Follow Prishe to Cape Riverne on the Misareaux Coast. It is rumored a wyrm nests there...

Walkthrough

After speaking with Ulmia and returning to Tavnazian Safehold (Mission 2-4), "Ancient Vows" should now appear in your CoP mission log. In this mission, you will be traveling through Riverne - Site #A01, an area that is capped at level 40. Note that as of the September 2008 update, level appropriate gear is not required for level-capped areas. However, it may be recommended for optimum performance.

To begin, head to the Dilapidated Gate in (F-7) of Misareaux Coast to trigger a cut scene featuring the three infamous Tarutarus, Cherukiki, Makki-Cherukiki, Kukki-Cherukki. Once you are on the other side of the gate, you will see a "Spatial Displacement." Entering the displacement will warp you into Riverne - Site #A01.

To get through Riverne - Site #A01, you must go through four more spatial displacements until you finally reach the BC area. To get through the second and third displacements, you will need to trade a Dragon Scale, which is dropped by Firedrakes. They spawn in the area between the first and second displacement. You will need two Dragon Scales to get through the entire Riverne - Site #A01.

Once you enter from Misareaux Coast, the first spatial displacement is in (L-8). Once you enter this displacement you will be in the area where the Firedrakes spawn. After you have two Dragon Scales, trade one scale to the "Unstable Displacement" in (G-10) and you will be warped into the third area. This area has Atomic Clusters that aggro to sight and magic, so get invisible up and head to the displacement in (E-10) and trade the other Dragon Scale and enter the unstable displacement. This next area is filled with incredibly tough mobs that have true sight, so be careful. Just walk along to right edge to reach the last displacement.

Entering this displacement will warp you to an uncapped area of Monarch Linn where you can enter the Level 40 cap Boss BC area. This uncapped area is a good place to go over fighting strategy and make sure all macros are working properly. After entering the Battlefield, you will receive a cut scene. Now is a good time for the White Mage to cast Reraise. Defeating the three Mammet-19 Epsilons will end this mission.

The Mammet-19 Epsilons are capable of switching jobs during battle. Yellow Liquid, when used, will lock the targeted Mammet's job for around 30 seconds. The different jobs are identified by the weapon the mammet is wielding. The mammets' jobs and abilities are as follows: In any given form, they can use the move Tremorous Tread, which does AOE Damage and stun. It can be absorbed by shadows.

  • No weapon - The mammets' original form.
    • Transmogrification - While active, the mammet will absorb all physical damage dealt to it and convert it to HP.
  • Sword - Fast attack speed
    • Scission Thrust - Directional AOE attack
    • Sonic Blade - AOE Attack
    • Velocious Blade - Five hit single target attack
  • Staff - Slow attack speed, uses -ga elemental magic, has lower defense.
    • Mind Wall - While in effect, any damage dealt to the mammet by elemental magic spells will be absorbed and converted to HP.
    • Psychomancy - AOE Apsir type effect that drains 80+ MP from everyone in range.
  • Polearm - Hits hard but attack speed is rather slow.
    • Gravity Wheel - AOE Damage with Gravity effect.
    • Microquake - Single target damage
    • Percussive Foin - Direction AOE damage

The most common strategy is to have two of the mammets kited and to kill them off one at a time. Jobs that are good at kiting in this mission are:

  • RDM/NIN with good evasion gear
  • BST with jug pets
  • SMN with Carbuncle

Once you defeat all of the Mammet-19 Epsilons, there will be a cut scene after which you will be teleported to South Gustaberg.

Just cleared this BCNM. PT configuration:

RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
RDM/NIN
RDM/BLM
NIN/WAR
WHM/BLM (me)

Our strategy was this:

RNGs run in and Shadowbind the left and right Mammets, with the RDMs following. RDMs began debuffing their respective Mammets to build hate before Shadowbind wears off. The NIN provoked the middle Mammet and ran back into the tunnel with the RNGs and me following. RNGs did not engage the Mammet with melee attacks, because doing so would just give them TP for their devastating specials.

The RNGs went to town on the first one, making sure to hold back when the Mammet did its Transmogrification thing. I silenced the Mammet whenever it changed jobs to BLM. Silence sticks very well on these, I was only resisted near the end.

Meanwhile, the RDMs were busy kiting with Bind. The Mammets have an extremely high resistance to Gravity; the RDMs couldn't get it to stick even with Elemental Seal. However, Bind proved to be very effective at stopping them. Using Bind, the RDMs were able to keep the Mammets at a distance during the fight.

Once the first one died, NIN went out and provoked the next one off the RDM, and we repeated the process of killing it. No 2hours were used during the fight, as we had just used them the fight before.

Items used by me:
4 Yagudo Drinks
1 Vile Elixir
1 Snoll Gelato

1 Yellow Liquid was used near the end of the fight, which we didn't seem to need.

Me and some friends did this a couple weeks ago. Totally SMASHED the record! 3 mins and 14 seconds ^^ beat previous by 7 whole mins! Here's what we did, 4 smns, rng and brd. brd ballads, smns summon and all Astral Flow the center one, hopefulling hitting at least 2 if not 3 of the guys. kite or w/e and resummon if nec., RNG can barage the low hp ones or EES to take em out, if evey SMN can land at least 1 Astral, flow and at least half get 2 of them, victory is in the bag ^^ took a few tries to get it right, but smns can do anything! Trying same pt on Diabolos...
solid strategy.

OK maybe it's just me but this battle was actually fairly easy when we did it. Record was 13 minutes 50 seconds, we did it in 16 and some change. Not only that, but we did it twice. We did 1 death run, and 2 real runs. Went 2/2 on the real runs.

First party setup:
THF/NIN
THF/NIN
WAR/NIN
SMN/WHM
RDM/BLM
RNG/NIN

Everyone had at least 12 hi-potions.

From my point of view (THF):

I had 13 Hi-Potions, 3 X-Potions, 1 vile elixir, 6 yellow liquids, 4 Periskos au Lait, and 1 Hermes Quencher. I also ate a Jack-o-Lantern for the +10 Evasion. With all my gear and food i was at +36 evasion and +19 Agility. Capped marksmanship and evasion.

RNG and SMN opened with 2 hour, WAR skillchained on himself using an Icarus Wing, and I pulled left Mammet with Venom Bolts (poison kept hate), and other THF pulled right Mammet with something or another. His Marksmanship was pretty weak so it wasn't a crossbow, who knows. maybe a boomerang or something. Ranger died sometime while fighting the first Mammet and didn't have reraise up. Oops. Only 5 people for a good three-fourths of the battle. I had a very easy time keeping hate. It left me once or twice, and I had to shoot at it about twice to get hate back. I recommend 2 Archer's Knives so you don't miss. I had a Chiroptera Dagger and Marauder's Knife. Yellow Liquid worked like a charm, except when I accidentally locked it onto BLM. That owned me pretty bad and ate up a lot of my hi-potions. I think it locks it for about 20-30 seconds, 6 of them is more than enough though. I found the easiest job to fight is against monk, it misses like crazy and hits surprisingly weak. about 40 per hit when it does hit. Just macro your Yellow Liquid and whenever you see it hit for not very much damage, turn around and use it on him. I had to hit Perfect Dodge once because my shadows fell at a bad time, and I also used my Hermes Quencher about the time the second one was nearing death.

The first one went down pretty quick and since the other guy didn't have as good gear and couldn't keep hate as well (no Status Bolts) he brought his in first. They killed it and I brought mine in. Killed it. 16 minutes, 32 seconds. overall was not nearly as hard as I had expected. Seriously, bring as many potions as you can, you won't regret it. Instead of bringing a white mage just bring more damage.

Second party setup (purchased same item / medicine setup as before):
THF/NIN
THF/NIN
WAR/NIN
SMN/WHM
RDM/BLM
BLM/WHM

This one was a bit harder, possibly because the other THF was the person who was the RNG in the previous party and hadn't really planned on doing thief and so gear wasn't optimal for +Evasion. Also didn't have hi-potions, only potions which was a problem. To top it all off, nobody had 2 hours because of previous fight. A couple of people got into serious red more than once. SMN died early and reraised and just kept fighting weakened. RDM was getting his *** kicked but managed to not die. In particular he almost died once when hate changed from me to him and i didn't notice it. Again, I locked it onto black mage accidentally at one point this time because he used his job change almost immediately when I clicked the Yellow Liquid macro. stupid jerk >< I had a slightly harder time keeping shadows up this time, so i ran through more potions than before. probably because i got unlucky and he used his warrior job which totally raped me. Double Attack hurts bad when each hit is 120 points.

After the first one was dead the other THF brought theirs in for the same reason as previous fight. Everyone was getting yellow and red now so it was hard, but they killed it and I brought mine in. I died when it had about 50% hp left but i reraised immediately and stood on the sidelines and fired Venom and Acid Bolts at it which stuck pretty well. That was it.

Overall Recommendation for THF: If your Marksmanship and Evasion are capped, and if you go in with a ton of +Evasion gear, Thief is an extremely good kiter. As mentioned, I had +36 Evasion (couldn't find a Linen Double +1 ><) and +19 Agility. We didn't even have a white mage in either of the setups, which I got the idea for after talking to a few people who said their white mage didn't really do anything super useful except benediction and that wasn't unti 3rd mammet.

General Battle Recommendation: Spend a lot of money on it. Some people have done it 5 times. Probably spent 20k per battle per person. Instead of that, they could have spent 50k and gotten it the first time. More potions = white mage not needed = more damage. As soon as you kill the first one, you've pretty much won the battle as far as I'm concerned. Worst case scenario after killing first one is that everyone dies on the second one, reraise by the stairs and rest up, then go into the battle fully healed and reprepped, except now there's one less mob. I have a video of our fight, but can't host it due to bandwidth limitations ><

Some notes:
Overall tried Gravity a total of 4 times over the course of 2 fights. Never stuck. Don't waste your time.

Silence sticks well on the Mammets. Use it when they change to black mage. If you can Elemental Seal it as well, great.

Not sure what Echo Drops are for, as they don't silence you.

Suggested kiter is not RDM/NIN but rather NIN/WAR or THF/NIN (see previous discussion). the RDM/NIN in our party was getting eaten alive when his shadows went down, even with +evasion.

I know it sounds sketchy, and risky, and dangerous. But you just don't need a white mage. Fill the slot with extra damage. Damage = First one dies faster = win.

Just did this today, would like to add some things:
Our setup was nin/war, nin/war, rng/nin, rng/nin, whm, rdm. If your ninjas are any good at all, you won't need to kite this. Before entering the BC, assign one ninja the left Mammet; the other the right. After buffing up, each ninja grabs their target and drags it back towards the entrance. The two rangers then unload on the center one (EES, Barrage, WS), rdm and whm keeping them healed and enfeebled. After you beat this center one, you've basically won. Pick a ninja and take on his/her mammet, while the other ninja continues to tank. Finally, finish off the last one.

OK, I'll write this not to usurp but as a supplement to what the op wrote.

Riverne Site - #A01 is a beautiful zone that is capped at 40.

Wyvern: mini Typhoon Wyvern and have the same abilities, and aggro Truesight

Gryphons [Hippogryph, Cloud Hippogryph ect]: have a dispelga, can hit with additional effect: Gravity, and have a conical damage attack. They are Truesight but are very nearsighted, and have a short aggro range, But they turn quickly.

Clusters: Sight and Magic aggro, and can explode and still fight.

OK, Once you hit Monarch Lynn you see an excellent cutscene, I won't give spoilers but Wow! You have to fight 3 Faceless named Mammet-19. The Faceless can change jobs but start out having no class [harr harr] I've seen them as:
WAR [with sword, Bad war!]
BLM [with staff, Very dangerous, uses Blizzaga]
DRG [with lance, very accurate, but not as hard-hitting]
DRK [big, slow, hits hard]
No Class [uses a hand-ray, very weak, keep them here if possible]

The Faceless Use:
A bad AoE damage ability.
Transmogrification: For about 30 seconds they absorb all physical damage, Unlock and turn around.
Magic Shield: For about 30 seconds they absorb all magic damage. No nuke please.
Weapon swap: not an ability per se, but they change jobs, Just watch the weapon.

You can use Yellow Liquid to freeze them in one Job for for about 60 seconds. hmmm, Liquid that is used on Mammets? Mammory liquid? Anywho, I digress.

The way my team won was with 2SMN.WHM WAR/NIN RNG/NIN RDM/BLM and WHM/BLM

the 2 SMN carby-kited the two outside Faceless, keeping them occupied. a NIN or THF/NIN can do the same thing here. Make sure that the SMN DON'T USE YELLOW FLUID, It will draw hate off their summon, and slaughter them. The other 4 of us attacked the last mammet. Plan on a Long Fight. and take your time. We won without using any 2hr abilities. a RDM is good for this because they can Convert to fill their MP pool and heal while the WHM rests. Also when they switch to BLM you can silence. The only enfeebles I managed to stick on them were:
Bind [RNG blessed me for this at one point]
Silence
Gravity
Dia2 [I can confirm that this did stick because I got the message that it wore off mid-fight]
Everything else was repeatedly resisted, even on elemental seal.

After the first one was down we took on one of the SMN's while the other continued to kite [have yag-drinks if you don't have Carby Mitts]

After defeating these you find yourself landing in a barren wasteland [also known as South Gustaberg] and Prishne runs off to find Cid, [cutscene in the airship dock]

Anyways, Rate as you find it useful, and if you're on Unicorn, send me a /tell if you need help, I'll do it again just to have more people to help on the next mission =^.^=
