Mission Orders

Follow Prishe to Cape Riverne on the Misareaux Coast. It is rumored a wyrm nests there...

Walkthrough

After speaking with Ulmia and returning to Tavnazian Safehold (Mission 2-4), "Ancient Vows" should now appear in your CoP mission log. In this mission, you will be traveling through Riverne - Site #A01, an area that is capped at level 40. Note that as of the September 2008 update, level appropriate gear is not required for level-capped areas. However, it may be recommended for optimum performance.

To begin, head to the Dilapidated Gate in (F-7) of Misareaux Coast to trigger a cut scene featuring the three infamous Tarutarus, Cherukiki, Makki-Cherukiki, Kukki-Cherukki. Once you are on the other side of the gate, you will see a "Spatial Displacement." Entering the displacement will warp you into Riverne - Site #A01.

To get through Riverne - Site #A01, you must go through four more spatial displacements until you finally reach the BC area. To get through the second and third displacements, you will need to trade a Dragon Scale, which is dropped by Firedrakes. They spawn in the area between the first and second displacement. You will need two Dragon Scales to get through the entire Riverne - Site #A01.

Once you enter from Misareaux Coast, the first spatial displacement is in (L-8). Once you enter this displacement you will be in the area where the Firedrakes spawn. After you have two Dragon Scales, trade one scale to the "Unstable Displacement" in (G-10) and you will be warped into the third area. This area has Atomic Clusters that aggro to sight and magic, so get invisible up and head to the displacement in (E-10) and trade the other Dragon Scale and enter the unstable displacement. This next area is filled with incredibly tough mobs that have true sight, so be careful. Just walk along to right edge to reach the last displacement.

Entering this displacement will warp you to an uncapped area of Monarch Linn where you can enter the Level 40 cap Boss BC area. This uncapped area is a good place to go over fighting strategy and make sure all macros are working properly. After entering the Battlefield, you will receive a cut scene. Now is a good time for the White Mage to cast Reraise. Defeating the three Mammet-19 Epsilons will end this mission.

The Mammet-19 Epsilons are capable of switching jobs during battle. Yellow Liquid, when used, will lock the targeted Mammet's job for around 30 seconds. The different jobs are identified by the weapon the mammet is wielding. The mammets' jobs and abilities are as follows: In any given form, they can use the move Tremorous Tread, which does AOE Damage and stun. It can be absorbed by shadows.

  • No weapon - The mammets' original form.
    • Transmogrification - While active, the mammet will absorb all physical damage dealt to it and convert it to HP.
  • Sword - Fast attack speed
    • Scission Thrust - Directional AOE attack
    • Sonic Blade - AOE Attack
    • Velocious Blade - Five hit single target attack
  • Staff - Slow attack speed, uses -ga elemental magic, has lower defense.
    • Mind Wall - While in effect, any damage dealt to the mammet by elemental magic spells will be absorbed and converted to HP.
    • Psychomancy - AOE Apsir type effect that drains 80+ MP from everyone in range.
  • Polearm - Hits hard but attack speed is rather slow.
    • Gravity Wheel - AOE Damage with Gravity effect.
    • Microquake - Single target damage
    • Percussive Foin - Direction AOE damage

The most common strategy is to have two of the mammets kited and to kill them off one at a time. Jobs that are good at kiting in this mission are:

  • RDM/NIN with good evasion gear
  • BST with jug pets
  • SMN with Carbuncle

Once you defeat all of the Mammet-19 Epsilons, there will be a cut scene after which you will be teleported to South Gustaberg.

I don't know why everyone has such trouble...

Ok, my first run of this, we used a PLD kite...for the 2hr (in case things got bad)...here's the setup

WHM/SMN
PLD
BLM/RDM
RDM/WHM (me ^^ )
NIN/WAR
MNK

Normal kiting with sight aggro (yes, the PLD kite could EVEN SUB NIN) and pulling back to a camp in the cave...but with a PLD kite and a WHM devoted entirely to keeping the PLD alive, standing in the middle of the arena with the PLD kiting the mammets around him.

The MNK would pull a single mammet back at a time, I would regen him, pop ethers and juices as needed, and the NIN tank would take over the hate while the BLM and MNK merrily damaged it to death. The MNK was in charge of sticking yellow liquids on the mammets.

We killed the first two mammets this way then walked out into the arena (we were gravitied >< ) to help out with the last one -- who insisted he would be a BLM. We used up the last of our MP, the WHM 2hred, the melee beat it to death.

We all went home happy.

The funny thing is...we all made mistakes (which we admit to) and we STILL WON. I forgot to use my pie, the MNK stuck one yellow liquid on NIN mode (which is very killable but longer to kill than DRG mode) once, the PLD didn't bring as many juices as he reflected he should have...and WE WON ANYWAY.

Alla is a good resource but once again I disagree with PT setup suggestions. I've won this one 6 times in a row now with this same setup. War/NIN RDM/BLM RDM/BLM BLM/WHM WHM/SMN(me) NIN/WAR. Major point being missed here is blm is best sub for the rdm as the rdm needs extra intelligence and enfeebling skill for this, as well as elemental seal in an emergency where bind gets resisted. Party pulls them 1 at a time into area where you enter BC in the cave. The 2 Rdm's are kiters but here's the deal the RDM's will continually Bind, then run away-saving Chainspell for as long as possible and keep buffs up. Blm should be standing on edge of pt fighting area closest to where the RDMs are kiting as a backup Binder and healer for fighting part of pt. Refrain from healing kites if possible but make sure bind sticks. Kites should have hi pots and ethers so there will be no need. Whm should have several ethers as well as yagudo drinks, but again whm only focuses on part of pt fighting. Hopefully your rdm has proper meds. Warrior does 2 hr straight off in first fight to kill the first as fast as possible. As each dies PT pulls next one to same area. RDMs join in fightinging last one and it should die as quick as the first. Done! Yellow liquid is not vital in my opinion but is helpful if you freeze them at blm then ES silence.

I would have to agree here. My opinion isnt based on my success, rather my defeat. Went to Riverne with 2 friends just to see what i would be up against from a navigation perspective. Went in RDM/NIN RDM/NIN SMN/WHM. Killed a few things and noticed a party was just entering. The other RDM asked if they needed a couple people. We ended up joining the alliance and making our way through. I kinda had a feeling that our gear wasnt good enough to fight (we had our /nin gear on... eva+ att+ mp+. The other RDM didnt even have back, waist, neck gear. We certainly didnt plan on participating in 2-5). I found out rather quickly that my guess was right and my INT was way too low. With full magna on an elvaan i was a mere +5 on already garbage INT. That /nin didnt help in that department.

We get to Monarch Linn and first they go PLD, BLM, WHM, MNK, NIN, RDM/NIN (the other RDM, not me). Wiped within 3 minutes. From what i hear the RDMs spells werent sticking. They die, come back out, raise, rest, go back in for another shot. This time, 2 people who were sharing a connection had issues and D/C'd midfight. Needless to say, death. Then they say they wanna try with 2 nin kiters. I pretend like I didnt hear and waited for them to boot me, which they didnt. So I go in +5 INT and all. Ate some rolanberry pie to hopefully help the INT situation. Buffed up, got yag drink from the WHM, got hi-pots from someone else, ran in to kite. I start off with a single Bind..... sticks for like 30 seconds. So at that point i was like "cake", but then bind wore, gravity wasnt helpin, my bind recast resisted. I tried to run around a bit but i kept crossin the nin kiter and we would both feel the wrath of Ga spells. So I ran to the side, used hi-pots and tried to chainspell but couldnt get it off in time. I died, shortly after the nin died. The rest soon followed. I have kited many many mobs in many circumstances. I highly doubt there was any problem beyond my lack of INT.

So, to conclude my unnecessarily long post.... RDMs... either sub /blm or go /nin loaded with INT+ and Spell Interuption gear. With enough INT and proper timing your bind and gravity should buy you enough time to recast without utsusemi. And if worse comes to worst... Chainspell.

Another thought. Maybe bring a pair of Powder Boots for an emergency. If bind and grav miss and u are waiting on recast, you can always Flee far enough away to get some recasts. I wouldnt go out and buy just for this unless you plan on doing multiple times. Can only use once every 10 minutes.

Regarding 2-5: OWNED.
# Jan 16 2006 at 8:16 PM Rating: Decent
We just OWNED this mission. Garuda server, I was 0/1 with it. We had tried it last night, but had a D/c in the middle of the second mammet, which lead to our demise. However, we tried again today, with the following setup:

Aryujin - DRG/WAR, Me
Gaara - SMN/NIN
Chafarrra - SMN/NIN
Lecrilion - MNK/WAR
Coropliese - WHM/?
Zealott - PLD/WAR

OWNED. Not a single death, which in the event of one, we had heavily planned for. Everyone overprepared themselves with Hi-Potions, X-Potions, Hi-Ethers, Food, etc. The SMN/NIN's, Gaara and Chafarrra, kited the mammets, EXCELLENTLY, at that. Lecrilion and I two-houred the first mammet to down it quickly, Chafarrra had Ifrit Inferno our second Mammet to finish it off, and the Paladin two-houred on the final Mammet (it was pissed ^^). We kept it locked on to either Dragoon or whatever job the sword signified, because they were the least hard on the tank. Every one of these people did excellently, i'm glad that I was able to do this mission with them. I know that Coropliese was 0/10 with this mission, and Zealott was 0/2, I believe. I am glad we all got our well-deserved win with this mission. ^^

Our linkshell planned heavily for this and we were very successful. Setup:

RDM/nin
rdm/nin
pld/war
thf/war
mnk/war
brd/whm

Items: (we have a high level cook and a reasonably high level alch, so..) Hi pots all around, mulsums for everyone with mp, melon juices, au laits all around, 4 yellow liquids, tacos for the tank and two rdm-kiters.

We did a bare runthrough once, expecting to fail and nearly killed one mammet the first time through which was really positive for us.. it had about 3% hp left when we wiped. One of the rdm used reraise beforehand so he raised us all and we prepared for the main fight.

Main fight: Everyone buffs up with au lait, food, reraise.

Strategy: Tank pulls one, rdm's pull the others to seperate areas of the arena to kite them around with bind and debuffs. PLD Will tank and use yellow liquid when mob converts to blm form, then mnk will 2hr and beat the snot out of it, eliminating one mammet as quickly as possible. Bard was soulvoice/double-paeon the whole time to keep the regen rate of the main group super high while they fought..

It went perfectly, we had quite the annoying macro to alert the melee team that transmogrification was happening(when the mob absorbs damage for HP) so that worked rather well. No one in our group was in the yellow by the time the first mammet was dead, so i(rdm) brought mine over when they announced it was about to die. I was starting to take heavy damage since Bind wasn't landing and i think it was in dragoon form, so it was perfect timing.

I threw a couple more debuffs on the current target then went to go help the other rdm with kiting the last one, and from that point it was about as easy as it could get. 2 RDM's to occupy one of those was more than enough and they killed off the last two in no time.

People are welcome to use this checklist to prepare their items as it was all very helpful. I only ended up using maybe 2-3 hi potions and a few mulsum, 1 juice.. and we were quite fine. The tank used quite a bit which was awesome because that's what it was all there for =)
We won, finally!

^_^ My LS on Ifrit, xSkyValleyx, (the best social LS evarrr! :P), put together a team and we managed to beat it perfectly. I also FRAPSed our fight, so if you want to see what is coming, I have it uploaded. This was our setup:

WHM/BLM (Celly, me!!^^)
RNG/NIN (Cledis)
NIN/WAR (Jrc)
NIN/WAR (Redmaige)
PLD/WAR (Gerien)
THF/NIN (Mudfly)

A little bit different from others, but it worked beautifully. Mud noticed another time that his Bloody Bolts drained a lot of HP from the mammets, even when they had absorb shield up, so he came as THF this time. He pulled the middle mammet into the hallway. I kept the NINs hasted, letting each NIN solo a mammet to keep them busy while the rest of us beat on the other mammet. After our mammet went down, we helped out the NIN who needed help most, and killed that one next. Then we went and killed the last Mammet. We also had the "Zombie Method" as a backup plan. Everyone had two ways to Reraise, and planned on dying in the hallway where we could get back up safely.... but we didn't need to. :)

Anyway, here's the movie, FRAPSed and compressed by me! :P Took me forever to compress it right, so I'm kinda proud, haha. Enjoy!
I do realize it'll take a long time to download, but I know watchin someone else do a quest or BCNM fight helps me prepare mentally for it... So maybe it'll help you out, too. ^^;

I found a GREAT stratedgy for this. get a bunch of DD! Have one Nin/War kite 2 of the mobs. here's how they will accomplish this. They will need like 6 Hi Potions, and 4 pairs of Powder Boots. I did this and kept the 2 kited for 3 minutes. plenty of time to kill the first one. after that, rdm can come help bind/grav while others kill 2nd.

I did this today.

Setup was

PLD/WAR (me(
DRG/WAR
NIN/WAR
BLM/WHM
RDM/NIN (40/17)
WHM/???

The way to the BC was much easier then I though. We had 2 aggros at first floor and nothing else.

The plan for BC was the RDM to kite left one, the NIN the right one.

The RDM died with 120MP left and without using Convert, he seemed not experienced to tank/kite enemy ^^
When the RDM died we were still fighting the first Mammet, so the NIN had to tank 2 of them and BLM used 2hr to kill the mammet quickly.
I engaged the second Mammet and used invicible, to give the WHM time to raise the RDM, and we slowly killed the second. Nearly out of MP, we went to the third Mammet and.. surprise! The NIN fought it without kite, using a lot of potion, it was about at 30-40% HP and we could win easily with the last assault ^^

So we had no use of RDM, we had to Raise him and we still won. Take 2 good NINs with you and it's pretty easy fight.

Just tried this 3 times, and iv gotta say rdm sucks as a kiter in this!!
Either that or its just me =P

Nah i've kited on many bcnm's, and not had a problem...
Enfeebling capped by a mile, but gravity stuck maybe twice across all 3 attempts, bind once =(
If you stop to heal they are on you very quickly, and they hit fairly fast depending on what job they end up on, but at least one always seemed to end up on blm and stick there....no guarantee they will change to drg at all ; ;

The smn did a far better job kiting, using carby to keep one occupied, and recasting from the other side of the bcnm when he was dead...
If i did this again I would recommend SMN or BST kiters....it will make things way easier!

The key to beating tbis, is just to keep the other ones occupied while one is taken care of.
BST and SMN are definitely the way to go.

Ah well, blm next time I go ^_^;

EDIT:

Ah well i mustve just sucked *** last time =P
Still never got it done cos other kiter died both tries this time (smn then rdm).

Red Mage can be a damn good kiter, but bind is your friend since gravity almost never lands....
Kite to the back of the field when ya need to recast...> bind ...> {Run Away} ...> recast utsu / stoneskin ;)

Last time i was told to stick to the back of the arena incase it turns to blm and casts aoe...not a good plan, you cant kite successfully without using the whole arena (except the tunnel =P)
If you're kiting as anything other than smn or bst (who can use pets to keep them occupied) then use the whole arena! =)

If you manage to get through the first one with 2 kiters alive, this is {easy prey} but after going 0/5 for that very reason, this is definitely the hardest part XD

All I have to say about this BC is wow, that was a hell of a lot easier than everyone said. Set up was NIN NIN WAR MNK RNG WHM, NINs kited the two outside ones, I tanked the middle. Hundred Fists + Eagle Eye Shot + Mighty Strikes brought first down in a matter of about 40 seconds. Then we killed off the next, and then the third. BTW they have horrible acc, they missed me at least 50% of the time as ELV WAR/NIN with eva+5. They do not have good evasion either, so meat is fine for this fight.

Throughout the fight, the WHM used a Turbo Ether & a Yagudo Drink, none of the melees used any medicine at all, other than yellow liquid, as the WHM had plenty of MP to keep us healed. Honestly, this fight isn't near as tough as some make it out to be. I expected a sure wipe on my first run, but it turned out to be really easy, as these things have **** def, eva, and acc in all forms.

If your kiters die, so does the rest of your party. It only takes a few seconds for one of them to switch to BLM and nuke everyone to death. Those aga spells wipe shadows very quickly and deal insane damage to everyone. Also, you're a warrior with higher evasion than mage classes. Many choose RDM/NIN kiters (a poor choice imo) which have the lowest evasion of any job and rely heavily on equipment for it.
RE: Wow....
# Jan 31 2006 at 9:40 AM Rating: Decent
Your information is wrong I am afraid. I havn't seen all job's evasion caps, but I do know for a fact that RDM evasion caps higher than a WHM's evasion.

Learned the hard way
# Dec 22 2005 at 6:40 PM Rating: Decent
I failed my mission but I have to tell you something that I did learn from doing it. Thf CAN kite these. I found out the hard way. After all the rdm's and smn died I was told to kite it. I tried to get its attention with range weapon couldn't, so I had to engage and then unlock target. But after it started chasing me it couldn't hit me once while in blm job. I just ran counter clockwise and didn't get a hit once.

I died when party gave up and told me to run in tunnel to die. Just wanted to let you know people should experiment with different jobs. I died trying to do it the rdm-kite way (badway!).

Summoner Kiters
# Dec 19 2005 at 7:20 PM Rating: Decent
Just a note to all those parties with Summoner kiters. I've died on this mission so many times and I believe it's because of the way I was kiting these Mammots as a Summoner.

The only successful kiting method I found was having your avatar straight up tank the Mammot and running to the opposite side of the arena. After carby gets beat down, then begin summoning it again.

If you actually get your avatar to attack and then follow you around, you run the risk of having the Mammots cast a AoE spell that could knock you out.

It's way easier to follow the level 20 bcnm strategy you used in the avatar battles.

Good luck! This mission is a killer.

Party setup was:

Nin/War
War/Nin
Whm/Smn
Bst/Nin
Rdm/Nin
Rdm/Nin

Everybody got some hi-potions, echo drops (who needed), yag drinks and the melee some yellow liquid (ended up using only 2).

First time we went in was to test how things would work Rdm kiting and the rest fighting. When the first Mammet as around 30% one of the kiting Rdm died. Soon after that the second one too and the rest of us a few seconds later lol.

Next try we went in as test too but if we would get one down we would go for the win.

First buff. I (Bst/Nin) used carrie. Nin voked the middle Mammet and started tanking in the tunnel, War and Nin tanked and bounced hate, Whm was healing and the Rdm and me where kiting.
I sent carrie on one Mammet after a Rdm lost his shadows and missed gravity and kited that one using pet food and heel.
Took some time but the first Mammet went down. The two Rdm continued kiting one of the remaining two while i used 2h and joined the War (also using 2h) and Nin.
Second Mammet went down pretty fast and we engaged the last one.

Wasn't that hard. Rdm have a tougher job than Bst or Smn kiting. Was pretty easy to do with carrie.

I finally won on my fifth try, using no 2hr's and no NIN/???. It was kind of ironic since every time we lost, we had used at least ONE 2hr lol. It was a simple strategy that, using competent people for kiting, should work flawlessly, unless a melee screws something lol.

Tank, Healer x2, DD, Kiter x2.
or
Tank, DD x2, Healer, Kiter x2.

In this case, we were WAR/NIN, DRG/THF, WHM/BLM, BLM/WHM, SMN/WHM, SMN/WHM.

IF you have two healers I would recommend (not because I am one) a DRG or a MNK, since DRG's have the Wyvern, adding to faster DMG, and MNKs normally have fast Attacks as is.

If you only have one healer, have them bring 4-5 Ethers/Hi-Ethers (their choice really), because our only problem prior was empty MP pools for the Healer >.>;

Have the Kiters bring Potions (of whatever strength they feel they need) since any curing by the WHM will draw hate. At an EXTREME, Regen them if they get roughed up and outta Potions.

WAR voked middle Mammet, Left/Right Mammets kited by SMN's 1 & 2. WAR brings 1st Mammet back to the Displacement (where you start) and turns, back to the Displacement, I (the DRG) took up behind the Mammet, the WHM and BLM stood just a few feet inside the tunnel, just out of AoE Range. SMNs kited outside in the grassy field.

We melee'd, with occational SA's on the Mammet, the WAR brought Bloody Bolts as a safety net, they worked nicely. We used one Yelloq Liquid, only on the first one, locking him into his Halberd (Polearm). Only WS's used during the fight were Leg Sweep and Smash Axe, for stuns. We didn't want to set records, just wanted to take as little DMG as possible. Leg Sweep stuns lasted a lot longer then Smash Axe, either way, it helps when the WAR needed the Utsusemi back up. If a DRG is taken, make sure they SAVE their jumps for spell interruption. It is the fastest interrupt avalible unless someone has the TP for a stun, or can cast Stun. It helps tremendouly when waiting for the tranformation to the polearm.

After the first Mammet went down, we had a kiter BRING us their Mammet. The Kiter picked should be the one with the lower HP or MP, depending on the kiter's job. After we engaged the 2nd Mammet, the SMN that was now free, turned and assisted the currently kiting SMN by dual Carbuncling the 3rd Mammet.

Once at this point, it should all be smooth and easy. The BLM we ended up having cure, though I didn't see alot of activity out of him Damage Spell wise, since the WHM was running low on MP. AoEs are not really all that bad, as their only -ga Is and not II's or, god forbid, III's. The biggest problem would always be over lapping AoEs, as such, the Kiters should NEVER, bring their Mammet too close to the melees.

That was it. After the 2nd one, we all rushed and stomped the 3rd Mammet for a victory despite everyone saying a Ninja and 2hr's HAD to be used.

The setup was:
(me) SMN/WHM
Chtulu BLM/RDM
Flirri SMN/WHM
Machew SMN/WHM
Ayona SMN/WHM
Vietlonely PLD/WAR

This was all of our first tries, we made our way up riverne and eventually fought firedrakes with our 4 carbies along the way to get the scales, we dodged everything else that aggros along the way and didn't use any powders or oils. when we got to the top we went in and we all summon Ramuh (it was darkday with thunder weather) the PLD provokes the middle one and uses Invincible. All of the SMN's have ramuh attack the one that was provoked. All SMN's 2hr and bring them down quite fast, after the second round of blood pacts the middle one is dead and the other 2 are left, one more blood pact goes off from one of the SMN's and the next one goes down, after/during the second blood pact the BLM is casting -ga to add to the damage, and eventually the BLM ends the battle with a drain from the last Mammet.

We opened the battle with yagudo drinks and used hi-ether after each blood pact, the avatars tanked the battle with the PLD and the only death was Flirri and I because near the end, when the avatars returned to us (because the original one was killed) one of the mammets used "Sonic Blade" for about 300-400 dmg to everyone. At some point in the battle one or 2 of them changed to BLM and was -ga'ing the avatars but didn't do too much damage, mostly because they kept casting thundaga. On average our blood pacts did 600 dmg to each.

Overall it was a fun and exciting fight and we beat the record by 4 whole minutes.
They said we couldn't do it.

I was 0/4 the other day. I actually had one guy in my party who was 0/15. Basically a lot of people wanted to do this with what I'd call cop-out strategies that you'd have to be as dumb as a brick on crack to lose with. Each time I tried this we had some pretty "unique" strategies. Just fyi, any job can be used effectively to clear this mission, it just needs to be in the right combination and have appropriate subs.

I don't recall my first two attempts that well. The last two failures I had were parties that I organized. The first of those was a pretty decent setup, we planned to use the aggro trick and built the party around that-- we did a good job, no one messed up really. We were just overpowered in the end.

The next run we had a good strategy planned out (which didn't quite work) We planned to use the aggro trick and the RR trick in conjunction. Explained simply, after we killed the first mammet, we all ran to the entrance of the BCNM. The PLD kite was then supposed to let himself die on the bridge (fyi, PLD/whm or /nin with Hipots can kite this just fine, ours did a great job). According to the aggro trick, the last two mammets should have left us alone, we'd RR him, rest to full, then take down the last two np. Unfortunately, our WHM -did- get aggro by the mammets, and rather than dying in the cave area so we could just all RR, some people left the BCNM >_< we had already used up several of our meds and our 2hours so we didn't really want to try again.

Finally, my most recent run. The party was SAM/nin (me), RNG/nin, NIN/war, NIN/war, SMN/whm, and WHM/???. Several people thought this wouldn't work (even a couple of the people in the party). We pretty well pwnt the hell outta this. No deaths (well, not counting Maijin Gakure [for fun, not neccessity]) and a pretty good time. Initially we had some trouble because I forgot to tell the party that the mammets had a move which turned damage into healing. This is something all your melee DDs should know, and they should turn away whenever this move is up.

Anyway, I initially wanted a RDM/nin instead of one of the NIN/wars, but our RDM DC'd, our intended NIN/war tank was too poor for my taste to be trusted as a tank (but had plenty of EVA gear) and one of the party members had a good NIN who wanted to join, so I put the other NIN on the RDM's kiting duty, and the new NIN was our tank. We spent plenty of time getting meds for this (though we had a severe shortage of Hi-ethers at the time in AH, so we only had about 6 between the WHM and SMN). All the non-mages had Hi-pots... med setup was pretty standard.

Anyway, on with the strat.

Of course we fully buffed and healed MP entering the BCNM. Everyone used RR because I knew for sure we could take this fight even with deaths as long as everyone died off the grass and didn't RR til everyone wiped and the mammets were clear.

The NIN (or whatever kite you use) used the aggro trick to kite two mammets on the grass while the WHM healed him (also healed the main party some as well, especially after the SMN 2hour when he had to rest MP for a bit [because we were short on meds >_<]). Our tank NIN voked the first mammet and we proceeded to fight him on the bridge. The key to this battle was killing the first mammet quickly, so the NIN spammed nukes, I led off with two WSs. At 3/4 HP, we hit it with 2hours (SMN has been healing up til this point). Barrage, Eagle Eye Shot, Astral Flow x3, and Meikyo Shisui. Unfortunately he used the healing move half-way through my 2hour, but died pretty quickly anyway. At this point everyone was still in pretty good shape so we went ahead and had the tank pull the next Mammet to the bridge. From here it was very straightforward. As long as the kite could manage not dying for the one mammet until we killed the second, we had one, even if we had to RR. We managed it fairly easily, then the kite and joined us for the last one. We didn't have any problem with this one, if we had used both Maijin Gakure at 1/3 HP we could have killed him even quicker.

Some general pointers for this fight: Don't skimp on meds, period. Buy them and use them in the fight. It's far cheaper to spend 50-100K and win than to sacrifice hours of work for nothing and still have to go on multiple attempts. This is not an easy BCNM unless you use a very cheap strategy (which some of us can't afford to do)

Everyone have RR in case you need to wipe, RR and finish, and don't die in the grass no matter what Remember that beating 2 mammets is much easier that beating 3, so RR and rest to full works well if you managed to take one down.

Designate someone to use Yellow Liquids in the main party. Obviously the kite can't use them as he's kiting two at once because that kills the aggro trick, but once he only has to kite one he can do whatever he needs to get hate including using liquid. Hand to hand is their initial job, so keep the first mammet locked in that from the beginning because they're pretty easy that way. Otherwise DRG didn't give us much trouble. The sword user wasn't too tough, and there was a particular one that would do something strange by pointing his hand at the target like he was shooting something out of his palm, and that one was a total ***** (whatever it was). Just pray you don't get any BLMs most of all XD

I recommend NIN sub for all melee DDs. At 40 cap nothing from WAR or THF is going to serve you half as well as not getting hit. If you can't do enough damage to get hate occassionally with NIN sub, you're probably pretty useless in this BCNM anyway.

That's all that comes to mind atm. It takes considerably more work to win w/o a cheapo strat like 3 NIN, 3 WHM, but it's very gratifying :P
this is not hard

My last try was last night. Our setup was:

Pld/War
Smn/Whm
Smn/Whm
Whm/Blm
Nin/War
Rng/Nin

Our plan was to have the Pld go in and get aggro from all three. I would cure him while the Nin pulled em off and the others killed em.

We did a practice run with no meds and two hrs and it went very very well. We were stoked to do our real run.

We go in, buff, we use reraise items, and our rng accidentally uses a WARP SCROLL instead of a RERAISE SCROLL. Two seconds later, HE'S BACK IN ????ING JEUNO. OMFG WTF!!!!!!!

EDIT: 1/18, /passes out for a long long time

I've been secretly doing Promathia Mission 2-5 late at night with someone not from my LS or Friend List. We've gone about 5 runs together. On the 3rd run, he got /befriend'd to my list. And on the 5th run, we won the mission on the 12th. The setup was much different than what we had on the other runs.

WAR/NIN - Partyoctopus (Friend)
WAR/NIN
RNG/NIN
SMN/WHM
WHM/BLM - Me
BLM/WHM

Everyone got a nice large amount of Hi-Potions, Hi-Ethers, Yag Drinks, Sole Sushi +1, and Muslims. SMN said popping Muslims is much faster and better than Hi-Ethers. Partyoctopus even bought a Super Ether just in case.

Partyoctopus and SMN kited the side mammets while the other WAR/NIN pulled the middle mammet between the tunnel and clearing. WAR, RNG, and BLM killed the first mammet on the dry run (no 2hours, no liquids). We were looking promising for our real run. On our real run, the WAR used Mighty Strikes at 55% health. When it wore, RNG used EES and pwnd the Mammet.

Partyoctopus' mammet was next. SMN was doing an excellent job kiting. I didn't pay attention to this mammet because everyone's HP was in the yellow, and I could Curaga and still not get hate. My guess is that Partyoctopus used his Mighty Strikes at 75% HP and BLM used Manafont to help me heal and maybe pull off a few element spells. We managed to defeat the 2nd mammet, so SMN came over and pulled in the last mammet.

We were pretty dead beat when the last mammet came over, and there was only one hope left, Astral Flow. It just turned Thundersday, so he summoned Ramuh and struck him with 2 Judgement Bolts, still alive. But to finish it off, RNG pulls off a Barrage and masacures the last Mammet. I never even used Benediction or the Super Ether. Partyoctopus and I were relieved and amazed that we finally finished the mission, broke the record, and had a good party.
Easy mission Broke record on Fairy server

have NIN/WAR 3 of them have a WAR/NIN BLM/WHM and a WHM/BLM. Have 2 NINs pull left and right and solo them in the big circle while debuffing and keeping them at DRG and using Hi-potions while the other 4 solo one in tunnel mages bring like 6 Hi-ethers and it is cake not even using 2hrs beat it down in 11mins and 53sec Too weak. There is the best Strategy u can have.
What a joke!

Ok, so I thought I would throw in my 2 gil on this laughably easy mission. So far I am 2-2 on it with the following pt setups:

NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN, RNG/NIN, RDM/NIN (me), RDM/NIN, WHM/SMN

and

NIN/WAR, SAM/NIN, DRG/BLM (don't ask), RDM/NIN (me), RDM/NIN, WHM/BLM

Both times our NIN d/c and we still managed under 20 minute kills for both. The strategy for us is as follows. The two RDM and the NIN all run up together, the NIN pulls with Jubaku and the two RDM claim the outside 2 with bind or gravity, whichever. And to the RDM who said they dont stick... might want to lvl up your enf magic a bit... Anyways, the 4 members pretty much just wailed the crap out of it while me and the other RDM kited, and the mobs DO build up a resistance to Bind and Gravity and they build it fast. I noticed, and I don't know why this worked, but if the 2 RDM kiting switch mobs the spells seem to land more often, which helped us both out. Other than that, this was an absolute joke, yellow liquids are nice to have but NOT needed, yag drinks are also nice to have for the mp regen but a good NIN keeps mp use at a bare minimum, and everyone else keeping utsu up wont require cures. My biggest suggestion would be a good 5 hi potions, anything less gets a lil hairy. If you have any questions, send Senjiow on Seraph a /tell on anyone in Reborn. And if your on or past this and want to clear CoP with us, ask for a pearl, our expected clear date is mid to late January. Till then.

oh and Cloud Hippogryphs do have true sight, but you have to be LOOKING AT THEM for them to see you, huh Matt.....

Red Mage Kiter

I'd like to dispel the myth that a Red Mage can kite this with bind and/or Gravity, because neither will land, ever. I don't know where this started or why some people insist that they can, but believe me when I say that they are lying. Even with Elemental Seal this just doesn't happen. However, I would like to share how we won this with a Red Mage who managed to kite.

Our setup was Ninja, Ninja, Ranger, White Mage, Summoner, Red Mage. We entered the battlefield, buffed up with various foods and spells, and began. One Ninja remained at the entrance (and when I say the entrance, I mean the spot where you "Run away" at) with myself (White Mage) and the Ranger. The other Ninja, Summoner, and Red Mage went to the edge of the main battlefield. We decided to make the "camp" further back because the Sumoner was having difficulty trying to find a spot to be far enough away so that when Carbuncle died, she could re-summon without getting hit. While the Summoner summoned Carbuncle (Carby Mitts will really shine here) the Red Mage, and this is key, casted Phalanx. We had tried to have the Red Mage kite earlier with Bind and Gravity, but it just didn't work, so we figured if we could somehow keep him alive until the first mob was down, we could continue, so if you use this strategy, make sure you cast Phalanx and go immeadiately. The Ninja pulled the middle one back to the party while the end ones were handled by the mages.

During the battle with the first Mamet that polearm weapon never seemed to show up. Instead, we used the yellow liquid when the sword sword came up since the Physical Barriers and AoE spells were hurting us pretty bad. The battle went smoothly until about 20 percent which is when our RDM finally died. Our Ranger at this point used Eagle Eye Shot and within another few seconds, the first Mamet died.

The second Mamet, by this time, had run up to the camp and was ripe for the picking. The battle took a little longer without the EES, but it still went smoothly. The SMN was doing fine keeping Hi-Potions going occasionally and having Yag drinks up. Eventually, the second one fell.

Finally, we met in the middle of the battlefield to kill the third Mamet. At this time the Summoner used Astral Flow and everything was smooth sailing.

Hoped this helped a few people out.

I've beaten this mission a long time ago using the strategy where a Nin would enter, aggro all three mammets, and kite around the arena, and have a healer cure him while the other 4 members fight a mammet at a camp set up at the entrance. But when i tried to help out a friend with this mission a week ago, using the exact same strategy, the Nin kiting the two mammets always lost hate, and the 2 mammets would come back to the four of us at the entrance. Has anyone else experienced this problem lately?
Complete, Twice.

I've now completed this on both Rensu, and Amai.

On Rensu, it was a while ago, but I believe the party setup was....

PLD/WAR (kite), NIN/WAR (tank), SAM/RNG (me[DD]), SMN/WHM (kite heal), WHM/BLM (DD heal), and I can't remember the 6th but I know it's pretty much a free DD slot.

Anyway, so the trick is...the PLD takes hate from all three at the beginning, and then begins running around kiting them...the NIN/WAR chooses one and vokes it and runs back into the cave that you enter the battlefield from.

Basically, the PLD/WAR just kited the mobs around while the SMN/WHM continued to heal him if he got hit. The circle is large, so kiting isn't incredibly hard to do. The whm, nin, (???), and me beat down on the first one, then pulled the second from the kiter, then the third and proceeded with destroying each.

The second setup (Last night) Was:
NIN/WAR (tank), RNG/NIN (me, kite), RDM/WHM (kite heal), WHM/BLM (DD heal), DRG/WAR (DD), BLM/WHM (DD)

Powder Boots are a Kiters friend, as they allow you to make the initial aggro without being hit from the very start. Since I was kiting this time, I noticed something that I don't know if it was chance, or something that was actually legitimate, but I noticed that when I kited counterclockwise, I got hit many many many times more than I did kiting clockwise. Anyway, around 25% HP left on the 2nd Epsilon, the RDM/WHM picked up aggro from resting in the middle >< Luckily, shadowbind and bind can easily be landed on these and we were able to hold it off long enough for the DDs to kill the one they were working on and take it. Also, when the mobs become BLM...if you manage to get them casting while they are at one side of the BC, the other side of the BC is far enough away to be out of range for the spell. Also, BLM form is a good time to recast Utsusemi if you can time it to finish casting after the -ga is cast.

Honestly, kiting as a taru was a pretty scary experience at times, and I think it is a better idea to have a stronger race do it, such as Galka or Elvaan.

Of utmost importance: THE KITE CANNOT ATTACK OR PROVOKE WHAT IS BEING KITED. Aggro does not always equal hate. While somebody has aggro but has not engaged a mob, somebody from outside (the SMN/WHM or RDM/WHM in my two setups) is able to heal them without the mob coming after them. Secondly, if the kite's healer is low on MP, they must rest FAR AWAY from the mobs being kited. Resting will cause hate, and the mobs will begin to attack the healer if they rest too close.

A second note: Yellow Liquids - use them to lock the Epsilons in DRG form. In DRG form, they attack slowest and if your tank is a nin, that's exactly what you need.

A third note: Mages, juices and ethers are your friends. My little Taru rng would have been destroyed last night if the RDM/WHM didn't pop a Yagudo Drink, and the first time I did this, the WHM used several ethers/hi-ethers.

Total tries between both characters was 5... 1/3 on Rensu, 1/2 on Amai. I think my LS was going to do this tomorrow night, so I might be going again as whm with Amai (gotta love that taru MP pool).

Honestly, this can be very hard if people don't cooperate. On my first two attempts as Rensu, there were some people in the group that kept complaining to the point that blacklisting was a temptation. However, if you work together, and if each player is able to do their job well, this is not as hard of a fight as many people make it seem.

Good luck~
