Description

After completing Tuning In, you will need to wait a couple of real life days before talking to Leepe-Hoppe again to get this quest to open up.

You must travel to Kazham and speak with Jakoh Wahcondalo (the Chieftainess). Then goto the Mihgo's residence and speak with Romaa Mihgo. She will ask you to travel to Gemini Falls in Yuhtunga Jungle. There, you will see a ??? overlooking the falls and some pools of water (K-7). Clicking on it will trigger a short cutscene and spawn five NM bees called Nasus.

Even as a 74 Thief with Utsusemi, I still don't know if I could have solo'd all five wasps without help from a 75 White Mage (Mashengo). Once defeated, re-examining the ??? triggers another small cutscene. Travel back to Kazham and Romaa Mihgo.

Next, to get by Gilgamesh's guard, you will need to gather a bunch of Habanero Peppers (Rare/Ex) (dropped off Mantraps in Misareaux Coast), a serving of Black Curry, and a Mutton Tortilla.

As far as I know, Black Curry can not be bought from any merchants, it can only be crafted by someone with Level 99 Cooking skill.

Mutton Tortillas can be crafted by someone with a Level 69 Cooking skill. Luckily, these can also be bought from Taajiji in Timbre Taverns of Windurst Waters, but it's gonna cost you 5-6k gil.

Next, travel to Norg and speak with Comitiolus who guards the door to Gilgamesh. Trade him the Black Curry, the Mutton Tortilla, and the Habaneros. You'll have a cutscene with Kumai and are told to travel to Beaucedine Glacier and talk with the Tarutarus in the Tower at (I-7); these are the same Tarutarus for the Warp II quest.

Once you arrive, talk to Torino-Samarino. You'll get another cutscene and 6000 gil. Return to Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst Waters to get a final cut scene and the Cache-Nez.

i was curious, normally i can just walk in and see gilgamesh from my samurai and zilart missions i've compeleted. When doing this quest do u have to trade those items to the guard to gain entry?
correction to the cooking

Black Curry can be attempted by ne one lvl 79 or higher in cooking

Black Curry (94)-15 = 79+ to attempt

likewise

Mutton Tortilla (69)-15= 54+ to attempt

I just solo'ed the nasus as BST64, using a funguar jug. My hp were around 500/1300 at the end, funguar was at 20%, I rewarded it once. A BST 1 or 2 levels lower could probably have solo'ed them too. I'm surprised to read that Nascia (as monk75) didn't have an easier time defeating them.

As for the habanero pepper, it dropped off the second mantrap.

But now I couldn't finish the quest yet as no Black curry was on sale at the AH yesterday and today. And I couldn't get a cook to make me one even though I shouted for 50k. Gotta be patient I guess

75mnk/37thf...

1564/2080 HP after the bee fight, not even yellow HP. Fight was a joke. Only eva gear was O-hat.

Habanero Peppers dropped off Mantraps after about 35 kills with TH1.

Bought the other two items (duh)

solo'd the bees as 75 MNK/NIN with a lot of evasion gear on. They got me down to 384/1533, and I had a 276 Chakra in there, as well. Popped Dodge just before I popped the NMs, so during the worst of their onslaught I had extra evasion. My Asuran Fists would do about 1k to the bees. Hard to keep shadows up until you get down to about 2-3 bees left.

Does anyone else have the feeling that there is going to be a follow up quest to this one at some point in the future?

I get the feeling that SE is going to release another avatar in a later update/expansion and its going to continue off of this story line. Because you know there is some hidden dark protocrystal that is under that lake but there is some power that is preventing you from accessing it.

I think in a later quest you are going to have another run in with that mithra tracker where she tells you to go find that baptimal vessel/Black magicite. After completeing that she gives you her super tunning fork and tells you to use the baptimal vessel to break the spell that is protecting the protocrystal. So you travel to this new protocrystal and use the tunning fork to face this new avatar.

Something interesting: It seems youre saying the CS told you shikaree Y couldnt get to the crystal because of a magical field.. I got a very different cutscene. Maybe it is different after you beat the bearclaw pinnacle bcnm?

***spoiler***

I said SPOILER.. turn away now!!!

My CS went like this:

Shikaree Y: You know, I was never able to use it.
ildy-goldy: vhat!? it was defective?
Shikaree Y: No, nothing like that. The Crystal of Darkness was shatterered.
Shikaree Y: Who would have thought things would turn out like this.
Ildy-goldy: Broken!? Then vhat of the sleeping gods!?
Shikaree Y: Surely youve figured it out, pumpkin?
I wasnt able to meet them.
etc etc, and talks about some more CoP stuff that I wont spoil here.

anyway.. no new northlands avatar protocrystal.
and the lake it mentions is definitely the BC for the bearclaw pinnacle CoP mission, and probably ENMs as well.

Well, it turns out that I was right!!

They were talking about diabolos, you don't get to see the protocrystal though

RE: hmmm
# Jul 15 2006 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
This is incorrect you were not right. Diabalos is a Terrestrial avatar, not a celestial and therefore he is not the avatar of Dark and will not ever have a protocrystal. The avatar of darkness is Odin, and as we now know he is running around aht urghan forking people in the ***. Apparently his proto crystal is broken and therefore hes not contained in it anymore.

Spoilers:

Seems to me in retrospect that this was actually a seal on Promathia, and had nothing to do with avatars. This becomes evident if you do the quest after completing COP, but also makes the quest a little silly because you already know things (and expect that the Shikaree would know) that the NPCs are speculating about. Personally I wish I had done it before COP.

Very interesting turn of events, but even though that information was passed to you in a CS, doesn't mean that there will not be a new protocrystal...

Based on the guide I thought this was going to be a hard fight... so I went as 75 rdm/nin used a reraise gorget and a tavnazian taco, got 300% tp before starting, blah blah.

Yeah, this fight was a joke. You can sleep the wasps, they can also be enfeebled. They each have around 2800 hp. I guess it's worth being prepared for the worst though, you never know when you'll take an abnormally strong final sting.

I tryed to get to the watter falls today but I could not find the way down to the watter falls. I got to the NE part of the jungle where the falls are but there was a clift and what looked like a one way path up to the clift from the watter fall.
RE: How do you get to the ???
# Nov 15 2005 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
I just confirmed, the ??? is NOT in the lower level of the jungle, it is in the upper level overlooking the lower level. Go to K-7 on the ledge and it's almost in the middle of the square. You do not go through Ifrit's to do this quest.

From Kazham go to H-6, fall down hole
head south till you get out of the caves at I-7
take NE passage to J/K-7
??? is oh the NE most part of the Ledge in K-7
RE: How do you get to the ???
# Sep 28 2006 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent
To clarify, it's not the north-east above-ground path, it's the tunnel leading east from the floor of the pit at I-7.

Beat the wasps comfortably as 73pld/war had planned to try take out 2-3 with sword/shield then if needed use spirit taker on the last few if low mp, but that wasnt needed they died fast enough missed a lot and hit about 20 a go. Highly recommend bringing some antidotes though if you dont have poisona, there normal attacks have added effect poison (was very rare only happened 3 times during the fight) but it ate 15hp a tick I think though wore off fast enough.

Peppers took about 20-25kills

I just soloed all the wasps as a 67rdm/blm. Pretty easy with sleepga, although I had a few ivory lizards walk over to me that got hit with it also. I had an empy hairpin on and they couldn't hit me most of the time.

Fought the bee NM's last night as a 72 RDM/BLM. It was very simple with the liberal use of Sleepga, but it would be tough without it, at least solo. The bunch of jabanero peppers (which is Ex, but not Rare) dropped on the 6th or 8th Mantrap I fought.

Although you get the title and the 6000 gil when the quest technically ends (after the cutscene in Beaucedine), you have to go back to Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst to get the Cache-nez.
