Summary

The Temple of Uggalepih is an ancient place where it is said that evil deities were once worshipped. Gilgamesh has ordered you to travel there and search out a strange, old hermit.

Walkthrough

There are a few quests you might have to do before you can do this mission.

When you kill Tonberries, the Tonberry hate will accumulate. The damage of a weapon skill used by the tonberries is proportional to the Tonberry hate. Only those party members who damage the tonberry will accumulate hate. Because the BCNM battle is against Tonberries, you should find out if any of your party members has been killing Tonberries. If so, they should reset their Tonberry hate. To save time, ask anyone needing to do this to do it before you start doing the mission.

To do this, first go to I-8 in Norg and talk to Magephaud. Give her 3 gold beastcoins (about 8-10k each) and she'll give you a key that will open a hidden door to reset Tonberry hate. However, unless you have killed tonberries before, you cannot trade gold beastcoins to her and get the key. After that, head to F-11 in the Temple of Uggalepih. One of the walls in the middle can be opened with the key from Magephaud. Inside there will be a Tonberry Priest that will reset hate for a price. This is not necessary, especially for mages who heal only.

At least one person will need a paintbrush of souls to get to the Den of Rancor. Go to the Temple of Uggalepih and fight Tonberry Cutters until they drop "an Uggalepih key". Tonberry Cutters can be found a little further in from the entrance.

To get into the Sacrificial Chamber in the Den of Rancor you will need to obtain 4 unlit lanterns which will help open the gate (or you could bring nice friends that kept their lanterns). The lanterns are dropped by Tonberry Maledictors. There are a lot of spots to find them. From the main entrance of Temple of Uggalepih, head to J-7 and open the secret door, exit at K-3 to Yhoator Jungle. Go to another entrance at the right side of K-9 in Yhoator Jungle. Once in the temple, go to H-7. There should be 2-3 Tonberry Maledictors there. Once you have got the Uggalepih key and 4 unlit lanterns, go back to the main entrance and head to F-7 on the first map to get the paintbrush.

Now exit at F-5 to enter Yhoator Jungle and enter the temple at H-11. Once in the temple, head to I-10 and defeat the Temple Guardian. Make sure to prevent the Temple Guardian from using Meltdown ability by using stun because it can kill the whole party. After you kill the Temple Guardian, the door in front will open. Once it is open, head to J-7 and keep going further. There'll be a room with a bunch of paintings and 2 with just the frame. Go to the frame that you have to face south to, and use the paintbrush. It will take a couple minutes to open the door so I recommend clearing out this room. Once the door is open run in and zone to Den of Rancor.

Invisible/Sneak everyone in the party and go to E-5. Clear the room and have people with the unlit lanterns touch the Altar of Rancor to get a Rancor Flame. Once that is done, head to I-5 which will go to another map. On the second map, go to E-5. It is recommended to clear this room because you can't light the lanterns while getting hit. Have each person with the Rancor Flame light the four lanterns to open the door. You will still have the Rancor Flame, in case you need to help other people.

After zoning into the Sacrifical Chamber, go inside the door for the BC fight. There are 3 Tonberry NMs and the order in which to kill them:

1 - Grav'iton (THF)
2 - Molyb'iton (BLM)
3 - Tungs'iton (SMN) + elemental pet

It is very difficult, if possible at all, to sleep the THF. So you can kill the THF first while you silence and/or sleep the BLM and SMN. Ignore the pet and concentrate on the SMN as it will disappear once the SMN is dead.

When you are done, you will get a cutscene and will exit from a different gate than the one you went in. Take this into consideration if you have more than 6 people needing to do this battle.

something you might want to try
# Aug 14 2005 at 9:40 AM Rating: Decent
If you have no hate little hate or already reset hate. This is a little trick you might want to try which I found by complete mistake.

As I was trying to do this as a group our BLM and one of our DD got totally lost. So they escaped. Where they went to was to the temple near where the place you enter from the paint brush area. A little east of it.

This is what I suggest if you have you lamps and you don't need to reset hate just go to rancer den
from yhoat. Then escape. print off the map at www.ffxi-atlas.com it will help.

All you need to do this is 1 unlit lantern and a really uber sneak/inviser. I just got finished seeing if this was possible because of some of the prior post saying that you only need 2 or 3 lanterns. I did just managed to light all 4 lanterns solo. I even zoned out agro on some sleeping bats and came back in den. I think the lanterns go out on a time basis, but it is reset each time you light another lantern.

Please note that you DO NOT need 4 lanterns to zone to the BC. Our group did it with 3. They key is to have someone light torch, run back to altar of Rancor, re-light the lantern and come light final torch. Theoretically you could do this with only 2 Lanterns following the same strategy. I doubt the lanterns would stay lit long enough to do this with only 1 lantern however.

Since you seem to need to kill tonberries to get these unlit lanterns and paintbrushes, doesn't that mean you need to..Do the gold beastcoin mini quest anyway?

2 RDMs from my ls and I decided to organize a party and head to the temple to try it. Here was the set-up.

62 RDM
60 RDM
62 WHM
67 PLD
63 SAM
62 BLM

We only had 3 lanterns so a friend of mine had to go back and get the flame again. We planned for the RDMs to keep the BLM and SMN asleep while we slowly beat the THF > BLM > SMN

the THF: Took the longest to kill. His perfect Dodge annoyed us but was nothing major. It was "Everyone's Rancor" that K.O.ed our PLD 2287 dmg ._. Then the SAM tanked for the rest of the fight, we beat the THF and then I raised the PLD and he ran off into a corner and waited for weakness to wear. I got a few tics of MP and then we started on the BLM

BLM: Was the easiest. Killed him with his low EVA and low DEF. With Silence on he was a cake walk.

SMN: By keeping the elemental asleep, he wasn't too hard...until he 2 houred. WARNING, the SMNs two hour is not based on the elemental, but the tonberry will actually summon an avatar at random, have it 2 hour, and dismiss it within 5 seconds. this killed the PLD again who didn't have weakness wear. and I used Benediction at this point and everyone was back to full HP. Finished the SMN

Total time of battle 10 minutes 37 seconds, not bad.

Have fun. =)

We just attempted this quest last night with one full party and one full alliance, and things were well at first....until we got to deep into the temple. Not only did i spend 80k for sneaks and inv's (oils/and powders), but i spent a good 5-6 hours doin this quest...and didn't complete it. When we first arrived at the castle everyone seemed set and ready to do the quest, and we were but some people were unprepared and it caused us a loss.
The first thing that took some time was getting the Lanterns that some people lied and said they had when we shouted in Jeuno. We had to get another full set of four flames that didn't take that long, but dont lie and say you have something that u really dont cause then it hinders the whole team. After we walked through a bit (after obtaining the lanterns) one of our people didn't have Sneaks/Inv's to keep themselves up so they had to rely on the mages to keep them safe (no offense) but i know u guys dont enjoy doing that ne ways all the time. So occasionally she would get aggro and we would be held up to fight when we could have been progressing through the temple. This really wasn't a problem to much, but she should have been prepared to keep her self safe.

So after several aggro's by the horrid bees, and the yoda lookin Tonberry's, and people occationally not following directions we finally got to the place we needed to go to light our lanterns. Now by this point there were about 4 people left in the team i was in, and the other team was still full, and it was about 3:00am EST. There must of been some server problems yesterday cause people kept getting disconnected from the server constanly and not comming back (and that is how we lost most of our people). By this point people were restless and getting sick of each other especially this whm and this theif, it was quite amusing. We also were getting restless in battle smarts and strateges. Everyone that had the lanterns had the same plan rush in with sneak/invs grab your flame and run like hell! And we did that but from everyone being tired and fatigued in RL some of us lost focus and i admit i was one of those people. Since some of our people (that eventually came back) were d/c'd at the moment there was onyl a few people who had the Lanterns and it was me DRK, and two PLDs. So we ran in found the torch and ran to the back of it to trade our lanterns and they got it just fine, but i dropped my sneak/invs just as the bat was circling back around (room had two bombs, and a bat) And got Aggro'd. The PLDs managed to get the hate off of me so i could trade the lantern and i did get the flame but then things got ugly. The Bombs started to attack us also while we were fighting the bat. I know you guys know when u get that feeling that no 1 is going to make it out of this fight alive, or you know u are going to die...these thoughts ran through my while i watched my screen and how the fight was going. And then it happend BAM one of the PLD's go down, and on the other side near the zone our party yelling RUN RUNN RUN RUN didn't really set in to us when we were fighting, because it was either us or the WHOLE team. The Bat was almost finished off with the PLD holding hate for all 3 of them, he used his 2hour to hold them off a lil longer. At this point i knew it was my time to go i Berserk/Last Resort Guillotine!! for over 900 dmg on the bat killing it, but at the same time being hit by one of his attacks taking my life along with his. At this point the PLD started running and eventually made it to the zone. The time was now 3:45 or so....
Now me and the dead PLD are laying here in the quiet but dangerous torch room reading the /party's comments on what just happend and how long its taking to do the quest and so on and so forth. Now mind you i have to go to work in the morning (in a matter of fact im at work right now typing this, 17 years old Ford Motor Company Internship ^^) but luckily they are leinant and i can just come in anytime i want to pretty much, but argueing wasn't going to solve our problems at this point. So after waiting for some of our people to get back on Mainly One of our Whm's something else bad happens OUR Dead PLD D/c's. The first thing that ran through everyone's mind was "he is not comming back is he". So here i am dead and alone in the torch room while the rest of the party (btw there are now 3 ppl left in the team im in) tries to figure out what to do. This was when the true team spirit came in when they devised a "rescue mission" for me so we could finish the quest. We all talked and at this point most of us have already stayed up past their limit into the morning, lost major xp, and got mad at someone else so why waste it and stop now?
So with some lifting words mainly one stated by our BLM "We will not leave anyone behind!, we will finish this together we have come 2 far to lose now!" i felt that everyone had finally came together to finish this quest.

After about 15 mins of talking about what to do, they finally had a game plan.

1. everyone who still needed torch will sneak/ivs up and get to the room undetected and w8 for further instructions.

2. Our Whms will run up with s/i on into the tunnel and prepare for tractor's and raises.

3. Our Theif will run in and grab all the hate and run like Hell with flee while the blm's and the whms tractor us into the tunnel and prepare for raises.

Now....I know some of you are looking at this like some plan -_- and some of you are looking like ok sounds good enough, well ur both right..Plans like this only seem to go wrong with the smallest mistake and i have noticed that alot in my time playing ffxi. The mistake that went wrong was this Remember that person who didn't have oils/powders i mentioned earlier...well she just happend to have a torch /sigh so she ran in with the buffs on but didnt know how to get the flame buffs droped and she was aggro'd >.< she couldn't run so she just accepted the death.

The Thief then ran in and grabbed all the hate and rushed out leaving time for the whm to raise the girl..and um wait what about me???

So then the girl Ran in lit her torch got s/i from the whm and ran for the zone. Now u know im sitting here like wtf hurry raise me! but the mobs somehow came back so fast the mages all had to sneak up again. But one thing i will always remember while playing this game is timing is everything...one of the whms casted s/i 2 late and got aggro'd by a bat tried to run but died..Quick. Our Rdm then ran in and tried to chainspell to get the whm back to life..but failed and died near the zone.. Thats 2 more people dead plus me who had been dead for a while..Now there was another problem arising my home point timer. I had 10 mins to be brought back to life before i was to be forced home. The surviving party members managed to raise the rdm (who was close to zone) and the other whm (who was in the tunnel), but my time was running short. The Theif and the BLM went for the same plan again (the one listed above) and this time it finally worked even though i had to settle for a Raise 1. We all celebrated that we were all alive again and shared a couple of jokes on how we wanted to whoop the *shisssh* out of the Ark Angels while our weaknesses wore off.

After our weaknesses wore off we buffed up and headed off for the last part lighting the Lights in the pillars. After running around for a bit slightly getting lost we all finally made it to the last room.

Well Ladies and Gents this was the moment of truth if we failed now its over..These situations are what FFXi is really about. As we looked down at the light posts we had to light surrounded by a sea of Mobs we all said our goodbyes early because if we didn't make this its over... We all buffed up picked which torch we were each going to light and prayed. As we waited until everyone buffed there was silence in the chat box, then a "GO!" appeared in the box and we all ran down into the pit of mobs. The Blm immediatley started to cast Sleepaga 2 on the mobs but kept getting hit. I was aggro'd by some bats and ran to light my torch. As we ran up to the door the PLD was tanking all the mobs pretty much while the mages tried to cast sleep. The thief shouted "MINE IS LIT" followed by The PLD "LIT GO GO GO" then Me "I GOT IT" but the fourth was not lit. We were all dying and yelling "Light it Light it HURRY!" someone was in a frenzy and didnt light the torch, and i still do not know who it was. AS we all were dying Something Happened, The final torch was lit and the door was opened. Everyone yelled RUNNNNN!! and the RDM and The Girl (which was a SAM) made it in. As the rest of us tried to run in we were suddenly stopped by a SLEEPAGA 2 on us! We all screamed NOO, but just when i thought it was over we got one more breath of life from The Life Saving WHM 2hr Benediction! we all woke up and rushed for the Door.

And Just Seconds mere Seconds before we made it in it CLOSED! This sent a shock through everyone as we looked on the otherside of the door at or Sam and our now dead RDM. we all turned around and faught the battle to the end, 1st with the defeat of the THF, followed by the WHMs, PLD, and Me with the level down message appearing above my head.

With only one survivor it was over, as some returned home and some staying (because one whm had reraise) it was a fight to remember we struggled between people dc'ing, people unprepared, and people fatigued, and made it pretty far. We had enough of a full team of people who were willing to go on when the WHM came back from being afk for 30mins. I said i was game but i told them i would turn my speakers up to hear Raise if i got it, but i was going to lay down for a min. I looked at the clock reading 5:00am and layed down only to wake up finding myself in Lower Jeuno in a crowd of people with nothing more than a lvl down, money lowered, and a unlit lantern. I then looked and logged off and got ready for a long day at work...

Ok we did it with only 3 lanterns last night. It involved me running back dropping invisible infront of two angry bombs (and not getting aggro), then running to light the 4th. There is enough time to do this, you just have to be very careful.

So in theory you could do this with only 2 lanterns, if your lantern holders know how to not get aggro.

Just a tip (didn't see it posted, not that I looked at everything).

Just beat it yesterday. Took a couple of hours but that was 'cause people wouldn't stick together and follow the party leader. Once we got to the BC it was cake. Our party set up was: RDM x5 and Blm. Blm was on sleepga duty at first, once they were all asleep 'cept the thf we nuked the thf til dead, then we nuked the smn and slept, nuked and slept and rinse repeat on the blm took 10 min very safe and easy. well good luck to all yall hope I helped.

I cannot thank enough SharkESP for his little quide. I printed down the instructions, no map, and we did great. Thank you so much.

So, finally after I did major research on this, and being tired of loosing exp without even getting a lattern, I made my [/shout] in Jeuno pickup party. And the people that responded proved to be so great. Not the best setup but meh, it worked as charm.
DRK62, RDM72/BLM, PLD69, PLD66/WHM, RNG66, me.
We make the second Pld sub whm to help for healing.

The worst part was, waiting the remaining 2 latterns to drop, took about 2:30 hours.
The key drops easily from the cutters so dont worry about the drop rate.
My biggest concern was that if our Rdm/Blm can sleep the Smn and the Blm gob at the BCNM, silence the Smn's avatar and at the same time heal our tank/DD's. But he did so great (he converted mid battle). When the fight was over we were all at red hp. We did ZM4 with only one death.

Ok just some tips:

- the safest spot to pull maledictors is the secret room at I-8
- reseting hate is crucial
- when you find the Altar room in Den of Rancor, bombs and bats will wait for you. Dont try to trade your lattern w/o killing them, its pointless you will get aggro anyway. Take care at least of the bombs, as you can avoid bats by sneaking. Camp in the tunnel at H-6 and kill one by one.
- same thing with the door before Sac.Chamber.
kill one by one the tomberies, and the bats.
Good luck.

P.S. The CS at the end kicks ***.

When you need to get the Rancor Flame and light the lanterns, I think it's helpful to have the following macro:

'Item Macro'

/item "Unlit Lantern" <t>
/item "Rancor Flame" <t>

It'll only trade what you currently have in your inventory, so you can fit both lines in one macro. Use this to target the Altar of Rancor and the Lanterns in front of the Sacrificial Chamber. It sure beats fumbling around to trade things while your PT may dying (as ours was).

Did this last night. Only one of us had a lantern (few ppl forgot to bring theirs), so it took a couple hours just to get through the gate. That was the 'hard' part. The NM battle was a bit crazy. PT set up was this: 61PLD (me), 64BLM, 63BLM, 70RDM, 65SAM, 64SMN. Sleepga2+ES put the SMN and BLM ton's to sleep, so we focused on the THF. Once the THF was done, a BLM of ours DC's ><; So we go after the SMN at this point, and he|| breaks loose. I 2hr, allowing everyone to super nuke and 2hr as well. 2 survived, the SMN and RDM, but the SMN was lagging and was able to get off astral flow, which raped the remaining ton's. Needless to say, it was a bit nerve racking, but I wanted to share this so ppl know that you dont need 6 ppl of 65+ with uber gear and super RNG's, etc... it can be done with less, albeit much more challenging.
Btw, the BLM that d'c came back after we all D2 out of there :). He's a LS buddy but was able to open the gate for other LS members that wanted to do this making it a bit easier for the second run of ppl.
Can't do the fight twice!!!!?!??!?!

We did this mission today on Unicorn. We had a major problem. We were under the impression that once the first group was finished the blm (me), the rng, and the paladin could go back and do the fight again with the other members of the alliance.
Once we finished the fight we were transported to another area of the sacrificial chamber where we could not get back into the bc and our alliance members were nowhere in sight. When we zoned out, we were in the temple, not den of rancor. We had no map and no way to get back to the other area, especially without the paintbrush and such.
Maybe I'm wrong and there is some way to get back there that is quick but this is just a warning to all who are about to attempt this. If there is a way, please post here so others can know.
To those who went all that way just to have to turn back, (I'm sorry) (;.;)
A step by step guide to this mission.

Step 1: Enter through the main entrance, and hug the left wall till you zone out to yhoator.

Step 2: Re-enter the Temple onto f-7. Only one map has a zone at f-7, so picking up where you are on an online map is easy. Follow the left wall until you hit H-8, then take the south fork and go around this loop until you find a safe camp to pull maledictors without aggroing dolls. If you have someone in your party stupid enough to aggro a doll more than once, disband immediately and reform with competent people. Meltdown can easily cause a full wipe.

Step 3: Once you have 4 total lanterns, over the entire party or alliance, escape out.

Step 4: Send everyone to Norg, and trade 3 gold beastcoins to Magephaud. The NMs at the end of this mission do about 10x the amount of damage with Everyone's Grudge that normal tonberrys do. A 2000+ Everyone's grudge on your tank will produce a guarenteed wipe. You have been warned.

Step 5: Choco back to uggalepih, and follow the right wall until you hit the fork at g-7. Go south, camp the big room for cutters, until you have a key. Go into the room to the NW and get your paintbrush. You need one paintbrush per party/alliance.

Step 6: Once you have acquired your paintbrush, Follow the right wall to f-11 and talk to the priest to reset your tonberry hate. Escape out, and from this point on DO NOT fight any tonberrys. My group claimed Calling for Help would keep us from accruing more hate, and I can not confirm this.

Step 7: Escape out, zone into the temple, and follow the right wall all the way to Yhoator.

Step 8: Zone into the temple (I-5 entrance) turn west, and follow the left wall all the way to the temple guardian. Crawlers do not aggro.

Step 9: Kill the guardian, invis up, and follow the left wall until you come to the paintbrush room.

Step 10: Have your brush man check the empty painting. The door takes about 2 mins to open.

Step 11: Pat yourself on the back for making it to the Den of Rancor. Bats aggro sound, tonberrys are VT to a level 63 and run in packs. I hope you cleared out all the idiots that doon't know how to avoid aggro. Reach through the net cable and slap anyone who didn't bring oil and powder (tonko).

Step 12: follow the right wall to the open space, and take the west leading Southwest hallway. Follow this path from f-7 to e-5, and light your lanterns by trading the unlit lantern to the altar.

Step 13: Return to H-4, and take the path east. Follow the right wall to map 2 and all the way to the 4 lanterns (this is the northmost wall on map 2).

Step 14: Light the lanterns, have the entire group (party or alliance) go through.

Step 15: Welcome to the Sacricial Chamber. Pat yourself on the head, and remember these tips for the fight.

A: If you didn't reset your hate, don't tank this fight. If Everyone's grudge in the den did 300, like it did to me, you will take 3000 from the NM's.
B: Your first action should be Sleepga 2 or Sleepga. DO not pull them with a melee first, because some will cast, some will move, and you will miss a sleep in the process. This can be deadly.
C: Keep everything silenced but the thief, and keep anything you aren't killing slept at all times. It is more vital your blm, brd, or rdm keep everything slept than anything else.
D: Make your WHM keep reraise up, and DO not let him use it unless you all wipe and everything is a long way away, or you are thrown out of the BC. Our 70Whm was brilliant enough to raise himself while still fighting the NM's, and got whacked again in one hit. Result: Everyone homepointed. It's a sad, sad world when people get this far without common sense. If you don't have common sense, wait till you do before attempting this mission.

I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but this is a long and difficult mission. DOn't waste the time of your group by not bringing powders or oils, or forgetting to reset hate, or causing trains of VT's in the Den. Run to a tractorable area and die if you get aggro your group can't handle. Do not come unprepared, because nothing's worse than wasting 5 hours of 12 people's time because you don't know what bats aggro to.

Getting to the Battlefield is harder than the actual fight... and even getting to the Battlefield isn't hard as long as people know what they're doing and listen to orders. I did this Mission twice and passed on the second try. Getting the lanterns and brush is really easy so I wont even get into that:

My first time the party was a little thrown together: Range from 58-68

War/Nin (me)
War/Nin
Rdm/Blm
Whm/Blm
Rng/Nin
Thf/Nin

The fight was going pretty well considering we didn't have a very powerful sleep spell. We killed the Thf with little trouble (though the Rng ate a 2k Everyone's Rancor) and focused on the Blm. Of course by this time the Smn was awake as well and the mages couldn't keep it asleep so the Rdm and Thf died from spells cast by the pet. Me, the other War, and the Whm are barely alive when the Smn used Astral Flow, killed the Whm and brought me and the War to dangerously low health. The Smn was at half HP so I fired off my 2hr and died almost instantly when I pulled hate. The lone War got the Smn down to maybe 5% HP and died himself. Lesson learned, we just decided to come back later.

A few days later I saw a shout that some people were looking to do ZM4 and the already had 2 lanterns and a brush. I grabbed mine and told the War I was with the last time (he's in my LS) what was going on. We both join the party and grab a few more members before looking up what where to go and heading out: Range from 63-69

Pld/War
War/Nin
War/Nin
Sam/Thf
Whm/Blm
Blm/Whm

It was pretty much overkill. With Sleepga II we could take our time fighting one NM at a time still going with the Thf -> Blm -> Smn order. The War only came close to death when he ate a Throat Slash and the Sam took a full force Judgement Bolt near the end of the fight. The Thf only took a few minutes to kill because of Perfect Dodge, but he went down with minimal effort. We go over to the Blm and go to town with a 1k Rampage and a 1k Raging Rush. A few more spells and hits killed him off. Once we got to the Smn the fight was going well and it was pretty obvious that it was going to die fast when it used Astral Flow once again and took us all to half health, killing the Sam in the process (580ish damage, the rest took 304 or less). After that we enjoyed out kickass cutscene.

Having done this twice here are some things I noticed:

- You don't need two stacks of powers/oils. I got through using maybe 3/4 of a stack of oils and that's because I used some when it wasn't necessary. As long as people know where they're going and follow orders it shouldn't take that many items. Naturally when you have a big alliance things are going to take a little longer to get done so then you might want to consider buying an extra stack. However, since only one party can fight at a time anyway and there isn't a single thing that needs more than 6 people I don't see the point in dragging a full alliance down there.

- You don't necessarily have to reset Tonberry hate. You should really only do it if you're going to be tanking or if you have a feeling that you'll wind up pulling hate. In my second pass our Sam was the only one who reset hate, but also the only one who died from Astral Flow instead of Everyone's Rancor (which I don't think was used). I'm not certain if SE fixed it, but if you aren't looking for an item Call For Help on every Tonberry you fight to avoid gaining hate.

- If you're fast you don't have to fight stuff. Aside from the room where you use the paintbrush you can pretty much avoid combat in the rest of the areas. When you go to get a Rancor Flame wait for the bombs to turn around and move away from you then just trade your lantern, invis, and run. When you go to light the 4 torches all you have to do is wait for the tonberries to move out of range or turn around. You can also tag anything nearby with a sleepga spell or just hope people lite the torches fast and run for it. Fighting everything in the room is a good way to get everyone killed.

- Treat it as if it were a normal exp party. That means bring your best gear and the proper foods. A lot can go wrong very easily in this Mission so you need to always be on your toes. For melee you have a lot less chance of the entire party dying if you eat food and wear gear that allows you to do as much damage as possible. Something like Astral Flow wont have a chance to kill you if you rip the Smn apart for example.

- Don't bother killing the Smn's pet, just keep it asleep or silenced. When you kill the Smn the pet will automatically die and even if you kill the elemental the Smn can and will use Astral Flow anyway. I've read that the pet's element is random, but it probably takes the element of whatever day it is. Regardless have your Whm (if you have one) cast the proper barspells or your Brd (again, if you have one) use the correct Carol.

ZM4:
It took us FIVE FREAKING HOURS to do this and we didn't even get to do it for everyone. Hopefully, people can learn from the mistakes that were made so no one has to go through this again.

EVERYONE needs at least two stacks of sneak oils and prism powders. I CANNOT stress this enough.
Last night someone decided that they didn't have the money for them and was just going to rely on everyone else's generosity/mage support and this added a good three hours on to the mission as we had to end up fighting EVERYTHING the non sneak/invis person aggroed. This was unbelievably frusterating.

Make sure that everyone you're going with knows to listen to the person who is leading. It's amazing, you'd think that when people are in the 60's levels they'd know how to follow a party leader. The leader of this alliance, even though he was the linkshell leader of many of the people involved, was hardly listened to. It was really unbelievable. People were running around killing things FOR THE FUN OF IT.

Anyway, what ended up happening is one group of 6 got to finish it but the group of four didn't because when you escape from the Sacrificial Chamber, you escape alllll the way out to the Jungle. Yeah. There was no way the tank and myself (the white mage) could get back to the other four (we didn't have maps, and there were several key monster groups you had to defeat along the way, which wouldn't have been possible for a pld/whm even if we did know the way. I felt horrible for them, 5 hours for nothing. So make sure that you go with a full party, if allianced two full parties. But each party has to be complete within itself.

so to recap:

1. bring at least two stacks of sneak invis. you HAVE TO DO THIS
2. don't go killing stuff just for the "fun of it."
3. all your melee's have to bring 3 gold beast coins. it's about 60k for all three right now
4. listen to the party leader, don't just go running off because you're impatient.

I honestly think this mission can easily be done in two hours if everyone does simply what they are supposed to do.

In the BCNM fight, keep the BLM and SMN slept and silenced. The important thing the guide missed was the Smn's elemental. You have to silence this guy, he took out 3 memmbers of the party at once.

Our fight was pretty close. Setup was PLD70, BLM, BLM RDM RNG and me (DRG/whm). Everyone other than the pld was somewhere between 60 and 70. Anyway, we went in, buffed, hit Sleepga 2, and got to work on the THF. After Perfect Dodge and a few minutes, the THF was almost dead, bun one-shotted the PLD with Everyone's Rancor for 1400. We finished off the THF and I started beating on the SMN, while we put the BLM to sleep. But we had all taken a few hits since I was sub whm and couldn't voke, so the Astral Flow took out a BLM and the RNG, and left me with 600 HP and two mages with about 200 each.
Luckily I had 2hr in reserve, so I called my wyvern back and began healing frantically while soloing the SMN. Then BLM mob woke up and took out our BLM, bringing us down to two against two. After about two minutes of hitting and Dias, I finished off the SMN and we slept the BLM mob, giving us time to rest. From here, we were able to raise and recover, eventually winning the battle.
I heard so much bad stuff about ZM4, but that had to be one of the most exciting battles I can remember. I don't think I've ever come back from 4 dead before. A hell of a rush.
