Mission Orders

Royaulais Destin himself has summoned you for a vital mission. Seek audience with His Majesty in Chateau d'Oraguille immediately.

Walkthrough

Note: You must wait to start this mission until AFTER you have seen the long cut scene following the completion of Mission 8-1. This is done by turning the key item into Halver, waiting until midnight JST, then zoning into Northern San d'Oria. Once you have seen this cut scene, you should be able to get this mission from the gate guard. Also, since this mission is not a BC, anyone can come along and help you. They don't have to be on this mission, or even from San d'Oria.

After getting the mission from the gate guard go talk to the King then go to the Knights' Quarters (upon entering the castle turn left and go through he door) and talk to Rahal. Rahal should give you a key item: the Crystal Dowser. You now need to go to Temple of Uggalepih, off of Yhoator Jungle. You will only need Invisible for the entire zone, although if you are 70+, you will not get aggro through most of the area (check the mobs frequently to know when you need to Invis).

The first part requires you to get a Prelate Key (Rare/Ex and one use only) which are dropped by Tonberry Stabbers. This key allows you to enter the door for part 2. To get the key you go left upon zoning into the Temple and go through the granite door. Go north, then east, then north, following the corridor until your reach the stairs and zone out to Yhoator Jungle. From here on go straight then make a right turn followed by another right and go straight until you zone again. You're now back into the Temple with a staircase leading down and right, camp here and look for Tonberry Stabbers. The key is not a rare drop, but certainly doesn't drop on every kill, either, so bringing a thief is recommended. Once you get the key, cast Escape to get back to the front door (it's quicker). Alternatively, you can just backtrack and return to the main entrance.

The second part requires you to backtrack to the entrance. Once you enter the Temple through the main entrance at (J-11) of Yhoator Jungle, take the path leading right and keep going right until you zone out to another section of Yhoator. Turn left, keep going and you'll zone into the Temple. If you run into a wooden gate, you know you're heading the right way. Continue south (around a couple of circular rooms that look like splits in the road, but aren't in reality) until you come to a T-intersection at (H-10). Turn left and you will meet the Temple Guardian. It is a doll mob, so Barfira and/or Stun are recommended, as it will Meltdown and do a lot of damage, but other than that it's very easy. Once it is dead, the door will open leading to a room with four sets of staircases. Also in this room is the Manipulator, that aggros only to magic. He circles the perimeter of the room, which is also inhabited by a lot of Tonberries. If you have brought the recommended party you should be able to take out the Manipulator easily, but he's still tough, especially with links. There is, however, no real reason to kill the Manipulator for this quest unless you just feel like it.

There is a door right above where you first enter this room so run up the staircase directly above you, not the one on the other side. Trade the Prelate Key to enter (Note: it is a one-time-use key); the door can be re-opened from the inside. Once in, keep going and when you reach a fork in the road turn left. You should now see four doors. This is where the boss fight is.

Clear the hallway of all Tonberries and Magic Jars. Doors 1 (farthest down), 2, and 4 (closest to you) is where you need to go into and click on the ??? to receive three fragments of a broken key. In room #1, there are two ???. The first ??? will mention something about the Crystal Dowser, but will not give you a key item. There is another ??? in the same room (all the correct ??? are on bookcases) that will give you a key item. Once you have all three key items, DO NOT click on door number 3 until you are ready to fight the NM's.

When you have the fragments and are ready, touch door 3. Nio-Hum and Nio-A will pop. After killing them, click on door #3 to get a cut scene, but no key item. You will get a message saying "Your Investigation is Over." This is your cue to return to Chateau d'Oraguille. Go to the Audience chamber and the king will grant you your reward (Rank 9 and 80,000 gil).

Soloable by 75 MNK/NIN with healer npc

I just finished soloing this fight as 75 MNK/NIN with some assistance from my lvl 57 soothing healer npc. For some reason my npc was bieng stubborn and didn't want to haste me so i started without it. After clearing the pot on the western stairs and the 2 closest tonberries, i rested back to full then used the sneak pop trick to get one of them. I was using an evade heavy gear setup (+48 eva, +7 evade skill) but he still had pretty good accuracy. Once he got to about 48%, i popped Dodge and Hundred Fists. With dodge up he couldn't break my shadows before the timers were down so his Mighty Strikes wasn't a problem (He used it about 10 seconds after i used Hundred Fists). By the time fists wore, he was already down to about 10%. My npc ended up using Cure III on me twice and Cure IV once. Not very difficult, most of my damage came from him sleeping me with Khastrahl and hitting me to wake me up. The only potential problem i could forsee is if he uses Gravity Field early in the fight when you don't have haste up. Ended the fight with 1k+ hp.

Edit: I tried this fight solo before on RDM/NIN, but he has a lot of defence so I could only get him to around 15% before the Hoover Tank repopped and aggroed me. I couldn't get enfeebles to land on him (though i wasn't swapping to +skill gear), and he not once missed me on RDM lol. Lots of shadow casting ; ;

Finished 8-1 the previous night, so our LS decided to do this mission. Setup was:

Pld69/War34 (Tyreewere - Me)
Whm69/Blm34 (Meowphttphtt)
Blm70/Whm35 (Shigaru)
Bst75/Whm37 (Fireman)
Sam73/Thf36 (Azimov)
War75/Nin37 (Brondolfr)

Farmed the Prelate key the night before with little problem, got a quick drop. Teleport Yhoat and walked to Temple. First section no aggro at all, even to me and Meow @69. (conned Ep -) Got to the second section and basically killed everything in our way. (We hate using powders and oils if we can get quick kills :p) Worked our way into the room with the stairs. Meow cast Invis on herself, forgetting that dolls aggro magic. She starts getting hit, so I jumped in and did my tank thing. Naturally, we aggro most of the room. LOL Shig hit Sleepga II and we went to work. Fire would solo one tonberry, Azi and Brond duoed another while I kept the doll busy. It gave me a chance to play with the new updates on Sentinel and Rampart anyway. :) In 5 minutes, we had the entire room empty, and no one was ever in any trouble. We climb the stairs and med up. Fire tells us "Good job on the NM!" I thought, "What NM?" It was only then that I realized we damned near duoed the Manipulator, with Meow's expert help, at lv 69 no less! O.O

So we rest up, get the 3 key items, then Fire sneak pops Nio-A. We engage and get it down to 1/2 HP when I notice we hadn't backed far enough away from Nio-Hum. Oh well. hehehe Fire turned and kept it busy with his Carrie while we finished Nio-A off. We then turned and dusted Nio-Hum with no trouble. Got the CS, went back to Sandi, and we're all now Rank 9! Gotta love having a great group of friends you can trust and count on. Now, off to try out 9-1...

Did this tonight.

Tank was snuck; then he spawned mobs. Neither noticed him. Puller then pulled Nio-A and after that fight was done, Nio-hum had despawned. Everyone got CS and mission over.

lvl 70 MNK/WAR
lvl 70 DRK/?

Trio'd this fight tonight. 75nin/war, 72nin/war(me) and 74whm/smn. Cleared the hall of all mobs, then popped the NMs. We didn't know what to expect really... I took the weaker one, the other nin took the stronger one, and we just solo'd our respective dolls. The resisted all enfeebles, which made it a bit tougher. They attack pretty fast, but dont hit too hard (about 100-150 per hit). We came close to death a few times due to typhoon knocking down the other nin's shadows, and due to me not having access to my level 75 haste gear (caught with 2-4 seconds left on utsu recast.

WHM used 2 yag drinks, but was very low on MP for about the last 1/4 of the fight because of spamming flash for us, and curing. Tonberry's respawned just as we finished up, meaning the fight took roughly 15 minutes. It would have been nice to have another mage and maybe another melee or 2... but a fun fight either way.

Neither NM used meltdown, fortunately. To anybody wanting to try this: I used mamush*to x2 in hopes that it'd help me out, but it didn't proc once. Stick with Senj/Fudo, or whatever your DD setup is.
Easier then it sounds
# Jul 15 2006 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
Okay everyone makes this sound ALOT harder then it actually is
Me as 66drg/rdm and my bf as 67nin/war duoed for prelate key about a week ahead of time. the key dropped within 30 minutes, and we were going to get another one, but everyone's grudge killed me for about 900ish dmg.
anyways
Our problem was first getting there, lol no one had a map
after getting there we cleared hall, and had some problems getting ppl in party to understand that you check the ???s for keys but thats alright...
then we had mages rest full and went over strategy
Set Up(All linkshell members who have done missions together before):
Drg66/rdm33(me)
Nin67/war33
Pld68/war34
Whm64/smn32
Drg71/whm35
Mnk73/war36
Rdm72/blm36

Well our strategy was simple, we came from east stairs so we killed the pot on west stairs and decided to pull NMs to there. The ninja would kite one NM with gravity stuck while the rest of us killed the other. Now we didnt get much info before so the first one fought was "whichever one the pld voked"

Pld tanked the one we all fought. We fought Nio-Hum first. Nio-Hum hit the Pld for about 100 dmg average. Not bad at all. He did well thro Nio-Hum's Mighty Strikes, and at this time the Whm was depleted down to about 150 mp and the rdm at about 300 mp(not sure if convert was used yet). Nio-Hum didnt even use meltdown in the end. I truthfully don't remember dmgs from normal hits and skill chains. But the other drg and I did in fact use healing breaths often enough.

Luckily, we brought Nio-Hum down when the tonberries started repopping in the hall so the Nin wasnt kiting Nio-A on the tight staircase for that long. The Nin did fine kiting and the Rdm only had to cast Gravity twice. I'm not positive but i dont think the Rdm used Elemental Seal Gravity. The Nin got hit for around 100-120 with -11% dmg gear while kiting but his hp never fell below white. He was only cured twice. Nin didn't use any debuffs, and still said Nio-A's accuracy was awful. Compared to that of a DC mob. He had an easy time kiting, and only became somewhat difficult in the end when tonberries began repoping.

Nio-A although being the easier one as i discovered later, is the one that gave us trouble, being at low mp. The Pld started tanking then Nio-A used Mighty Strikes so i told him to let Nin tank so whm could get mp back up, because Pld's hp was falling fast. Well, Nio-A brought the Nin's shadows down and the Nin fell, in two quick hits. So, things looking just a little sticky, Pld used invicible and Mnk used hundred fists, and Nio-A fell quickly afterwards.

Everyone got cs and we just used teleport-altep after when tonberries aggroed us cause we were lazy.

Not overly hard

Just completed this mission with the following setup:

75RDM/37NIN
75MNK/19NIN
65DRG/32WAR
75WHM/36BLM

We knew this could be a problem since there was 2 mobs and they basically resist all enfeebles. Make sure you clear the room of all Tonberries/nearly Hover Tanks before doing this. The Tonberries are also on a fairly low respawn timer so don't take too long to get ready.

First fight we did pretty poorly, we did not arrange any strategy. Tanking links as an RDM/NIN is never easy if the mob cannot be enfeebled. MNK 100 fists on Nio-Hum and pulls hate, I keep Nio-A busy. Nio-Hum drops to 50% and uses Mighty Strikes, critting the MNK each time for 250+ damage. WHM can't keep up and eventually MNK dies, and I have both mobs on me. I chainspell Utsusemi for as much as I can, we get Nio-Hum down to about 4% before I die, and the DRG and WHM are then killed.

WHM RRs, we get up and try it again. This time I agreed I would tank Nio-Hum (the stronger one) while the MNK and DRG focused on Nio-A with the WHM healing them. This actually worked great, even when no one had 2hrs. Nio-Hum luckily is not too fast, so I was able to keep Utsusemi up most of the time. Recasting Stoneskin in between so it doesn't drop later also helps. Eventually Nio-A drops. WHM is low on MP, and things start repopping. Eventually we get a Tonberry and a Hover tank on us, I sleep both of them, WHM benedictions (Nio-Hum does not go after her), and we successfully defeat it. We check the door for our cutscene, then Escape out.

This mission is not very hard, but splitting your numbers and having a tank, either being: NIN, PLD, RDM or a good Monk distracting one proves to be an effective tactic for winning this fight with a small group.

The guide above only mentions Tonberry Stabbers as mobs that drop the prelate key. There are very few of those to choose from to make for efficient key hunting. The key drops from greenies in the den of rancor too; Tonberry Slashers (also NIN). This is how I got my key 2 times so far, once for Carbuncle Mitts and last night again for 8-2.

As posted many times already, you can skip the key and just try to get magic aggro to get the door open. I've had that trick take 5 minutes and I've had it take 30 minutes. I prefer to get a key when I am not in a rush, since I can XP off of the slashers in the den while I get it.

Here are the mobs that drop the key : CLICK :

Well, I finally got the invite to do Mission 8-2. We took advantage of the pot aggro at the prelate key door and got in fine (so unlike others, we didn't spend hours waiting for the drop). When we got to the room with the NMs we made sure to clear all the tonberries. Collected the broken keys and were ready to fight. After MP was built up we were debating on whether to wait for the repops and kill them real quick or not and eventually just decided to fight. Well, halfway through the battle the tonberries repopped and the fight started looking really bad. We eventually managed to kill off the two NMs with only one death, but the links/aggro killed everyone else off >< Only person with reraise was pld. He couldn't safely raise anyone due to the tonberries so he had to kill them one at a time. Before all the deaths, a couple managed to get the CS. The rest were laying dead hoping to still get CS, When I was raised, I checked and got CS! 5 mins later, WHM checked and popped NMs and died. Very ugly and long fight, and many couldn't finish the mission. I was very fortunate, thanks to all that stuck around after all the deaths to help me finish the mission!

The worst part about all this is the whm that organized this thing didn't get the CS to finish it, better luck next time :/

put 1 tank and a DD on Nio-A and just keep him occupied. he didn't do anything amazing other than spam Berserk.

everyone else should worry about Nio-Hum, he's stronger. He loves to blow up and he got to get as much HP shaved off as possible.

Once Nio-Hum is gone, Nio-A will go quickly.

*Important note:

On the map in that final corridor this is what it looks like:

[West Side][--------Passageway-------][East Side]
Door1 Door2 Door3 Door4

Door 1, 3, and 4 have the Key Items you need.
*Door 4 has two ??? inside - the correct one gives the Key Item.
Door 2 spawns the 2 NM dolls once you have all 3 Key Items.

(we had a few people complain that they didn't get the cutscene after defeating the dolls. They clicked the wrong ??? in Door4. All they have to do is click the right one for the key item, and touch Door2 to get the cutscene)

Can any one confirm that skipping the Prelate key as Arislan suggests still works after 3-Oct-04? I was told in mid November that this "feature" of pulling the mob through the door was fixed and does not work any more. The person said that you can pull the mob through, but the door does not open..

Ok, I will answer my own question. Yes, getting the door to open without a Prelate key works. You need to "aggro pull" the mob from the door opposite the door you came in on (past the Temple Guardian)

Did this last night with 8 people, a 75 nin/drk, 75 nin/war, 73 blm/whm, and the rest of us were 68. drg/war, pld/war, whm/smn, rdm/blm, and drk/thf.

Much easier than expected actually. What we did was get the nin/drk to solo one while we all took the other one. Had the two dolls separated to avoid AOE damage, and the mages in the middle of the hall in between the two fights to have access to cure/nuke without drawing hover tank aggro. nin/drk tanked with blinking and stun, while the drk/thf and blm were on stun watch of the one we were killing.

Whittled one down, went after the other, killed it without much problems, and got the rank :D

By far the hardest thing about this mission is trying to get the Prelate Key to drop from those stingy Tonberries...

So skip the key!!

The guy two posts down is right when he said that you can easily get that door open by aggroing mobs behind it and having them open the door for you. Here's how to do it:

1) After killing the Temple Guardian and entering the big room, invis any party members under 71 and run up the stairs across from you and assemble the entire party on the landing right next to the Granite Door that you need the prelate key for.

2) Kill the Manipulator NM if it's around and maybe you'll even get the Hard Shield. If it's not around, don't worry about it, but if it is, kill it so it won't aggro you as you try to enter the door.

3) When the area is secure and you won't get any adds from the room behind you, stand in front of the door and try to target mobs behind it. If you can't get anything at first, don't worry, b/c both tonberries and mobs behind the door will come near you as they patrol around.

Once you get something targeted, pull it with magic or an ability and the mob should come rushing through the door, swingining it wide open for you.

5) Have the entire alliance run through the door and then kill any mobs you need to once inside.

After you're in, it's just a simple matter of getting to the NM spawn and completing the quest as detailed above.

Just to give a bit of perspective on how much damage these things deal- their AoE "Typhoon" 1-shot me onto the cement as a 64 BLM. Approximately 800 damage, and it did it within seconds of starting the battle. Luckily the window of opportunity to click the door and finish the mission after they're dead is a decent amount; At least a minute or two. The rest of the alliance managed to finish these things off, raise 3 people including me, and we all clicked on the door to finish the mission.

Well, we tried again to get Rank 9, here's how it went down:

This time we went with more people, with higher levels. 15 ppl, 3 70+ (BRD, and 2 RDMs). We didn't have a prelate key, so one party went early to start looking for one. A couple of hours later, the rest of us had gathered together, but still no key. We headed that way anyways and when we got there, decided to try something we'd read about on another site. There's another door across the room from the Prelate Key door that leads to the same place. Supposedly, you can get aggro from a Hover Tank behind the door, and it will open it, allowing everyone to slip in. Well, it works. The Hover Tank was aggroed, and everyone got in. But guess who else came in? The Manipulator. But not only do we have a Tank and the Manipulator on us, another Tank joins in the fun, and brings all his Tonberry friends. We killed the Manipulator and the Tonberries and when just 2 of us were left, the last Tank just decided to leave. Luckily (or perhaps unluckily) one of the high level RDMs had Reraise on, and he Raised a WHM, who started Raise IIing people. But there was a Tonberry around, who killed those who were alive again. Someone else also had reraise on, so we tried it again, this time successfully, watching out for Tonberries. After a while, everybody was alive and ready to go. So we get to the hallway and start clearing it out. A couple of people were with us for the first time, so they had to get the key items. Then we discussed strategy, etc. About that time, several of us suggested that we wait for the Tonberries to respawn and take them out again, since we'd taken so long to figure out what we were doing, but someone said they take a long time to respawn, so we went anyways.

The fight: This time the RDM 75 took Nio-A and I tanked Nio-Hum, while everyone focused on him. Things were going ok until AoE attacks started going off and several people had low HP. Everyone panicked (who do you heal? the other WHM, the RDM tank, or the PLD tank? ahhh) and I ended up going down. But Nio-Hum was close to death, so a SAM started tanking. Then things went from bad to worse. An Iron Maiden respawns and aggroes the mages. All the Tonberries respawn and aggro everyone. I really think we could've won if not for the respawns. I'm told Nio-A was very close to death when the last of us died.
