Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Cloudy Orb, which is obtained by trading 20 Beastmen's Seals to Shami in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Cloudy Orb to the Burning Circle inside Balga's Dais and choose to enter the battle Charming Trio.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 20 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. You will fight 3 NM Leeches named Prune, Phoedme, and Pepper. Once you kill them all, a chest will appear and you will receive an assortment of rewards.

  • All have the Leech special attacks.

  • Each leech has a special TP move. Pepper uses Absorbing Kiss (Attribute Drain), Prune uses Random Kiss (can be either HP, TP, or MP Drain), and Phoedme uses Deep Kiss (Status Effect Drain).

Strategies

  • It is recommended that Pepper be killed first, then Prune, then Phoedme.

  • Each party member should either be able to solo a leech or kite one.

  • DRG/WHM, RDM/WHM, NIN/WAR has been successful. RDM binds one leech, and enfeebles a second one while kiting it. DRG and NIN kill third leech, before moving onto the bound one, then the one being kited.

we did it yesterday
2xMNK/WAR
1xWHM
time: 8 min 39 sec

first WHM buffed us (protect, shell) then we eat meat mithkabob and drink pear au lait and attacked the leeches - we both used our 2hr- Hundred Fist on Pepper, WHM healed us and resting, next we killed Phoedme and finally Prune (we ocasionally used voke to save WHM)
Beat it
# Jan 24 2005 at 8:38 PM Rating: Decent
I beat this BCNM awhile ago, party setup was:
WHM/BLM (me)
PLD/WAR
DRG/WAR
I used a pumpkin pie and a yag drink, PLD used a fish mithkabob and an orange au lait. The DRG used nothing ><
We went in, buffed up (Protectra and Shellra),DRG used 2-hour and voked Prune, PLD voked Pepper and attacked Phoedme, then hit invincible. I chugged the yag drink and healed DRG while PLD used his orange au lait. When invincible wore off, PLD healed himself for awhile, and by that time, DRG had killed Prune. The DRG then voked and attacked Phoedme, along with PLD. When it was dead, they both attacked Prune. They never used Drain Kiss ^^
Prizes were only Mannequin Hands (sold for 60.9k), a Mythril Beastcoin, Toad Oil and Beastman's of Fiend blood (around 4.8k).About 20.6k per person ><
Set the record on Quetzalcoatl somewhere near 5 mins and 12 secs, beat past record by 2 mins ^^

I just did this BCNM for the first time last night, my 2nd ever and it was literally a cake walk. My brother and a LS friend decided to go to get him his mannequin hands. Our setup was

WAR/WHM(me)
SMN/WHM
PLD/WAR

We went in, buffed up rested for full mps. We all had 3 Hi-Potions and our SMN had a yag drink plus a hi-ether. Once at full MPs, SMN summoned carby which was a bad choice and sent carby in to attack the middle once. Once some hate was built up me and the pld enagaged in the middle one (not sure on the name). SMN 2hr'd with Carby which sucked.. For some odd reason I took hate from the avatar and was forced to use my pots. Once we killed the middle one, I 2hr'd and we started in on the right one. Within a few seconds it was toast, by this time our SMN had summoned ifirit and was fighting the last one. 10 seconds later its over. Even for out few mistakes we did this with relative ease.

Furychaos
Leviathan
29 War, 18 Whm, 16 Drg
All that and rank5 before trial period ended...2 brothers.

WTF ... it did a Deep Kiss and stole my Astral Flow ... just wiped it out along with all my other buffs ...

I knew it stole buffs with that ... but my 2-Hour!!!! I was toast after that.

Okay is it just me or does anybody get the joke of this name? They clearly playing off the Warner Brothers show "Charmed".

Ie:
Charmed Trio = "Charmed (show name", with a trio of witch sisters.
Prune, Phoedme and Pepper = Prue, Phoebe and Pipper (the 3 sisters).

Took me a minute but I think I got the joke :)

Yeah, I caught that too. Really strange place for such a bizarre reference. Glad someone else noticed.

sometimes if you kill prune very very quickly, another leech named "padge" would spawn and join the battle.

if you manage to get all 3 leeches' hp to below 10% at the same time, they will summon a giant leech named leno

and after that if you kill prune and phoedme and leave leno and pepper alive for sometime, a small leech named "whiatt" will spawn

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.

I don't know if that's true or not (ive only just heard about this BCNM(s).. but if it is.. that would be freaking funny as he11.. my mom watches that show religously.. be nice to tell her i kiled them.. >:)
Not difficult

This BCNM is not that difficult with the right equip and items (potions, au lauts, ether, etc.) We did it with a WAR/THF(me), MNK/THF and WHM/NIN with no problems. Strategy was to kill Pepper first, that's the hardest one in the middle, then focus on one at a time for the other two. I voked Pepper and the MNK attacked another one so not all three were beatin me down, then concentrated all attacks on Pepper. I didn't even use my 2hr until after Pepper was dead, and totally forgot about my Ranged Weapon, lol. I was so intimidated and afraid my potion would not get off in time I was surprised at how easy they went down. 5 min, 20 sec later (new record) we got:
Manequin Hands
Manequin Head
Mythril Coins
Fiends Blood
Grass Cloth

Overall, don't be intimidated, take a tank and a backup tank (my MNK was a Galka lol) and a healer, you should be fine cause the leeches only hit for 20-30 (pepper) and 15-20 (other 2). Thanks to Johnman and Slacker for helpin me get my Manequin Hands. lol

I've been thinking about this a little bit at work today. I wonder....

A set up of three rangers?
RNGs bring Icarus Wing, Meat Miths, Au Lait, and Hi-Potions to be safe

Enter battlefield, run to bridge use food, drink, and Icarus Wings. Step up, Sharpshot, time it so that RNGs fire a shot at Pepper at the same time to set things off (120-140 dmg if they all hit). Immediately two people hit Eagle Eye Shot, Pepper is dead within 10 seconds. Quickly use Piercing Arrow -> Piercing Arrow -> Piercing Arrow on Phoedme before Sharpshot wears off. Phoedme should be close to dead at this point. Keep firing shots until Phoedme is dead. Then, onto Prune. Last RNG uses 2hr to bring to half HP. Use weapon skills when available, no need to Skillchain at this point. Just duke it out with Prune until he's dead. If all goes according to plan, the leeches will die so fast you won't even need potions, especially if RNGs all sub WAR and voke to control hate.

Just a theory, but if it worked, I bet it'd be a record that'd be hard to beat ^^ Unfortunately, I'm the only 20+ RNG in my LS, so I won't be able to test it anytime soon =(

Speaking of broken records, my LS's record of 4'11" was beat the other day =( I was sad to see a new clear time of 3'39" >< I'm guessing it was a couple of SMNs with Astral Flow -ga spells or something.
Thanks, 'Buncle.

My roomates and I whooped the hell out of this sorry bunch of losers. Our plan worked quite well, in case anyone else wants to try it.

Members:
Me - SMN/WHM - Taru
Yancy - SMN/WHM - Taru
Galatheil - PLD/WAR - Elvaan

As soon as we got in to the arena, we buffed up. Still being in the process of soloing all the avitar battles, I had a few boiled crabs lying around so each of us had Protect I, Boiled Crab and in the case of Yancy and I, Aquaveil. Gala ran up and provoked the middle leech. The other two followed suit and started hammering on him. Meanwhile Yancy and I summoned our Carbuncles and proceded to following the www.summoner.info basic strategy for soloing the avitars. (IE: Summon 'Buncle, use Yag Drink, two hour, searing light, wait for 'Buncle to die and repeat minus the Yag Drink of course.) After the first Searing light went off, Gala threw on Invincable to keep the leeches on him. Yancy got off two searing lights, and I did three. The leeches went down pretty fast and with little difficulty. If we hadn't taken the time to buff up in the begining we would have totaly smashed the record on our server and using a stronger summon would've be even more effective. So, if you want to take these buggers out, 2 Smn's and a Pld should do just fine. Just make sure your Pld brings some potions just in case things get hairy.
Dropped: Wool Cloth, Beastman's Blood, Fiend's Blood, Potion +1, and Mannequin Hands.

This battle is loads of fun. Some LS buddies and I do this once or twice a day. We're currently 5/7 if I remember correctly. Our preferred setup is pld/rng/whm. We've also done it with pld/rng/rdm.

No potions or ethers are needed, just food. You may not even need food, we just use it because most of us can cook it ourselves for very cheap. I (rng) eat a meat mith, pld uses boiled crab, whm eats a witch kabob and some juice. PLD and RNG need 2hrs charged up. After a few rounds of getting the feel of the battle, we developed a near-flawless strategy and now I can safely say that we pwn these Leeches ^^

Overall we've recieved 2 Mannequin Heads (200k ea) and 5 sets of Mannequin Hands (90k ea). Also, about 4 vials of Beastman's blood and Fiend's blood, two or three jars of Toad Oil, Air Spirit Pact, Platoon Gun, Platoon Spatha, Potion +1, not to mention 500 gil each time. Overall, about 1 million gil (333k ea) worth of stuff in less than a week. Now I just have to wait for this dreaded Toad Oil to sell ><

Edit: Just set the new record on Phoenix! 4 minutes, 11 seconds ^^
Also, some other drops not listed are Platoon Edge, Cotton Cloth, Mythril Coin, Beastman's Blood, and of course Mannequin Head. I also think that the Mannequin Hands are a guarenteed drop. I've now does this one 7 times successfully and have recieved the hands each time, the head only twice.

How does loot distribution work? Does everyone lot on stuff or does everyone get one of each item?

Well my ls has been trying for a while with various setups to take these guys out but have met with defeat each time. Earlier tonight we tried again with war/drg(me) Mnk/war, and whm/smn. I had fishkabobs and pamama au lait with a good supply of x-potions. the mnk had meat chiefkabobs and selbina milk. the whm had yag drinks and hi-ethers.
Right off the bat the mnk and i 2 hrd and by the time Mighty strikes and hundred fists wore pepper was basicly dead. We moved onto phoedme next and we took him down pretty quick. then our whm's mp started to run pretty low and he 2 hr'd. I voked prune off him by some miracle and we beat him with a fair amount of hp left over. set the record too. Drops were manequin hands, Mythril beastcoin, Linen cloth, fiend Blood, and a Potion+1 and are fgonna do it again once all our 2 hrs recharge.

ok how does this thing work??? I went it with a party of 20 THF/ 10 MNK A 20 RDM/10 WAR and a WHM 36/18 blm...We failed why??? What does a party need to succeed and is it really 3 people??

Umm.. RDM/WAR doesn't help much either. That's not a tank at level 20. You don't even have stoneskin/blink/phalanx. RDM/WAR is a poor combo even at higher levels.

And THF/MNK, especially at level 20, isn't much of a DD.

Why did you fail? maybe because one of the players in the setup is just ill suited to this fight. thf/mnk? they should have switched it to mnk/whatever. with a thf in the pt as the only dd you were pretty much doomed from the start.
Light Damage?

I was wondering how much damage Light magic does to them? If they are weak to light. I am assuming not much damage as Charm is = to Light and Charm don't work period.

If they are Water dealers then Lightning/Stun would be effective vs. them. Anybody try anything along these lines yet?

I think it would open up more doors than the theme of hitting them with a Ranger/Summoner & Healer.

I'm a 19 White Mage / 20 Red Mage. I don't care to use Foods as it takes away from the profits. I'm sure there is a solid way to finish them without those sources. I would like to find those other options, but if entirely not possible then that’s ok too.

Any thoughts?

I am currently 2 for 2 on this BCNM 20, Charming Trio. This BCNM does not necessarily require a SMN -- although a SMN is probably the best solution -- and a RDM can be useful given the correct strategy. Both times we went with a PLD/WAR, MNK/WAR, and RDM/SMN.

PLD goes in, vokes Pepper so that all 3 leeches are attacking him. PLD uses invincible, MNK uses Hundred fists, and RDM simply melees. All are attacking Pepper. Pepper should drop shortly after PLD invincibility wears off. PLD should cast cure as fast as possible during this period, because the leeches will Aspir him and he WILL run out of mp.

After Pepper drops, Everyone focuses on Phoedme next. MNK 2 hour might still be going, so he should just be pummeling away. At this point, PLD vokes Phoedme, and this gives RDM (who should have full mp) clearance to use Chainspell and nuke the crap out of Phoedme. Stay away from Water spells and and Stone, as these don't do jack. During this time, the MNK/WAR can backup voke, because if Phoedme goes after the RDM, then there's a possibility that the RDM can get Aspired, which is bad. Phoedme should die after some fighting.

Then, you've just got to deal with Prune. It should be easier from here on out, just spread the hate between the MNK and the PLD. Maybe the RDM will have some mp left at this point to Cure or nuke. If Prune uses Drain, don't panic, just battle it out straight up melee, try to throw in a SC you've worked out beforehand.

The PLD shouldn't waste time with food stats because these little suckers are going to suck your added stats away. I recommend some simple mp regen stuff for the RDM, and perhaps a few potions for the MNK just for insurance. The PLD will be taking the majority of the hits in this one, so the key to winning with this party is the PLD carrying sufficient Hi-potions to heal himself after Invincible wears off. I was the PLD and the first time I used 3 Hi-potions, the 2nd time I ended up using 4 Hi-potions. So this party may not be the most efficient, but it does the job. And 4 Hi-potions are definitely worth the Mannequin part you will get from this in my opinion. Still, having a SMN is very probably better than RDM.
