Mission Orders

Walkthrough

Accept the mission from any gate guard. He asks you to investigate the activity of the orcs in Yughott Grotto. Head to the burning circle in Horialis Peak for a BCNM battle.

For this battle, a balanced party of at least LV 65 players is highly recommended. Even at that level, it will not be a particularly easy fight. You will need someone with a group sleep spell, so a BLM or BRD (or both) is highly recommended. Only people from San d'Oria that are of proper rank may enter this BCNM.

Inside the circle, you will find two orcish warmachines (similar to the Orcish Flamethrowers that you will find in other orc-occupied areas), as well as three named orcs. It is easiest to camp a little ways outside of the actual battle area, and have the PLD pull them all back. The suggested order of the battle is as follows:

  1. The two orcish warmachines (have the PLD choose which one to kill first)
  2. Darokbok of Clan Reaper (PLD)
  3. Derakbak of Clan Wolf (DRG)
  4. Jagibod of Clan Reaper (RNG)

The BRD or BLM will sleep whichever orcs the party is not actively fighting. Each of the of the normal orcs will use the respective 2-hour ability for his job, so be careful of Eagle Eye Shot on the RNG especially.

Once you have completed the BCNM battle, return to a San d'Oria gate guard to receive your reward of Rank 8, and 60,000 gil.

Soloed this as RDM75/BLU37 using:

Tavnazian Taco
-29% Physical Damage Taken
Duelist's Chapeau

Didn't need Convert. Used Cocoon to get roughly 650 Def and had 80 Vit. Finished with 130 mp from a pool of 680ish. Used Screwdriver for some extra damage on the RNG. Slept the extras as needed. Was very smoooth, only needed to recast stoneskin 5-6 times the entire fight.

Fought in the order of: War Machine -> War Machine -> RNG -> DRG -> PLD

Just knocked this out with my friends.

DRG75, SAM73, BLM63. Basically all you need is a sleeper and you have this fight in the bag. It was easy. SleepgaII from the start then both DD tackled the two warmachines. After that we took out the PLD, then the DRG, and finally the RNG. Though we had to rest to full on the last Orc.

60k and a rank, piece of cake.

All the hype about this, just did it 6 mins 41 seconds, 68 pld 75 drk 75 drg 67 sch 74 smn and 65 rdm. Was easy, never dropped below 70% hp. we ran in drg took both warmachines killing almost instantly, and we did PLD orc, Drg orc, then Rng orc. No poblem at all

I done this mission a few months ago and got to rank 10. I decided to switch to another nation.

Can I still be able to help with this mission?

Duoed this one as 75 BRD and 75 DRG.

It took 5 tries but we finally beat these SOBs. Actually, it was a lot of fun since you don't lose any EXP when you fail just make sure you have Reraise up when you start the fight.

Basically, the strategy involved a buttload of Hi-Potions and both of us with /WHM. I ran in, slept the lot while the DRG went to town on the Warmachines. Then, she killed the PLD, I continued to sleep the rest. Next, was the DRG and we finished with the RNG.

But, I make it sound too simple, while fighting the RNG he used Eagle Eye Shot and nearly killed the DRG. Well, I couldn't fire off a Cure 3 because I hit the wrong macro (started playing "Horde Lullaby") and she didn't use her Healing Breath on time so she died on next attack. I'm like...oh crap...so I slept the RNG and she reraised and took a knee. For the next 7 minutes or so, I'm constantly sleeping the RNG waiting for her to unweaken. Finally, she goes into red...I heal, she heals and we take out the RNG.

We finished with about 2 minutes to spare (28:22 was fight time). My knuckles were white by the end but it was a blast.

I managed to trio this as a 73 BLM/RDM with a 72 PLD/WAR and a 75 DRK/SAM. They are resistant to sleep though. Elemental Seal + Sleepga with dark staff, capped enfeebling, wizard's coat and igqira tiara didn't even last long enough to get rid of the PLD orc. I'm assuming that the fact that it was Lightsday didn't help (We didn't notice til we had won).

I die, reraise, and sleepga the group again. Strangely it lasted longer this time. The DRK soloed a Warmachine, the PLD took on another and I cured as much as I could. Eventually the DRK finishes his mob and helps kill the warmachine. We rested up a bit. The DRG and RNG wake up, I Sleep II the rng. By the time we're done with the DRG and its wyvern I'm unweakened and the three of us proceed to destroy the RNG. Didn't even get Eagle Eye Shot off.

Setup was 75Nin/37Dnc (Me) and 75Drg/37Whm

I put up shadows, used food, Drg buffed us, blah blah. I ran in first to aggro all of the NMs and started fighting a warmachine, he took the other. After they were dead we took down the Pld easily, started on the Drg, Drg/Whm died getting shot by the Rng with low hp and no mp, I killed the Drg, and was lucky enough to have the Rng EES one of my shadows. *waves Tribal* hey **** :p (Shadowthief)

did on Remora recently party setup was:

Pld75/War37
Pld74/War37
Blu75/Nin37 (not positive on this one's sub pretty sure)
Thf63/Nin32
Rdm75/Nin37

Basically strategy was we go in, 2 on each warmachine 1 pld each and 1 dd each, the rdm cast sleep on the extra's and pulled out the Rng. After 1 warmachine went down the two joined up for other warmachine, after it went down we moved to the drg, then to the pld then and by then the rng was basically dead no stressing no 2hours needed nor was convert some damage taken on the pld's but not enough to cause any problems

Done a few days ago on Remora by me (SMN75) Louchris (PLD75) and Dree (BLM73). A few people outside of BCNM laughed at us when I exchanged a couple /tells saying we were going to try trioing this. :)

Buff up and here we go. Started off with an ES sleepga (no sleepga2, but blm is his second job, so no worries). Sleepga held long enough. I pulled a warmachine down with Ramuh. One hit from the paladin, and I Chaotic Striked and it was dead. I had a second of "OMG" shock as I was expecting a longer fight, and then I go back up and we repeat with #2.

After that, orcs woke up. Louchris started fighting the PLD Orc, and I threw Carby on the Wyvern while Dree slept the DRG Orc. I cure Dree until sleep timer is up and RNG Orc was slept next, and when it woke Louchris just took hate and had no problem dealing with dmg from both DRG and RNG Orcs with just the odd cure from me and Dree.

Carby kills Wyvern, Lou kills PLD and we all take out DRG. That leaves RNG Orc. We sleep him one last time, rest up to 50% mp while laughing at him, and then we go to town, taking him out in a few seconds after a Chaotic Strike to make sure Ramuh had hate in case of a EES on Lou. If he had a chance to use it, I didn't notice it.

No problems at all. No 2 Hours/food/potions needed.

Hehe, well,I am on Farie, and my party just did this, was pretty easy, but close. PT setup was 75Drg/Whm, 75Nin/War, 67Sam/War(me), 66Drg/Sam, 60Thf/Nin, and 60Drg/War. The 75Drg/Whm was supposed to kill the warmachine on the right, 75Nin was supposed to get the machine on the left, Sam kill the Drg, Thf Kite the rng and wryven, and the other 2 drg start to kill the pld. Well, the 75drg ran in, and everything agroed, I attacked my Drg, Tachi:Gekko> 2hr> Tachi:Yukikaze> Meditate> Gekko> Yukikaze> Gekko> Dead Drg, me hurting. About that time, the 75 Drg was now dead, the thf had grabbed the wryven and rng, ninja was working over the other warmachine, and the other 2 drgs were working on the PLD. Well, I kill one of the warmachines(Didn't notice which one it was, whichever was almost dead), then Ninja and I killed other, and 60Drg died while killing the other. Killed the PLD, and then waited for the thf to bring back to last 2 mobs. I am about 72HP after getting wailed on for several 150+ hits. (Seigan>Third Eye was almost worthless today, one anticipate and gone.) The 75Drg had Reraise on, and was back up, slightly healed the pt and went to rest MP. Thf came back, rest of us slaughtered the wryven, and attacked the RNG. We were all surprised when the rng didn't use Eagle Eye Shot, so we completely lucked out there.

All in all, I would not advise our stratagie, unless you have another Sam 70+ in the party that might be able to take another mob out fast. PLD and BLM would be a plus, but like us, not nessisary, but makes life alot easier. Either way, it was fun, and thanks to everyone who helped with 7-1 and 7-2 today.

Just duo'd this as 74 NIN/WAR and 74 RDM/BLM. Don't need to have max merits or anything since we didn't even have any because we were only 74. RDM runs up and does ES Sleepga, NIN vokes a Warmachine and RDM just worries about them waking up. I was able to tank each one of them without a problem only got hit once or twice the whole BCNM.

This was one easy fight...
SAM75, RDM75, NIN75, BLM66, THF63...

We absolute owned them. We smashed the clear time on Garuda by two minutes. The ranger NM was one-shotted by a darkness SC at 65% of its health. We then just nuked and meleed the crap out of the other two NMs. The war machines were too weak. Easiest rank BCNM yet ^^ 60k! :D

73PLD/RDM(Spyderxx) and 75NIN/WAR(Luciferxx) Duo. I put up stoneskin and diaga'd all of the orcs, then ran down the hill while the NIN provoked and solod one of the War machines. At the bottom I turned around and ran as fast as I could back up the hill (I didn't take much damage beacuse the rng and pld fell very far behind. I only had minor difficulty passing the DRG and the other War machine. By the time I made it back to the NIN he had killed the one War machine and was heading down to take the other one. After Both war machines were dead we died just before the Orc starting platform so we could reraise and start again full with 3 mobs. I repeated the first process but the NIN took and killed the RNG (EES missed). On my way back up the NIN took the PLD while I kited the DRG (Didn't want Orc&wyvern stripping the NIN's shadows). After PLD went down, NIN provoked the DRG and we both started fighting. When it 2HR'd I flashed and engaged the wyvern to keep it distracted while the NIN finished the DRG. Almost ran out of time, but we did it. Overall very, very much so a pain in the ****, however, possible to duo without sleep.

Very easy BCNM battle. Completed it with the following set up:

75RDM/37NIN
65DRG/WAR
75WHM/BLM
75MNK/NIN

We had assigned the WHM the task of doing an Elemental Seal + Sleepga, while the MNK and DRG focused on one warmachine, and I would kill another. Unforunately, the WHM wasn't in the right mind set at the time, and strolled right into the Orcs standing there before casting Sleepga. I had to quickly cast Sleep and Sleep II on the surrounding Orcs to prevent her from dying -- off to a bad start.

MNK and DRG drop the first warmachine without a problem, and then aid me in destroying the second warmachine. We then move our attention to the PLD, I silence, enfeeble, and we beat him down without any problem. Then we move to the DRG, beat him down easily, kill his Wyvern, then move to the RNG to finish the job. He used Eagle Eye Shot for about 700 damage on our MNK, so be cautious of this one.

The Orcs do not have much HP and are fairly easily slept, this mission is not a problem at all, providing you have some way to sleep the Orcs.

hehe just duo'd this with my friend.

Hector MNK75/NIN37 (me)
Zefie BLM75/WHM37

Went really well, slept them all, killed the Warmachines, then i accidentally auto-targeted the DRG mob...

Zefie did an A Class job of sleeping them all though, just took them down one by one. Only slighty worrying thing was the RNG EESing me with no shadows.... missed though! haha!

Peace.

Edit: Forgot to mention we broke the record with 10mins 31secs (long fight but still technically broke record!)

had the two lower levels kite the war machines then the other lv 75 bst kited the rng and drg while i solo'd pld. PLD went down pretty quick, then i moved on to drg. Same thing but forgot about wyv stayin there after drg dies. After Drg dead me and other lv 75 bst took the Rng, and by that time the lv 56bst died and the lv66 bst started kitin both war machines. Rng went down quick with no 2-hours from any of them. After that we killed the war machines easily. Yay Bsts! WDIP FTW!!!

Did this earlier today 2x
1st set up was
66pld/war me
72rdm/blm
68blm/whm
66rdm/whm
75brd/whm
74thf/nin
First time we went in someone had told us that the warmachines wouldnt sleep but they did the blm didnt have sleepga 1 or 2 (wtf?) so we used horde lullaby and he just used regular sleep on any that woke up i tanked it just fine used taco's the ees hit me for around 278, other then that all damage was under 100 except for drg got a crit for a lil under 200 ok next round my friend smurfnibble got there and there were left overs who needed it to set up was
66/war me
72rdm/blm
71whm/blm
75brd/whm
62rng/nin
68drg/war
Things didn't go so well the rdm wanted to try to solo the pld mob i was like umm sure. This was a mistake because we were all left without refresh and the mobs kept waking up without the rdm there to keep mp up and sleep w/e else woke up it was sorta hard the drg was jp he didn't listin to thing i said charged right on in attacked the rng and just about got one shotted by ees. so we were fighting 4 mobs with 4 ppl we still finished up the war machines first then did the rng then the rdm came back i thought he had finished off the pld but after we killed the rng the pld charged back into the fight which scarred me but we just went and killed him then moved onto the drg and it was over pretty fun in the end oh the drg had to eat a r1 for being stupid

Hmm...

all posts say that a Pld's tanked that bcnm.

What about Nin's?

Can't they tank it well?

I am Pld61 and Nin64 because of the 3lvl (4 or more when I try to get this done)I would like to do it as Nin.

Is that possible or would it just make things harder to beat?

Just did this tonight.. PT Setup

74 PLD/WAR
64 WHM/SMN (Me)
62 DRG/WAR
61 SAM/WAR
61 RDM/BLM (hence no Sleepga)
61 DRK/WAR

WE did it with NO Sleepga, the rdm slept what he could and they all ran after him quickly killing him, from there the drk slept the orcs he could as we brought down the war machines.. then picked the orcs off one by one pld>> drg>> rng after the pld and drg orcs were down the rng was still asleep from the drk, I bened the pt and rested the rdm used instant reaise scroll and we killed the rng, drg died from ees but other then that he was no prob, over all it was one scary fight but if you are good like us sleepga is not NEEDED but we woulda owned them with it.

Well, we just tried this last night with:

61DRK/THF (Me)
63MNK/WAR
73BLM/WHM
62WHM/BLM
62SAM/WAR
63PLD/WAR

we though we would have it in the bad, but unfourtunatley we were sadly mistaken... the BLM didnt have sleepga II ( >< wich is why we lost I belive) an when sleepga wore they would all go after him... Making it so he couldnt cast sleepga again

I honestly suggest BRD over BLM on this mission, due to the fact that lullaby cannot be inturpted

Finished the mission last night.

The party setup was:
BLM 58, DRG 69, MNK 63, PLD 66, WHM 75, RDM 65

Me(PLD), RDM, and BLM tried the nite before with different ppl, but the BLM didnt have Sleepga II. It didnt have any for sale at AH at that day. But we decided to give a try. Didnt work. Mobs wake up, before we killed the first machine. The BLM and RDM, put than to sleep again. and woke up right after. and about to kill the second machine i died, the second war machine went down, so did everyone else in the party. ><

Yesterday (sleepga II version), to start ES + Sleepga II, put everyone to sleep for a very good time (and yes you can sleep the machines)
We almost killed the second machine before anyone woke up. Then they went back to sleep.

Everytime the mobs go to sleep, the non-tank ppl should voke, the mobs sleeping, attention i said voke, not hit. This way they wont go crazy after the BLM as they wake up

We took the DRG orc first, then PLD, then RNG.

And the fight went smooth, until the mnk got the hate from the PLD orc, the main focus of the RDM was to keep the orcs sleeping so no refresh for me >< monk died, orc pld died.

WHM raises monk, and then on the orc RNG, i 2hr it just to keep the hate.
Its a good idea for the tank to take some yagudo drink for refresh...

Good Luck

Just finished this tonight. Our setup was
65 whm/smn (me)
71 Pld/war
58 Drk/thf
60 Rng/nin
60 Rng/war
63 Rdm/blm

I protected/shelled/aerial armor before we went in. Everyone ate their food and rested til full. Fight went very smooth. Rdm was great at keeping the mobs slept. Pld and rngs started with machines first. Then we did the orcs. No one's health went into the orange once. I was a bit worried going into the fight without a blm but the fight went very smooth. The orcs/machines aren't tough. They went down pretty quickly.

About who can help- i believe the guide is partially wrong here. You can help if you fall under one of these categories:

You are on this mission (sandorian, rank 7, on mission 7-2)

You already did this mission (sandorian, rank 8+)

You are of another nationality, but were sandorian before and did get rank 8 before for sandoria.

The thrid item i am almost totally absolutely positive about, and will test eventually, after I get rank 10 and decide to change allegiance.

Did this with Grim, who is a PRO at this battle. And so am I and Elets as well lol.

Trial 1: Lineup= Pld 61, Sam 61, Sam 61-63 (i forgot ^^;), Blm 61-65, Rdm 61-63, Whm 65+-2

This was sloppy, but that's 'cause most of our first time. Blm goes in, ES+Sleepga 2 on Pally orc (he can get to the edge, and be in casting range, without getting aggro!), which sleeps them all. If pally resists, and he may, Rdm or secondary sleeper, or, single blm, can get the stray. Melee waits to rush in AFTER they know everything's asleep (don't wanna break up the crowd, making -ga spells possibly miss). Melee enters, pally picks a war machine (the one on the right is preferred). At this point, myself and the other sam have been building up 300% tp before entering the BC. TP does carry over through the burning circle! The war machines are very weak, two tachi: yukikazes @ 300% TP took them down past 50% hp. Some more hits and 2 meditates+ WS wrecked the first one.

At this point the other mobs were waking up, and the mages kept 'em slept. Important note, crucial to success: Have faith in your comerades, that they will be able to do their job. If something wakes up and starts pounding on you, don't attack it, leave it alone so you don't take off sleep that might be getting cast on them.

Pally and sams picked off the other warmachine, while blm and rdm kept sleeping, and then came the paladin orc. Here's why you don't leave the paladin orc for last: He can cast cure on the other mobs (thus waking them) and he resists sleep. A lot. Hes really the only hard and dangerous orc to fight, so long as your party works very well.

How to kill the paladin- hack away at him, stop using WS on him from 70%-40% hp, which is when he will use his 2Hr sometimes in that HP range. It only lasts 30 seconds or so, and after it wears off, melee can commense beating on him. Orc goes down, and at this point, mages are probably low on MP, paladin's is probably empty, and if blm has only been sleeping he'll have about 50% left. You're presented with several options. Rest and have blm sleep the reamining two mobs, or, pick off the dragoon, or pick off the ranger. We rested every time we did this, and we always had success. For us, it seemd the best way was to kill the ranger (paladin can use invincible for rng's 2-hr, which usually activates near 50% mob hp, but we found, with lv 65+ pallies with earth staves, that they took 400 points or less from EES), and then tackles the dragoon. The dragoon's jump really hurt my sam friend, he got down to 9 HP from one lol. Let the meat shield keep the hate on this bad boy, it isn't worth dieing. Blm, keep your cool, don't chainspell just yet. Wait for him to pull out his wyvern. Then sleep it. THEN nuke like ****. You've earned it ^^.

I imagine you can probably do these in any order you wish, as long as you keep the others slept. The only thing that will really kill you here is an uncooperative team. Listen well to your leader and you'll own this battle.

I kept myself and the other sam buffed with pear-au-laits (courtesy of Dreamwalkz) and we also buffed with Tonosoma Riceballs, and whm had arial armor on us. Whm cured pally, rdm cured blm. blm and rdm aquveil, stoneskin, blink, etc, after every sleep. For more details on mage strategy, refer to Grims's post.

And THANK YOU grim, without you, we'd still be rank 7. Thanks also to ****, elets, and arag, you guys are great.

cheers

Check this out.... here's the line up, i might get a number or 2 wrong:
65whm/smn (me)
69pld/war
66pld/war
71rng/nin
65whm/blm
61whm/smn
68thf/nin
55nin/war
64sam/war
59drk/war (will leave name out... hehe he'll know why)

anyhow, with no refreshing (BRD or RDM), we had to put 2 WHM's in. 1 WHM kept eye on the BLM due to Sleepaga hate, and 2nd WHM kept eye on tank. we had that WHM also Sleep any strays. well, first fight, was PLD, RNG, WHM, WHM, BLM and SAM. we all died. myself (whm) and the blm died 2 times, due to reraise. well, we learned...

have the BLM go ahead of PLD, and ES+Sleepaga 2 the middle orc. our BLM didn't even need the Elemental Seal. then, everyone runs to BACK of the circle, and pulls first warmachine. here's the key thing to keep your BLM alive! (i raised him x2 times over course of 5 battles). at ALL times, BLM and his healing WHM keep stoneskin, aquaveil, and blink on. no exception. do that before resting. when the 3 orcs and 1 warmachine wake up, he should already have Sleepaga waiting to hit them. WHM, start your first cure on the BLM before you notice his blink and SS wore off. now, the melees....

always follow your PLD. if uncertain of which one to attack, just be patient, then slug the one with Red Name that he's on. if only pulling 1 at a time, while rest sleep, both WHM's stay pretty healthy for along time.
Props go out to Nrg (blm), Glitterngld (whm) and.... um.... **** if i don't remember his name... lol taru WHM, 65, he knows who he is.

RNG orc.... he's gonna use eagle eye shot, but don't sweat it. he won't use it til you're actually attacking him. it's not random. always keep your tank at full health during entire fight against the RNG. one time he hit our PLD for 200 DMG with it, another 750. just hard to tel. 69PLD and 66PLD swapped in and out, by the way.
Props to Dregg (pld) and Mena (pld)

What level should you be: we had a 55Nin in the party. however, he hit about 1/10 of the time. if you choose to let a friend in, that's cool... but be prepared to have a 5 man party essentially. doesn't matter what job you're using *besides mages*.... no tank/DD can do much as level 58 and less. our 66 and 69 tanks did awesome jobs of tanking.

Rangers in the party: we had 71 rng/nin. our first fight, when we all died, he was basically taking on the Orc RNG (or was it a machine?). he was truley taking one out from a distance, since it wasn't meleeing our RNG. tried to shoot our own ranger from a distance, to no avail. simply keep your RNG cured, and he can do EXTREME damage for ya. *PLD's, use cover*
Props to Ricochet (RNG)

That's the jist of it. If you have 10 people, like we had, send in your top 6 level/jobs the first time. keep the alliance up, so they can read (not talk) during battle. after battle, reform your second party. if it makes sense to ONLY take in 1 of your lower levels, do that. don't swap out 2 kick @ss DD's for 2 lower levels. lower levels will simply miss. after your first successful run, it goes very very fast. take in new member, do battle. take in another new member, do battle. take your time, and do NOT leave peeps without finishing it. nothing like taking ALL the time to make party/alliance, do 7-1, wait 1 hour outside the BCNM, and then everyone "gets sleepy". Comradre.... it's good for the soul!

Last thing. we did this without a RDM, and without a BRD. we had 5 successful runs. refresh is NOT mandatory if 2 WHM's. when our WHM MP got low (i had 780 max, the taru had 834), we simply kept mobs slept. rest. gives the PLD time to rest MP for his flash, as well. again, just take your time, and enjoy Rank 8, prestige, power, pride... and ok, 60K ^^

Total pawnage of this mission, was funniest one i have done.

Setup: 67 rdm (me), 74 mnk, 61 drg, 64 pld, 62 drk.

Only 2 2hrs were used, mnk and pld.

As you can see no blm was in this setup. Why did this work cause rdm/blm ( ME) was total bad-@$$. put them all to sleep and let it rip. I kept them alseep and refreshed while they were. and sticking with strat. of killin war machines first. then killing orcs next.

Clear Time: 8 min

Other than a blm, a rdm is also a must because they specialized on enfeebling magic (Sleep) and also convert is needed when you are down to 3 or maybe 2 orcs. Plus refresh wouldn't hurt, with this said we did this mission twice, first time we all died because we were all nervous lol. Second time we were more calm and relax and everything went smooth. Big ups to everyone who helped me on this mission.

Spent 8 hours with a party doing this (switching out ppl). 4 failures, 4 successes.

This is what you need:
People who can SLEEP a group of ppl and ppl who can provoke. A 2nd sleeper is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED even if its an RDM with sleep 2. Melee dmg highly recommended. Your BLM will most likely be busy staying alive and sleeping mobs.

As BLM 62, I went in, and ES'd + sleepga II'd everything, even the warmachines. The warmachines typically resist sleep even more than the PLD. Then I pulled ONE warmachine. It dies. Then another, it also does. Meanwhile, the NON TANKING melee keep voking the sleeping mobs to keep hate off the sleeper. As BLM, do not nuke any of the warmachines. Let your melee do the work. You need 100% attn on the orcs to keep them sleeping. Frankly 3 melee and a whm curing is enough. The other 2 can keep the other 3 sleeping.

Once down to 3 the 3 orcs, if they are asleep, REST. If not, sleep them, and REST. Then kill the PLD. All melee should voke on all the remaining mobs to keep hate off the sleepers. BLMs should remember to ASPIR the PLD to maintain some steady flow of MP. Once the PLD is dead, REST. Really, I mean it. Since you are down to 2 mobs, one sleeper is enough, 2 if both have MP. Once rested, kill the DRG then its wyvern. One person is required to keep the last mob sleeping.

Once the DRG and Wyvern is dead. Keep the RNG slept. You will need the WHM to be full and PLD to be full (HP) for the RNG due to 2hr. Then, nuke away. The RNG dies fast.

Another novel way to take hate is stun, and SA\TA (on the pld) while the mob is sleeping. SA\TA is also a nice way to wake a mob up when you are ready to battle.

Summary: Sleepers required. Melee must provoke on the sleeping mobs to take off hate.

Lineup: 67PLD/WAR (me), 64RNG/NIN, 61SAM/WAR, 67BLM/WHM, 62BLM/WHM, 66WHM/SMN
Items: Yagudo drinks (we had no rdm)
Mob Order: Machine, Machine, PLD, DRG, wyvern, RNG
Clear time: 9mins+

How we did it:

Used all regular exp buffs outside of the BCNM and then entered. We ran up the path w/ the strongest BLM in the lead and the pt stopped right as the orcs were in spell-range. The party waited for BLM to cast elemental seal + Sleepga II, putting ALL of the mobs asleep in one fell swoop. Secondary blackmage had sleepga or sleep rdy in case of resists.

Paladin (me) charged in and immediately engaged one of the machines. The BLMs stood on the periphery nuking sparingly while keeping an eye on the mobs w/ sleep rdy. WHM stood on the side and just healed. The mobs in this fight all have very little hp and felt like EP-DC to me at level 67. Dispatching both machines to start should be no problem at all, afterwards, just follow the order outlined above.

So you're wondering why go after the PLD before the damage dealers? B/C PLD's innate abilities are resist sleep, so to be safe, you want to get rid of him first. Also he will cure the other mobs if you give him a chance. Meanwhile, the DRG and RNG will sleep like babies as long as you have both BLMs rdy w/ sleep II or sleepga at all times.

The only things to watch out for after you've killed the PLD are:

1) The DRG will call it's wyvern, so don't forget to kill it. It has very few hp and doesn't do much damage.

2) DRG will use Jump, and it does significant damage, about 200-300 to me.

3) Have blms rdy w/ stun and paladin rdy w/ flash when RNG uses it's 2hour Eagle Eye shot... we got a little lucky as our pt's RNG hit sidewinder right as the orc was rdying it's 2-hour, pulling aggro off of me. RNG had utsusemi on so his shadows absorbed what would probably have been 600-800 damage. A paladin of sufficient level should be able to eat up Eagle Eye shot with no problems tho.

4) If you begin to run short on MP, don't hesitate to rest while the mobs sleep. We sat for about a minute before the RNG finally woke up. Remember to tell your BLMs to save MP for sleep and to not over-nuke.

Important
The only thing that can get you killed in this battle is if the mobs wake up and gang up on you. So best is to bring 2 ppl who can sleep effectively (brd, blm, sub blm) and have them conserve mp and keep watch over the mobs. The person with the least chance of being resisted should be primary sleeper, and the other should backup them up as insurance. If you can keep the mobs asleep, victory is all but assured.

After the battle, head back to San d'Oria and talk to the gate guard for your rank promotion and gil :P

Whose idea was it to have a BCNM fight (7-2)after an alliance fight (7-1)? Naturally everybody who did 7-1 wanted to do 7-2 as well, so we had to split up and make different teams. The only problem was we only had 1 PLD, 1 WHM, and 1 BLM. So we had to make 3 runs of this battle. >< Let me tell you how each one went:

Battle #1 Massacre, but Ultimately Victorious

Team: PLD 60 (me), WHM 62, BLM 66, WAR 65, DRG 60+, SMN 65

We got all buffed (Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Blink) and entered the circle. Then Fenrir added his last buff and we charged up the hill, but not too far. Then I went and got aggro from all 5 and ran back to camp. Our camp was too far away. No need to go much farther back than the outside of the circle. I was down to about 150 HP when I got back. But WHM healed me (and got aggro for later, which caused serious problems), BLM started casting Sleepga II, and I grabbed a War Machine and pulled it out. The other machine didn't want to stay asleep long, though. But luckily the first went down easily, then the second. We were starting to run a little low on MP, though. No BRD or RDM, and forgot to bring juices. So we started out first on the RNG... or at least a few of us did. But they all woke up and went after different people, but mainly the WHM, who went down pretty quickly. Things unravelled quickly from there. We all died, but luckily the WHM had Reraise cast on him, so he Raised himself and started Raise IIing the rest of us once the Orcs went back into the circle. This took a while and none of us knew how much time we had left. (Note: have someone keep track of time). So, we all got Raised and unweakened and were ready to kill the last 3 orcs. Someone had thought of trying to carbuncle pull one of them at a time, so we thought we'd give that a try. Didn't work. But the BLM Sleepga IIed them all and we went to work onthe RNG, who went down quickly, and luckily w/o using Eagle Eye Shot. So then we started in on the DRG and things got a little hairy when he pulled out his Wyvern, who started whaling on the WHM, who died again, poor guy. But we managed the rest w/o him and finally killed the last 2. The PLD used Invincible, we had to wait it out because the BLM was out of MP and had already used Manafont. We were getting pretty nervous, wondering how much time we had left, but we killed him and got the cutscene. Completion time: 29 minutes, 6 seconds!!!

Battle #2 Eagle Eye Shot, and Taking One for the Team

Team: PLD 60, WHM 62, BRD 75, SAM 62, THF 62, SMN 65

Luckily, we found a BRD 75 who needed this mission done, too, so the BLM could go to bed. Things went much more smoothly this time, but not without a hitch. This time the RNG decided to use Eagle Eye Shot. Fortunately for me, but not so for the SAM, our Samurai had decided to use a WS and did quite a bit of damage pretty early in the fight, and he got hate and the RNG decided to kill him. Bam! our SAM is out cold. But we remained calm and disposed of all three orcs in turn. Later the SAM said he was glad he did it, because it kept me alive to tank the rest of the battle. But Eagle Eye Shot is a good reason to save the RNG for last or next to last, because if he uses it, it's likely someone will go down. Completion time: 17 minutes.

Battle #3 Smooth as Silk.

Team: PLD 60, WHM 62, BRD 75, SAM 62, DRK 63, SMN 65

By this time, we were seasoned veterans at this and it went without any trouble. The Orcs remained slept, nobody went nuts on the damage, and the RNG didn't use Eagle Eye Shot. Completion time: 11 minutes.

I dont really see why you would want to kill the PLD first? Doesnt it make more sense to kill the dangerous ones first?

Did this with a mixed group of level 61-65. We had a War, Brd, Whm, Blm, Rng, and Pld. The fight was pretty easy actually since blm sleepaga 2 works wonders and ranger damage is amazing. We chose to kill the paladin last since we didn't want to waste time when it used its 2 hour or deal with the high defense. So after the warmachines, we picked off the ranger first and then the dragoon and then the paladin.
