Description

Haud's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Chasm"

First off, head to (K-9). You will be on the easternmost side of the mountain, almost at the lower corner. You'll come to a point where there will be a ramp on either side of you, if you are facing the mountain. Take the left one, heading South. Proceed up a few steps and you'll reach a fork. Head to the right (North). You should be heading upwards now. Next, you'll hit another fork, on one side (left) is a crack in the wall, the other is a path. Head to the left (South, towards the crack). Proceed a bit further and you'll come to another split. Head north, taking the path heading upwards. At the next intersection, keep straight continuing North. You'll reach a spout, but it'll go down in a few seconds. Continue ahead, walking over the giant bone, still moving Northwards.

Now, you'll come to a dark black spout. This will not die down. At this point, fall off to the side (East). You'll then land on a platform directly below. Head North a bit, and you'll see this walkway ends quickly. Fall down, heading North still, however, and not fall to the right (east) like you did before.

If you did this all right, you should be heading upwards and North. YOu'll soon hit another intersection, but ignore it; head North still. You'll quickly hit another spout, and this one will not die either. So, you guessed it, fall down to the right (east) again. Don't fall too far. You want to fall on the platform DIRECTLY below, and not all the way down. If you did it right, you'll be facing north where the walkway continues, and right behind you, the platform will end. Continue North.

After you turn a corner, you'll see this massive bone heading upwards. To your left, you should see that the platform begins to rise. Take it upwards and move towards the bone. IF you don't go upwards, the platform will soon end, and you'll have nowhere to go, but down. Bad. Climb the bone, continuing upwards. At the top of the spiny bone thing, continue West now, moving upwards. You'll hit another intersection, but keep West. The platform will end, and you'll see the top. Too bad you can't get there yet ;-). Fall down to the platform, heading West. Make sure to fall at the END of the platform. If you did it right, a rock should be BEHIND you, not in front. If not, start over ^^. Head West. You'll encounter another spout, but it will disappear soon.

Once again, you'll see the top, but you still can't get there. Fall down again, to the North. Same as before, fall at the platform's END. If you did it right, a rock will be behind you. Head West. This path will wind a bit, and you'll cross over another spine/bone structure as well. Soon, you will hit another perma-spout. Fall to the North again onto the platform below. Do not fall on the ground. You'll be on a platform that will be VERY close to the ground. Don't worry, you're doing fine ^^.

Follow this platform around, heading in the general South direction being careful not to accidentally fall off. When you hit another spine, which is rather short, you'll see a path heading upwards. Take it. You should be heading Northwards and up now. At the top, head to the right (South) towards the crack in the wall.

You'll quickly hit another path heading upwards. Take it. At the top, ignore the path heading South and continue North. You'll hit a spout, but it will disappear soon. Follow the path over 2 sets of bones. After the bones and heading upwards a bit, the path will split.

To the north, you will see another set of bones, so head North. At the end of these bones, you'll hit a dead end. Continue up a bit, and you'll fall onto a path below you. If done right, you will have a rock behind you, and you will be facing Westwards. You'll soon hit another spout, but this one will disappear and when it does continue North. Now, just follow this path up a bit more and TA-DA! You're at the top.

While this looks like a lot, it's really about a 5-10 minute walk up if you don't screw up and you know how to do it. Of course, there are a lot of falls, twists, and turns. I would recommend trying yourself first before using this to see if you can do it; it's a fun challenge in the game. The basic idea is "Head counterclockwise from the southeast corner until you are on the direct opposite side from where you started. Then head clockwise. Fall to the path below you if you hit a perpetual spout."

I have done this run numerous times and have yet to have a problem as long as I have the right strategy and setup. I come ninja and don't have too much trouble tanking for those who say ninja isn't a good take. Boss has high accuracy, so counting shadows is helpful and boss can double attack. I always try to get a similar group setup. Nin/War, 2-3 DDs with fast damaging 2hrs(war, mnk, sam, rng, ect.), if 2 DDs I get a 2nd tank/semi-tank(nin/war or pld/nin DD setup), a sleeper either blm, rdm, or brd, and a healer(usually smn, but whm or rdm/whm work).

The Fight:
I split the groups up into 2 balanced 3man teams. Tank(can be a DD/nin), DD W/2hr, and mage. the 2 melee run in front looking for boss with mage behind to lower chance of pit ambush and 1shot death. Mages should at all times have Blink and Stoneskin up.

After the initial boss pop at the start we split up and look for mobs. If 1 group pops a minion, that group kills it. DD 2hrs away and kill fast. The other group looks for the boss. If 2nd group finds a minion, they kill it the same way with DD 2hring. If the 1st group(which used 2hrs on 1st minion) finds the 2nd minion, the other group assists and 2hrs to kill fast. With 2 minions dead, IF the 3rd one is found it is slept and ignored. When the boss is found, both groups join and wack away. If 1 group is killing a minion when boss is found, they kill minion then help with boss.

2hrs are not needed, but they speed up the fight and allow time to let mages rest if needed for a minute or 2 and heal up DD. And honestly, how often do we really use/need 2hrs other than big fights? The 3rd minion can be killed and you still win, but if you have trouble finding the boss, it can cause you to time out. There should be no reason the DD are running around in the yellow when the boss can do 800+ damage from pit ambush. Let mages rest to heal up ppl. Playing it safe and using 2hrs I have yet to have a fight go past 11minutes except 1 time when we killed all 3 minions and boss.

As far as a pattern goes. I have noticed certain spots the boss likes to pop. I can't predict exactly which point he will be at, but I do go over the various spots when searching and usually find him.

My last 8 runs have been good. In 2 runs I have gotten a Hagun and Forager's Mantle in the same treasure pool. But I am still looking for that elusive Cloud Evoker.

I did this a while ago, and the tank knew where the NM would spawn. We never had to kill the other ones, except once when the SAM accidentally headed the wrong way and aggroed one. When I asked him how he knew, he just said "Pattern". Anyone found a way for knowing where the main one spawns?

It's very important to stay together when doing this ENM - we got separated one time just for about ten seconds, and we realized it, an antlion popped. No problem eh, we just all come back? On the way to gather on the popper, we got two more, and it all but wiped the group. We actually DID kill the big NM, but it fell right as the time ran out so we failed.

STAY IN A GROUP unless there's only the big NM remaining to fight.

Ok, I trio'd this ENM with a 75MNK/37WAR a 75NIN/37WAR, and a WHM68/BLM34, LET ME TELL you. We went in, and just meleed, no fancy footwork. This ENM is one of the funner sides of SE. Just WS when it casts a GA and youll be fine, or just have a good whm which we did. 0/6 for the Mantle so far. But we will overcome it.

My setup:

Rdm/blm (3rd fight)


first fight. Won
I duoed this fight with a whm. The luck was on us. We popped Tuchulcha 3 times and Swift Hunter and finished it in 14 minutes. I 2hred on the swift hunter to save time.

2nd fight: Loss
We killed a Shrewd Hunter but later on got ambushed by both Tuchulcha and Armored Hunter. We wiped and time ran out 20 secs later.

3rd Fight: Loss
Brought a rdm along. We killed all 3 hunters but didn't have enough time to kill Tuchulcha :(.

There seems to be possible ambush points in the area for those willing to duo/trio this fight. I will try to describe where some spots are:

1. on the hill
2. in the other end of the zone (not where you came in)
3. Around the pillar (possibly 4 spots!)
4. the straight path (other than taking the hill)
5. Two near the center (where the CoP mithra trackers stand)

Where is the info on the ENM?

This is a nice description on climbing the Tor but where is the description of the ENM? Yes, you do need the misama filter to enter the ENM which this description helps but this does not discuss the about the Antilions you have to fight.

Ok, i have never tried this ENM, but i have a party of 6 lvl 75s willing to help me do this so i can get the Foragers Mantle. Im 75SAM/NIN/MNK so this thing is awesome for me... my only question is this, Can ninja tank this critter better than paladin?
My setup will be Nin,Sam,Thf,War,Rdm,Rdm, any opinions on if this is a good setup?

My ENM static does this and two other uncapped ENMs (Brothers and Bionic Bug) once a week. I've probably won this 20 times (lost once b/c our SAM forgot to turn in his stones for a key item and we just didn't have enough damage). Anyway, those calling for 2hrs and sleeping the first non-NM mob are taking this to an extreme. Yes, it's a 15 minute fight, but that's pretty long to kill one mob (you had a 10 minute timer on Maat). I'm going to give our battle plan here. If you are not taking in a balanced party of 70-75, this may not work, but otherwise it should.

Setup: PLD, SAM, DRK, BLM, RDM, WHM (me)

Enter, cast protectra IV, and have the pld move forward first.

Engage the mob and the rdm and blm should stack DOT on it (Bio II and Poison II for rdm, and those three elemental DOT that do vit, dex, and agil). The melee should build tp but do not use it. About the time the melee get TP and use the first WS in a skill chain, the NM will disappear. Just wait it out. NM will drop down at about 75-80% health.

The drop down move will bind the tank (even past shadows), and it's a long bind. Be ready with erase. Move away together and find the next mob. If it's the NM, run a SC on it (which will cause it to drop just about right away after). If it's the non-NM, run a skill chain on it (this will just about kill it). Once it's dead or down, move around again until you find another mob. If it's a non-NM, kill the second one too. Rinse and repeat. If you find the third non-NM, then sleep it. Once it's slept, move and find the NM and kill it. You normally have to find the NM 3-5 times before you'll kill it. This sounds long, but it's really not. I have never, ever ran out of time with a group of six killing the first two NMs, and we have rarely needed our 2hrs in this fight.

Some more info about this.

NM moves. AOE damage and blind, single target damage and poison (might be conical, we just don't have members stand with the tank), ambush (big damage 180ish on pld, 600ish on mages) when you find it, single target bind when it burrows.

Non-NM moves. Same blind and poison, also a bind move that is single target.

One other warning. If you move in and engage the mob before someone in your party enters, that member will not be allowed in. Make sure that all six members have entered before starting the fight. This is more of an issue here b/c less time is taken for buffs. We had a person R0 for a few seconds, and b/c of that they couldn't get in. We won anyway (still killing 2 non-NMs) and cut him in since it really wasn't his fault he didn't get in.

ok... im screwed. i was wanting to sneak my way into attowah chasm to see tiamat as a 35 war and decided to talk to the npc cuz i thought he would say something helpful. That's nonsense, it's not because this ENM is capped at level 75 that you need to be level 75 to do it. Our LS takes this monster down weekly, so i've slayed it about 15 times. I'm level 57 BLM so i'm not extremely helpfull, but i can still do some nice work inthere.

Also, you can just take the pouch up the mountain, trade it to the Cradle, and give it back to the npc. You'll get a key item for it in staid, that won't clog your inventory.

And to answer the actual question: if you drop the pouch you can get a new one 5 days after obtaining the last one. No loss in that.

Maybe they've updated this...but I just got the pouch from the NPC, dropped it, then talked to him again (all without so much as moving an inch) and he gave me another pouch right away....

The ENM timer is 15 minutes for this fight, and you will be fighting one main mob, Tulchucha, and 3 types of antlion, Armored, Shrewd and Swift Hunters. As far as I know, only 4 can pop at once, but even so the 'sub' mobs are tough. Don't bother fighting them, as 15 minutes can go very fast.

When you enter, you must quickly buff and then head in, as to my knowledge, the timer will start off immediately once you enter. Tulchucha will be waiting a few clicks ahead. Let your tank (PLD preferably) voke it, get as much hate as possible, and have all damage dealing options pile on to the mob. After a while Tulchucha will burrow into the ground (indicated by the standard mob 2hr animation and instant vanish of the mob). From here on you will have to play a short round of hide and seek with it. Only catch is, there's 3 other antlions waiting as well, ready to bite your ***.
THF and anyone else with /THF is advised for flee'ing around and finding the mobs, preferably 74THF/NIN for fast Utsu recast since Pit Ambush goes through shadows and can do a good deal of damage (I was 71THF when I tried this, and it dealt around 600 dmg, which hurt.) Pack a few hi-pots as well, don't rely on the WHM to heal you completely, as time is really tight and you must find Tulchucha asap. Sleep the sub mobs and pound away on Tulchucha when you find him. He has fairly low HP for a BC mob, and can be killed quite fast if you have enough DD (our setup was PLD THF RNG MNK RDM WHM, with RNG and MNK using their 2hrs to dish out the pain).

Overall it was an interesting ENM, certainly a lot of fun, compared to the standard ENM mob fight template :)

From the last couple of times that I have done this fight, I can say with a surety that the best way to pull the mob after it goes back into the groud is with Flee + Perfect Dodge. Perfect Dodge absorbs the Pit Attack ability entirely, and you won't get destroyed by numerous antlions all taking down shadows if you don't find Tulchucha first. Note that the poison attack that is used by Tulchucha is very painful, so don't pull while poisoned.

Did this today 9/12/05 74 PLD(me) WAR 75 THF 75 WHM 75 RDM 75 and 71 DRK was a easy fight cept for finding the little buggers burried, not to mention the NM buried 3 times during the fight.

Drops: Hagun (SAM TP GTK)
and a cloth K somthing for
NIN and SAM JSE
What we did was have the THF run ahead and me the PLD follow, let the antlions pop out on thf, I voke and we start working on them. When the NM shows up we bashed the hell out of it and it buries. For the most part we killed the babies, slept one or two and killed the NM.

Kudos to the author for posting, in unnecessary detail, the path up the chasm's mountain (which isn't very hard at all once you've done it 2 or 3 times), but a MAJOR rate down for having NO information on the actual fight itself. I've treaded up that mountain many a time for the race runner ENM, so some of us actually came to this page looking for information on the battle, and not directions to it.

Does anyone have information on the battle itself? I gather its a few antlions, but do they have any special weaknesses/strengths? Anyone have any strategies? Really, this is probrably one of the more thoughtless guides I've seen here. It'd be like saying of Desert Swarm, "Head to the mines and go upstairs to the very back with a Lachesis orb".

Actually, that description was posted under the Attowah Chasm's Map for doing PM 3-3... someone copied onto here for just getting to the top of the mountain to get the item you need to get into the ENM... And Alla did what Alla does... Takes walkthroughs without notice, permission, or, usually, credit and posts it as the guide to that quest. In this case... they took something that wasn't even a walkthrough for this specific ENM...
It wasn't the writer's fault it has no connection... it fulfills the writer's purpose. To get people to the top of the mountain.
Alla is what made it non-relevant.

Many thanks to Haud, who wrote this excellent guide. It helped me and a LS-mate get to the top of Parradamo Tor in Attohwa Chasm. At the top, we traded the Flaxen Pouch to the Cradle of Rebirth and recieved the Parradamo Stones. I traded the stones to the starting NPC and recieved the key item Miasma Filter. From what I've read, this key item gives you access to a burning circle in Boneyard Gully (ENM "Sheep in Antlion's Clothing").

will be a ramp on either side of you, if you
are facing the mountain. Take the left one, heading South. Proceed up a few steps and you'll
reach a fork. Head to the right (North). You should be heading upwards now. Next, you'll hit
another fork, on one side (left) is a crak in the wall, the other is a path. Head to the
left (South, towards the crack). Proceed a bit further and you'll come to another split.
Head north, taking the path heading upwards. At the next intersection, keep straight
continuing North. You'll reach a spout, but it'll go down in a few seconds. Continue ahead,
walking over the giant bone, still moving Northwards.

Now, you'll come to a dark black spout. This will not die down. At this point, fall off to
the side (East). You'll then land on a platform directly below. Head North a bit, and you'll
see this walkway ends quickly. Fall down, heading North still, however, and not fall to the right (east) like you did before.

If you did this all right, you should be heading upwards and North. YOu'll soon hit another
intersection, but ignore it; head North still. You'll quickly hit another spout, and this
one will not die either. So, you guessed it, fall down to the right (east) again. Don't fall
too far. You want to fall on the platform DIRECTLY below, and not all the way down. If you
did it right, you'll be facing north where th ewalkway continues, and right behind you, the
platform will end. Continue North.

After you turn a corner, you'll see this massive bone heading upwards. To your left, you
should see that the platform begins to rise. Take it upwards and move towards the bone. IF
you don't go upwards, the platform will soon end, and you'll have nowhere to go, but down.
Bad. Climb the bone, continuing upwards. At the top of the spiny bone thing, continue West
now, moving upwards. You'll hit another intersection, but keep West. The platform will end, and you'll see the top. Too bad you can't get there yet ;-). Fall down to the platform,
heading West. Make sure to fall at the END of the platform. If you did it right, a rock
should be BEHIND you, not in front. If not, start over ^^. Head West. You'll encounter
another spout, but it will disappear soon.

Once again, you'll see the top, but you still can't get there. Fall down again, to the
North. Same as before, fall at the platform's END. If you did it right, a rock will be
behind you. Head West. This path will wind a bit, and you'll cross over another spine/bone
structure as well. Soon, you will hit another perma-spout. Fall to the North again onto the
platform below. Do not fall on the ground. You'll be on a platform that will be VERY close
to the ground. Don't worry, you're doing fine ^^.

Follow this platform around, heading in the general South direction being careful not to
accidentally fall off. When you hit another spine, which is rather short, you'll see a path
heading upwards. Take it. You should be heading Northwards and up now. At the top, head to
the right (South) towards the crack in the wall.

You'll quickly hit another path heading upwards. Take it. At the top, ignore the path heading South and continue NOrth. You'll hit a spout, but it will disappear soon. Follow the
path over 2 sets of bones. After the bones and heading upwards a bit, the path will split.

To the north, you will see another set of bones, so head North. At the end of these bones, you'll hit a dead end. Continue upa bit, and you'll fall onto a path below you. If done right, you will have a rock behind you, and you will be facing Westwards. You'll soon hit another spout, but this one will disappear, and when it does,
continue NOrth. Now, just follow this path up a bit more and TA-DA! You're at the top.


While this looks like a lot, it's really about a 5-10 minute walk up if you don't ***** up
and you know how to do it. Of course, there are a lot of falls, twists, and turns. I would
recommend trying yourself first before using this to see if you can do it; it's a fun
challenge in the game. The basic idea is "Head counterclockwise from the southeast corner
until you are on the direct opposite side from where you started. Then head clockwise. Fall
to the path below you if you hit a perpetual spout."

It's really easy, and in a few tries, you'll get it ^^.

~~Anyone know exactly what the deal is with the 'smoke' on the mountain side?~~ I got the pouch and decided to see if I could make my way up the mountain. There was one section, with the purple smoke, right before a branch/bone you walk over and I swear I walked to that area atleast 10 times and could not pass. Finally, I saw someone else run over the branch and so I went back up and still could not pass. Later, I passed that way again and the smoke was gone and I got by. So when I get to the next area with smoke, I decide to wait to see if it will clear. I waited several minutes and nothing. So I slide down the mountain and eventually ended up on the ground. :sucked:

My LS won this one last night.

PLD 69, BLM 69, WHM 75, WAR 75, BRD 75, THF 75

beat NM in 13 mins, we killed 2 children and then pop NM and killed it.

Dropped Viridian Urushi, Martial Axe and 2500 exp.

Urushi about 4k, and Martial Axe cost 160k on Phoneix. First try and won, but drop is too bad.

Just as a note for this ENM. If you can kill the main NM before the others pop, the fight is over and you can collect your prize!

Broke the record by two minutes. It helps when you have two BLMs MBing Thundaga III off a Light SC.

Side Note: Although the MB might not get resisted, be prepared for a couple of resists from the main NM.
