Summary

One of Gerwitz's weapons is running amok. You must go to the place where the Crystal Lines converge, use the blood of a powerful Quadav to lure it out, and then defeat the evil weapon that appears.

Walkthrough

You must have completed Dark Legacy - DRK AF1 and Dark Puppet - DRK AF2, and activated Borghertz's Shadowy Hands to obtain this quest.

First, set your job to Dark Knight and head to Beadeaux. A cutscene should occur where Zeid will tell you that the Power of Darkness is starting to get out of control.

You need to collect one piece of Quadav Mage Blood. These are dropped off of Topaz Quadavs in the same zone. Note: If more than one Dark Knight is doing this quest, you only need one piece of blood and everyone will receieve their AF after the upcoming notorious monsters have been defeated.

Once the blood has been aqcuired, head to Middle Delkfutt's Tower. On the seventh floor, use the teleporter at J-6.

You should end up in a small circle room on the sixth floor (J-6 again). Buff up and be prepared for a tough fight. When ready, trade the Quadav Blood to the ???. Gerwitz's Scythe, a weapon-type NM, and two Scythe Victim skeletons will spawn.

Recommended strategy:

  • Have 3 designated tanks, two pulling away one each skeleton as far away as possible. It is important that you do not engage these in the beginning since their AoE of HP drain would most likely be a disaster. Head for the Weapon first and try to kill it as soon as possible. Once the Weapon is defeated start picking on one of the skeletons at a time.

It is also very risky to trade in the blood. Your HP can go down very fast. Make sure that the healers are alert and cure this person before the tank can get the hate.

Once all three NMs are defeated, use the same teleport you used when you came in and after this you will get a cutscene and your Chaos Burgeonet.

When i traded the blood, my hp went to 500hp in a matter of seconds, ( i had stoneskin and blink + protect IV ) but quickly recovered from that. Monk died in middle for reason i dont know probably underestimated the mob and put on Counterstance. rest of the fight was all smooth, 2 skeles didnt depop after killing the weapon. After that i zoned got CS and my AF helm.

You DO have to be DRK to get cutscene in Beaudeaux. I went there with NIN to farm the blood, didn't get CS, went back with DRK, got CS

I was able to pop the mobs as NIN though.

Even with sneak, as soon as I traded, all 3 agro'd. I tried to solo, got the main mob down, but couldn't take the skeles out. I just Mijin'd with 100 HP left.

*EDIT*

Got a new blood, came back the next day with a couple friends, traded and.....nothing happened. Got on the tele to try to zone back in, and got CS for helm.

So I guess you just have to kill the Weapon mob to complete the quest

Agreed, when i did this i went 60 drk a 75 blm and a 75 nin. We killed the Weapon off quickly but ended up killed by the skeles. Needless to say we warped out after reraising. Stupidly, I thought I needed another mage blood and next time went with a full pt...turns out all i needed to do was zone out on the teleporter since we had dropped the weapon :P

did this today with 5 ppl

73 DRG/RDM (me) solo'd a skele
75 RDM/BLM
75 DRK/THF
57 DRK/WAR (he died at the begining and didnt get raise till after the fight was over)
57 DRK/WAR
55 DRK/WAR

was a pretty easy fight with a few 70+'s
Zone as DRK?
# May 13 2006 at 12:11 AM Rating: Decent
Do you have to zone into Beadeaux as DRK to get the CS? Everytime I've zoned into that place, I was WHM, never got the CS for DRK AF3. Already did DRK AF2, so that meets the pre-requisite requirements.
over kill

Haha you guys keep saying easy fight, but every one that said it has like 7 or 8 lvl 70+, i think most if not all AF fights are easy if u got 3+ lvl 70+...... just mah 2cents, but me lvl 70 ninja /rdm 75 and our buddy 50 drk smoked this, but 2 best jobs, cant loose.... PLD/NIN haha <no thanks>

Does this quest not also give the title "Paragon of Dark Knight Excellence", any information on this would be most helpful. I just noticed that they don't give a title obtained on the main page for Dark Knight Artifact armor quests. Look forward to hearing from someone.

So after taking two hours to get my Quadav Mage Blood a month or two ago, I finally went and did this with some LS members. The set up was as follows:

60DRK/THF <- Me
55DRK/THF
75PLD/WAR
73PLD/WAR
74BLM/something
74WHM/something
60+ WHM(unsure of level)
(Not sure if there were any others, I can't remember)

So I pull, not realizing one of the WHMs is low on MP. But no biggie, we have the one PLD kiting the two skeles around a bit. We all go nuts on the weapon and it eventually drops. So as we start fighting the Skeletons, the one PLD dies. Then the second, which means quick instant death for me soon after. Then the entire PT wipes. The 55DRK HP'd, got his WHM and R3d us all. I felt bad, but all in all me and the other DRK got our helmets, so we were happy. We would've won if we had a RDM to keep Refresh up.
Easy drop? my ass

I joined up with a guy that was shouting in Jeuno. I was a lvl 53 drk at the time, I figured do it now and get it out of the way. Anyway, we had to climb the tower twice because the person that had the blood had already done the quest and was just along to help out. The blood is Ex so we had to go get more. We managed to lose a few people over that one.

Luckily we managed to find someone that had the blood and needed quest so after some recruiting, back up the tower we went.

Our Alliance was somewhat odd so the fight was basically a brawl. We had 6 Drk ranging from 53-61, and a 75 Nin and a 64 Sam, a couple people had Whm subbed but other than that we didn't have any healers along.

The person with the blood used a silent oil, spawned and came back over to us then pulled. Great trick that one. I can't say if the skeletons would have despawned or not since when the weapon was at about 15% they decided to come over and visit. No real problems though, once the fight was over 4 of us were in the yellow, but nothing to worry about.

I don't recall the weapons behavior during the fight since it pretty had to keep track of what's happening with 8 people hammering away at it, not that it survived long. So for anyone out there that needs to do this consider taking along a party of DD's and sub Whm it works out pretty well.

solod as 75 pld/nin... I went to level NPC and get the mage blood, I got one quickly and a 2nd dropped before NPC left so I said **** it, guess I'll solo it now, if I lose grab a friend to duo later.

I cheaped it up and it still wasnt that bad... just drank melon juice and ate mithkabob. No one has mentioned this but after its blood weapon ended it sometimes drained mp or tp from me with normal attacks. Didnt happen much but I didnt expect him to drain the last of my mp ^^; This would probably have been even easier using staff and spirit, I was using joy-toy and tatami shield which intimidated a few times.

Basically the fight was just a slow grind with it not hurting me more than shadows and 2mp a tick recovred, once it got low it started using smite and whirl of rage very frequently...I wouldnt say spam, but it was annoying. 2hrd for safetey when it was around 10%. it cast Cure IV once or twice... thats it.. Zeid is just about my fav. character in this game ^^;; the af quests are worth it for his one liners.

As posted below sneak pull... and yes the skeletons DO despawn. It took me so long to kill the weapon I didnt even notice when they did lol. but sometime midfight. Battle took probably 8 mins or so based on juices wearing off...check my post on BRD AF2, same affect of that lightning fast PLD soloing w.

One of the easiest fights I've done in the last few days. Pt set up was 75 nin 73 nin 75 mnk 72 whm (me 65 drk) 59 drk and 60 sam. Just pulled one at a time and had no problem.

this would have been insanely easy...like everyone says...but stay the hell away from the bones, those things are bad news. the scythe was almost toast and these things come and take big nasty hunks out of the pt. it was close. might be good to bring some monks along for them.
lineup was:
drk73 garik
rdm72 calamitty
brd73 chele
sam65 noata
bst63 sasser
drk60 kitS
drk60 deoman
drk55 mallister (me)!

thanks everyone for showing up on absolutely NO NOTICE geeknirvana is definitely the place to be on carby!!!

I will say this upfront... we wiped, but I have my helm.

My experience with this was one I won't soon forget. The sneak/spawn/pull trick works very well. The group I went with was 58PLD, 57WHM, 60SMN, 57DRK (me), 66DRK and 75DRK. It should go without saying that bones aggro to low HP, so get as far away from the spawn point as possible before pulling the weapon. Also the healer should keep everyone out of the yellow. This would have been an insanely easy battle had we not caught low-HP aggro from the bones (we were still standing too close).

The important thing to note here is that only the weapon needs to be killed. We came very close to taking down both skeletons, but our 66DRK wanted to get some HP back and cast Drain on one of the giants (-.-) just as our WHM was using Benediction, thus making this battle even more difficult than it needed to be.

All 6 of us dead, everyone homepointed except myself and the PLD, and the WHM came back (reraise had worn mid-battle) and cast Raise II upon us. I clicked the ??? and was disappointed to see "Nothing happens." so went to the teleporter to walk back to Jeuno in shame and was surprised to see the cutscene. It took the WHM over 30 minutes to get back to us for the raise.

I am also very confident that a party of high-50's or 60's could take the weapon down easily without the bones aggroing.

Hope this helps someone. Good luck to all the Dark Knights. May your blades shine with darkness. ^.^

I was told that this quest and fight was soooo hard, but we pwned this thing. We had 10 people, one was afk for the whole fight.

Our Setup was: 59DRK (me), 59DRK, 59DRK, 60DRK, 71DRK, 71WHM, 75PLD, 75NIN, 75RDM, and 67RDM.

The 71 DRK said he was going afk for a minute but some of the other people got restless and started the fight...no one died and we finished it before the 71DRK got back from afk...he was shocked that we finished it before he got back...lol

XD killed this stuff not 5 mins ago, easiest **** ever, but that is prolly cuz we had 2 full pts of 57+ I think all but drks were 60+. Drk just sneaked up and spawnd them, had a smn who carby pulled main NM first (dead in 20s) then we beat the **** outta the other two hehe. anyways, this fight is easy if you get the help like I did (I joined a pt going, and got a couple LS friends to tag along too). anyways, got all my AF w00t.

Just DESTROYED this NM with a 75 NIN, 73 WHM (wasn't really needed besides sneak, but nice to have just in case.) 65 DRK and 2 60 DRKs (both of us needed helm).

Went in buffed/ate/sneaked and traded the blood and ran away. NIN pulled Scythe and quite literally we all just pounded the Notorious out of the Monster. NIN was bored and pulled both skelies and we nailed them to their respective crosses and crucified them too.

Got my Helm so I am heppy. Hardest part was farming blood... -_- took 2 hours...

I noticed I was unable to trigger the cutscene with my L75 monk (I was able to get the blood). Do you need to be DRK to trigger the NMs with the blood or to qualify as "doing the quest" if you just show up to the fight with a different job with the quest triggered?

Ok, I did it today about 1 hour ago.

A 75RDM and a 71MNK helped me.
I spawned em and ran like the wind with Sneak on so the skeletons didn't agro, and the weapon came. We had all built up like 20% tp lol so not much of an advantage. I Arcane Circled us all and the thing barely attacked us, now and again used it's AoE. After about 2minutes of pummeling, it died but we noticed one skeleton agro'd. The MNK used Asuran Fists and it was badly damaged so we finished the skeleton and by the time it died, the other depopped.

Yeah I just did this with 10 people. Easy; no trouble at all. We had a 75 RDM/NIN,71 WHM/BLM, 70 DRG/WAR, 70 RNG/NIN, 64 DRK/THF, 61 SAM/THF, 60 DRK/THF, 60 WHM/BLM, 56 DRK/THF, and a 54 DRK/THF <<(me). I had the blood so I sneaked up went to the ??? and traded it. The mobs poped I ran back to the group and then we had the WHM Dia pull Gerwitz Scythe to the group. We got the Scythe to about 1/4 health and somebody got aggroed by the Skellys. We killed the main weapon and within 3 minutes had the others dead too. Total deaths 0, total remaining 10, total mobs alive 0. Zoned got the CS and that was it. Obtained: Chaos Burgeonet

1. hire a 75THF for 50k to go to beadeaux to get blood while you sit at enterance or camp Ooze.
2. Return to jeuno and ask any DRKs who havent got helm if they need help.
3. buy oils for everyone and split cost.
4. pay a 75BST to go in, usualy 100k and they will accept.
5. head into delkfutt's 7th floor J-6 teleporter.
6. get 1 DRK to put sneak up early and when he is about to spawn it have every DRK sneak up.
7. spawn NM.
8. DONT ENGAGE SKELETONS OR NM
9. wait for skeletons to de-spawn (around 3 minutes)
10. have the BST call panzerGalahad and just let him beat the NM down to around 50% life
11. ENJOY fight the nm with little effort.

12. RECIEVE CHAOS BURGEONET!! + TITLE: PARAGON OF DARK KNIGHT EXCELLENCE!!
13. pay the BST the 100k and enjoy the moment.
14. wish everyone good luck with DRK and thank the BST
15. warp back to jeuno with scroll or cudgel.

I DID THIS ONLY MINUTES AGO. I SPENT 3 DAYS SHOUTING IN JEUNO FOR HELP BUT 0 OFFERS.
SO I DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE AND I HIRED A BST AND JUST ME AND HIM WENT IN TOGETHER. SLAUGHTERED THE STUPID NM.
PERSONALLY I THOUGHT THE GREWITS'S SWORD, AXE, SOUL WERE MORE OF A CHALLENGE.

GOOD LOOK TO ALL DRKs!
This can only be done with sneak spell or oils. forget em and you will die in less than a minute.

Darunia - DRK60 - Paragon of Dark Knight Excellence, as of 21/6/05.

Thank you for the tips but... I just did this and if you wait for the skelly to despawn before you engage the weapon with your jug pet... they will all despawn. Had to go back and get another pop item :(
So it should be more like:
7. Sneak up and spawn NM
8. Have BST sick pet onto weapon
9. Sit back and wait for skelly to depop then engage the weapon. By the time the skelly depop BST pet has enough hate that you can just go crazy on the weapon. Hope this saves people some time.

I was too lazy to shout for help in Jeuno, so I just picked 3 LS members to help out. Pt was 50 DRK(me), 55 SAM, 63 DRK and 58 WHM. We get TP to 100% with the mobs around, buff up with protect, shell, and aerial armor (whm was /smn). Spawn first NM, DRK vokes, a few WS's gets it to do Mighty Strikes, DRK's hp droped to yellow a few times, but WHM's great healing kept him in one piece and didnt get hate. First one dead. We buff up the same way before the second. But he didnt do anything, so in less than 20 seconds, after a nice SC, he's dead. Same buff process for third, only this time WHM stood further away to avoid Sleepga. We spawn it, and after 1 or 2 minutes we killed it. Has alot of HP, but doesnt hit too hard, nothn to worry about. Not sure the ghost is 50-ish, since I got 7 exp.

In the end, all it took was 4 people.

Hope this helps ^^
