Battle Notes

To begin, trade 99 Kindred Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno to obtain the Rare/Ex item Themis Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that a full alliance can enter the battlefield, that there is no level cap for this quest, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Chlevnik, a Behemoth type mob.

In order to spawn the Armoury Crate, Chlevnik must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

A common strategy involves a similar setup alliance setup as one would take to fight King Behemoth, using a couple Paladins (usually subbing Ninja with White Mages and Red Mages, and an assortment of Black Mages and melee jobs.

Upon entering the battlefield, a Paladin will run in first and use Flash to draw hate on Chlevnik, then proceed to run him towards the exit as the melee and black mages start doing damage to him. Whenever Chlevnik begins to cast Meteor, it is suggested to use a command to determine what member of the alliance has hate, and have that person start running away as quickly as they can while the rest of the alliance attempts to avoid it by running in the opposite direction. As Chlevnik is casting, having the other Paladin draw hate on him often helps to interrupt its casting.

  • Be advised though that Chlevnik has a tendency to use Thunderbolt prior to using Meteor, so it is recommended to keep hp levels up as best you can in case you must survive a Thunderbolt/Meteor combo.

Just continue to deal damage and attempt to keep the Meteor damage to a minimum and Chlevnik will eventually fall.

  • Be advised, after its hp drops to zero, Chlevnik will instant cast an exceptionally powerful Meteor that will most assuridely kill anyone in range, so it is recommended to have one BLM or melee with TP to finish Chlevnik off and one Paladin with hate on it to pull it in one direction while the rest of the alliance moves out of range.

Treasure Hunter...
# Apr 30 2007 at 9:28 PM Rating: Decent
I'd just like to point out that BCNM's and KSNM's, Treasure Hunter will have no effect on drops because they come out of a treasury crate. Most likely drops are determined at the defeat of the mob, and placed baced on percentages of the drop rate given to the item in question. It also could be that the drops are determined upon entry of the BCNM or KSNM itself. It could be determined at the time of opening the crate. I do know this from the multiple BC'sand KS's that i've done, that the number of items and type of items usually don't change i.e. there is always the same number of crafting items, weapons, armor, etc. in each crate. My theory is that if like 1 weapon drops, there is the weapon that no one wants which has a high percentage, then the decent ones with slightly lower, then the big one that everyone wants with a bad drop rate. This apply's to all types of drops. Thats just my theory though.

my god.. did this twice w/ my LS tonight.. 0/2 We had a good set up

5blm/whm/rdm
2whm/smn
3rng/sam
2nin/war
1pld/war
3rdm/blm
1mnk/whm
1war/nin

Plenty of damage, but the casting time of meteor was stupidly fast.. 2-3 seconds, 52% on lightsday. I've done this 5-6 times but this was pwnga.

Having now done this KS99 many times over, I can comfortably say it can be done with any set-up, with a couple of basics.

you'll need two tanks with as much emnity gear as possible, Paladins suit the job better but Ninjas work to.
Healers.
Refreshers
DD - the DD can be anything, blm, sum, melee

You dont need Blackmages for this KS99, Melee DD will put out numbers on par with blackmages through basic melee and WS's.

The mob, is similar to KB, the only thing to worry about is meteor.
His melee attacks while strong (strong enough to 2 shot mages) shouldnt be worrid about, they do have additonal effect stun, with a healthy procreation rate, but on tanks and melee they do in the region of 150-300 damage, lower on the paladins.

The most invaluable tool for this fight, is a hate macro, this macro should be used on a regular basis, almost spammed so that your alliance always knows who hate is targetted on.
Whenever you see him cast meteor, you run away from whoever has hate, 90% of the time this will be a paladin/tank and he'll run out of range and meteor wont even be cast.
The other 10% of the time it will be on whoever nuked to hard or a melee doing to much damage - You see his name in the hate macro - you run away from him and he runs away as fast as he can to try to get out of range.

The mob isnt very evasive and sushi + a little acc gear will give most melee a 85-90% connect rate.
Myself using mnk/whm or mnk/thf I was hitting in the region of 50-70 a fist and 100+ on crits.
while /whm asuran fists was doing 400-600 dependant on accuracy and while /thf Dragon kicks were doing 600-900
Samurais were putting out 1000-1200 gekkos etc... so you can see hes relativly weak to melee, and even though hes kited just stay unlocked and run slightly ahead of him, use WS's when he stops to Cast or stops to do a TP move.

meteor should only be a problem, if he does his AoE stun move, then casts, otherwise you should always get out of range.
Damage from meteor depends greatly on how many people it hits, if it only hits one person, your going down - if its several people the damage is reduced.

He will cast a very strong Meteor on his dieing breath @ 1%, choose one person to deal the finishing blow, the rest of you get out of range to avoid unnessisary deaths.

SO the simple broken down stratergy:

1. 2 Paladins kite up and down the path leading to and from the bcnm circle
2. Mages, support, magic DD stand on either side of the path and do your thing as the behemoth passes you. DONT block yor kiters path.
3. Melee follow behemoth trying to stay ahead of his animation for constsnt melee, WS when he stops to cast or performs a TP move, I reccommened /thf or /whm (for stoneskin and ghetto healing)
4. Have several people with a Hate macro, use it often so that all alliance members know who is targetted
5. He starts to cast meteor, get out of range of whoever he is casting on, and if hes casting on you, DONT run towards your alliance, get the spell away from people.

He casts often, and the danger spots are when the Kiters have to change directions at either end of the kiting path.

The way to ovecome any diffculties is as follows.

1 Both tanks should have equal hate and be kiting together.

2. when you see the end of the kiting path, the paladin with hate should continue running and the one without should stop and let the behemoth pass.

3. Once the behemoth has passed, the paladin without hate, should provoke and flash and continue to kite in the opposite direction.

4. the Behemoth will 90% of the time start to cast meteor at this point, the paladin should have ample time to get out of range, and the other paladin has time to run past the behemoth and get back onto the kiting path.

Other tips.

Gravity works wonder, but he will build up resistance, so its best to save it until you need to recover, if your confident, use it from the start because the fight wont last very long.
Tanks down? bind it, then gravity and have anyone /war kite until tanks are back up.

Over a 3 week period we did 18 runs, we have done runs like this before so the total is higher, but the last set we did time wise we went from our first run being 25 mins to our final run being 14 mins.

Goodluck

this is an excellent post and ill have to try it, wanted to point out one thing though. you said it can be done with pretty much any setup, and then laid out the setup as:
2 tanks
healers
refreshers
DD
so, basicly, what youre saying is.....18whms cant kill this?(please note the sarcasm)

All he's saying is that you don't absolutely need any particular job for the KSNM, like you don't need 12 BLM or something ridiculous like that. The "setup" that he listed includes basically everyone in the game, so it's not going to be specific to any particular job.

My LS takes pretty much that, usually a nice amount of BLM (enough to justify a BLM party). The PLD try to keep hate but it doesn't happen sometimes; the BLM and melee aren't afraid to kite. I believe we brought him down in 13 minutes with 14 people the one time... the key is just to not get Meteored. People have to know what to do when hate goes awry. Be careful not to get cornered in the two ends of the BC, either. That's why it's good to have more than one or two kiters so that they can take hate when the other is out of room.

Yeah i was reading the post and the top 1 that list all the drops seems to de exagerrated. I have done this fight many many times with my ls. The reason i say this the g.katana 3 times..sounds funny to me. I have never seen it drop in any fight and this is with multiple thfs carrying thf knifes and af2 hands to achieve TH4..not 3 not 2 but TH4. Trust me id like to believe that drop rate but i seriosly dont. Weve even tried 4 leaf mandy buds and lucky eggs just for kicks to see if drop rate would jump up but it didnt. Like I said id love to believe ya but i dont sry. Peace out from #1 HNMLS on DIABLOS--DARKSTATIC

Is a FULL alliance really needed for this one? My only worry is that it would take 1-2hrs to grab that many people (if it wasnt a LS event or something) and probably another like 9 hours to kill him 18 times for each person's orb >.>

Did this last night 9 times and it was hella fun. We cleared each fight under 20min every time so it isn't that hard to kill him if you have a good setup. Move he does a lot is his Meteor but it really doesn't get anyone unless PLD's lose hate or when the PLD turns around to turn kite direction. He also likes to do an AOE stun move when you first pull him so make sure only kiters are up top when you start to kite. Another move he likes to do is his blaze spikes but thats really a problem if you got a RDM or BRD that knows what he is doing. He resists Stun a lot and you can't stun his final Meteor that he does when he dies. The drops that I can remember are

Shinsoku x3 (17m)
Kriegsbeil (15m)
Behemoth Hide (6m)
Guespiere (5m)
Dreizack (4m)
Divine Log (4m)
Bayards Sword (3m)
Purgatory Mace (3m)
Angel Lyre (2m)
Behemoth Horn x6 (800k)
Gawain's axe (700k)
Raxa (180k)
Lacquer tree log (100k+)(forget the price)
Hi-Potion +3 x6 (40k)
Platinum Ore (35k)
Gold Ore x3 (25k)
Petrified Log (25k)
Charisma potion (10k)
Mahogany Log (10k)
Coral Fragment (6k)
Meteor Cesti
Zen Pole x2
Nokizaru Shuriken
Philosiphers Stone x5
Harlequin's Horn x3
Behemoth Tongue x3(for black belt quest)(Our LS got its first black belt)

Did 5 or 6 runs last week on this. Minimum loot we've always seen is about 6-7m, so based off my experiences with KS30 Scorps (typically 1 claw/6 runs), it's always better to do KS99 over 3x KS30's.

Aside from the minimum, you can really really score big. I hit the motherlode on my orb:
Unsho (40m)
Shinsoku (17.5m)
Behemoth Hide (6m)
Behemoth Horn (1.6m)
Raxa (180k)
Hi-Potion +3 (40k)
Gold Ore (25k)
Petrified Log (25k)
Ruby (70k)
Forget last item

Bazaar'd the weapons so no huge AH fee loss. Net total was 65,500,000g.

A couple people got minimum loot (6-7m) and a couple people got around 20m in loot (Kriegs/Shinsoku +Hide and such)
Behemoth Hides (6m) were pretty common, we got 4 out of the 5-6 runs.
red mage one

we made 18 runs, and we got ALWAYS the Zen pole and that rare Axe. benemoth tungue never drop

deadly combo
# Apr 06 2005 at 8:15 PM Rating: Decent
Chlevnik use a deadly combo wich is an AOE that stun (with really huge range) then Meteor (smaller range but huge dmg). Actualy if you can avoid the stun (wich stun for about 5-10 sec) Meteor is not too hard to run from. As all stun attacks, it is lightning element attack... /bow White mage.

The actual record on Odin is 4min54sec (i guess it was a blm alliance @.@).

My LS did six runs yesterday. Once you get the strategy down for it its pretty easy. The kiting area sucks, and thats probably the biggest problem, but with two good tanks it isnt a big deal. Really a fun fight. I havnt fought KB yet, but i'm guessing KB may be a bit easier, because the kiting area is alot bigger.

It's pretty much like fighting King Behemoth, with a couple exceptions:

-Lower HP
-Meteor seems about 70% the strength of KB's
-Meteor is cast twice as often as KB
-Meteor is cast twice as fast as KB
-Kiting area sucks
-Time limit

All in all, I'd say he is harder than KB. The time limit means you can't take your time (he still has alot of HP, just less than KB.) He seems to use alot more JA's.
