Battle Notes

To begin, trade 60 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Moon Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 60, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Fe'e, a Sea Monk type mob.

  • After taking a set amount of damage, a message will appear saying that "One of the sea creature's tentacles have been wounded." This can happen up to six times, with the final time producing the message, "All of the sea creature's tentacles have been wounded."

  • For each tentacle wounded, the number of melee attacks per round it performs decreases, yet the damage from each attack increases proportionally. After the last tentacle is wounded, the normal melee attacks will be replaced by an attack with the animation of Ink Jet. This attack has a knockback effect and is magic based.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, Fe'e must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

Note: These are just some of the strategies possible to successfully complete this BCNM.

Black Magex2, Red Mage Setup

One of the more commonplace strategies involves two Black Mage and one Red Mage using a Sleep and nuke method. Upon entering the battlefield and buffing up, the two Black Mages will time an Elemental Seal Burst with the Red Mage following up by sleeping Fe'e. As the Red Mage debuffs Fe'e with Paralyze, Gravity, and the like, the Black Mages time Freeze followed by the Red Mage sleeping it again. Repeating this pattern will result in Fe'e being defeated with little trouble.

Summonerx3 Setup

Another strategy involves three Summoner and the Carbuncle avatar. Upon entering and buffing up, the three summoners will call out Carbuncle and all assault Fe'e. As soon as they strike Fe'e to ensure they're within range, run up towards the avatars and use Meteorite and then, after the Meteorites hit, move down the tunnel towards the exit until you can no longer see Carbuncle's hp bar.

  • Because the repeated use of Meteorite will deplete your mp, it is recommended to bring two Yagudo Drinks per BCNM fight.

Making sure to keep Stoneskin and Blink up as much as possible, repeat Carbuncle assaults and Meteorites until Fe'e is defeated.

Paladin, Melee, Black Mage Setup

Upon entering the battlefield and buffing up, have the Paladin run in first and pull Fe'e towards one of the walls of room and position it so that the Paladin's back is against the wall. At this time, the Paladin and the melee will begin to attack it while the Black Mage helps cure the Paladin due to Fe'e's rapid melee attacks often causing the Paladin's spells to be interrupted. Once enough of the tentacles have been damaged so that the Paladin is able to cure himself without worrying about being interrupted, the Black Mage can focus more on debuffing and nuking Fe'e. If it is possible, it is recommended to form Distortion and/or Fragmentation skillchains so that the Black Mage can magic burst off them to maximize spell damage.

FE-E aka FE'E: War God from Samoan Oceanic Mythology - in the form of a giant octopus

FE-E lived mostly under the sea in a palace, but he also had a temple on Samoa surrounded by 20 pillars made from single stone blocks 13 feet high.

The islands of Samoa were first settled about 3,000 years ago, after a very gradual migration eastwards into the Pacific Ocean from people originating in South East Asia. The Samoans had a very rich culture and mythology, believing that their islands and they themselves were the creation of the god Tagaoloa. They also had a diverse pantheon of other gods, including Fe'e, the War-God. Samoan mythology depicts Fe'e as a huge octopus, living under the sea with his tentacles reaching to the far corners of the known world like a huge compass. Believed to cause thunderstorms by his very voice, the Samoan king's diviners would listen to thunder and discern if it was auspicious to go to war or not.

I just did this BC with set up PLD RDM RNG, It was too easy, though I did most of the kiting.

Basicly RDM grav, PLD kite, RNG just murder the kraken.

during the fight there will be messege saying something like "One of the tentacle hurt" after 8 of those, the kraken will only do TPmove, and it's significantly higher dmg than when he still have his tentacle.

with meat and a few archery merit I did constant 700 sidewinder and 600ish barrage. It was over in 6-8 min (time limit 15 min).

Just tried it the other night. Party set up was PLD/WAR x2, WHM/BLM. Now before you go on about the party setup being weakauce, let me finish.

As WHM I came with 2 yag drinks, icecap rolanberry and super ether. Both PLD's were using Tavnazian Taco's I believe, and they had 2 yag drinks as well. Fe'e came out swinging as per usual. Both Paladins had a chance to tank it. First PLD tanked for the first 25%. He wasn't doing so well, so I ES + Sleep'd it. It was slept, I took a second to heal them up, and gather up a little bit of MP.

Fe'e awoke, 2nd PLD flashed the mob to draw hate, he took less damage then first PLD. Between my cure's and the PLD's his HP never saw red. HP between both PLD's never dropped blow 50%. I bene'd both of the returning to both of them to full health. 2nd PLD Spirits Within for 500+, taking Fe'e down to 15%. Nether PLD 2hr'd. In the end we got booted because time ran out at 15%.

It was frustrating, because we were casually beating this mob down and would have won if not for the time limit.

Observations for this party setup. WHM, lots of meds. Anything to reduce the time needed to rest after initial buff.

Kclub Drop Rate
# Dec 27 2006 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
Here's a quote from PoL Website regarding the K Club:

"Due to the extreme popularity of the kraken club and trouble arising as a result of a large number of players attempting to acquire the item, the monster that previously dropped the club (Lord of Onzozo) will do so no longer. A new method of obtaining the item is currently under consideration and will be implemented shortly. There are no plans on changing the drop rate of the item in question. However, the development team would like to grant players more opportunities to obtain it."

I'm assuming they haven't changed the drop rate in the switch from NM to BCNM. So i'm going to guesstimate some people will be spending alot of BS's on this BCNM. lol

The NM has ~7500 HP.

He can use all sea monk TP moves, with ink jet being most common (cross attack can one hit hume melees).

He builds resistance to enfeebling magic. For rdms, after about 10 min stick rate becomes iffy.

He is weak to magic, and the spell drain. Day seems to have a large effect on his resist rates. Ice day can be bad, for example, as gravity can resist more.

Now for how to kill him:

Suggested setups:

Rdm/blm 1-3 blm/whm 1-3 (any combination of these jobs)

Meleeing him is possible, you'll want to blink tank, and have blindna.

To manaburn him don't use sleep/nuke, he build sleep resistance rather fast.

He has low resistance to gravity. Use this to your advantage. Enter, buff up, engage. Lead in with gravity from one mage and bind from another. Then start nuking. Basically play hate ping pong with tier II/III nukes. Rdm are ideal for this as you get to convert. Decently geared rdm should hit for ~250 thunder II. It will therefore take ~30 nukes to kill him. Drain is highly effective, chainspell drain can easily take off 2k hp. Save chaindrain for a bad run (he kills one of you with his cross-attack for example). I've sucessfully duo'd this with a death during the run.

RDM/BLM x2 can duo if one is taru, and you will need decent +int gear. Duoing will of course cut it a little close on time.

So there are rumors that some people are 0/60 or more for this BC. Though it seems odd that people could go to Jeuno and back to the bc in such little time to have gone through 60 runs already. Maybe I'm wrong :P

Anyway, I can't seem to find -anywhere- that says a Kraken Club -has- dropped. I'm sort of concerned they forgot to add it to the drop list. I realize the drop rate is absolutely retarded, but you'd think SOMEONE would have been lucky enough to get at least 1 thus far.

If anyone has any pics of one dropping in the BC, or has seen someone post about it, let us know :3

Edit: BLM can sleep this. So the BC could be done with any refresher+2 BLMs very easily.

I dunno how we did it
# Dec 20 2006 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
RDM/BLM, BLM/WHM, BRD/WHM
RDM refreshed BLM and myself
BLM nuked (derr) did Burst 2 or 3 times
BRD cast Elemental Threnody, Mages Ballad 2 and Learned Etude and the occasional Curaga
This dude is pretty easily enfeebed in the beginning, but as it pregresses it builds up a nasty resistance. Started with Burst, timed nukes with RDM and BLM while BRD played his jams. After Bind starts to be resisted we started using Sleep2. We finished with about 3 Mins left on the clock and it was our 1st win out of 3
**only got pearls too, and a crap load of Oxblood /cry
Another group that was there had NIN, BLm, WHM and did just fine. I'm leaning more to a NIN tank w/ BRD then mana-burn as a sure fire win. We'll see, i'll keep an open mind to this.

Did this today. 3/3 on wins, 0/3 on K.Club. Set up was BLM/WHMx2 and RDM/BLM.

We all Stoneskin/Blinked when we entered. Both BLM would cast Freeze. RDM would sleep in between nukes and resting. (Sleep/Nuke method) We hardly got hit except with TP moves which it uses when it wakes up but we were never in any danger of dieing from this NM. It takes 12 freezes to hit the ground. 6 from each BLM. Clear times with this set up were 13:30 first run. 10:20 and 10:16. No drop but oh well. We will try again tomorrow, it's a fun fight really. :)
Strategy

I went in today with this BLM/WHM x2 and RDM/BLM setup. We wiped on the first try, but not due to the strategy. 2/3 and a very sound plan. Stoneskin/Blink immediately. Both blm ran up and casted Freeze with Rdm (me) Sleep 2 immediately afterward. I Refresh myself and the others, and really didn't need to use much MP (never rested once). Not resting for the Rdm is good so you can always be ready to Sleep 2 the mob if it wakes up. Later on in the fight, there is a chance of resist and Sleep doesn't seem to stick as long. I had Elemental Seal/Sleep 2 on a macro just in case of an emergency. Also a good idea for both the Blm is to be ready to nail with Sleep 2. Post was right on, takes 12 Freezes to kill this guy, 6 each. When done right, we finished between 10 and 11 minutes, and were never in danger.
You don't need any food with this setup, unless it makes you feel warm inside. Just a couple blm that know how to cast Freeze at the same time, and a rdm with good enfeebling that sleeps it immediately afterward is all you need. Immediately is important. This guy has regen and AoE that it spams. But if slept quickly, never has time to regen itself. Great strategy ClarityMnk. When we followed the strategy, it was one of the easiest BCNM's I've done.

FYI, the initial wipe was caused by blm setting a freeze time way to far away and letting the mob wake back up (clock said :05 and he said Freeze at :20). Caused us massive damage on the first try within the first couple minutes. I converted to save myself from dying, but it left me with almost no MP. Still recovered and got it down to 10% before time ran out. If you're ready to cast, set a time quickly or just cast together. There are only 2 of you, so it shouldn't be that hard. If it is, how did you level a blm to 60?

On a side note, the drops sucked. We got Tele-rings, Ajari Bead Necklaces, and some pearls, oxblood, black pearls, yellow rock, etc. To compound this, everybody and their brother did this BCNM today, so there are 20 of each formerly rare item on the auction house. Not sure how this drop rate is gonna be for K-Club. Have to figure it'll be pretty rare. Even if only 2 or 3 drop per month, this would equal LoO. And now all you non-RMT have a chance. I have a feeling the price will still stay extremely high if they make it as rare as a 1% drop rate. From reading other threads, it seems this is the case. I'm gonna wait for more runs till I get some more info on the drop rate.

I don't suggest spamming Freeze. It might be a good opening spell to do. However it's not an instant fight and Freeze's mp/dmg ratio is just way too horrible. The other poster mentioned Drain, which is great in this fight. I was able to knock off 2~3% of it's hp with a 21 mp spell. On the other hand, Freeze a 307 mp spell takes off 8~9% of its hp.

Between Gravity, Bind, and Sleep there is very little chance you should be in trouble if you have any experience with communicating who has hate and who doesn't to nuke.

Quote:
Freeze's mp/dmg ratio is just way too horrible.

You're right that the damage takes off around 9% per Freeze. With 2 Blm, this means about 18% per cast = 6 attacks together kills the NM. With Rdm to Sleep 2 and Refresh, and the Blm healing between with their Dark Staves, the MP recovery is very easy. The problem with casting lesser spells is that even though it may have a better damage to mp ratio, you have to cast them more, and during this time the mob is awake and destroying the mages. Mages simply can't take the damage this NM dishes out. Casting spells that only take off 2-3% of it's MP would be disastrous. If you leave the mob awake long enough for the mages to cast 3-4 spells to equal the damage by Freeze, the mob will have done serious damage to your party and by that time have also Regen'd itself, making more damage to be done. You can't forget how essential it is for mages to have this guy asleep. This strategy allows you to wake up the mob the least amount of times. You'll sleep him 5 times, once after each attack. This only makes 5 times in the whole fight that he'll even try to attack. I can't imagine it getting much easier than this.
Just my opinion, but the Sleep 2/Freeze nuke method worked like a charm for me. Easy fights with no danger and done around 10 minutes. Btw, Sleep sticks well to this mob, but gravity/bind are highly resisted and the effect wears off extremely quickly.

I think I'm going to try this with some friends of mine. Might try THF(me), WHM, PLD. My only probs here would be PLD self cure with its attacking, and our damage output. Maybe we could do another DD instead of PLD. THF evasion is godly by 60, maybe I can eva/utsu tank it. (Did that for a ISNM Colobro fight, was only one we one of like 6, and the other 5 PLD tanked. So might be a really good settup, only time will tell. ^^)

We got it with 3 BST/WHM but barely. 1 of us was dead after each fight and we required 2 pets per BST. We attacked in 2 waves, first wave only funguars, then 3 new funguar + 3 bst. Blink and stoneskin before attacking is a must, the few hits they will save you from are enough to make a difference, our hp were red after each fight. I suspect it would have worked better if we had done like someone here said, which is letting one BST/WHM behind to heal the others, but we won anyway so np.

We got a steady drops that worth around 500k per fight. IMHO, this bcnm is the one that pays the most right now, since that celery isn't as interesting as it was before thanks to the drop of the price of the elusive earring.
