Summary

The Sahagin have stolen Mitsunari's treasure and hid it somewhere in the jungle on Elshimo Island. It is your job to find it.

Walkthrough

Note: To begin this quest, you must first complete 20 in Pirate Years - NIN AF1 and I'll Take The Big Box - NIN AF2.

Head to H-8 in Norg and talk to Ryoma.

Next, head to Yhoator Jungle. Examine the ??? at I-7, and three NM Sahagin will spawn: Kappa Akuso, Kappa Biwa and Kappa Bonze. Kill them and examine ??? again to get a key item, Old trick box.

Take the box to Ryoma and he then sends you to Rabao to talk with Leodarion. He sends you to Kuftal Tunnel to find and open a coffer.

Head to Kuftal Tunnel and find a Kuftal coffer key. The keys drop from Cave Worms, Deinonychuses, Haunts, Recluse Spiders, Robber Crabs, Sand Lizards and Scavenger Crabs, which are fished.

Next, find a treasure coffer. The coffers spawn on the first map (with the zone to Western Altepa Desert) at H-7 and H-6, and on the larger second map at K-11, G-9, H-9, J-7, J-8, I-4, F-6 and D-9.

Open the coffer and you will get a key item Large Treasure Chest. Bring it back to Leodarion and he will give you the Ninja Chainmail.

Easy with Trusts
# Jan 06 2015 at 7:45 PM Rating: Decent
I seen that no one has posted information on the NM fight recently. Did this fight as 75THF/NIN with three trusts, Trion/Ayame/Kupipi and it was a cake walk. Beat all three NM's starting with the BRD then WHM then MNK. MNK two hour hit Trion many times, but he's a decent tank. I drew hate with SA Dancing Edge, but it was miss miss miss at that point. This game has become overly easy.

Yes it's easy.... at lvl 75+ solo. You have trusts and out level the content by 20 lvls. you all may as well be posting about defeating a lvl1 skeleton at lvl 99. This quest was meant to be ran at lvl 50. So yes...75+ chars should have next to no problems killing the lvl 55-60 mobs.

Why is everyone even making posts, is this the epeen club or a zam post? You're all posting about clearing a quest that's like 20-30 lvls below you whining saying it's too easy. I just don't get people anymore...

Seriously. Don't even try to half-asp it.

I went with my beloved lvl 75 MNK/DNC combo and regular DD gear and got my hind-end handed to me twice. I even used Hundred Fists and still lost.

I ended up having to switch to lvl 75 THF/DNC, grabbed every evasion piece I could (total of +38), used the FoV manual's enhancements for all they were worth, built my TP to 300% and popped the mobs.

I killed the WHM first which ended up bringing my TP down to just about nothing (the BRD brought my enhancements down to almost nothing too via Magic Finale). I hoped I would be able to start bringing the TP back up on the BRD, but could only manage to hold steady thanks to the MNK. I killed the BRD and started on the MNK. I did pretty well until he popped Hundred Fists, but managed to hold out without even 2 houring. After that it was pretty much cake.

The key to the fight seems to be evasion and preparation. They can hit pretty hard, but if they can't touch you, you should be able to win.

Good luck!

soloed all 3 at same time as 75thf/nin with an evasion setup(not the best but decent). had shadows up popped mobs, all 3 aggroed, started on whm. whm half health, does benediction. my health down to 300 can't get shadows up, *perfect dodge*, shadows up. two hour wears before whm dies. after that was cake, finish brd start on mnk. mnk two hours, can't hit me. ill admit, was probly a bit lucky but hey, i still bsted those bishes.

Just did this today, and I'll go over the Yhoator Jungle encounter:

Had a 75 Whm help out with this and I went as a 72 War. Got to ??? spot and used Powder Boots, then quickly selected ???, in which I then ran close to the Rancor zone. Only main NM followed and started bashing him away. Got him down to 40% and he used Hundred Fists. As soon as he used it, I zoned to Rancor zone, and then zoned back out. By this time, NM's 2 hour was gone so I started bashing him away and finished him off. Once he went down, I went to ??? and got the Box. Pretty easy with the extra help.

For those Winja's out there I tried to solo the MNK mob after zoning in and out, and got mauled 3 times in a row with "Hundred Fists". I couldnt understand why I was dying so quickly, thinking I was a hopeless Winja, but after deciding a new technique I put on some EVA+ gear,(empress hairpin, scouters rope, evasion earrings), ate a Tavnazian Taco, and pulled out my NPC (58) on attacker style and slaughtered the MNK piece of cake! (got me to maybe 50% during 100 fists) Didnt even have to use Benediction, so definitely as other posters said Evasion is the key, and the Taco helped to minimise damage when he hit me (cause you can never be as evasive as a THF or NIN, being a Winja. Paralyse and slow sticks fairly easy too and that keeps him quiet while it lasts ^^ Good Luck!

I went there as Thf/Nin geared in evasion and it was cake. Poped them, zoned, came back, killed the monk. He didn`t hit me once, he got through some shadow but i alway had time to recast. Even Hundred Fists didn`t hit me at all, not even a lost shadow. Then i got back to ??? but the Whm was still roaming around. He agroed me so i killed it. This time i wasn`t paying to much attention so 1 race ability(don`t get the name i was distracted lol) got me down to 900/1100. Recovered with bloody bolt, killed it and clicked the ???.. that probably was the easyest AF3 ever lol

And on top of it i went to Kuftal got key in 2 kill then coffer was at the 1st spot i checked XD.

A PLD (75) and I (75WHM) did this just a few minutes ago, too easy. I was on my whm, clicked on the ??? and the three mobs spawned. PLD voked the mnk and the bonze was still on me, though I don't recall the last mob as ever having even engaged me. We ran to the Den of Rancor and zoned in, then immediately zoned back in. All but the MNK had depopped. I enfeebled and healed a bit, but even Hundred Fists wasn't much of a worry for the moderately equipped PLD. Just healed through HF, I Banish III'd his last bit of health, ran back to the ??? and got the key item.

Solo'd as 75Mnk/Nin

It was an easy fight, The armor pieces I used to replace whats in my sig for some evasion were

OHat
Evasion Torque
Bibiki Shell
Scorpoin Harness

I built 300% Tp, Used Focus/Dodge/att food/rr & popped the NM's

Went straight for main Mnk nm, I Pennanced him, Did a 300% Howling Fist, popped my HF & he was Dead by the end of it.

I chakra'd back up to 1K Hp and took care of the Brd mob then the whm mob. The whm nm used Benidiction when he was nearly dead, but it didnt matter As he couldnt connect a single hit on me.

My Monk is fully merited including 4/4Eva, but no STR merits yet.

Fun fight but not very hard for my character.

I soloed this on my 75MNK/Nin last night. It turned out to be a pretty easy fight, but I messed up the first time and I wanted to detail my mistake here so that anyone reading may be able to avoid my mistake.

I went in with my normal evasion setup (eva torque, emp hair pin, eva earrings, scorpion harness, +2 eva merits), popped the mobs and ran to the zone. I managed to get to the zone taking only one hit for about 150 from the monk mob. I healed it up, recast ichi and went out and just pounded the monk. I counterstanced his 2 hour and he basically beat himself to death.

As I ran up the tunnel towards the ??? mark I noticed that the other two mobs were still there. I decided that I’d heal up a little bit and then take them out. As I was healing, the two mobs de-popped. I ran up to the ??? only to find out that there was “nothing out of the ordinary.”

In short I killed the monk mob too quickly as the other mobs hadn’t disappeared before he died. With a new plan in place I decided to just keep holding the monk mob near the zone by zoning in and out a few times. I did this for about 3-4 minutes before I finally engaged him for the kill. This time the other two mobs were gone before he died and I was able to get the key item after the kill.

Nin AF was pretty easy as I soloed all the way to Paragon of Ninja Excellence, now I’m inventory -5

Soloed today as 67THF/NIN. Popped and zoned into Den of Rancor. Came back out MNK was alone and others depopped. Perfect dodge for hundred fists and rest of fight is easy. One Au Lait for regen and bloody/blinds bolts for fight. Never dropped below 900 HP.

I'd like to confirm that you can solo this as 75Thf/Nin.

First of all, I spawned them with sneak up, which they ignored and immediately attacked me

I did have a level 40 something healer npc that hasted me, but the real deal was only fighting one at a time. Sleep bolt don't effect them, but bloody and blind do. I started the fight with 300tp, went after the Whm, did enough damage for its to bene, and about this time I was realizing I couldn't sleep them effectively. I zoned to Den of Rancor with about 400 hp left and Dia up, so I only rested a little once dia wore and charged back out there.

Carefully, I approached the spawn, and when I aggroed only two came, so I zoned again, and turned around and went back out to try and pull just one.

I managed to pull only the Mnk, which wasn't terribly hard at all blind bolts and pretty standard evasion gear did the trick. when i did hit me, it was for alot, but bloodies easily gave me hp back. Hundred Fists was not a problem.

After killing the Mnk, I ran to the spawn, and the other two were gone already, I clicked the ? and received my key item.

Good luck, and remember, you can pop these as a job other than Nin and it is possible to solo them if you can find help.

I poppped these guys as 75 THF/NIN

Ran semi close to zone and started killing WHM, got it about half dead and was getting really annoyed with getting finale'd then slowed and elegy, so I zoned.

Rested up, went back out BRD aggroed kill him, got 34 exp. Others depopped touched ??? again and got trick box. Guess it doesn't matter which one you kill.

Sahagin Fight

The 3 NM Sahagin fight can be easily duoed by a puller (preferably the nin who's doing this quest) and a soloer (any /nin job with utsu ni, drg/whm, bst, smn, rdm, etc). The strategy is to have the puller pop the NMs and drag them to the Den of Rancor while the soloer picks off either Kappa Biwa (bard) or Kappa Bonze (whm) and take them to a different area. This strategy will only work if the 2 NMs that were not picked depops before the NM that the soloer is fighting dies in order to get the key item.

Puller Role:

Sneak pull will not work on these NMs. Therefore, the most dangerous part of this is for Kappa Akuso (monk sahagin) to catch up with you and beat you down (regardless if you have shadows up if you're a lowbie). Generally, he hits for 100-150ish damage per hit and can probably take you down halfway before you reach the zone. Therefore, there are three easy alternatives to get out of this mess: /thf subjob, powder boots, or nin af boots (nighttime only). Simply cast flee on yourself using your subjob or powder boots and then click the ??? to pop the NMs. Since you have great movement speed, you can easily run to the zone while your partner picks off one of the sahagins. Once you zone, wait for 1 minute and 30 seconds so that the NMs start walking back to the main area. Remember, if you zone back and get aggro from them, their depop timers will reset (5 minute timer). Once the minute and a half is up, zone back and keep an eye on the NMs till they depop (you won't have room to get past them anyways during this time). Once the NM depops, run to help your soloer kill their NM.

Soloer Role:

Depending on what type of job you are, you will have to choose either to fight Kappa Biwa (brd) or Kappa Bonze (whm). I would put the difficulty of fighting them at coffer key level mobs, so take appropriate steps for setting up to fight them. Position yourself at the entrance of the tunnel to the Den of Rancor, and pull either the brd or whm using whatever method (provoke, dia, chi blast, i don't care just no aoes!). Once the NM is on you, take the NM and kite it to the outpost, where you will fight it there. The reason for this is that the zoned NMs will start to head back to their partner's position slowly, making the pond area not safe to fight in (Bastok mission 9-1 taught me this). If you take the NM past the tunnel to the outpost, the NMs won't have a chance to reach up to you since their 5 min depop timer will expire. Beat down the NM till it has a sliver of life left, then keep it alive till the puller tells you that the other two NMs depop. Once the other NMs depop, kill your NM. Remember that the person doing the quest must be in the zone when the kill happens. Also, if you kill your NM before the other two depopping, then the person doing the quest won't be able to get their key item.
This was disapointing

People say ninja af is hard im rdm75 blu 75 nin 50 bst 31[lol] so maybe it was easier for me...im sure the coffers and the hakama arehard if you have no 75. But this final fight is actually a wimp , even if your a lv58 or so ninja. i came as rdm..pulled them..ran.. to den of rancor buffed up counted to 15 (as someone said) came out and fought..hundred fists i graved and bio'd ran...and so on. now how could ninja do this?
First come Nin/thf for flee...spawn and flee but make sure they follow you...count to 15 and rezone. get the nm and start fighting...once it hundred fists, since you cant grav , just zone to den of rancor for a bit (as someone previously said) and then zone back out and finish. How do i know this works since i came as rdm
~my lv58 nin friend did it, iwoulda done it as nin, but its only 50 atm

i just solo this 3NM without sneak
SH+1, evasion neck, boxer mantle, capped + merit evasion, o hat
boost tp to 100, pop, focus on whm, shodows goes down, recast, a few times goes to 700hp,
i have my NPC fellow, did cure 5 3 time in the whole fight
once whm killed it will be easy cake, kill bard 2nd use bloody bolts get full hp, last is mnk, when it dong 100 fists i just plainly dodge and parry, maybe totally used 5 shadows, i was thinking use perfect dodge but it seems no need at all.

conclusion thf/nin + good fellow can solo it
without fellow i think a bit danger but still can try.

I just did this quest as a lvl 62 NIN. I had help from my lvl 61 soothing healer NPC. Ate a jack-o-latern and engaged the mobs at night for the extra evasion. Zoned into Rancor (had the NIN boots on so I easily outran them). Got hit 1 time on the way back because the BRD slept me and I had to take 1 hit to wake me up. Used 1 hi-pot en rezoned into the jungle with my NPC next to me.

The MNK mob was there and immediatly became red after I got into range. After that I just played like it was a regular mob. He almost missed everything so I didn't even zone when he used 100 fists. miss, miss, miss, miss XD

And then he hit me a few times so my NPC used Cure V on me and suddonly got hate (which gave me a nice opening to recast Ni hehe). He was almost dead at that time and he and my NPC died at exactly the same time. ^^

Easy enough quest to solo (or did I duo it? ;))
easy
# Nov 30 2006 at 2:04 AM Rating: Decent
I solo'd this as rdm/nin, it was very easy.

Run out there as rdm, put up shadows to pop the mobs and popped them. Run all 3 straight to den of rancor, when inside I refreshed myself, re-shadowed, the usual buffs - basically while counting to 15(seconds). Zoned back out, walked down the tunnel a little bit and there was the mnk, alone, still claimed to me and he ran at me... the other 2 depopped. Fought the mnk for a bit, he was pretty easy. When he 2hr'd I just trained him back into den of rancor, waited about 5 seconds, then ran back out. His HP% didn't regen at all and from what I could tell, his 2hr was over. He died very quickly at that point. Ran back up to the ??? and that was it for the hard part.

Hope that helps anyone who want to solo or get this overwith easy.
Got the toolbox on 5th attempt >_<"

i was helping my friend getting his coffer at Ifrit's Cauldron and when we zone back out to the jungle after he got his coffer, we decided to try to kill the 3NMs. Party setup was:

75RDM/BLM
75BLM/WHM
61DRK/THF <- me ^^
55NIN/WAR

well we were wiped out on 1st attempt not knowing the correct way to do it. The NIN and I delvl T_T. So after hp, we decided to get our revenge. this time we read the info here and get an idea ^^ however we failed again cuz the rdm d/c and the MNK 2hr me >< and i was just a step to zone XP The BLM zoned and raised us. on 3rd attempt, since the MNk will be the 1st to get to us i suggested the RDM to gravity the MNK and only the whm and brd following us. we zoned and kill the whm. the others despawned. however, nothing happened when clicked on the ???. so we decided to zone again. this time we kill the brd but still nothing happened >_<" ok, on the 5th try, we kill the brd & whm and the NIN got his toolbox!!! ^^v lol, it was fun tho :D

I did this as 74DRK/37NIN last night, popped the ??? with sneak on and ran for the Den of Rancor zone, all 3 followed. Waited 20 secs zoned out and ran half way down the corridor to find Kappa Akuso (MNK) still red on his own waiting for me. Killed him with a little difficulty, DRK evasion isn't great!

Use Stun and drain when the timers are up and try to cast ichi when your on your last ni shadow. When he uses Hundred Fists, you better run (I just zoned into Den of Rancor for ~30secs). Survived with 620HP, but he was hitting me for 140+ when shadows were down. Only got 39xp lol, went back up to check and the other 2 had despawned, clicked the ??? and got the box.

I'm sure a 70+ MNK/NIN/THF wouldn't have any problems with this, he's not the most accurate.

Sub Bard then equip 2 melody earrings! thats an idea! go at night, eat Jack-o-Lantern, sing songs now and then, you should be good. I should have thought of this before I fought the NM. But, yeah just a suggestion.

58 NIN solo > Kappa Biwa (bard)
# Oct 25 2006 at 11:03 AM Rating: Decent
I got my Trick Box by defeating Kappa Biwa solo. My first try was at night, click the ??? and 3 sahagins popped up. Zoned to Den of Rancor 5x until I only got one agroing me. Last time i zoned back the White mage was the only one left (didn't know it was the white mage at first, but fought it anyways, got tired of zoning back and forth). Fought it for 10 min until it did Benediction so i just 2-houred and try again.

Went back but its during daytime now, I couldn't wait anouther 30 minutes so I thought why not try. Went back and popped them, zoned to Rancor and luckily when i zoned back the Bard was the closest one to me and the monk was too far to agro.

Defeated the bard with 238 hp left after using 5 Hi-potions. Fight was a little more than 10 minutes, I think. It would have been easier during night.
The bard resisted a lot of my enfeebles. Didn't macro in any INT equipment and I don't have my head piece yet, going to wait until I feel like soloing the crabs in bohyada tree. Haven't partied there so i don't have the coffer key.
Definitely soloable at 57 with Scorpion Harness.

Items and Equipment used:

First try NIN/THF for flee ( dont ask me, it wasn't needed after all)
Second try NIN/WAR

Solo'd this as a 64 nin, popped the sahagins and zoned to the den of rancor. Zoned back, and slowly took out the monk. His 2hr was a bit of trouble, so i zoned back to the den. When i came back, his health had regained a bit, but was no trouble. Used evasion gear and kept shadows up at all times.
NIN70+ Can solo it.
# Sep 12 2006 at 12:42 AM Rating: Decent
In case anyone might have wondered, you can Solo this on NIN70+ too. So if you wanna just wait til 70's you can do it without any help. Depending on which Sahagin follows you to the zone determines how difficult the fight will be.

I followed what most people said to do:

1. Pop the Sahagins, run to the zone.
So I popped them, zoned to Ifrits, keeping Akuso in sight range. He was the only red/claimed mob when they spawned, and when Irezoned in, he was there waiting for me. The other two didnt seemto follow.

2. Fight one-on-one.
Since only 1 of them hung around, I fought the MNK(Akuso) I subbed RDM for a little versatility, and curing power if I needed it. I got hit maybe 2 times, his accuracy is pretty bad. But when he hits you, he'll knock you for about 100+ unbuffed. During the entire fight Akuso used only 3 abilities. Bubble(Shell) Hydroball(Guessing AOE Attack), and Hundred Fists. I kept him blinded, slowed, and paralyzed. All of them stuck pretty well, and made the fight about 30% easier from what I could tell.
Gear-wise, I waited until nighttime so I could reap the full benefit, of the Ninja Kyahan and Hakama. I had about +44 Evasion on me, which is still pretty average, and he missed 90-95% of his swings. I also used an evasion torque for the added skill. When he used Hundred Fists it kind of scared me, because he was missing so fast, but if he gets your shadows down, there is a real danger there. So, keep your shadows up at all times.

3. All in all, easy fight. I headed back to the ??? at I-7 and claimed the old trick box.
