Wouldnt a smn be good for this bcnm? Because at lvl 40 smns have shiva sleepga and that is nearly never resisted. I really need the erase scroll for later so im jus wondering lol. Thx for any replys!^^

Tried this three times...0/3. These 5 mobs were just too much to handle all at once. Youve got to kill off the Monarch first or he will gain the Invincible ability, so having to start with the toughest mob and work through the ranks was difficult. Possibly the wrong party setup for this. WHM tried sleeping the other four while BLM and SAM worked on Monarch, but as soon as sleep wore off, they tore into us like Hell Monkey's on crack cocaine. Actually killed Monarch and Heir, but by that time mages were low on MP and no time to rest. I would recommend NIN as either main or sub of tank since opo-opo's can hit twice in a row. That may help keep WHM from curing constantly. BRD might be good idea cuz he can help sleep the other mobs, and help keep focus on one at a time.
Anyway hope this helps somebody. lol

I was just curious to know if anyone has any suggestions for a party set up, since the last update changed rangers pretty dramatically. I'd like to give this BCNM a whirl, but I don't want to go in unprepared.

You can do Royal Jelly. it also drops Ni, aswell as erase and archer's ring. you can go as a sam. i've done it with: rdm, drg, sam. rdm, drg, drg. rdm, drg, drk and i hear rdm, drg and mnk works too

me and my friend went into this place. this was the frist time any of us did a BCNM40 and we got owned. we were 40Thf/18Nin<me> 40WHM/20SMN and a 40NIN/20WAR. we all died in like 3mins. i woas wondering if ppl could help us out if so thx for the help<in advance>^^ /bow

just a thought: for the ones wit multiple enemies (almost all of them) bring a BRD and sleep all but 1 at a time. other mems could be a RDM for healing/nuking and a NIN so less healing is needed.

I think it got harder after the update too.
I beat it about 6 times before the update without a problem but I did 3 runs after it and we lost each time. We tried again later and won twice but didn't get any good drops. Just cheap lvl 40ish JSE weapons and pamamas.

however... when the healer heals PLD.. opo opo E will Attack the healer...kinda messy
so.. solution just let the pld run in first to aggro all the opo while the rng pulls
healer will only get hate from monarch

I do this one all the time, as SMN/WHM. I go with PLD/WAR and SAM/WAR. I do not recommend a DRK for one reason: you need to get thru the weak 3 fast. SAM, MNK work really well for that, from my experience. My only failures (out of many wins) were when I tried with my sis, who is DRK. Just too slow, the PLD runs out of potions and dies before you can kill them.
As for sleepga, with a fast DD, no need at all. We do it like this: PLD runs in, vokes the monarch, flashes the Epa-Epa. SAM runs in, vokes the Apu-Apu (weakest one), and I pull Shiva and sic her on Spo-Spo. With capped summon skill, Shiva can pretty well solo this guy, without needing resummon, while SAM builds TP on Apu-Apu the uses 2hour on Epa-Epa. SAM then kills Spo-Spo (who is nearly dead anyhow) and starts beating up the Heir. PLD is hitting Monarch the whole time. When SAM takes the Spo-Spo, put Shiva on the Monarch. Now, here is the tricky part. Heir and Monarch MUST die simultaneously. So have SAM disengage when Heir is at about 10% life left, and assist with Monarch. When SAM goes to Monarch, retreat Shiva so she doesn't accidentally kill it. When Monarch is at 10% life, both PLD and SAM disengage. PLD voke Monarch, Flash Heir. SMN use Diamond Dust. Victory!! Enjoy your winnings, we make about a mil every 3 orbs.

Currently the only job I have leveled to 40 is SAM and i normally sub THF (works for farming as well as exping) would this combo work, or is it necessary to use WAR sub.
Also, does the SAM need to have uber eqp? ex. Jujitsu Gi, Peacock Charm

Our Linkshell in the Server Slyph decided to give this BCNM a shot. We went in with;
40 RNG/NIN
40 BLM/WHM

We have done this a total of 6 times and have recieved Jagd Gorget 5/6, Scroll of Erase 1/6 and Utuesmi: Ni 1/6. With a couple good items on the side.

RNG killed Apu-Apu and Spo-Spo before I killed Epa-Epa and then got the heir's life to just a sliver as I finished off Epa then helped me with the Monarch. When he gave the signal WHM cast Banishga II to end it. We did it multiple times with success. Drops went something like this

Oops, wrong button...put up empty post at first. Anyway I just did this as an LS group with a PLD/WAR, WHM/BLM, and me NIN/RDM. I killed stuff pretty well spamming elemental wheel as much as possible. Utsusemi was less effective then it could have been, because I wasn't sufficiently out of range of the AoE spells. But the point is it worked, and I just wanted to encourage people to find new ways to do things if they don't have the cookie cutter jobs for this thing. I definitely did most of the damage, and it was fun. Our tactics were pretty standard as per the posts on this already. PLD tanks most of it, Elemental seal sleep, kill Apu-Apu first, then Spu, then Epu, then Banishga II and presto! We got our gils worth out of it and then some. We got the Jagd Gorget. So lots of DD types can work...When was the last time you saw a NIN eat an Apple pie...lol. That was my food of choice. Good luck to all of you still trying to do this one. I might try it as SAM/WAR next time I do it w/ them, cause it would be cheaper than Ninjutsu spam. I got some Ninjutsu evels out of it though, up to 110, yay. Have fun!

Could this be done with a PLD, DRK, WHM setup? I'm a DRK and I can't always get into a Balgas Dias fight and really dont have many options open to me for BCNMs. If anyone's gone on this with a DRK or is a DRK that has done this one, any info would help a lot.

I have done this BCNM numerous times on Valefor server. Jagd Gorget ( sold for 395k each time) is a relatively easy drop considering we got it 4 out of the first 6 times we did it. Along w/ Utsu:Ni, and a buch of other junk.I now have a "static" party set up for this and we go whenever we have enough BS :p
Use tristem's post as a template if you are looking to go. even if you do not use same <job> setup, read the order of kill and all that good stuff :-D

JeFFeRz, the only problem w/ your setup is that 2 of your party are going to be taking hits.. the pld/war takes Epa/Monarch that leaves the Apo beating up the blm till dead then he has to kill the Spo solo ; ; I would be genuinely surprised to see a blm solo 2 mobs then have enough mp left to -aga at the end ><

Im a lvl 37 sam on asura, was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on this BCNM. I need the Kagehida great katana but im not sure for party formations and stradegy cuz ive never done a BCNM before. <Please Help Me Out>

I just did this and got owned. I wend with a PLD a BLM and me a SAM. The problem didn't lie there. What happened was I couldn't stay targeting the Apo. I was attacking him, but not lookin at him. My focus was on the Spo. I continued to attack the apo but was target on the spo. Any thoughts.

Your problem is that your macro's likely use <bt> in them. I had the same problem. Be sure when doing BCNM's to change them all to <t>.

I was thinking of trying this with <Sam/war>, <Blm./whm.>, and <War/Nin or Monk>. Would this work if the Warrior brought plenty of potions and such?
Here is the plan:
-Warrior uses Utusisimi: Ichi, and Berserk, Warcry, Mighty Strikes, and goes in provoking the Epa-epa then Sturmwind on the Monarch to get boths attention. Black mage then uses Elemental seal Sleep on Spo-Spo.
-Warrior clicks off berserk and goes into Defensive as the shadows should be gone by now. Warrior then uses potions and Drain bolts to help keep himself alive.
-Samurai peels Apu-Apu off with an arrow and uses Tachi: Enpi, Meditate, and another Tachi: Enpi.After that the Samurai and Warrior quickly finish off the Epa-Epa. Samurai uses 2 hour to disposes of the Spo-Spo and then fights the Heir to near death while the warrior does the same to the Monarch.
-Black mage keeps us alive and finishes em off with an "aga" spell. Collect Treasure, wait 2 hours, and repeat.
Let me know if having a Warrior as a Tank is asking to loose 40 seals, the 3 of us are good friends in real life and have though this through a lot, but we just hit 40 and lack experiance.

this BCNM was cake... i happened upon this one by accident really. i was looking for a PT in jeuno and someone just asked me if i wanted to go to BCNM 40. so i naturally accepted (cuz i need the gil) and said let me go get an Orb.
after i got the orb i got the inv from the leader. our setup was Whm/Blm, Rng/War and Sam/Thf <me>. they asked if i had ever done this one, and i hadn't even heard of this one yet...
any ways, we head to Pal Mines, go into Waughroon Shrine and the rng starts explaining wut to do... so we buffed up and went in, the whm gave us both regen, while we concentrated on each Princess Jelly LEFT - to - RIGHT... one the first one the Rng did Barrage = Beerserk, they went down usually in about 3-4 hits between me and the RNG, the whm only healed and kept up buffing with regen as it would wear off.. as one would get close to dying the range would switch to another one and start to open fire...
now we went in right after another party had just set a new record, 5 mins 26 secs, we did it the 1st time in 5 mins 41 secs. the second time we did it we set a new record at 5 MINS 5 SECS!!! now for the best part. here is a list of the drops we got on both fights:

Say if the rng and pld take the hier and monarch to like 1/2 health then smn uses astrial flow, and lets say dimond dust, would that perty much kill all of them?

well, Stonega II and Banishga II do about 200 dmg to them, kills them with like 5% of their health bar left. duno how much dmg astral flow and diamond dust do, but at half health you would need to do at least 500 dmg to kill em.

utsusemi would be hard to cast with 2 mobs attacking you. also a pld is desireable because u need to keep the hate from 2 mobs for quite awhile and the def and vitality make a huge diff.

i beat this twice earlier today with pld, sam(me), and an unlikely whm. we broke the Leviathin record with this setup 11 min 1 sec.
the first time whm ele. seal sleep the spo. pld runs in vokes monarch and flashes epo. i kill apu then move on to spo, i kill him very fast with only my 2hr. then i help the pld kill epo. then i get heir while pld gets monarch. whm banishga II on them at the end and we win.
the second time, we killed it without my 2hr, and whm and pld didnt even have to use their 2hrs.
this was very easy doing with this party setup, we lost 2 times before but our only problem was killing them at the same time at the end, one time i killed on accadent heir because i underestimated my attack dmg and he died. the other time the whm banishga II too early and monarch lived. but aside from those mistakes it was easy.
got jagd gorget and phalanx scroll with a bunch of other junk.

Went with a slight variation of Sempronia's original strategy on this one and it worked out beautifully all 5 times.
Gear:
PLD has top of the line gear for the limit cap.
RNG has top of the line gear for the limit cap and utsusemi.
BLM has above average gear, almost all applicable spells, and close to maxed out enfeebling (imperative for ES+Sleep).
Food:
PLD uses YagudoDrinks/FishMiths
RNG uses Pear/Peskios au Lait/Mith or Chiefkabobs (~1700g)
BLM uses MelonPie/YagudoDrinks(~2100g)
(Prices based on Gilgamesh server)
Medicines are a worthy precaution, but none were used whatsoever.
Enemies:
Monarch - Physical attacks, enhancing and offensive -aga spells. If Heir dies and the Monarch still lives, it will be immune to physical attacks and gains back HP.
Heir - Does nothing originally. If Monarch dies and the Heir still lives, it will be immune to magical attacks, gains back HP, and begins to attack.
Spo - Physical attacks, toughest of the trio.
Epa - Physical attacks, tougher than Apo.
Apo - Physical attacks, goes down fast.
Strategy:
1)Buff up, take foods, take drinks when you feel is best, apply Utsusemi, etc.
2)PLD runs in head first aggroing everything. Voke or Flash the Monarch and fight the Epa.
3)BLM/WHM Elemental Seal + Sleeps the Spo and concentrates on the HP of the PLD and RNG from a distance as to not be hit by -aga spells.
4)RNG pulls Apo off the PLD and fights/kills it on opposite end of the arena. Thanks to a Barrage and NIN sub, Utsusemi ensures that almost no damage is taken during this stage.
5)RNG reapplies Utsusemi, wakes the Spo (if the BLM enfeebling is maxed, it should definitely still be asleep), fights and kills it.
6)RNG joins PLD in fighting Epa and they eliminate it.
7)PLD switches focus to the Monarch. RNG switches focus to the Heir.
8)RNG brings Heir to a little more than a sliver of HP and switches focus to the Monarch.
9)PLD and RNG bring Monarch to a little more than a sliver of HP and disengage.
10)PLD and RNG bring Monarch and Heir as close together as possible.

I read a few strats from above but they didnt work out all tooooo well. I had to change a few things around to make it work. And now we reem those monkeys everytime!
-Party Setup-

Pld-Fish kabob. Juice that will regen mp(its important so the best u can)I said Mp bc it regens just as fast as hp but u get more hp out of 8mp then u do out of 8hp(Cure=30hp).
Blm-Pie+juice!
Rng-Mith kabobs + Hp regener

1)Pld run in first and Voke Monarch and go in to battle with Epo-epo and take both to the other side of the battle field so party memembers dont get hurt by the AOE and use provoke and flash when ready on Monach u shouldnt loose Epa-epa' hate.
2)Blm ES+sleep Spo-spo while rng uses barrage on Apo-apo(should die quick).
3)By this time Spo-spo is waking up(he never stays asleep long)So have the ranger take him out with a little help from blm(blm is still curing pld a little and trying to use aspir when he/she can)
4)Now Rng goes for Epo-epo with help from the pld who should already be attacking it since the start of the battle(his hp should atleast be 1/4 down)
5)Then Pld attacks Monarch and Rng attacks Heir and gets his down to near death(as low as u can take him without risking him dying)
6)Then both Pld and Rng attack Monarch and get him to low hp as well(very low but dont kill him)and Blm uses s GA spell and its over!
Its a little hard the first time but once u get it down its a walk in the park! This is really hard for pld bc he has to try curing while 2 things are hitting him plus keepig hate on both. Time is hard but it can be done pretty easy. Rng needs to use Utsusemi as much as possible to save the blm mp for the final nuke.Blm ur pretty much a whm this fight u should only need to waste mp on sleep once but u still need to watch how u cast and dont cure III waste of mp at that lvl.

We substituted mnk for rng, used 100 fists and tore through Apo and spo, i was pld, keeping hate on epu and monarch, used melon juices to keep mp, altho i wish i would have brought more...blmm only had enuf mp left for blizzaga, but it took out monarch and heir. I barely survived, but we all lived and won, taking home the gorget, which sells for 300-600k on Quetz...
But man was that fun!!! Heart pounding, it was sweet.
Edited -- this is also possible using a dragoon. Set our own record at 8 minutes 44 seconds with pld, blm, and drg. Just be sure everyone understands their roles, and this one is cake.
Also -- Sealed Mace whm 39 wpn is a possible drop...kinda disappointing as it only sells for 9-10k on Quetz

If any Bard is level 40+ and wants to help me out (for free), please send me a tell...
Tried the pld/war, rng/nin, blm/whm setup and went 0-3 with it. Figured we'd get the same drops roughly as Steamed Sprouts without the difficulty of getting a six person group with Bard together. Problem is, even with ES + Sleep, Spo would always wake up while Epo was still half dead, and with both Epo and Spo pounding on our Ranger and Black Mage they could not survive.
I should also note that trying to fight five mobs with three people is chaos. It was too difficult to keep track of what was going on in battle.

The RDM ES + Sleep did *not* stick, and we were thoroughly beaten and sent home with notes to our moms. Basically, all we had to do was show up and die. I think, since it was our first time, we got confused with the targeting since there were so many mobs, and they were all in a cluster. That, and we thought the Heir was attacking the RDM, but he was just following.

hey almalthia! sorry my plan did not work, I have yet to actually do this BCNM b/c I ran out of seals doing the sprout one. The rdm/blm rng/nin rng/nin was just a plan I had. Apparently if you see below a rdm/nin with utussemi, stoneskin, phalanx can just tank the Monarch from a distance and the rng/nins can beat up on the other 3 weak opo-opos, then proceed to Monarch and Heir in that order.

I tried this tonight, Two rangers and a brd/whm we got destroyed.The bard couldnt put the monarch to sleep and neither could I with sleep arrows. We tried a few different things and almost one the last time, excpet when we finished the monarch the heir used a POWERFUL AOE that did about 250 to all of us.

ok i did this 3 times and it worked all 3 times.
some things to remember b4 u fight:
1) apo-apo, epo-epo, and spo-spo's levels are alphabetical. ie- apo=easy, epo=harder, spo=hardest (not harder than monarch/heir obviously)
2) heir never attacks. he just runs around and acts like the goofy monkey that he is.
3) monarch is a bitch. he hits pretty hard and casts stonega.
reccommended pt set-up:
1) PLD/WAR
2) RNG/WAR or RNG/NIN
3) BLM/WHM
note---any mage class could handle the healing duties, but "sleep" and a powerful "ga" spell is needed.
items needed:
PLD- peskios au lait(sp?)=hp regen, fish kabob
RNG- peskios au lait(sp?)=hp regen, meat bobs
BLM- ether, yagudo drink=mp regen
also- X-potions are nice to have in a pinch.
i am the RNG, and i tell the BLM to focus on his other duties and let me be. i cast utsu and use a X-potion if needed. use this macro:
/item "X-potion" <me>
keep in mind: MONARCH AND HEIR MUST BE KILLED SIMOTANEOUSLY.
-if monarch dies first, u die next. heir regains half of his hp, and becomes immune to magic attacks. he will also start attacking u, and he hits like a mack truck.
-if heir dies first, u die next. monarch regains half of his hp, and becomes immune to melee attacks.
so whats the plan? simple:
upon entering, do your standard buffs: protectra, shellra, and barstonra. drink your drinks and eat your eats. cast utsu if you got it.
all of u hike across the bridge leading to the battlefield.
1) PLD vokes the monarch. PLD flashes epo-epo. PLD needs to keep both of these 2 occupied so it goes smoothly.
2) BLM sleeps spo-spo. also keeps PLD alive. (NO NUKING!)
3) RNG pulls apo-apo. use barrage and lay the pointy projectiles into him. save tp. should take roughly 30 seconds to kill. recast utsu when apo is dead.
4) RNG pulls epo-epo off PLD. epo will take a little longer to kill than apo, but not much. use the tp u have saved and finish him as quickly as possible. recast utsu.
5) RNG pulls spo-spo (who should still be asleep)off RDM. spo takes longer than apo and epo, but is still relatively easy. finish him quickly and recast utsu.
6) RNG pulls heir. heir never attacks, even when u are pummeling him, so dont take pity. DO NOT KILL HEIR! leave him with just a sliver of life remaining. to play it safe, i stopped shooting arrows when he was close to death and hacked away with my archer daggers. disengage and recast utsu if u havent already.
7) RNG attacks monarch. by this time, monarch should be half dead thanks to the PLD. its best to have PLD disengage and remain tanking without attacking. (voke/heal, no melee) DO NOT KILL MONARCH! get him as close to 0 hp as u can.
this is the most important part of the fight. if u mess this up, all your work is for nothing and u have a slim chance of making it to the zone b4 u r killed.
8) RNG and PLD must keep heir/monarch close together. (close enough so they are both in range of the "ga" spell) when RNG has monarch down to his last hit, disengage and give the ready signal to the BLM. BLM nukes the hell out of the 2 monkeys with his strongest "ga" spell.
if they both die at once, u won. if not..., push the BLM down and run like hell to the zone.
i did this 3 times and won 2wice. we lost the 1st time b/c our PLD got nervous or something and ran b4 BLM nuked. monarch followed him and was out of "ga" range. we were pissed...

I read your strat, and it *seems* sound, but I have some questions raised by it and by some other posts here.
1) The Heir never attacks? I have a rough time believing that there is a mob in this game who will allow you to take potshots at it, and never retaliate.
2) Twice it is mentioned in this thread that Sleep (both the spell and arrows) does not work on the Monarch. Can anyone else further confirm this? When we tried, it didn't work for us, either. So make that three times mentioned.
3) Relating to 1, we could attack the Heir, never recieve damage from him, and whittle down his health, right? Then, if the Monarch died first, the Heir would regan half of his max HP? Or would this be half of his remaining HP?

beat this twice with pld/war sam/war whm/blm...

*important* if u think u can kill the monarch and melee the heir (since he is immune to magic if monarch dies) it wont work, he heals himself, does a lot of dmg uses spells and has loads of hp.
