Follow Prishe to Cape Riverne on the Misareaux Coast. It is rumored a wyrm nests there...

Walkthrough

After speaking with Ulmia and returning to Tavnazian Safehold (Mission 2-4), "Ancient Vows" should now appear in your CoP mission log. In this mission, you will be traveling through Riverne - Site #A01, an area that is capped at level 40. Note that as of the September 2008 update, level appropriate gear is not required for level-capped areas. However, it may be recommended for optimum performance.

To begin, head to the Dilapidated Gate in (F-7) of Misareaux Coast to trigger a cut scene featuring the three infamous Tarutarus, Cherukiki, Makki-Cherukiki, Kukki-Cherukki. Once you are on the other side of the gate, you will see a "Spatial Displacement." Entering the displacement will warp you into Riverne - Site #A01.

To get through Riverne - Site #A01, you must go through four more spatial displacements until you finally reach the BC area. To get through the second and third displacements, you will need to trade a Dragon Scale, which is dropped by Firedrakes. They spawn in the area between the first and second displacement. You will need two Dragon Scales to get through the entire Riverne - Site #A01.

Once you enter from Misareaux Coast, the first spatial displacement is in (L-8). Once you enter this displacement you will be in the area where the Firedrakes spawn. After you have two Dragon Scales, trade one scale to the "Unstable Displacement" in (G-10) and you will be warped into the third area. This area has Atomic Clusters that aggro to sight and magic, so get invisible up and head to the displacement in (E-10) and trade the other Dragon Scale and enter the unstable displacement. This next area is filled with incredibly tough mobs that have true sight, so be careful. Just walk along to right edge to reach the last displacement.

Entering this displacement will warp you to an uncapped area of Monarch Linn where you can enter the Level 40 cap Boss BC area. This uncapped area is a good place to go over fighting strategy and make sure all macros are working properly. After entering the Battlefield, you will receive a cut scene. Now is a good time for the White Mage to cast Reraise. Defeating the three Mammet-19 Epsilons will end this mission.

The Mammet-19 Epsilons are capable of switching jobs during battle. Yellow Liquid, when used, will lock the targeted Mammet's job for around 30 seconds. The different jobs are identified by the weapon the mammet is wielding. The mammets' jobs and abilities are as follows: In any given form, they can use the move Tremorous Tread, which does AOE Damage and stun. It can be absorbed by shadows.

  • No weapon - The mammets' original form.
    • Transmogrification - While active, the mammet will absorb all physical damage dealt to it and convert it to HP.
  • Sword - Fast attack speed
    • Scission Thrust - Directional AOE attack
    • Sonic Blade - AOE Attack
    • Velocious Blade - Five hit single target attack
  • Staff - Slow attack speed, uses -ga elemental magic, has lower defense.
    • Mind Wall - While in effect, any damage dealt to the mammet by elemental magic spells will be absorbed and converted to HP.
    • Psychomancy - AOE Apsir type effect that drains 80+ MP from everyone in range.
  • Polearm - Hits hard but attack speed is rather slow.
    • Gravity Wheel - AOE Damage with Gravity effect.
    • Microquake - Single target damage
    • Percussive Foin - Direction AOE damage

The most common strategy is to have two of the mammets kited and to kill them off one at a time. Jobs that are good at kiting in this mission are:

  • RDM/NIN with good evasion gear
  • BST with jug pets
  • SMN with Carbuncle

Once you defeat all of the Mammet-19 Epsilons, there will be a cut scene after which you will be teleported to South Gustaberg.

Dominated It!

party setup: whm/smn
blm/whm
pld/war
nin/war
rng/nin
war/nin (me)

First of all, there is a HUGE TRICK to this.

We went in and buffed up as usuall. The whm, pld, and rng stayed back in the tunnel (they moved up towards the end of it, just no outside of it).

Me (war/nin), blm, and nin ran out to the 3 mobs. The nin voked one and all three aggroed him. I came up and voked a different one and dragged it back to the whm, pld, and rng.

The nin kited 2 of them around. The TRICK here is that the blm didn't do anything at first, becasue all 3 mobs aggroed the nin, then I took one away, the nin still had aggro from the other 2. The blm then planted his butt in the middle of that field and as the nin kited, the blm would throw cures at him. The blm recieved no aggro at all by doing this. So his cures with the nins utsusemi was money for kiting both mobs.

We basically decided if we could kill the first mob fast enough, then I could pull the 2nd and the nin and blm would have smooth sailing kiting the last one.

To do this, soon as we got the first mob down to about 3/4ths hp I hit mighty strikes and went to town, while the pld tanked and the rng did his thing and used bloodybolts. Soon as I had enough TP I hit raging axe, then right after this I used an icarus wing and hit raging axe again. BLAM! that mob was toast.

So then I ran out and grabbed the unclaimed mammet and brought this one back. This took some heat of the kiter and his partner, and again pld, rng, and myself went to town. This time the rng was spamming ws's, and again I would use raging whenever I had tp. This mob took a lil longer to bring down, due to not having icarus wing or 2 hour, but it was straight.

He went down and we called the nin to bring it in and him and blm strolled in. At this point the nin d/c'd :( but by now 5 on 1 of them things was a joke. We even tried to stall on the kill for a while to get the nin back, but it took too long and we killed it.

Pretty easy, once we figured out that curing wouldn't draw aggro.

Things to remember:

-Have a healer help the kiter; he wont get aggro.
-I would assume this works best with a nin kiter
-You could replace the blm with any healer, but the blm came in handy with nukes at the end
-Bring the first one down asap
-Anyone with xbows, use bloddybolts, those things are godly for this fight

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. we each brought like 6-10 xpotions and honestly with this strategy, none of us used any.. I think the pld may have used 1 if that.

party setup was:

thf/nin (all evasion items + strider boots)
nin/war
drk/war
rng/nin
rdm/blm
whm/blm

after having some conversation with LS friend who already did this mission, I decied to go there as thf/nin with evasion equips and strider boots..

battle plan was very simple.. run run run..
I jumped in and get agro from all 3, then ninja voke 1 and pull back near zone.. I asked them not to heal me so i can keep agro off other 2 mobs..
It worked great.. I got hit by ga spells but that was it, didn't get any single hit for whole fight..

After wiping on this like 19 times, I listened to a member of my Linkshell and went with this party make-up: 3 x Nin / 3 x Whm

While it took 14 minutes to beat, it was the easiest way I've found to beat it. It wasn't even close. We didn't use a single potion, a single ether. Each tank had 3 yellow liquids to lock them into the drg form, and slowly whittled them away.

While this is the most time consuming way to beating this BCNM that I know of, it was BY FAR the easiest. Our whms starting nuking about half way through because they were bored and barefly using their MP.

You could easily replace the 3 whms with blm/smn/rdm though, and with blm you would prolly kill faster.

Hope this helps!

I did this for the first time last night ... and used this strategy.

THIS IS SOOO EASY IF YOU USE THIS STRATEGY!

We went in with the following setup though (more effective):

WAR/NIN + BLM/WHM = NM1

NIN/WAR + WHM/BLM = NM2

NIN/WAR + WHM/BLM = NM3

The key is for the 3 tanks to spread out the NM's, leaving all 3 mages dead in the middle. Thus, the 2 WHM's can cure all 3 tanks. This allows the WAR/NIN and BLM/WHM to take out there NM very quickly. WAR/NIN 2 hours as soon as he locks the NM in DRG form. BLM/WHM nukes away and uses his 2 hour - if out of MP before the NM is dead. After first NM is dead = game over. Congratulations!

I'd suggest the following items (JUST TO BE SAFE):

NIN/WAR - load up on evasion gear and eat a Jack-o-Latern, 3 yellow liquids, 4+ Hi-Pots, couple echo's (just in case).

WAR/NIN - eat sushi, 3 yellow liquids, 5+ Hi-Pots, couple echo's

WHM/BLM - eat MP food, 4+ Hi-Ethers, couple echo's, 2+ Yagudo Drinks

BLM/WHM - Melon Pie +1, 5+ Hi-Ethers, couple echo's, 2+ Yagudo Drinks

I promise you - that if you go in with the above PT setup and supplies ... it's insanely easy fight - and you won't use all your supplies, nor will you ever get in the red HP or low MP (except for the BLM/WHM - nuke away).

Too easy!

THANKS Buffylvr for the strategy!!!

This mission is not a push over. One mess up and you could be facing an entire party wipe. I'm 1/6 on this baby... spent nearly 200k on it and lost 5k exp.

Our PT set up for the first two attemps were PLD/WAR (me), NIN/WAR, RDM/BLM, WHM/BLM, RNG/NIN, SAM/WAR

We had the NIN and the RDM kite the two mobs on the side while I tanked the middle. Tanking these things are a real pain in the ***, they spam WSes that can stun you for what might seem an eternity... and hate is REALLY odd in this fight so being inactive even for a few seconds could mean losing hate altogether. The first time we lost because NIN/WAR was low on HP and the WHM tossed her a Cure II. After a while, NIN/WAR lost hate and it came straight for the WHM and all hell broke loose and we wiped. The WHM had RR so we raised after we were dumped to do it again.

Second time NIN/WAR had a better grasp at hate, but still lost her mob a few times and we had a few close calls. I spammed a lot of items on this one and it was what let us survive to the death of the second one. We then all wiped and waited till the third mob went back to the center and the WHM RRed again and raised us all up again. Once weakness wore off we fought it and we were LITERALLY TWO HITS away from killing it... and then we were booted from the arena because time ran out. We were so pissed about that. We had to call it a night because we had no more items and two hours were gone.

Our next few attempts afterwards didn't work out too well either until finally we managed to win using a strategy that's similar to one of the posts below. The PT set up was PLD/WAR, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, WHM/BLM, RDM/WHM, DRG/NIN

The DRG/NIN was a pick up who was waiting at the uncapped area, apparently his party attempted and failed and they all left and he stayed behind hoping for a pick up I guess. Well he got lucky because after failing a few more times, the SAM/WAR got fed up and left and we picked him up. He told us of the strategy and we decided to give it a go. We were all low on supplies and decided to wait for 2hrs to cool down before going again. I was the only one who had a yellow liquid when we entered.

Basically, the DRG/NIN went to the center of the arena and sight aggro'ed the rest of the mob but did not engage so only he had hate and not the rest of the party. He began running laps around the arena while the WHM/BLM stood in the center and healed accordingly. It wss funny but the WHM never caught hate despite how he spammed Cures on the DRG a few times. The rest of the PT stayed in the back of the cave and I went and pulled one of the mobs off of the DRG. The melee went crazy, I went crazy, the first mob was dead and I popped a few ethers and went and pulled the second mob and everyone goes crazy again and the second mob is dead. We then run up and take out the third mob and we're all cheering after the difficulty we've had with this damn mission.

The decision to use a DRG/NIN to kite by the way, was simply because we wanted the RNG/NINs to kill the first mob nice and fast. I'm pretty certain a WAR/NIN or a RDM/NIN or even a PLD/NIN would have filled the spot better, but it was quite possible for us to manage with a DRG/NIN kiter only because the WHM was well stocked with ethers and items. This WHM we had was incredible, he went in with TWENTY hi-ethers! o.o

Aww, you're too kind! You were da bomb when it came to tanking, too, you know! I'd trust you with my life any day! Here's to future PMs together! <3

Props, Brynhilde, for doing such a wonderful job at describing all of the painful, ugly, unfortunate, gory details of our exploits, and just how quickly everything can go wrong, haha. Oh, and just how evil those time limits can be. "OMG! Sweet! Great job guys! You all rock! ...wait, wtf? Why are we back in Monarch Linn?" "Somewhere a GM is watching." Good times, haha.

For those of you who want to know even MORE about how we finally won, I'll add on to what Brinhilde said above. Let it first be noted that we did attempt quite a few strategies before deciding that one was the ONLY way to go, and that people who won with anything else were simply lucky as hell. Now with that said, here's what's in our opinion the only way to do this mission:

First, the basic idea (which may sound totally crazy at first, but I promise will make more sense if you bare with me through the entire post): A single kiter kites all three mobs (though it becomes two almost right away). A single mage (preferrably a white mage for Benediction at the end) stays with the kiter and devotes their full attention to curing only the kiter. A single tank pulls one mob off of the kiter at a time, brings it into the tunnel in order to avoid AOEs from the other mobs, and tanks it. A second mage (preferrably a red mage for more enfeeble magic) stays with the tank and cures him/her while enfeebling the tanked mob if it is needed. Finally, there are two damage dealers who stay in the tunnel and go to town on whatever the tank pulls their way. Damage dealers should use their two-hours on the first mob that is pulled to them, in order to kill it the fastest and lighten the kiter's load as soon as possible. When the third mob is pulled into the tunnel, the kiter can follow and finally touch one of the mobs that's been chasing them around for so long, and the kiter's mage can go assist in keeping the party cured, as by this time the AOEs will have worn everyone down significantly.

Second, how it works: As Brynhilde stated above, hate in this fight is really funky. The little trick that really brings this strategy into the spotlight is that if the kiter only SIGHT aggros these mobs - not attacks, provokes, casts a spell on, or ANYTHING else, but rather only walks up close enough to the mobs to get them to start chasing him/her - then believe it or not, hate will be practically cemented onto the kiter by all three mobs as long as the kiter never touches them in any way. The only way to get any hate off of the kiter will be to do a direct pull off of them, one mob at a time.

Third, what this means: After the tank pulls a mob off of the kiter, the mobs that are still being kited will remain completely focused on the kiter no matter what happens to the mob that the tank pulled. When the mage who is assigned to the kiter cures the kiter, it will bring ZERO hate upon the mage, so the mage can spam as many cures as they want without having to worry about drawing hate to themself.

Finally, what not to do: The second that ANYTHING is done to a mob that's being kited - aside from when the tank pulls a mob into the tunnel - that mob will be free to bounce it's hate around your party as it sees fit. Basically, just don't let ANYONE do ANYTHING to a mob until the tank pulls it to the tunnel. (To the mage that is assigned to the kiter: It may be tempting to silence one of the kiter's mobs when it turns to black mage form, but casting silence will count as you pulling the mob off of the kiter, and you will promptly die. All that you can do is cure, cure, cure, give the kiter buffs like regen, and pop a hi-ether whenever you have a second to spare.)

A special note about items for the kiter's mage: I was the white mage who was assigned to our kiter, and as Brynhilde said above, I went into Riverne with 20 hi-ethers, not to mention 10 yagudo drinks, and 3 orange kuchens for our last 3 runs. A kuchen (+13% MP) brought my max MP up to 697. By the time the winning round came up (the third round), I still had 14 hi-ethers, 2 yagudo drinks, and 1 last kuchen. I popped the kuchen, and rested to my full 697 MP after I finished buffing the party. When the battle was won... I was empty handed with only 21 MP left, and yes, I even used Benediction during the last mob. I used all 14 hi-ethers, both yagudo drinks, and the kuchen in one battle. If I'm not mistaken, that brings my total MP useage to 1,616 MP during that one winning round. My point: White mages involved with this strategy - even though it works VERY well - take as many hi-ethers (or better!) as you can possibly carry or afford. You WILL need them all!

Just wanna say that thf can tank/kite these very well. We did 3 runs last night. Party was
PLD/WAR
MNK/WAR
WHM/BLM
BLM/WHM
RDM/NIN
THF/NIN <me>

First run I used a Jack-o-lantern. Went and used blind bolts to pull the one I was kiting. I took a total of 2 physical hits the whole time I was kiting. However, RDM went down fast and his came after me also. It changed to blm on me and -ga'd me till I died. Rest of party goes down shortly thereafter. Also popped a Persikos during fight just to keep hp up, and kept switching from blind bolts to bloody bolts as the situation called for.

Kinda the same thing second run, except I lost hate of mine when PLD threw a Cure II on me, and it took me forever to get it back. PLD is sitting at 61 hp when I finally get hate back, but it used AOE before I could get it far enough away, and PLD goes down. Mammet then changes to BLM on me and proceeds to -ga me to death, again. I used a Navarin in this fight, left over from levelling NIN several months ago.

Last run we were low on supplies, but we thought what the hell, who cares? We were just having too much fun trying to find something that would work. At this point I have no food left, so PLD gives me a taco. Proceeded to solo mine with blinds/bloodies, think I threw a couple of venoms in as well. Not much problem with hate this time except for when WHM pulled it from one time (easily gotten back). I managed to get it down to 3/4 health solo. Main group kills the first, but whm dies in the process and reraises during fight. At this point the RDM's Mammet comes after me (o.O) and, you guessed it, -ga's me to death yet again. What's really messed up is that I had just used PD b/c the WAR type was starting to hurt me a little, and I needed to bloody back some health and get shadows back up (evasion only from cap and +22 from gear, so he was hitting me a little more often).

All in all, we lost all 3 times, but we had so much fun that we formed a new LS just to do the CoP Missions. We're gonna head back again soon and try again, changing things up a little and coming with more supplies. I could have probably taken on even a blm if I had brought a bunch of Hi-potions, but I was running very low on funds when we decided to do this mission.

Personally, I think THF/NIN would be the best for kiting these. Highest evasion rating, gear that boosts it even higher, 2 Evasion Bonuses, evasion food and status bolts make it almost impossible for the Mammets to hit us. Only problem is BLM types, but I think Hi-potions could easily overcome that. If SE would give us something like Silence bolts, we would be unstoppable; but, I guess that's why we don't have them.

From the sounds of it, you didnt utilize the Yellow Liquids. Those little boys lock the mobs into the job they're currently in. I haven't tried this BC yet, but next time out, I would definately bring them along and lock em in a melee form.

After wiping once and running out of time once, me and some of my LS mates have beaten this fight. We not only won, but broke the record for this BCNM on Bismarck ^^. Party setup was as follows:

MNK/WAR
RNG/NIN (me)
RNG/NIN
RDM/WHM
WHM/BLM
THF/NIN

So our plan was this. RDM and THF each kite one mob while MNK and RNGs blow the first to hell and WHM heals us. So the three of us killing the first mammet all 2hr off the bat (I miss me EES ; ; with +52 RACC and Sharpshoot on), barrage, weapon skill. It died pretty quick. Originally we were going to run to entrance and wipe after first was dead to reraise and heal to full, but we were still in good shape, so we engaged the RDM's mob. This one took us a while to beat down, and the other RNG died in the process, reraised, and then got hit by an AOE before he even finished standing up ; ;. Down to 5. We took the second one out shortly after and moved on to the third. By now, the MNK was out hi-pots and mp was running short. WHM used benidiction, but the MNK died as it was getting cast. We took down the last one a minute or two later, before it could kill the WHM. A few deaths, but all-in-all, when very smoothly.

We had tons of hi-pots, hi-ethers, reraise scrolls, etc. Make sure you go into this battle prepared. Good teamwork and proper equipment/items are more important here than having any specific party setup, IMO. Good luck to everyone who still needs this, and congrats to the members of Disposable Heroes who got this done ^^.

Damn you Annihilator beat me to it though not surpise I can't get web access that often. Yeah this fight was fun and rather intense... I am starting to like the PM its not about just getting a bunch of certian jobs and blow them missions away but actually need players with real skill in their job. Yes I was the drg/whm that went. The system basicly I suppose would work in a simpler form as 1 pld 1 whm and 4 DD or 1 pld 2whm and 3 DD would work. What you decide to fill with it with is up to you. I want to finish these missions on drg/whm. Lets go Annihilator

fun fight, finally won this after 3 tries

PLD/WAR (me, Galka)
RNG/NIN x3
WHM/BLM
DRG/WHM

yes, a DRG.

PLD goes in, sight aggros all mobs but does not engage. Runs all the way back to the spawn point while a RNG hits one mob and takes it to the center. Make sure the PLD is out of sight of the third mammet when the melees kill him, or the other two will aggro the damage. WHM sticks with PLD while PLD tanks both mammets. RNG's 2h and barrage on the third mammet while DRG uses cures, curaga's and healing breaths to keep the RNGs alive. First mammet dies.

Rng pulls off the second one, PLD engages the third one and holds it down. Clear sailing from here. Just make sure the PLD lives during the first mob. WAR form and BLM form at the same time = ouch.

And yes, they can skill chain. They popped a Scission skillchain on my *** after they both used their special attacks >.<.

Total medicines for PLD: about 15 hi potions, 1 pamama au lait, 2 yag drinks.

Ok my LS might be doing this sometime in the near future and I'd like to know something. Being the SMN of the pt I'd like to know something about kiting. I know I will sound like a noob but I've never really been asked to kite for a fight. I'm currently a 38SMN and plan on lvling it to 40 for this fight. Can anyone give me some advise as to kiting with my avatars. Btw, I have Carby Mitts if that helps any.

Just did this today. When we ened up using our potions, ethers, and 2 hours on the first fight and dieing. At this point we figured that after coming all that way we didn't want to leave empty handed, so basically we used the following strategy to win without items or two hours.

Party setup was:

WHM/BLM
BLM/WHM
NIN/WAR
RDM/NIN
PLD/WAR
MNK/WAR

First thing we did was have WHM (me) cast reraise, buff, then had RDM, PLD, and NIN pull. PLD took center while RDM and NIN kited the other two. PLD pulled the mob into the cave and those not kiting went to work on it. The second we were able to take it down we called both the kiters in and died as fast as we possibly could. The reason for this is we weren't able to take out the second one, so we didn't want to waste time on it, preferring to start again with two mobs and full health/magic.

Once the mobs returned to the center of the island, WHM reraised, raised RDM, then both raised everyone. After resting to full, NIN tanked one with PLD backup while RDM continued to kite the other mob. It's important to note that NIN tanked the mob in the cave. If you tank in the middle, AOE attacks of the mobs can cause some trouble.

Once 2nd mob fell, we focused on the last one. It wasn't pretty or fast (clear time 27:15), but it is a way to get past the mission if your first run is a wipe and you have no potions, ethers, or two hours to use for the fight.

Note: Through a few failed attempts, we were able to have some yellow liquids for this battle, which MNK portioned out on the mob we were attacking.

Here is the setup

Monk/war
Whm/blm
rng/nin
nin/war
smn/whm
rdm/nin

we killed the fire drakes and got Giant scale in about 15 minutes. We went to the bc and we really didn't discuss a plan we read the site and figured we aren't going to be able to do it in the manner most of previous posters stated. All of us being new to this battle we didn't know what to expect. We went in the first time and didn't lock any of jobs or use any of our items and we got waterga and firaga to death. We called that our trial because no one used items. I had reraise on raised the team and we got ready. Second trial we discussed what weapons to avoid and to lock in the corny jobs like drg, nin, thf. We had the rdm kite one, and smn fight another, the whm<me> was between the kiters on the grass and the fight with the first epsilon. which was closer to the entrance. After the first fell we mobbed the next one out he switched jobs but we killed him. Third was funny because he switched jobs and had this technique that gave him life if physical melee hit him, we had to wait for about 15 to 20 seconds for that to go away. The monk turned his back while nin used his ninjustu magic and rdm casted as well. I used all my items, I even had time to rest for mp because he kept using that technique for life gaining. We could of had it beat in about 9 minutes but that technique slows you down for our set up. Needless to say we beat it second time in 12 or 13, which we call our first because we didn't know what to expect. We are probably going to take this team as far a possible.

RANT to phoenix: To those who didn't join my party because of certain jobs on my team and now want my help on it. just going to say ha and leave it at that. People didn't want to join because I didn't have two rdm and two smn. I could say more but no thanks just send me a tell if you need any more advice.

Here was the setup;

PLD/WAR
MNK/WAR
RDM/NIN
RDM/NIN
WHM
SMN (DD)

Getting there was interesting. Only death we had was in Misereaux Coast (WHM was unsure what Bugagrds aggro too). Got our first scale from the first Firedrake we fought, got the second from the last Firedrake before the portal. FYI, DONT PUT RE RAISE UP WHILE FARMIONG FOR SCALES. Firedrakes have a "dispell" AoE that strips you of all your buffs.

Went into the BC, buffed, and went to work. PLD voked middle, each RDM kited one of the other two. We fought the first in the tunnel. After Astral Flow hit, I hundred fisted. When Hundred fists wore, I had hate. Wasn't too hard for PLD to get hate back cause the blink band I was wearing took awhile to cast. Locked it in DRG form as much as possible.

After first one dropped, moved onto the 2nd. One of the RDMs DC'd during the 2nd fight. Honestly, I think we still would have won had he not re connected.

Things to know. AoE's gave me 2 status effect. 1 being stun, the other being gravity. The blink band would take care of one of em. Honestly though, I don't think the blink band was needed. I could have spent that 30k on more Hi-Potions and would have been fine.

A little snafu when we opened up a skillchain and he hit transmorg right before my ws macro went off. Impaction skillchain that he absorbed. However, we were on the final mammet who had full hp at the time anyhow, so just a minor annoyance.

PLD really didn't have a hard time keeping hate at all. Also didn't have much trouble tanking the warrior form. I can understand why a NIN would; it attacks too fast to keep up shadows.

Killed it in about 20 mins.

I was quite impressed with how smoothl;y it went considering we didn't go in as the "ideal" set up. I was told that,

A) It'd be impossible for me to go as monk without a NIN sub.

B) A PLD couldn't tank it.

Both proven wrong.

As an aside, Prishe is the coolest NPC I've "met" in this game. I little foul mothed Elvaan girl= Impossible to gauge. And I'll take any and ALL CS' with Bahamut I can get.

Thanks to Condara for helping us get there and farm. Lubu for waiting at the BC for us, kiting, dcing, and coming back for the win! Jaye for the EXCELLENT kiting job. Our smn (silver***???) who was a good DD, great navigator, and keeper of Ifrit whom was my skillchain partner. Thank you Odinohmege for your wonderful healing. Also thank Jaraxe for his excellent tanking skills.

Onto 3-1 now!!!

Goddamn, this mission pisses me off so much.

Pt setup:
SMN/WHM
SMN/WHM
SMN/WHM
WHM/BLM(me)
RNG/NIN
PLD/WAR

Looks like a great setup, right? Well it should have been, if we had known what exactly we were getting into.
It was a bit tough getting to the BC, first a hippogryph aggroed and then a thunder elemental decided to join the party. Forunately, we were able to reach a safe spot before dying, and I reraised.
After this incident, we managed to go through without any problems, until we reached the second unstable displacement. One of the SMNs got attacked by another hippogryph, but was able to distract it with a Light Elemental. Sadly everyone panicked, resulting in two other hippogryphs aggroing. Myself and the tank were able to get through the displacement; we went back after it was safe and I raised everyone. After this we zoned into Monarch Linn.

This is where it totally went downhill. We discussed the strat to a certain extent, but it was basically "nuke with astral flow." The PLD ran in and grabbed hate with invincible, and the SMNs ran in to do astral flow. Unfortunately, we did not know about the stun AoE. This was horrible, they spammed it twice in a row, knocking out the initial three astral flows. Then invincible ran out, and the PLD was taking some damage.
The mammets took this oppurtunity to change to black mage and spam their AoEs. Curaga II put everyone back to white HP, but put a hefty chunk of hate on me.
Today, the servers were having some severe lag problems. This, coupled with 6 people and 3 mammets running around, created some extreme lag. Because of this, I was unable to get off a benediction that most definetly would have saved myself, the party, and the mission. I died quickly, with all three mammets wailing on me.
Then, I remembered reraise. I could still save the party! I popped up, then saw these words appear on my screen:

The Mammet-19 Epsilon starts casting Waterga.

Nooooooooo! And so I suffered another horrible death. Another firaga soon after obliterated the remaining smns, whose astral flows (which were in midcast) would have defeated those freakin mammets.

Long story short, I want to cry. ;.;
Hopefully I can recreate that party again someday...

P.S. Remember to macro Benediction, it will save your lives -,-

Anyone has any idea as to approximately how much HP they have? Thanks.

And can a blm/nin and rng/nin take one out if they out all out(2 hours, WS, barrage, and what not), before the Mammet take the nin and blm out?

i hate this mission
# May 17 2005 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent
all i can say is IF they turn into blm, either you kill the one you're kiling fast, the entire pt will get wiped out, silence? trust me, we did try that, and did they land? no. if you get wiped after you kill one, you have the chance to win.
about kiting, rdm/nin can kite and do kite, but dont rely too much on bind and gravity (as they hardly land on these). i'm a nin/war i kite this really well, well at least until they turn to blm and toast me like a buttered bread. as for nin kiter, pole arm = dont kite just tank like normal exp, so with hth, land kurayami ichi, if your ninjutsu capped, it will land, and blind it like hell. when it use sword... run, run and hope it change job fast and scream like a little girl to the RNG to shadowbind it, you may try to cast utsu ni, if you can, you'll be alive a little bit longer, now the problem is when it turn to blm.. shadow striped with ga, major dmg, and cant run from the spell (doesnt matter if you're 10000 miles from it, spell will land) hence blm = every1 goes gung ho on the main target and hope it die be4 blm toast you then reraise and whack the remaining 2. and if ppl said silence will make blm epilson like pie, maybe they got lucky it land, but what i know from my runs is, it mostly resisted, hence waste of mp to silence those. one more thing for nins which will ensure victory is... get a stack of shuriken (juji or the one that does 41 dmg i forget the name) if you tank the main target, you just spam this and ignore katana attacks, your dmg will catch up with rng, and keep hate really well with this (with every1 beside kiters pounding on main target too, it will be a fast kill).

So to sum those up is kill main target fast if it turn to blm, if not stay calm and bring it down to 3/4 or half life be4 unleashing 2 hr on it otherwise smn or rng or mnk will get hate and.. litteraly die soon (if you have pld its a different story).
and for nin, hi potions to survive blm, kurayami ichi to laugh at melle jobs (except sword), and shurikens to finish them off.

good luck, i hate this mission, i hate these epilsons, curse them for breathing

This may not rate as an "unconventional" setup, but it is definitely different from all mentioned here.

SMN/WHM
SMN/WHM
BLM/WHM (me)
WHM/BLM
RNG/NIN
PLD/WAR

Long story short, we demolished this fight and beat the crap out of the record time. Record before was 14 minutes. We did it in 6 minutes flat.
Our strategy was exceeding simple. PLD went in and gained all attention (flash+voke+banish or whatever). He pulled them back to us. Hits invincible. Everyone 2hrs. BLM spams -ga.

I did a total of 1.5k damage to each, and the summoners did a little more each with their astral flow. PLD used a couple x-potions. We completely ignored anything to do with jobs of the mammets or kiting. Just blow everything to hell.
Worked like a charm ;)

I can confirm that this works, because I was the paladin in the group. Since damaging them would cause the tank to lose hate, it was imperative that I hit Invincible. I first ran into the boss room, casted Banish on the first one (since this spell takes the longest to cast), then Flash on the second one, and Provoke on the third. I dragged all three back into the tunnel and hit Invincible. Invincible allowed me to maintain hate while the summoners and the black mage nuked the crap out of the Mammets. By the time the second row of Astral Flows were finished, so were the Mammets. We figured we could nuke first, ask questions later.

Make sure that the paladin brings some healing potions. With three Mammets attacking me, it was very difficult, if not impossible to throw a cure on myself. The white mage did help me out, but it's difficult to really stay alive with three Mammets on you.
Some helpful info.

Should be of note that a RDM can tie one of the Mammets up for a long time with little or no outside assistance using Bind.

A Ninja can hold his own against one for a long time with a couple of Au Laits and the occasional cure 3 from a WHM. The BLM version casts lots of level 1 -ga's and the WAR (one with the sword) attacks too fast to recast Utsusemi: Ni, so it might be wise to make sure the NIN has some Yellow Liquids to lock it on anything else, cause the rest are all cake.

We had a RDM kite #1, while the NIN solo'd #2 and everyone else attacked #3. When #3 died, #2 was half dead. Nin trained it to the rest, and they took over while the Nin went and duo'd #1 with the RDM.

We did this on Friday on Shiva Server. We got the record time 12min and something, and before it we Bad Seed ENM with same party. PT make up was: 2NIN/war, Pld, Rng, Sam, & Whm/blm. The ninjas had 1xPersikos Aulait & 5xhiPotions, 2-3 Yellow liquids. The pld have 3 Yag drinks and whm had MP food and Yag Drinks about 3xHiEhters. The 2 nin's went 1 vs 1 with the 2 Mammets, while Pld,Rng,Sam &Whm killed first one. The only time the nin kited was when it switched to war (Sword in hand). Pretty basic we just did our jobs with foods of course. By the time the 1st Mammet went down 2nd was about 50-60%HP, when the pt converged on the 3rd it was 20-25%HP.
Hope this helps

My LS and I won this first try last night with the following set-up:

RDM/WHM
WHM/BLM
NIN/WAR
PLD/WAR
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN

We went in, NIN voked the one on the left, PLD voked middle, RNG's took right. What we did from then on out is pretty simple. I (RDM/WHM) stayed close to the PLD and NIN, just keeping them both alive, while the WHM stayed with the RNG's as they completed *pounded* on the right guy. Barrage, Weapon Skill, 2 hour. It took him down to about a quarter life, and they took him out shortly after. The other 2 guys were spamming AOE Stun that did damage (which completely pissed me off >:O) and the WHM ended up dying... Reraising, throwing out a Curaga II and then dying again, lol. RNG's hopped on with the NIN (since he was having the most trouble) while the PLD tried to just keep the other one busy. There was a BUNCH of close calls, and if you try this tactic... make sure your RDM and WHM keep Stoneskin up AT ALL TIMES. Convert was ABSOLUTELY neccessary in this case. I used a full bar of MP, a Pro-Ether (Something like +250 MP?) and plus had to Convert shortly after...

Oh, and we didn't even bother with the Yellow Liquid. We had it... but we didn't use it. **** was just too crazy to be watching for which jobs they were changing into.
how tough
# Apr 23 2005 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
If you were to gauge how tough each of the three mobs were what would you think? Like VT each or what? I just wanna have a basic idea of what im up against.
RE: how tough
# Apr 27 2005 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
Very tough at the minimum. It really can depend on what job they are. If they are wielding the sword, they are IT (because they deal massive dmg, and can easily interrupt casting). The polearm type, maybe Tough.

Hope that helps.

I have Zilart 4 but cannot do anything till 65+ and i have 58 job as the higest. Working with LS we got a kind of static going to do CoP. We farmed the dragon scales before hand... we got 4 scales, cause someone said "we need to come back here so lets get em now". After many days waiting we finially did this mission...
I crafted Apple Au laits for the Kiters and Yagudo potions for MP user's another LS crafted Many Hi-potions and some just bought the best food out there.
our PT set up was:
PLD/war x2, RNG/nin, War/nin, RDM/whm, WHM/blm

We went in with only 1 pt... no other groups... we got argo once by a dragon + hippo. at the same time ;p it was kinda funny... we started with dragon then hippo. no death no probs... some reason we had more of a problem fighting them when we were Scale hunting, but we where not the same jobs. That was the only argo so we made it to the BCNM arena. We zoned in to get the Cut Sceen then "RUN AWAY" (to leave arena) back to the zone. That way we can just zone in and start up. We talked battle plan, who does what and how.

Buffed up inside I tossed up Re-Raise + Stoneskin as extra. 1 PLD kites left Mob 2nd PLD kites right mob and the rest on the middle. PLD's did shield bash, voke, and Flash before inital kite.
War, Rng, Rdm where attacking the middle, I enfeb. the PLD's mobs with dia slow and paralyze (capped for event, paralyze stuck on one mob when elemental seal+ ). Silence stuck with no problem on the BLM type.

The 1st mob took awhile to go down, then we told the most hurt of the two PLD to come over wailed on it... NO prob.. went down very fast? very fast, beats me how.

The Last mob was a ****** ; low on Mp and everyone's Hp was 1/2. The mob was doining some BUFF where every attack would add to its HP, RNG had a call macros to disengage so ONE PLD 2hr during that I rested, RDM Nuked lvl 1 spells as best as MP allowed. Then everyone resumed attacking the mob but, +hp on attack was still there it gained like 200hp, I think i saw +30 hp a hit. Then the mob went BLM and -aga Big time. The RDM droped down to 1HP, I got up (resting) to save the day, landed silence, RNG was shouting 2hr; so I run up to PT, BOOM (WHM 2hr), full Hp for all. The 2nd PLD then 2hr's (yeah NO hate for me) then the MOB fell.

I think we kinda treated this like a Maat Fight on the FOOD part of it, Potions + refresh/regen drinks helped a lot.
----- Edit + added
*On the way to the BCNM there are BOMBS... we had a couple of Invis. Powders. The walk isnt long, but BOMBS as everyone should know argo magic and sight. BEWARE !!!
*One PLD wanted to solo one of the mob's (thought it would be better to fight then kite), but he soon started kiting and said it was easier that way.
*Each PLD had like 8 Hi-potions + 1 Yagudo potion, used em up quick, both PLD had No Mp when we pulled MOBs off of them.
*I, WHM, used 2 Apple Au Lait (AOE), 4/6 Yagudo Drinks and 2 cookies. I had Echo drops but didnt need them.
*The best part was some of the LS in the group said "WE will die. This is hard." Then I forget who said "I spent 30k on food we better win" LOL; They might have lost previous fights maybe because they didnt use Juice's. From what I saw was normally mission PT's act as a single then a group... We totally acted as a group and like we knew what we were doin and what to expect (even though i didnt), I just did my job.
*Ohhh and we beat the record 14min 3sec; BUT.... T_T ... there is a update 4/20 SMOKE OUT !!! lol Good luck to others on this mission, it is sooo FUN ^_^

Ok...I was with Shoger in our 2-5 run..we've done all CoP missions together so far. The setup was

PLD/WAR (me) in full lvl 40+1 gear
PLD/WAR in full kampf gear
WHM/BLM
RDM/BLM (not whm)
RNG/NIN
WAR/NIN

We did catch some aggro getting there but as long as you are careful..no problem. When you reach the 3rd area (after you use the first giant scale to open distortion) that is where the Atomic Clusters (bombs) are. You do NOT want to fight them, they aggro sight and magic. So everyone gets invis powder or spell right as you zone in and you ruuun like H3ll. The next distortion is to the right as you enter. Anyways..on to the NM fight....
This was our first try and we came prepared. Each PLD had 2 Yag Drinks, not just one. We each also had a Persikos au Lait to clarify that. The one tank had 8 Hi potions and I had 12 since I was kiting the one we were going to fight last. I also had 2 ethers. (edit...I also used a memento muffler repeatedly while kiting the 3rd NM, which is a VIT +7 enchantment, only costs 2k..worth getting for this fight! be aware that after you use the muffler there is a 3 or 4 second delay where u cant voke or cast) I used a shallops tropicale and other PLD used steamed crab. So that is why we were able to kite two pallys...about 40-50k worth of food for each kite lol. Anyways...war/nin main tanked and pulled middle mob to the stairs and as shoger said...rng, rdm, war/nin went to town on it. the whm stayed with that group. It was important that the kiting PLDs did not get any attention from mages so that the MP could be saved...we healed ourselves almost the entire battle. First mob went down and the other PLD took his over to the war/nin and then i had the whole grassy area to just run around and kite my mob. Having two PLD 2hr actually helped us because I could 2hr so the mages could rest once we had all used up all of our food and drinks then when the last NM went nuts...shoger could 2hr and other PLD went invincible to keep hate while we finished it off.

Just wanted to clarify the tanking strategy a bit for everyone so you knew how we were able to pull it off with 2 pld kites and not nins or war/nins. Very doable but I needed all 46k worth of food and drink to stay alive for the whole thing so be ready to spend some serious gil.

Good luck! Hope this helps as my first post ever ;p

edit****

We had 3 yellow liquids which were all given to the war/nin tank and he tossed them on mob when they were brought to him and were in the sam/drg form or the other one that wasnt the blm form.

You need 2 Scales for the Party... The Scales Opens two Gate ways ( forget name ) for your party. It might wear off I dont know. So make sure before you open the gate everyone is ready to enter, just to save the trouble.

The whole party needs only 2 scales total...I had both of ours. As you go through you must enter "Spacial Displacements" to go from area to area. The 3rd and 4th (I believe) are "Unstable Displacements". Every party member should target the displacement and then the person with Scales should trade one to the Unstable Displacement, which will then grow in size. Then everyone quickly goes through it.

Yeah! I finaly got it done!!!

PT setup:
PLD/WAR
WHM/SMN
BLM/WHM
SMN/WHM
RNG/NIN
THF/NIN (me)

Strategy: Me and SMN ( yeah I know might sound nuts) were the kiters. PLD tanked in tunnel and RND and BLM tries to kill him afap.

First try didnt go too well... I take right one, SMN takes left, RNG pulls middle. I kitet suprisingly well (with Eva+ equip and Jack-o-lantern of course). SMN got screwed bad by a WAR type Mammet, Mammet goes to PLD, PLD dies, all flee out of the battlefield.

2nd try, SMN got new tacktick tha worked pretty well, but we went in when WHM was at 1/3 mp so it didnt work well and we all fled again.

3rd try!!! SMN kites realy well, my designated Mammet almost never hit me, and main group kills 1st Mammet relatively quick. However, for some unknown reason, both Mammets decided to rush to main group at same time. Pulled one back and started kiting again. PLD DIES! Mammet aggros RNG and RNG DIES!!! Mammet aggros SMN but he was at a sliver of HP. I SAed and killed it. Last Mammet was still on me thou, but kept missing and missing! I pull out my bloody bolts and tanked the last one while draining hp. WHM raises RNG, RNG barraged on Mammet, Mammet dies, and we all poofed in SGust with a new title!!!

Tried this 3 times now >< 1st time with really no idea to expect went with pld whm rdm rng mnk brd figgured we would get it done np. Nope death fast lol so just called it good cause there was no way we were going to do this with this party we figured. 2nd was a lil more orginized with 2 rdm/nin kiters and a nin and rng whm blm kiters could land **** and took up most of the mp and rng<me> died fast used most of our 2 hours and so on but gave it another shot with the nin kiting one and me the fisrt and this went rather well really almost killed it with no 2 hours. So really all I can say is just bring 2 nin/war and have them tank 2 and just w/e you got tank the middle 2 rng a war a sam w/e would work fine just kill it fast. Usefll abbilities were EES nice damage 500+ <lv40> chainspell nuke nice damge also and consitant good for the first mob so I say ***** kiting em just have tanks to do it probly a pld with eithers or poitions could do it also on the side considering all you have to do is live long enuff. Anyway mana font also good to have sam 2hr <can't spell it> nice damage benedition also good twards the end if you can get it off the whm lol. Sleep doesn't work at all of any kind bolts rdm blm brd doesn't work don't waste your time trying. Kiting could work its just really hard for a rdm to kite cause gravity doesn't stick no matter what and bind is kinda dicy so really my sugestion would best be to go with 2 nin/war 2 rng/nin rdm/blm whm/w/e or blm/whm in place of the rdm and just have the nins tank 2 of em and the rng share hate really also would be crious if 2 smn/whm could just take the 2 long enuff or 2 pld could take the place of the nin's. (just have to keep yourself alive) Anyway I hope this helps anyone thats going to try this and if you need a rng or a pld on alexander give me a tell somtime.

just did this with my static with out a NIN or SMN on our first try. our party was

PLD/WAR
WHM/SMN
BLM/WHM
RDM/NIN
RNG/NIN
MNK/WAR

my plan was to have trow kite one as RDM/NIN and i would tank 2 as PLD. we did one trial run to see the lay out and how hard they hit, ect. we used no items or 2 hrs and we ate it fast. we reraised and went back in ready for the real deal. we all had MP and HP drinks as well as either, hi potions, and a few hyper potions. for trows part he had +53 evasion with gear. my part of the plan went like this. i would run in voke, flash, and yellow liquid one mob then change to the other and sentinal, shield bash and invinsible. while i was not taking dmg Char (MNK) Ana (BLM) and Midget (RNG) had to kill one fast, char and midget both 2hrd. we watched for Transmog (the move that makes them absorb physical or magic, and if it did we just changed to the other mob for a bit. the first went down fast enough. after that it was cake. trow only had one rough spot but ana 2hrd and healed him. these mobs are dark based too so good luck getting gravity to land. a few other things that helped us out a lot were keeping the mages as far from combat as possible the mobs have some nasty aoe that can take them out in a few hits. trow didn't come near us either just incase an aoe would hit him or us. we used yellow liquid and i would say it helped a bit mostly just to keep it in one job so you know what to expect.
