10
  • E-11
  • G-9
  • I-8/J-8
  • K-10
  • K-11
  • L-10
  • L-7
When you check the ???, you will get a key item Reinforced Cermet. If you leave the zone before finding the ??? again, then you must fight the NMs a second time (logging out or accepting a tractor counts as zoning).

Return to Cid for a cutscene to complete this mission.

Tiny note on meltdown

The comments on meltdown confused me when coupled with the comments about golems, since golems do not do meltdown. I thought one or another of the data bits was incorrect. Just to clarify things:

Golems (NM and regular): meltdown X
Mission NMs are Golems and thus never meltdown.

Dolls (Cursed Puppets in Ro'Maeve): meltdown O
There might be dolls near some of the ???.

I didn't have to clear anything, but that could just have been lucky positioning (E-9). Trivial solo kill for 75 thf/nin. Killed one, other depopped, checked ???, got key item.

EDIT: Just tried to hand in key-item, but since I'm also on PM5-2 at present, I got Cid's "Uh, why aren't you out in Pso'Xja!?" speech. If this happens to you, keep on clicking Cid. Around the 3rd or 4th time you try to talk to him (no zoning needed, just click him), he'll run out of ways to say "go to Pso'Xja!" and let you finish Bastok 7-1.

First of all, I thought I would reiterated that you must receive the quest from a Gate Guard and then you must speak with Cid before going to Ro'Maeve.

I read all of the posts, and compiled a list of reported spawn points for the ???:

D-9, D-10, E-10, E-11, I-8, K-9, L-7, and L-10

P.S. : Don't forget your Sneak Oils ^^

OK Finished this mission

Got my RDM/nin I asked for a few friends to join me. (everyone was busy ><...

So I got a reraise gorget and bought 1 stack of sneak oil..
Went there.. and it took me 32 minutes to find a ???
checked the area and it was clear.. casted sneak and buffed myself and popped the 2 nm's
I casted slow on one of them and then soloed it...
Took a while but i was in no danger what so ever..
RDM/NIN rocks... killed him the other despawned.
then it took me about 14 minutes to find the other one and then then i buffed up thinking i had to fight the other one now or something.. this area was allot tuffer to pull one so i killed a weapon that was in the way.. then i sneaked up and buffed and then i got the "KeY ITEM" Cermet LOL

I thought I had to fight again. ohh well went back and got the mission done..

Did this today on a whim and it was a total cake-walk. 75 RDM, 75 THF and 75 BLM. Mission was for me (the RDM). We cleared out the only weapon in range, then I sneak-pulled on golem. We killed it in no time while the THF and I bounced hate. Went up, grabbed the second one and did it all over. Took less than 10 mins. If you sneak-pull them, trying to put them to sleep is unnecessary. Hoping the BCNM witll be just as easy.. ; ;

Well I tried sleeping them as a 75 BLM and sleepga was resisted. I'd assume they're not sleepable.

Still, we had a 72 NIN and 75 RDM/NIN and they each said they used *one* shihei in the fight. Must have horrible accuracy. Our only DD was 2 BLMs and those 2 (and a BRD came for fun).

The fight was cake. We were lucky enough to have it not meltdown. After we found the 2nd ??? two of our party members couldn't get the cerment thingy. We're still trying to figure out why >.> They both talked to Cid and got the CS after getting the mission from the Gate Guard... so *shrugs*
Can someone answer this already?

If you zone, do you have to fight again? Or can you hunt the ??? for the Cermet?

Tried this today. Went horribly wrong. Someone brought a train of weapons, and someone else popped golems early. We kiled the golems and then attempted to zone, but many died (including me). I HPed because I died in the middle of a bunch of magic aggro. Can I go back to Ro mauve and get the key or do I have to fight them again?
fast
# Feb 20 2005 at 1:45 AM Rating: Excellent
Did this a few days ago with a 18 person alliance.

Someone, no one admitted it, popped them before we could resneak, so we had to sleep the one and start beating down the other.

Luckily neither used meltdown, and the ??? was right there where the first one was after we killed them^^
Perfect way

Hi,

We did this last night with the LS Wootnotdeadyet
Many thanks to Pupalei, Quedari, Alsender, Sakima, Butters, Zaydain, Recardo etc
this mission is actually a cake when everyone has silent oils...make sure everyone has like 5 silent oils with them...cause the aggro magic is insane in this area.
when everyone is in Ro'maeve send one scout ahead. Zaydain was our scout en said the ??? was in the west (near soms ledge going up). so we everyone Silent Oiled and start going to the ???. once the whole alliance was there we cleared the mobs that had a chance of aggroeing us during the golem fight. so we killed all of em and let Alsender touch the ??? with Silent oil...the 2 Golems will be standing their as dumb puppets which gave us the chance to grab them one by one.
no one came in danger so we did overall good LOL.

one side note though...when we defeated the 2 golems the ??? should have randomly spawned somewhere else...at us it spawned right at the same spot after the fight so we we're kinda lucky but we didnt noticed after like 10 minutes...
untill somebody said did we check the spot from before? we went back to the spot and there it was!!! the same ??? as before...we touched got our Key item and Bastok Mission 7-1 Complete!
We found ??? at ....

At first we took the entire 18 person party around looking and several of us died. Keeping sneak on for 18 people is not easy.

A few suggestions later and the group decided to wait at the entrance while 3 NIN and 1 RDM (not me) went scouting.

We found the first ??? at E-10 and the second at L-10.

lost it...

Is it possible to still get the item or whatever at the 2nd ???, after the NM fight, if u have warped out?

After the fight, our alliance of 2 pt's went ahead to find the other ???. at a point, I had to recast sneak on myself, and then lost track of the others, and that place is not exactly a place u wanna get lost in.
Sad to say, I never reached the 2nd ???, before the alliance had teleportede out of there, leaving me behind. And with sneak wearing off in the middle of dolls weapons, I decided to 2hr and warp out. not much else to do.

So, is it possible to go back there, and get whatever I need from a ???, or do I need to fight the golems once again?

do you need sky access to do this mission?

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.

We did the mission yesterday...the hard part was to found the ???, we followed allakhazam´s directions...nothing...so 3 scouts started to search in all Ro´Mave for the damned ???.

I found the first one in K-9 in a corner; so all the alliance move to the point, cleared the area and popped the Nms, easy fight; after that, again, search for the new ???.

Lol, I found it in D-9...(We lost a lot of time checking and rechecking D-10)...so, again all the alliance moved to the pos, took the item and Teleport-Dem for the 7-2 mission...but that another history...

Final note: Our poor whm died 4 times... ;_; sorry man...He was our only casuality...

Let me just say having done this and having had things go awry... if you're anywhere near a Doll, tell anyone with a stun tech to save their tp at all costs, or pray you have a fast drk or blm to stun. Why? Well, our scout mistakenly clicked the ??? and spawned the two golems (there's no confirmation dialogue like some missions/quests), and even though we killed the golems, people blew TP on them despite a weapon and doll link. Our BLM wasn't that fast...

And well:
http://www.lakupo.com/ren/meltdowndeath.jpg
http://www.lakupo.com/ren/meltdowndeath3.jpg

...you get the picture. By time some of us were raised, the doll re-popped and meltdowned me to death -again-... I didn't even have time to get 100 TP to do anything with. It was a huge, huge mess, so be careful, make sure everyone's nearby and for the love of god, save your TP for stuns.

Also there's a rumor that after the golems are killed, you only have 10 minutes to find the ??? again. Totally untrue, we'd killed the golems, all died, all got raised, some died again, all unweakened, scouted/moved onto the next one, cleared the area, and still got the cermet key item without another fight.

Well, the current one up there is just a copy paste of the one on Mysterytour. Here's my version, to correspo nd with my work on 6-1/2
___________

I highly suggest getting at least 12 60+ people, and really, the more is better. As most everyone knows, moving large alliances is a PAIN in the ***. I would say the best way through is being prepared to have to kill large amounts of weapons at any time. Area Effect sleep spells can often come in handy in add situations.

As Bennykun noted, send out one runner to find the ???, and then lead everyone to it after.

The ???s have different spawn points, and I don't have a complete list. However, the ones that I can verify are the following:
D-10, L-10, and L-7.

The weapons and golems aggro magic, so BRING SILENT OIL. There will be times where you can't recast sneak, so you have to use an item instead of magic - While it's fine to gang up on a single mob with 18 people, these aren't going to be very easy to kill with only single parties handling them - Because, when you make an alliance, the parties are often inbalanced. I can't stress avoiding adds, and sleeping them when you do get them, enough. It is vital you do not end up fighting more than you can handle.

You will get aggro. You will get adds. Don't lose your head. It's hard to find a safe place to raise a person, because they will aggro the caster. It is possible to deal with it. If you have to kill the mobs in the area to raise someone, do it carefully.

Getting to the NM is much more taxing and difficult than killing them. The fights are quite easy, just follow the usual setup. Golems are based on light, so I suggest doing a Dark skillchain, as it will be more effective

Best idea is to get as large an alliance as you can for this. When we went we ended up fighting like 3-4 Omniscient Weapons at a time, and then due to miscommunication the NMs were triggered a bit early... we were up to the fight, though. The real trick is, after the fight, instead of running all over the place with your huge alliance, send one person out to find the new location of the ??? and call everyone over to him. Make sure you have the map (which you can buy in Mhaura, I believe). Good luck!
