Description

Speak to Morangeart in Tavnazian Safehold and receive a key item.

The fight takes place in Monarch Linn and you will fight a Trap NM called Hamadryad. He cast nukes like Fire II, but he didnt do it often. He also did a lot of single target Paralyze and an AoE sleep. He had high defense, A LOT of HP, and seemed to dodge RNG attacks a lot.

Maybe i had some uber set up or something, because we went in, and not once did anyone go under yellow status. Barel even got to yellow at all.

We had Nin, Nin, Whm, Blm, Smn, Rng and won in 9 Mins. With the record being 8 mins.

mages brought:
3 yag drinks each
Pie
Pos pots

Melee brought:
melee food heh

we just pounding on it, Blm kept casting fire spells, I used Ifrit, at about 40% i Astral Flowed his ***, blm kept nuking, then i astral flowed again for the win. It was surprising easy. I guess it was my set up. I had never done this ENM either, and my whole party was Japanese (we were all pick ups). So the only thing i understood was "Summoner, astral flow @ 40%, use Ifrit" heh.

Dont listen to those who say avatars get slept TOO much. If they get slept all u have to do is send it away, and bring out a new one. My Ifrit was aslept a few times, but since i would do that quickly it wasnt a problem. Got off 2 astral flows and it went down.

I just wanted to note to everyone(did this on sunday) that you can enter this ENM with up to 7 people before exp is lowered. We went in with 11 and upon beating it(one paladin was dead, sorry cyanic ; ;) we got around 1.3k exp. It dropped the vanguard belt which is down to 225k on Fairy as of Sunday at least. We didnt use any food or poison potions or such and came out ok, IMO its better to save money on the items and just go in with as many friends as you can if your trying to quest this for an item...if your going to try to get this for gil it isnt worth the time because your either splitting the money with a lot of people or wasting money on powders and food.

Basic Tactics:

Our LS (SOBSuperheroes) did this last night successfully with no loss of life. Actually, no one even got into the orange except the tank and that was only for a few seconds.

Mob: Hymadryad (Flytrap family mob)

Special Attacks: AOE Sleep, Paralyze, Fire II, Special Phalanx, Special Blaze spikes.

Party Setup:

Nin/War = Tank
War/Rng = Damage
Rng/Nin = Range Damage
Red/Blm = Debuffs/Dispel/Nukes
Smn/Whm = Magical Damage
Whm/Smn = Healing

Supplies:

Poison Potions (6) at least, especially the melees
Potions and au laits for melees
Ethers and Juices for mages

Strategy:

Zone in, buff up and eat foods.
Buffs:

Protectra II
Shellra II
Barparalyzra
Barfira
Aeriel Armor

Mages:

Aquaveil
Stoneskin

Rest to full HP/MP, Drink your poison potions, then the nin goes charging in and provokes the mob. The rdm or blm should try the entire elemental wheel, starting with fire to see which element does damage. The mob is a Hymadryad is weak to one certain element. That element is random and is not dependant on the day of the week. We went in on darks day and it turned out weak to Ice of all things. Your melees will hit for jack til you find the right element. Once you find the mobs weakness, exploit it. Once we figured out Ice for us, rdm spammed it til it's buffs were down. This special phalanx CANNOT be dispelled and is on at the beginning of the fight. He doesn't cast it, it's just ON. It must be nuked away. It started to unload fire on us and we unloaded back ice. The melees were quick on their feet and changed to a distortion skillchain (Ice/Water), and hurt it bad. It will spam fire II so whm keep barfira up. Make sure the whm is drinking poison cuz she's got to get in close to refresh barfira. Also keep paralyna on macro as the mob likes to spam that on the tank. At some point after it's buffs are down, it was 50%HP for us, it will use super blaze spikes that hurt for 100hp each. The tank should have his auto-targeting OFF, so the second he takes damage, the spins around. At that point the damage dealers pull out of melee range, and just fire arrows at it. That's why the war/rng config is used in this battle. The nin just tanks backwards and spams Ninjistsu's, especially the one it's weak too. After about 30 seconds the tank should test the mob to see if the spikes are still on. Nuking it's weak element will help remove it, also the rdm's dispel helps. Once the spikes are off, which should be about 30 seconds, resume the beating. We used all our 2hrs at 1/3hp just for kicks. Ended the battle fast. The poor smn's avatars got slept and didn't get to see the big finale.

2500 exp for everyone in a 6party battle and new record of 11min 14 seconds, plus a reverands sash worth 660k on Gilgamesh split 6 ways. Good Times for everyone. Going to do it again in 5 days :).
The potion and aulait's weren't even used. I still had all my ethers. The only thing that I used was 2 yag drinks (I was the whm) and the rdm used 1 that I saw. Your party just has be compete and fast on it's feet to figure out which element it's weak too and to change according. Just keep talking to each other and you'll be fine.

One final thing, if we had to change the party config, we'd replace the summoner with a blm/whm. The poor avatars get slept way too much. Oh and remember to keep drinking your poison potions. We all used about 3 for the entire battle, but it varies with each team. Some shorter, some longer so take 6. This ENM also drops the woodsmens ring and Vanguard belt worth 1.2mil and 600k respectively on Gilgamesh. All good drops. ^^

Went into this with NIN/NIN/WAR/RNG/WHM/BLM (one NIN and BLM were pick-ups) expecting just to marathon it and have BLM use Fire > Fire2 > Firaga, which easily won it for my LS last time.

Idiot BLM couldn't enter the ENM for some reason, so it was just NIN/NIN/WAR/RNG/WHM, so we decided to try using Tonjutsu wheels.

Tonjutsu sucks, but it's better than melee. I'd brought full stacks of all 6 Tons, the other nin didn't bring any -_-; With maxed skill and regular taru INT I was hitting for 63 unresisted, and 6 resisted. By the time it died, I'd used about 40 of each powder.

It didn't have spikes on when we started, but at about 70% health it had it on... and it was gone at at least around 30% health, because the WAR tried smacking it around then and didn't take damage.

Luckily, Reverand Sash dropped. My JP LS friends are too generous though... split 6way even though the BLM did nothing for the ENM except help get there.
ok so know I don't know what to do

ok so knowok so know I don't know what to do. I did this fight like two weeks ago with 2 LS mates, and 3 other people we didnt' know. Those three guys knew each other and knew who the fight goes, we had no idea. I know we had at least BLM, WHM, RNG, PLD, and another melee, and I don't remember at all waht the last preson was. When we got there i was told to spam fire until it could take melee damage, and i would be told when that was. i think it took 2-3 fire spells and then they were doing normal damage. Then i just nuked like crazy. Once all my MP was used up i spent about 3 seconds trying to figure out if i should 2hr but then it died. Another quick perspective from the whm. He didn't have a problem keeping the tank healed, but he never got a chance to sit and rest. also, he almost ran out of MP right before it died, so if it'd taken any longer there would've been problems.

But seriously the fight went so fast and for my part was so easy, that I really don't know waht all happened aside from what I already said. Oh and we got a really good drop and made a ton of moeny. Well then we decided to do it again with all LS peeps, but this time got pretty much destroyed. So i don't have any idea what was different, or how to beat this guy.

Alright, all of this stuff is explained in the other messages, but just to put it all in one place:

The NM starts out with some sort of buffed-up Phalanx. It seems that casting fire on him removes it, and whether or not it comes back if you stop using fire I don't know. Once this buff is down he casts magic, including Fire and Fire II primarily.

At about 1/3 health (for us, at least), he'll just kinda... obtain a decked out version of Blaze Spikes. He does not cast it. It just happens. These spikes were doing 30-100 damage per hit to our NIN and MNK, usually on the lower end of that, but possibly because they were dual weilding it wasn't throwing the big numbers. I was unable to finale it despite trying three times with soul voice on. I don't think it can be removed.

Suggestions:
NIN tank. With Haste.
RNG's. With Acid Bolts.
WHM. With a Paralyna macro (the NM spammed abilities despite the only two melees having Subtle Blow)
Poison potions on anyone who will be within range of the sleep ability.

Q: What do I have to have completed to get into this ENM?

A: You had to have completed Phoneuman aqaducts (man I really rely on that tab button), which is part of chapter two of CoP, and defeated the minotaur and all the other lovely things to basically finish that mission and grant you access into riverne site A101.

Other useful info:

*Bad news: Getting too the entrance to this ENM is not fun. Hippogriphs have true sight, Wyverns and bombs aggro sight. bombs also aggro magic. Prisim powders are highly recommended for everyone (that mean you too whm!) *Good news: most of the levels are fairly short to get to the displacements.

*You need 2 Giant Scales to get access to the ENM. You get these by fight the wyverns. Wyverns like to dispel your protect and smack you really hard right up side the head so be prepared

*Items to bring with you on the trip:
Prism Powder
Reraise Scroll
Poison Potions (to keep you awake during sleep)
melees: food that increases accuracy/attack
hi potions and/or au lait drinks
mages: probably pies to increase MP
elixers and/or yag drinks
(that's all i can remember for now)

*He hits really hard. I suspect that after you start hitting him with magic he goes into a kind of berserk mode. He has some sort of blaze spikes effect as well though i can't confirm if he casted that. have whm barfira. I went as a pld and he hit me like a freaking paper doll. Regular hits were around 100-110, then he was critting for 220ish. At lvl 40 your hp can't take that kind of abuse. Add in the lovely blazespike effects for another 100 damage and that = 1 dead paladin.

*another things already mentioned but i can confirm is rng does miss alot and that spamming fire and thunder does help melees to hit (damage went from 5-50 i think one of our melees said)

*don't be afraid to use your two hours, you only get 1 shot at this guy every 5 days, so unload.

*DoT spells didn't seems to be worth the MP, save MP for fire/thunder nukes

Good luck to all, it's a messy one!

This is very good information. Thank you all for posting your findings on how to beat this NM ^^

Two questions I have though...

1) Do all three of these items drop at once? And if so, is it a guaranteed drop? I'm looking to get the Reverend Sash and want to know if I'm going to have to do this more than once. -.-

2) Do you have to be on a certain Promathia Mission to have access to this place? If so, which one? I have done all the Promyvions, but that's about it. Also, is there a special requirement to gain access/move through this area to get to the BCNM? People keep mentioning Hippogryph Tailfeathers, so I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance for any and all reponses. ^^
RE: Question..
# Jan 15 2006 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
1) In all ENMs, only one item drops, maybe along with a few other knicknacks.

2) You have to be on PM2-5 "Ancient Vows," or later to have access to Riverne Site #A01.

3) You need two Wyvern Scales (forgot exact name) to get to the ENM area. Dropped off Fire Drake.

I read SOMEWHERE, i could've sworn it was on this form, that the way to remove the uber-buffs was to cast the correct element of magic. I'm not sure if there was a corresponding one, but someone mentioned "working the circle" with the -ton elemental Ninjutsu, either Ichi or Ni. They mean casting in the order which the first does damage and exploits it for the second cast. This is more efficient than nuking because it's basically only consuming one ninja tool per cast instead of mp. Once you find out it's been dispelled, go to town on it.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the wind ninjutsu will dispel phalanx.
Edit: Fire must be the element, however other buffs may take other elements.

Tried this yesterday, pt setup was war/nin, drk/rng(me), mnk/thf, smn/whm, blm/whm, and whm/blm.
Now the reason I subbed rng was for this battle specifically. We went to farm Hippogryph Tailfeathers for a CoP mission, and were going to give this a dry run too. But according to JP websites (my LS is JP, FYEO on Garuda) this thing can cast blaze spikes that does 100+ dmg, hence the need for ranged attacks.
Ok, so we go in, buff up, and proceed to start pummeling this thing, or so we thought. as DRK with Mutilator and Venerer Ring, I was hitting (when I could hit) for 15-20 dmg normal, 35 crit. This thing has either way high def or a seriously bad-*** Phalanx. (not to mention it's regen). According to same website, dispel and silence don't work, so we didn't have an rdm or brd with us.
We tried everything we could to lower def. I was spamming absorb-VIT and -AGI whenever they were up to reduce def and eva, I was also using Xbow with acid bolts (even with rng sub and sharpshot, about 5% hit rate, if that ><), mages were using def down DoT's like Dia, Choke, etc, and we were getting nowhere. This lasted for about 10 minutes, and by that time we used up all juices, hi-potions, etc.
During this whole time, the plant did not cast one single spell, let alone a 100+ dmg blaze spikes. I know, because i was giving myself a headache straining to read the log, ready to pound on my stun macro the moment I see "Hamadryad begins casting Blaze Spikes". I didn't see that at all during the whole fight. now, by the 10 minutes mark, all melee and the smn have 2 houred (3 Ifrit Inferno's for 147 dmg each ;.;). We've basically realized we're at a standoff. He's hurting us sometimes, but we're getting back on top of it no prob. we're doing minimal dmg and that's being negated by regen.
Then for no reason other than he's a blm, our blm for the first time in the battle nukes with fire and thunder. He'd been using DoT's and his highest -ga spells mainly. Suddenly I see "Hamadryad begins casting Fire." and we're all like "whoa, he's suddenly casting magic after 10 minutes" (at least I assume they were saying the same as me, me being unable to read hiragana).
Then we notice something else, we're actually doing dmg, i hit 2 times for 65-80 dmg normal hits, and it's hp is going noticeably down. So we're stoked, thinking we're in the home stretch, and fire off our 7th SC, hoping to finish him off quick now. But after about a minute, our damage output drops way back down again and he regens back to full. </cry>
We were finally basically out of breath, no potions, no juices, no nothing left, not to mention mp, and he finally mowed us down 1 by 1, full PT death.

So now, what we have as our moral of this overblown story (sorry about the length ><). The Hamadryad apparently doesn't cast magic until you actually start hurting him, he just uses the standard Trap WS's, palsy pollen (paralyze), gloesuccous (slow), and the sleepga ws (don't remember the name). We can't establish yet whether or not dispel works, but JP website info is usually reliable. He has really high evasion, def, and regen. judging by other posts in this thread, it seems entirely possible that casting either fire or thunder on him negates his def for a short time, and when that happens he starts casting magic. He is highly aspirable, i had about an 80% accuracy rate with aspir, only getting 5-7 mp 2 or 3 times, the rest 40+. He always resisted abs-INT for me, but rarely resisted -VIT and -AGI. If the blaze spikes info is true, rng is probably highly recommended for this, considering even rng's have a high miss rate against this plant, and with 100+ dmg blaze spikes, you do NOT want to be meleeing when he puts it up.

I hope any info i've given helps formulate a working strategy for you and your PT's. again, sorry about the length. ^^;

Is it possible that the information about Blaze Spikes was translated wrong, and intended to say fire must be cast to do physical damage? That would seem to make sense, going along with what everyone has been describing in their experiences with this . . . thing.

Edit: Whoops, missed a couple of the later posts; I guess those Blaze Spikes are something different altogether. ^_^

I know the strategy after trying this with LS members. We were also doing almost no damage to the NM until we noticed one thing, he likes to cast fire (this is a big hint). Turns out casting fire on the NM weakens it, I was a war/nin doing 80-90 per hit after fire was cast on it (with great axe). My suggestion is for all the pt members to use poision potion (to prevent sleep), have a blm spam fire on it, rdm dispel it, others beat the hell out of it. We got it down to half life but it was too late, some members had already died. Use this strategy for a fast kill.

i can conferm this,

first off, our blm didnt SPAM it(for hate) but abut everyone 2:00 i'd go off.

this was a VARRY hard fight. it was long....grueliung....and painfull.

now...PT set up.
Rdm(me), Blm, War, Nin, Mnk, Sam.

i was the main healer in this pt.

Hate was going around like it was going out of style.

Almost everyone 2-hour'd at on part of the battle. first was the sam, then mnk, then war, then blm.

when we won, we all felt so satisfyed with it being over. we split the gil(after they sold *duh*)

and we agreed we would meet back next week to go up agian.

hope that all helped

Me an dmy pt did this today before our PM2.5 mission battle. Yes this mob has ALOT of Deff, HP and it also has crazy Regain. Our PT set up was: war/nin(me), rdm/nin, smn/whm, whm/blm, rng/nin, bst/whm its a strang pt set up but we were set up for PM 2.5 and did a dry run to see how this fight was. It did an aoe sleep afew times and Paralize on a single target. Highest rng hit it was for around 9 dmg with a normal shot. We got it down to about 85% life when he slife slowly started to come back. Were going to try it again with a little diffrent pt set up to find a way to kill this thing.

Tavnazian Safehold - Morangeart (G-10)

I can feel them... They're close, and getting closer! You're an adventurer, right? You know what I'm talking about--those "things" up on Cape Riverne. If we don't do something now, there's no telling what terrible fate awaits us. I'd go myself, but I have a bad case of bunions on my left foot. Oh, if I could only use this artifact to call forth the terrible beasts from their grottoes. Then I could vanquish them and free Tavnazia--no, Vana'diel--from the doom that lurks in the darkness! Where did I obtain this rare item, you ask? It was not but a few days ago that a strange merchant from the Far East visited the safehold. When he said he was selling magical items that could be used in defeating wretched wyrms and deadly dragons, I sold most of my belongings and purchased all he had. Here, why don't you take one? No, I don't need and reimbursement. Just knowing that a brave, strong adventurer such as yourself now has the ability to become the savior of mankind gives me peace of mind.

Obtained key item: Monarch beard.
