Summary

The Sahagin have stolen Mitsunari's treasure and hid it somewhere in the jungle on Elshimo Island. It is your job to find it.

Walkthrough

Note: To begin this quest, you must first complete 20 in Pirate Years - NIN AF1 and I'll Take The Big Box - NIN AF2.

Head to H-8 in Norg and talk to Ryoma.

Next, head to Yhoator Jungle. Examine the ??? at I-7, and three NM Sahagin will spawn: Kappa Akuso, Kappa Biwa and Kappa Bonze. Kill them and examine ??? again to get a key item, Old trick box.

Take the box to Ryoma and he then sends you to Rabao to talk with Leodarion. He sends you to Kuftal Tunnel to find and open a coffer.

Head to Kuftal Tunnel and find a Kuftal coffer key. The keys drop from Cave Worms, Deinonychuses, Haunts, Recluse Spiders, Robber Crabs, Sand Lizards and Scavenger Crabs, which are fished.

Next, find a treasure coffer. The coffers spawn on the first map (with the zone to Western Altepa Desert) at H-7 and H-6, and on the larger second map at K-11, G-9, H-9, J-7, J-8, I-4, F-6 and D-9.

Open the coffer and you will get a key item Large Treasure Chest. Bring it back to Leodarion and he will give you the Ninja Chainmail.

Failry easy, Just don't make the same mistake as I and have shadows up beforehand. I didn't get the chance *shakes fist at courel*. but still.
Best part of SOLOING this as Nin58/War29 is the 240 exp at the end of the fight. just REMEMBER " Kappa Biwa is the BRD". Thank you and good night.

Also for a challange for any other future Nin's do as I've done and also solo your boots. Coffer in Sea Serpent Grotto. ^^
If you are good this is not hard

I did this quest as 58NIN/29WHM. I didnt use any food or potions at all. I did wait for nightfall to get extra 10 evasion from af pants. I didnt bother to clear any of the EP. I sneaked myself and pulled the bard with Kurayami: Ni and just stayed tight to the wall until i was in tunnel. Pulled it right next to the zone and then went to town. Blind wore off 3 times and i recast and landed everytime. Other then that i just melee'd and used elemental wheel. never had to heal myself and only lost about 250 HP. It took about 10 minutes or so. All you have to do i keep your shadows up which is easy enough since it will stop to sing VERY long songs every so often. I encourage all Ninja's to try this solo at 58. If you can do this it will be something you can be proud of! Good luck!
easier than you think

I'm a 58 ninja, i did this a few days ago with 2 of my friends, one was 58whm, other was 60nin. Whm subbed smn to pulll brd, i got sneak on me, spawned the mobs and went back down the ditch. Whm pulled brd, other ninja tanked. just meleed it to death, keeping hate/utsusemi up was easy, especially with 2 tanks. took about 4 minutes to kill, the other ninja was complaining about how we were gonna die and stuff but we killed it w/o dropping under ~700 hp. went back to spawn and the others had despawned, got key item
Fight
# Mar 24 2005 at 6:11 AM Rating: Decent
Im lvl 56 ninja(Taru)Thursday night seeking party bored as hell waiting. So i decide to try and fight the sahagin brd. I only brought with me a rolandberry pie and 2 X yaguda drinks.

When i get there i spawn them wait for the whm to cast something (shell 3 or 4 on sahagin brd) i throw my shakram he comes fine, i cast kurayami my shadows are down and he decides to do the water blast thing. 570 dmg thats scared me so i just mijin gakura outta there.

2 hours later no pt i go there, eat food and pull the brd again. At first kurayami was resisted and he was draining shadows fast. 2nd kurayami and hes blin i just keep blasting away with elemental spells and keeping up blind he was faerly easy and i had heaps of mp incase i had him down half health still with both drinks left( to get down to half health it took me about 30 mins) and a 74 ninja runs past and casts cure 3 on me. I say <Help me out!>? and i invite him takes about 2 mins and the sahagins dead i run up and get the box.

It really isnt a hard battle and especially for taru subbing whm makes the batttle really easy.
Different job

I can comfirm that the glitch is still working.

Me (56 Ninja), 64 rdm, 53 rng and 60 whm just did it today.

We cleared the area first and then positioned ourself in the tunnel back there. I clicked the ??? with sneak on then ran back. Then, our rdm who subbed smn for this one sent his carbuncle and pulled the bard NM.

It was a very easy fight, apart from his special attack I never got hit once. When we were done with Bard, the others were de-spawned. SO, I clicked the ??? and got my key-item.^^

Good luck to all who'll try this.

I don't know how any of you solo'd this, it is damn near impossible to even kill one. After trying with just me and a 70 thf, we failed miserably and had to get more help. Even with setup of:

56 nin/war
70 thf/nin
75 mnk/war
66 rdm/smn (for carby pulling)
66 whm/blm

We almost got annihilated. The bard was easy enough to kill, the white mage decided to use Benediction right before he died. The monk's Hundred Fists got the 75 monk down to about 100 HP.

Waiting for the other 2 sahagins to despawn srategy did not work nor was it neccesary as we killed each sahagin in less than 1 minute. Even so, I would not recommend this without a smn or /smn to avatar pull and a very very high level paladin.

hey all! i am nin56/war28, i already want my af body. i was in Yhoator Jungle with some fellas and we tried to kill BRD few times. Well i pop them with sneak, they are not attacking. then pull BRD with something throwable (i used pebble). we kill brd easily, and i go without snake (mistake) back to ??? (Sahagins still there).aggro. we had to zone. later all the same, but after killing brd i sneaked myself, then touched ??? (other 2 depoped). it was said: Nothing unordinary here. so what went wrong?

i helped a friend with this a while ago, pretty rough fight, one of the sahagins can use hundred fists, so im not sure if u could handle that alone (perhaps u can sleep it? anyone know if they can be slept?)
the way we did it was just 1 pt on one mob at a time.
i held one mob, and other friend held the other.
save the mnk nm for last.

ok, i hope this is of some help for u, good luck with it ^^

I just solo'd the 3 sahagins as 72 WHM/BLM.... as they say, just pull the bard from maximum spell range and the other two won't agro/link. If they do, there's a zone close anyway. He ate all my MP, kept dispelling stonesking and hitting me for about 89 damage -.-
Ninja Chainmail
# Jan 03 2005 at 7:57 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to solo Kappa Biwa at level 56NIN/28WAR. It was not easy ^^; I had all my regular armor, used a Navarin because I forgot to stock up on Jack-o-Lanterns, and I also brought roughly 25 Hi-Potions with me. Extremely long battle and he hits hard, not as hard as the monk though so dont bother trying to solo the mnk. Macro'd my Hi-Potions for efficiency "/item "Hi-Potion" <me>." Waited for night so I got the extra +10 evasion. I Didnt bring any elemental tools as I didnt have any space for them :P Kurayami, Hojo and Jubaku are essential! But try not to cast them when you only have one shadow left :P Used potions when it is safe to do so.
As for the pull, you just gotta be lucky. Ive tried using a Pot of Sneak Oil and pulling with my Chakram as well as Kurayami but sometimes all three of them will follow, most of the time just the Monk and the Bard will link becuause maybe the whm is busy casting, I dont really know. If you get lucky, only the Brd will be pulled. If two or all three link, just zone into Den of Rancor and try again. If all 3 linked zone in and out of the den, sneak yourself and if you get lucky the brd will be still at the zone (which never happened to me) or he might be ahead of the others going back to the ??? (which happened a couple times) you could then safely pull him to the other end and try to solo him there. You could go as a nin/smn for a guaranteed safe pull but my smn was lvl.1 so I didnt bother. Just try not to panic and you'll do fine lol. You could also go with a bunch of friends, but wheres the fun in that? j/k. Good luck!

i believe it is /recast "spell name"

For example:
/recast "Utsusemi: Ichi"
/recast "Utsusemi: Ni"
/recast "Provoke"
/recast "Whatever else u want"

this is extremely helpful with blink tanking, as u always know the recast time on your shadows. Hope this helped.

I just wanted to make note that I did this last night. There is something that I think is very important to know. If anyone in the party zones after you have popped the NMs, it will not give you the box after 1 or all of them die. I popped them, pulled the BRD and ran near Den of Rancor zone to fight. One of the party members zoned out accidentally behind us and back in to help fight. After it was dead I ran to the ??? and it wouldn't give me the item. I zoned to Den of Rancor to see if it would remedy this and then to the ???, it only re-popped them and I had to kill again to get the key item.

This might be helpful to some people, just so you know zoning in fight will ***** it up, so refrain from anyone zoning if possible.

FYI...

For any of you planning to solo this and couldn't catch a glimpse of which NM Sahagin is which, Kappa Biwa is the BRD and Kappa Bonze is the WHM. If you are facing north (with the ??? behind you), the BRD should be the one on the right.

As a taru, the MNK is no way near soloable. I've tried the WHM one and died. Only the BRD one is doable because he'll stop here and there to sing a song--which is enough time to even cast Utsu: Ichi.

got it today, in area with friend 71drg/30whm started clearing area and when we got done another ninja lvl 57 showed up so we invited her, thankfully she had BST subbed. cleared area drg sneaked her, she pulled the BRD with a master Coerl pet we all attacked it till it was dead, fight was easy i voked every now and then to take a few hits from the drg at the beginning, of course i couldnt get hate toward the end but it didnt matter we didnt try to kill it fast or slow but when it died ran back and others had de-popped hit the ??? and done. my suggestion to anyone else doign this is jsut to find another ninja, one of you sub whm, the other sub bst or smn two ninja could solo it with ease, the fight is not so hard that one ninja couldnt solo it, it may be tough to pull and win the fight but i think its do-able, but grab a freind, and it will go much smoother.

i was in yhoater jungle today farming gold coins from goblin bouncers and decided to give it a try solo with 54nin just for practice and if i was successefull then all the better. i cleared the mobs around ??? ran up and hit it then ran back and zoned to den of rancor came back out and some BST had throws a pugil at the WHM. the whm killed the pugil in a hurry and ran off i assume after the poor bst. i saw another one hangin around still so i pulled it back to rancor zone, shoulda taken a closer look cous it happened to be the MNK >.< tanked it for about a min befor it cought me with shadows down and was hitting for 250hp a pop so i ran to the den of rancor and hid ^^ it still had about 90%hp when i ran away, and i hadnt bothered to wait for night or buy food so i was down 20 evasion already. the only question i have is wether you are supposed to make sure the other sanghin de-pop while you are fighting, or after you kill like i think somone said?

Had the very useful help of my friend (75whm). The area had plenty of mobs that were sight aggro (Torama's and Gobbies) that still conned EP.

Before clicking the ??? make sure you do not catch aggro from the other mobs (clear them out from the Den of Rancor zone), it will kill your sneak.

I don't think it matters which of the Shaghain you kill, the important part is that you take your time killing it, so that the others de-pop AFTER you kill whichever you pull. Wait until night time to get the +10 evasion from AF pants, for food I used Jack-O-Lantern.

Pull the one into the tunnel leading into the Den Of Rancor.

I've seen people killing the bard and getting the item, last night I killed the white mage and got it ... I suppose you can kill the monk and get it as well (can't imagine why you would want to with 100 fists @_@ ).

I pulled the Shaghain with Kurayami (blind) while sneaked and the others didn't flinch, this leads me to believe that a carby/pet pull is not necc. as long as you are sneaked. There are also reports of a ranged attack working.

I at level 58 had trouble landing any of my debuffs, eventually I landed Slow. This is very much where my friend came in useful.

If you're fighting the white mage silence him!

after about 5 min of std. issue blink tanking he was done for and the others were de-popped.

If blink is down they will hit hard (even the bard and white mage).

for safety's sake I re-sneaked and checked the ??? and got my key item.

We just did this battle with a BLM57, BLM55 (me), SMN60, NIN58, PLD71 and BST75 and we raped them.
They didn't listen to me when I told them the tactic mentioned above so the NIN went in, spawned them and started attacking them.
Fortunatly we killed the MNK first because the PLD was getting beat up pretty hard.
But after it was dead it was over pretty fast.

Just duo'd this as my 74 thief, could have solo'd it.

My wife (63 whm) came to help. I spawned it and ran to Den of Rancor zone, somehow lost the monk.

Killed the bard first, then the white mage.

Then went back and clicked the ??? and got my old trick box.

Just completed this with me a 53 NIN and a 60 WHM that happens to live with me.
Was really easy but a lengthy fight. Be sure to take powders to blind/slow/paralyze him. When they stick he barely attacks. When he does finally get an attack off it's normally a miss.

Cast sneak on yourself and your carbuncle casting buddy. Run up to the ??? click on it and the 3 squidlies will pop on the ledge facing the ???. Run back to the zone line and the SMN sneak and run up and carby pull the bard. I ran all the way back to the zone line and fought it there.
Pretty easy and I was only 53, no reason any nin can't do this.

Yes, you can carby pull the bard and single it out. BUT what is not mentioned is that you have to wait a while to get the CS after getting the Old Trick Box. I could not get the CS till hours later.

The reason that you probably didn't see a NIN in the group was one of them was on their higher job to do it. So long as you have the quest enabled which you need to be on NIN for, you can use any job to actually complete the quest. I did all of my RNG AF on my WHM and will be doing my NIN AF on my RNG or WHM as its just easier since those are higher level jobs. They were probably doing the same.

Supposedly you can complete the Sahagin fight without having to actually fight all three sahagin.

Sneak the NIN, and the puller (needs to be able to summon), the NIN touches the ??? and all three Sahagin spawn, get the puller to pull only the Sahagin on the right (Bard) with their Avatar.

Now, take this Bard back and fight it slowly, DO NOT kill the Sahagin before the other two have Despawned, once they have, finish it off and touch the ??? again, you should receive your "Old Trick Box".

I know a number of people who have completed it this way, however speculation has lead to some people saying that S-E fixed this so all Sahagin's must be killed. As far as I know, that's not the case.

I will be doing this quest soon myself, so I'll post the results, as well as the Jobs/Levels we used.

Ok, I completed this earlier today, and yes you can obtain the "Old Trick Box" by just defeating the bard".

I completed this with me, 56 NIN and a RDM 62, who subbed SMN to pull the bard. The Fight was pretty difficult, but nothing to worry about. The Bard attacks slowly, so can be tanked by a good NIN without too much hassle, but when he hits, he hit me for around 130-40, and the RDM for about 100.

A party of my level would have had no trouble defeating the bard, so all in all the fight is pretty easy, just make sure you don't kill it before the others despawn, sneak someone so they can check.

The Bard uses dispel a lot, it removed my protect/shell every time, so keep the mage in charge of that informed, otherwise it will hurt more than it needs to. Also, be careful of any Coeurls or Gobs in the area, they aggroed me before the fight, so you will want to clear any threat out.

Ok, that's all I have to say, Good luck fellow ninja's! Smiley: grin
