Battle Notes

To begin, trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Star Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 40, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, there will be 8 Princess Jellies spread out in an open ended circle that, once aggroed, will slowly begin to move towards the center of the room.

  • The Princesses will not deviate from their path towards the center of the room and cannot be slept by any method. Their motion can be impeded though with Gravity and Bind effects.

  • Besides the normal array of Slime tp moves, each Princess is governed by a single element that denotes what spells they are capable of casting, as well as what element they are strong/weak to.

    • The spells that the Princesses can cast are their respective element's DoT spell (Burn for the Fire governed, Bio for the Dark governed, etc.), their tier 1 elemental damage spell (Banish for the Light governed, Blizzard for the Ice governed, etc), and the Bind spell.

If any Princess Jellies reach the center of the room, they will "merge" into a Queen Jelly a more powerful version of the Princess Jelly.

  • The amount of hp that the Queen Jelly "spawns" with is based on the number of Princess Jellies that reach the center. (If only one Princess reaches the center, then the Queen will have 1/8 of its max hp).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated within the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

One strategy involved for successfully beating this BCNM involves two heavy DD melee and one Mage, with the melee starting on opposite ends of the circle and working their way towards one another, with the mage curing and buffing the melee while debuffing/ nuking (where feasible) the Jellies.

Another very popular strategy involves a similar setup to the one above, with the notable exception of starting at one end of the circle, together, and work their way around to the other end, while the mage drops cures and bind/gravity on the Jellies. Usually, with this strategy, the Princess Jellies are cleared before reaching the inner circle, and therefore the Queen Jelly does not spawn.

90k total... Yes for 5 runs. An absolute waste of time and seals.

RNG/RNG/RDM

Very easy. If the RDM cant bind the jelly, just shadowbind one. If they are getting close, shadowbind the second last one too.

I'v beat this thing like 40 times with my LS.
I have never used bind or gravity.
We just start on the left and whoop on them
one at a time. only twice have we had to fight
the queen jelly.

Party setup most times is war/anything, war/anything
Rdm/smn <--(me im a galka so I sub smn for the mp boost).

We have never lost but we had two deaths once.

In my opinion, without a BST party, this is the least complicated BCNM40 and easiest.

-------Group-------

I personally prefer [RNG] [RNG] [RDM}
and i'll tell you why.

Ranger: able to keep their distance and deal massive damage without downtime.
Ranger: Two IS better than one
Redmage: Can cast Bind AND Gravity And convert, if needed.(gravity works better than bind here... And i'm a rdm ^^)

But

This can easily be completed with other DD jobs, ranger just makes it so much safer/easier/faster.

Blackmage/redmage/whitemage can do this with ease, redmage is just the safest
and most versitile (Because of gravity and convert and phalanx etc.)

----Subjobs----

Rangers can sub almost anything and do well. the monsters like to spam spells so blinks will be worn off fast.
but ninja, warrior etc still works fine.

Redmage should sub whitemage so he can cast shellRA and BarFira plus divine seal can help a lot.

BLM sub Whm

whm sub BLM << Critical.... without bind your pretty much done.

----------The situation----------

ok, if youve ever beeen in a BCNM arena, its quite large and round. there are 8 jellys along the outside wall slowly inching their way to the center.

if they are successful, they will merge to one big jelly, which is bad bad news.

imagine Fighting 8 Even Match Worms with rangers or 1 Very Tough Jelly. you choose.

Its absolutetly critical that they do not merge, but there is a solution- Bind and gravity.

gravity almost completely stops them and bind slows them down about 50%.

these spells are Rarely resisted so Elemental seal isnt completely needed, but if your enfeebling magic isnt capped it would be a wise choice.

-------the Fight-------

after entering, go foward to the egde of the ring and cast BarFira and ShellRa and whichever buffs you feel necessary

the mage should pick one side, left or right and the rangers work the opposite side(the jellys are in a U shape, not a complete ring.).

cast gravity and bind on two different ones and then just stand there and let them spam spells on you, curing yourself and regen + curing the others.

you cannot move far away to ignore their spells, they can cast from a ridiculus distance.

once theres like 3 jellys left just keep bind and gravity on the one thats furthest back and there really isnt much you can do to lose at this point.

this fight should NOT require 2hr/yag drinks etc.

each jelly has about 400-500 HP. ranged shots with bow at that level should do 70-80 a shot, split shot does about 90-120 dmg and Barrage does roughly 250.

our fastest clear was about 6min 30 seconds.

---be careful of---

they spam burn, frost, choke etc.

and love to nuke with aero, fire, thunder. just keep shell up and this sould not be a problem.

do not move close to the jellys or they will hit you. they hit about the same as an Even Match... with phalanx On they hit 30-35 per hit.

--------------Rewards---------------

I'd say one of these scrolls drop 40%-60% of the time.

If lucky, more.

Utsusemi: Ni

Scroll: Phalanx

Scroll: Erase

Good Luck!!

um. isn't convert a level 41 skill. so you wouldn't be able to use convert in a BCNM 40

No, Convert is a LVL 40 RDM ability. Refresh is the LVL 41 spell. So Doh, 1 lvl too high to Refresh during this BCNM ;p

I would suggest you also consider dark knight in that line up, stun is a beautifull thing to have for this.

Seriously and honestly...blm have stun too...so its not just a DRK spell. I have done this with a RNG, BLM, and WHM and it worked out pretty well. The drops were ok and not to shabby but nothing that made my jaw drop!

Seriously and honestly, Stun is a lvl 45 BLM Spell ;).

I think if you hit Poisonga then manafonted all your -ga spells it would make life a lot easier for the melee/rng to finish up the jellies. (Note that poisonga is so the mob doesn't regen when it goes unclaimed).

Did this last night with RDM, RNG, DRG (me), using that strategy. Didn't even need to buff. One thing I will tell you, though - Raiden Thrust is a bad idea. I was trying to skillchain Fusion off of the RNG's Flaming Arrow and was doing so-so until the RDM told me to stop using it. I didn't figure on why until I saw...

Quote:
Atrexis uses Raiden Thrust.
The Princess Jelly recovers 89 points of damage.

I wonder if we'd have beaten the record if I hadn't been doing the equivalent of Cure II on it each time...

This is the easiest BCNM I have done. Just get 2 Rangers and a BLM,(any healer but Blm makes it go faster) Blm Bind one in the back and the Rngs work their way through them. As long as you stay in the range of only one slime you will take minimal damage, and watch what the slimes cast. Each slime is based on a different element, if it is casting Aero, casting Aero on it will heal it, but cast blizzard and you'll do good damage.

Have to keep binding the one in the back though, never want the Queen Jelly to form.

We got around the same items as in the list, but other items such as Gold Beastcoins, Phalanx, Mythril Beastcoins, Absorb-Str, Steel ingots

^^ hello, i was just wondering, if the same basic strat is followed, do you guys think this is do-able with a RNG/NIN, THF/NIN, and a RDM/BLM?

as RDM has higher enfeeb, Bind will stick longer, thereby saving MP for healing? (also the added bonus of Convert, just in case)

i dunno, this would be my 1st BCNM (if i wasn't scared to try it) so let me know what you guys think.

# Nov 12 2004 at 5:52 AM Rating: Decent
right, I've beaten this one twice so far. party makeup is Sam/War, Sam/War, and Whm/Blm. Whm casts Elemental Seal + Bind on the Jelly on the far right. Both Melees Begin beating the one on far left. Use Tachi: Kagero when you have TP (they seem to be weak to fire like all Jellies.) Move around in a circle and tag team the jellies. the Princess Jellies can reach the center as long as one of them is not in the center. They cannot join if they are all not there. Be sure the Whm keeps Binding the same Jelly over and over and over. A few juices help here too. I'm 2 for 2 on this one, Mana and Marksman rings are the common drops, never seen the rare ones (like erase and phalanx) yet. Slime oils, Ingots and Coins, and a Shikar Bow were also dropped.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 11 2004 at 6:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So there is no level cap on this BCNM?

This is the easiest BCNM I have ever done. Just have one dedicated healer, one nuker/ranged attacker and one melee. Start on one side and kill each slime one-by-one with both people attacking the same slime. The melee works as the tank/melee fighter. This allows the healer to focus the healing on one person. When the last slimes merge into one, silence the Queen. I am about 25/26 using this method.

To answer the questions asked, the slimes usually only attack the melee, they spam bind and shock. The slimes are only moving towards the center, so you are receiving physical attacks from one at a time. But the others are casting spells on you the whole time.

We have gotten erase about 5-6 times, Marksman and mana rings seem to be the most common drops. Ni & Phalanx are the least common of the high price items.

Hope this all helps. I recommend the party setup I use- Ranger/Ninja, Dark Knight/Warrior, and either: blm/whm, whm/???, smn/whm, or rdm/whm. We have won with all of the above acting as primary healers. The ranger primarily uses ranged attacks to cut down on healing.

Don't use aero on these jellies. It seems to heal them. Also, when they got to the center, I used manafont and spam casted -ga spells. They all seemed to have no effect -.-

Do they Attack you, or do they only attack you when attacked, and the others try to merge ?

I did this BCNM a little while ago.
It was an easy battle, we had a SAM, a DRK, and a BLM (me).
The jellies are arranged in an almost complete circle, with the empty spot in front of you.
When we went in the SAM and the DRK began on the left side, and I started on the right, BLM should bind the jellies in order, starting from the right, and heal the others when necessary.
The jellies never got to merge, so I can't comment on what to do with the Queen Jelly.

We got a Buzzard Tuck, a Fire Spirit Pact, a Marksman's Ring, a Gold Beastcoin, and three Slime Oils.
