Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Moon Orb, which is obtained by trading 60 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Moon Orb to the Burning Circle inside Balga's Dais and choose to enter the battle Wild Wild Whiskers.

Your party will be deleveled to 60 when you do this encounter. Your party may consist of 3 members. You have 15 minutes to defeat your enemy. You will be fighting a coeurl called Macan Gadangan that casts Thundaga, Thundaga II, and Burst, and uses all the normal Coeurl weaponskills. However, it has a few new WS. Macan Gadangan has an ability called Frenzied Rage, which seems to be something like a Meditate skill, as it would follow up with a WS almost instantly after. Usually, after Frenzied Rage, it would follow up with a WS called Charged Whisker that is AOE, and does lightning damage that did 480 damage on average to Courier Carrie. It also can use a WS called Pounce that is single target and seems to be physical damage. That WS did 400 damage to Courier Carrie. As a 60 BST with something like 220 defense and 50 VIT, Macan Gadangan did 120 damage a swing to me on average.

Strategies

The best party for this BCNM is Nin, Whm, and a DD preferably with /THF.

Buff up and first thing the Whm does is Silence once and when it wears don't silence again now all that Macan Gadangan will do is cast Burst and melee which makes this bcnm a cakewalk for this trio

kaht, you should have read my post =P

i said, 1 spot is already for whm and pld will have problem because the couerl loves to burst =P

that was exactly your problems =)

hmm and anoki, dont go without whm..

blm wont have any problems to nuke i did well as a rdm.. but you will not be able to silence it more than 2 times.. and second time it wears off pretty fast..

go nin, whm, blm or nin, whm, rng and you will win for sure

Only problem is NIN are vulnerable to AoE spells, and will be vulnerable to melee attacks after an AoE spell lands. Taking someone to stun those AoE spells would be a good idea if you're taking a NIN. You can also time a silence to cut off a spell mid-cast if needed.

NIN WHM BLM perhaps.

trust me, with us, he didnt cast a single thundaga or thundaga II.. and thats the only aoe spell he has..

and even if it landed, he hit for 150-200, and with slow a good nin will for sure be able to recast utsusemi..

we did 3 times, and the only thing he does is attack and cast Burst lol..
A few questions... if you please. ^^

I have the same setup as Kaht here, and I'm curious about the way everything went down. Kaht, would you mind going into detail about how this BCNM went down, please? A couple of questions I have are:

1. Did your paladin have Barthundra on at the moment of his untimely demise?
2. How far into the battle had you been before the MOB began using Ancient Magic?
3. Did your paladin take heavy PHYSICAL hits from the MOB, or was it an easy tanking job until the MOB began using MAGICAL attacks?
4. Did any of you use food and medicines?
5. Do you know if your BLM had any problems landing spells?
6. Did your BLM use any ancient magic of his own (Quake, Freeze, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any and all info you can give me. We're still going to try this setup, if at all possible, and we want to have the best chance at it the first time we go. ^^

Anoki, sorry about the really late response. Also to follow up DrTkyi, we did the BCNM before your post. As a matter of fact, I templogged right before we left for balgas to check allakhazam for pointers on the fight. The only post so far was what the drops were. Now, to answer your questions anoki:
1. Yes, barthundra was the last spell I cast on the party before we engaged the mob. It did not wear off before the mob cast burst.
2. We had taken about 15%-20% of the mob's life before he cast burst.
3. The physical damage the paladin took was nothing out of the ordinary. The paladin (Zonobia) is a fairly well equipped paladin with most of the good +vit equipment he can wear at level 60. The damage he took was nothing that the rdm couldn't easily keep up with.
4. The rdm and I both used melon pies and the pld used the new 3 hour fishkabob substitute. We all also brought 3 yagudo drinks each.
5. I had no problem landing spells. Since the rdm was subbed blm I was the person responsible for casting paralyna and silena on the pld, so I mainly used Stone3 (since coeurl are weak to stone) and none of my damage spells were resisted.
6. I wouldn't have used any AM in this fight unless I was manafonted. For a fight like this 300+ mana for one spell that you can only cast 2 times (my MP was roughly 820) would be too cripling too your mana pool

As I posted in my prior thread I really wouldn't suggest this party setup again to someone else unless your paladin is extremely good at watching for AM and can get out of range each time. And even then, this party affords no solution on how to deal with petrify, so I really wouldn't suggest it. As DrTkyi said above, you need to be sure to bring a whm for Stona, otherwise I'd say bring a rdm.

Attempted this BCNM last night, wish I would have waited until there was more documentation on it. Party setup was pld/war, rdm/blm, blm/whm. The fight was smooth as could be until he used Burst. Stun was resisted, as was shield bash from the pld. Burst hit the pld for 11xx damage and he died immediately. As the rdm and I began to zone I was petrified and he began casting burst on me. Luckily petrify wore off and I was able to get out of range in time.

If I had to make a suggestion for everyone, I would say to bring a nin tank unless your pld can keep a very close eye on burst and get out of range every time. Also, petrify will be a problem if you try to escape burst's range, so it seems imperative to bring a whm for stona.

Other than that his HP's were dropping fairly fast, so if you can provide a defensively solid party, this should not be a hard fight.
easy

pretty easy bcnm..
it resist to silence very fast, so dont bother casting..

you NEED whm for this bcnm, you have 2 spots only, 1 is already for whm..
it does the attack that petrify ALL the time..
nin tank is better, didnt do with pld, but i think it will have problems, especially because the coeurl loves to use Burst..

i did whm,nin,rdm
rdm nukes blizzard II and aero II (best spells for it)
nin tanks and whm stona..
perfect setup for this would be whm, nin, rng

the secret for it is the nin tanking.. first time we did our nin didnt took a single dmg.. second time he got hit once and third 2 times.. it took a good deal of hp for each hit..
so whm doesnt need to heal and uses ALL his mana to cure status effect and haste..

He uses petrify for sure. I had blm blm nin setup was going good till he was petra the nin ><. I swithced to whm so we had blm whm nin setup and it basicly came down to if the nin keepted blink on and tanked half decent you'd win.
