Summary

The Temple of Uggalepih is an ancient place where it is said that evil deities were once worshipped. Gilgamesh has ordered you to travel there and search out a strange, old hermit.

Walkthrough

There are a few quests you might have to do before you can do this mission.

When you kill Tonberries, the Tonberry hate will accumulate. The damage of a weapon skill used by the tonberries is proportional to the Tonberry hate. Only those party members who damage the tonberry will accumulate hate. Because the BCNM battle is against Tonberries, you should find out if any of your party members has been killing Tonberries. If so, they should reset their Tonberry hate. To save time, ask anyone needing to do this to do it before you start doing the mission.

To do this, first go to I-8 in Norg and talk to Magephaud. Give her 3 gold beastcoins (about 8-10k each) and she'll give you a key that will open a hidden door to reset Tonberry hate. However, unless you have killed tonberries before, you cannot trade gold beastcoins to her and get the key. After that, head to F-11 in the Temple of Uggalepih. One of the walls in the middle can be opened with the key from Magephaud. Inside there will be a Tonberry Priest that will reset hate for a price. This is not necessary, especially for mages who heal only.

At least one person will need a paintbrush of souls to get to the Den of Rancor. Go to the Temple of Uggalepih and fight Tonberry Cutters until they drop "an Uggalepih key". Tonberry Cutters can be found a little further in from the entrance.

To get into the Sacrificial Chamber in the Den of Rancor you will need to obtain 4 unlit lanterns which will help open the gate (or you could bring nice friends that kept their lanterns). The lanterns are dropped by Tonberry Maledictors. There are a lot of spots to find them. From the main entrance of Temple of Uggalepih, head to J-7 and open the secret door, exit at K-3 to Yhoator Jungle. Go to another entrance at the right side of K-9 in Yhoator Jungle. Once in the temple, go to H-7. There should be 2-3 Tonberry Maledictors there. Once you have got the Uggalepih key and 4 unlit lanterns, go back to the main entrance and head to F-7 on the first map to get the paintbrush.

Now exit at F-5 to enter Yhoator Jungle and enter the temple at H-11. Once in the temple, head to I-10 and defeat the Temple Guardian. Make sure to prevent the Temple Guardian from using Meltdown ability by using stun because it can kill the whole party. After you kill the Temple Guardian, the door in front will open. Once it is open, head to J-7 and keep going further. There'll be a room with a bunch of paintings and 2 with just the frame. Go to the frame that you have to face south to, and use the paintbrush. It will take a couple minutes to open the door so I recommend clearing out this room. Once the door is open run in and zone to Den of Rancor.

Invisible/Sneak everyone in the party and go to E-5. Clear the room and have people with the unlit lanterns touch the Altar of Rancor to get a Rancor Flame. Once that is done, head to I-5 which will go to another map. On the second map, go to E-5. It is recommended to clear this room because you can't light the lanterns while getting hit. Have each person with the Rancor Flame light the four lanterns to open the door. You will still have the Rancor Flame, in case you need to help other people.

After zoning into the Sacrifical Chamber, go inside the door for the BC fight. There are 3 Tonberry NMs and the order in which to kill them:

1 - Grav'iton (THF)
2 - Molyb'iton (BLM)
3 - Tungs'iton (SMN) + elemental pet

It is very difficult, if possible at all, to sleep the THF. So you can kill the THF first while you silence and/or sleep the BLM and SMN. Ignore the pet and concentrate on the SMN as it will disappear once the SMN is dead.

When you are done, you will get a cutscene and will exit from a different gate than the one you went in. Take this into consideration if you have more than 6 people needing to do this battle.

Had mostly lvl 65s, Had a 65 pld and 75 rdm...

Very very easy.... Sleepga > walloping on the thf... no prob... Took BLM down in a few hits from our RNg who did Slugshot O.o

After the SMN used Astral Flow, our HP bars were kinda orange; I just used chakra and some hipots....

And then it happened! My best Dragon kick ever XD

1145 damage to the thing and the 75 pld lost hate XD

All-in-all, the mission was easy since the two 75ers had lanterns and Paintbrushes and all that jazz, so basically, the rest of the pt just sat at the torches and waited for them to come back...

Unfortunately, they aggro'd a lolbifrons, but they killed it dead.

lawlbeefaroni.
damage anyone?

Haven't done this mission yet (I can never get anyone to do it when I have the time) but I think from what I hear about tonberry hate is:

Everybody's Grudge: Deals damage to you based on your hate alone.
Everybody's Rancor: Deals damage to you based on your entire party's hate.

This is why resetting your hate is important for your party, even if you are a mage. I don't think your tank will like that 50K+ damage from Rancor because your a WHM that likes to kill things.

Although, I haven't killed to many, I doubt it's enough to worry about, I've soloed about 20-30 tonberrys outside of the temple.
Tonberry hate?

have killed three Tonberries, two Tonberry Creeper and one Hexer, but Magephaud still doesn't allow me to trade the gold beastcoins... he kept on saying "It looks like you're not in that much trouble though."

Anyone know what might be missing to obtain the key to reset Tonberry hate?
Tonberry hate?

yeah, more tonberry hate. 3 dead tonberries is no big deal
Tonberry hate?

everyone's grudge deals 5 damage for every one you kill. while farming for key/lantern i was getting hit for a little over 200 each time they did it. Definately need to reset hate before I continue :D

Beat this on the first try with:

75BRD/37WHM (me)
75MNK/37NIN
75NIN/37WAR
64WAR/32NIN
67PLD/33WAR
70WAR/35NIN

Another unorthodox party but the fight went smoothly. I opened with Soul Voice (2hr) + Horde Lullaby on the middle mob (Thief). As expected everything slept except the thief which came forward. I kept 2hr Minuet+March on the party. The thief tonberry killed our ninja in one shot, but that was our only casualty. We went for the BLM next (yes, out of order), which got HP's into yellow from aoe nukes but curega's took care of that. The rest was easy.

I lead the party having no information except what was posted here.. some tips that would have helped:

1. I can CONFIRM that you only need ONE unlit lamp for the party. It can be run back and forth between the Altar and the 4 lamps. Using the altar turns it into a Rancor Flame, and lighting the lanterns turns it back into an unlit lantern. You can keep the lantern forever. Of course, if you have mages with additional lamps it will go faster.

2. There are two stone paintings in the room where you use the paintbrush. The one that worked for me was on the East wall. Moving the camera did not interrupt the painting process.

3. You don't *need* Sleepga. Bard 2hr + Horde Lullaby works fine too, since 2hr guarantees songs land successfully.

4. Where do you find mobs to farm lanterns? We went through the painting room of Temple of Ug. to the Den of Rancor and killed Imprecators in the G-6 room in the Den. Then we went to the I-5 tunnel ('A' on the ffxi-atlas.com map) and farmed the G-H-7-8 room on the next map.

Good luck...

Ouch

So yea. Decided I'd get these ZMs out of the way creeping up the ladder into the 60s and whatnot, so here's my story.

This fight is cake, basically.

Set-up

63BLM/WHM (me)
70RDM/WHM (brother)
75RDM/NIN (LS mate)

That's it.

Went in, I ES+Sleepga'd, THF resisted and came at us, no biggie he's who we were going after anyway.

RDM tanked, I lightly nuked, other RDM melee'd, no big deal.

RDM kept the BLM asleep, I kept the SMN/Avater asleep, no big deal.

Once we plowed through the BLM we all put up stoneskin for Astral Flow, it wiped mine out and did ~300 damage (Tarutaru ftw) but no biggie.

Was much too easy. The cut-scene seemed like too much of a reward for the fight.
Finaly

Well I finaly did it me and my bro. Fryilluh where 0/3 on this one time I died 5 times trying to get through. What one person said id true don't try this unless you are 70+ that being said it can be done lower I was 69 thf. The problem comes in when people do not listen and run off and get lost and aggroed if everyone stays together and selects a leader and listens to just that leader it can be done much lower. All you have to so is sneak and invise your way through and don't get aggro. Oh aand kill the thf first thf's pwn!

I wouldn't attempt it before level 70. Maybe even higher, but I'm usually over-cautious about things.

Pld 71
Nin 75(me)
Nin 75
Drk 74
Whm 61
Mnk 64

We beat the time record. This fight is toooooooooo easy.

One tank per mob, Pld got the thief, One nin smn (me) and one nin blm. I finished first and jumped on the thf, by the time I engaged, second nin joined in, it was over before it started.
Paintbrush of Souls

Note: Once in, Stay in the paintbrush room (library) F-7 until you get the Paintbrush of Souls.
1. Trade your Uggalepih key to the door at F-7 to enter the room
2. Try the (3) Worn Books until one of them gives you an Old Rusty Key (which is a Key Item; not in your inventory)
3. In same room, click on an Old Casket to get your Paintbrush of Souls(another Key Item).
The caskets outside will not work. If you leave without the paintbrush, just kill Tonberry Cutters until you get another Uggalepih key.
More like ZM-bore...

Hehe.. very unorthadox setup we had..

71PLD/WAR
72DRK/THF
73RDM/BLM
65WHM/BLM
71WHM/DRG<me>
70SMN/WHM

Went very smooth. RDM ES/Sleepga'd and pulled THF first. Did Hexa Strike >>> Swift Blade >>> Gravitation >>> Spiral Hell >> Darkness to drop him fast. Soon as he dropped, SMN woke up to come play. Made quick work of it with another Darkness SC. BLM was still asleep the whole time. (Had time to take a screenie waving next to him :D) SMN 2 hour'd for fun to finish.

New record on Asura ^^

Took about 2 hours to farm for the lanters. (But we already had two so expect it to take longer.) After that it was pretty much stright throught he zones, painting, torches, zone into BC.

The BC was pretty simple even though our BLM didnt have Sleepga 2. We had RDM 71, RDM 70, BLM 60, SAM 60, PLD 75, WAR 75. One RDM ES -> Sleep 2ed the SMN while the BLM ES -> Sleep 2ed the BLM.( I say this so that you know that Sleepga2 is not absolutely necessary, just have the Sleepers on their toes for when they wake up.) Then we took down the thf, blm and smn in that order. SMN used Ifrit for Astral Flow, I think the most dmg I saw was about 400 to the taru blm, other than that we took very very little dmg.

Easy/fun fight. Good Luck!

Not as hard as people may think
# Apr 06 2006 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
For this we took:

75MNK
75DRG
72BLM
60MNK
61WHM
61RDM

As everyone has said, you don't need 4 unlit lanterns. We had 3 and lit the lanterns and then I ran back and got the flame again and lit the last lantern.

Once in the BCNM, I went in and Elemental Seal Sleepga 2 the tonberries. All except for the thf slept, of course. Killed him with some ease, I just nuked during Perfect Dodge.

Killed the BLM next and it died extremely fast.

SMN woke up just in time to be killed. Had has light elemental slept and then he pulled out Leviathan. Astral Flow barely touched most people. Some of the 60's went into the yellow but it was nothing to fret about. Killed SMN and that was it. Clear time was approximately 3 minutes.

Oh yeah and our 75MNK tanked with sub NIN. If you have Sleepga 2 you should really have no problems with this. He reset his hate when we initially got to the temple but he was killing tonberries just for fun and Everyone's Rancor only did like 200-300 to him.

attepted this last night, after using 5 hours getting there we had 12 people that were gonna fight, and 7 people that needed it. to make a long story short, to actually have a good team of only people that needed it someone was gonna have to come back later and do it, so me, a pld, whm, rdm, blm, thf, and mnk went it. Our lowest levels were the thf, level 60.

at first everything was going fine, was killing up on the thf and doing pretty good dmg when suddenly, he was almost dead, "eceryone rancor. For some oddd reason it had turned around and kill the mnk, basically our only dd. After that, things went for much. sleep or silences wasnt working, and we all died. what a terrible night
Gold Beastcoins o.O

Crazy way to win

OK just getting to the Sacrificial Chamber was a circus. But lets get right to the fight.

We go in we buff and all that.

So we pull the THF as we are killing the THF or missing him the other 2 tonberry's are workin us over. Seems that Sleep didnt help much. or at lease it felt that way.

Needless to say I was killed by the THF. I was the "tank" since i was 68war/nin the rest of the party was wype by the BLM and SMN. But our THF left the battlefield before he was killed.

So we all healed up rebuffed and tryed again.

Again I was killed near the death of the THF.>.< But the THF tonberry was takin out and then so was the BLM but that left the SMN tonberry to cast astral flow and are party was completely wyped this time>.< Then SMN tonberry returned to his post. <astral flow> sucks.
But our THF had the idea of our WHM raising himself while we were still in the battelfield. We all said "why not" after all if he gets agro he'll end up dead and we will just be removed from the battlefield in 3 mins anyways to try again. So the WHM raises himself and begin to raise the rest of us except our THF he was too close to the SMN tonberry. Gah>.< again after we all healed up. We begin our attack on the SMN and thats when the WHM raises our THF. The THF stayed back as the rest of us let the SMN tonberry have it. YAY! we finaly win. The battelfield time was 23mins.+ but who cares about setting a record?

The players were Amari=THF, Fayt=WHM, Narcotix=BLM, Rockra=DRG, Stillwaters=SAM and Wiliam=WAR

P.S. this was the hardest most confusing quest/mission i have done thus far>.<
About the lanterns.
# Mar 09 2006 at 11:24 PM Rating: Decent
Just letting everyone know. I've read in some posts that this can be done with one lantern. This is wrong, their are four slots for you to place the lanterns. Making it impossible for only one lantern to be used. Or maybe their is something I'm missing out on. So with that said, I will attempt this mission for the 8th time tomorrow...
