Mission Orders

To break the Wyrmking's pact, you must locate the Keeper of the Apocalypse as quickly as possible. To do that you must first learn more of Al'Taieu, as well as find Prishe and the mysterious boy.

Walkthrough

Similar to chapter 3's double forks, you can progress on the 3 separate forks simultaneously.

The Pursuit of Paradise, Tenzen Path

PM 5-3A1: Visit the ??? spot at (G-6) in La Theine for cutscene.

PM 5-3A2: Go to the tower closest to Fei-Yin (J-8) to enter the LV50 capped Pso'Xja. As you progress in there, checking the Stone Doors usually will activate the trap which spawns a Gargolye (On a run, every door spawned the Gargolye). If the Gargolye pops, you have to kill it to open the door. The path in here is a long and winding one with many stone doors to open. You will be fighting some tonberries, bats and magic pots along the way. At the end point, cast sneak and take the elevator down to the Avatar Gate for a cutscene.

PM 5-3A3: Go to Upper Jeuno infirmary and talk to Monberaux (G-10). Then go to the armory room in Ru'Lude Palace, and talk to Monberaux again.

PM 5-4A4: Exit through Upper Jeuno to Batallia. Walk out to the stone gates and turn left just beside the gate. You will find a hidden "???" mark on the ground. Check it for a cutscene. After the cutscene, check the ??? mark again to get a Key Item. Next head to Lower Delkfutt's 1st floor and check the Cermet Gate at (H-5) to spawn an NM.

PM 5-3A5: Next head to Beaucedine again and go to the tower nearest to the Battalia exit (H-10) to enter the LV60 capped Pso'Xja for a cutscene. This tower has many one way passages, to get to the Avatar gate follow the right wall until you get to I-8. once in the first room at I-8 head west into the next room and drop into the hole. In the room below head south and around the turn to a room at H-9. Head North in that room to get to the elevator. At the bottom of the elevator there will be some Diremites, one goblin and an elemental if there is a weather condition. At the bottom head to the Avatar gate to get a CS. After this, report back to Cid to end this route.

Where Messengers Gather, Ulmia Path

PM 5-3B1: Go to South San d'Oria (A-6) Trader's Manor and talk to Hinaree.

PM 5-4B2: Enter Port San d'Oria for event.

PM 5-3B3: Go to the Cathedral at North San d'Oria and talk to Chasalvige inside the manuscript room. Then go to Windurst Waters' Rhinostery and talk to Kerutoto. Then go to Windurst Walls and visit Yoran-Oran.

You will be told to go to Attohwa Chasm to find the 3 Tracker Mithras. They are waiting at the Boneyard Gully BC. This is a LV50 capped BC fight with the 3 Shikaree Mithras. Because of their WS spams, your PT might die to it pretty fast if without organized tactics. Together with a dragon call and a rabbit summon, there is a total of 5 mobs attacking. It will be best if you can sleepga them with BLM or lullaby them with a bard but only Shikaree Z has a higher probability being slept. At the beginning of the battle, have a PLD aim at Shikaree Z first and use Invincible (or get a brave tanker) to get hate and let the Summoner use Astral Flow (use avatar according to the elemental day) on the 5 mobs. This should reduce their HP to more than half. If anyone has a Siredon Grill item, this would be the time to use them. It would stop the Mithra you are fighting with to halt TP regen, so it won't keep spamming WS. As for the Summoner, quickly restore MP with HiEthers or Super Ether and use the 2nd Astral Flow. This should kill off Shikaree Z and the 2 pet summons, leaving Shikaree X and Y. If this works, the battle is half won! Concentrate on Y and then X cautiously. If the Summoner can still use Astral Flow, by all means go ahead ^_^. Please get a lot of Hi Potions along.

PM 5-3B4:

Next you have to go to Ulegerand Range to reach Bearclaw Pinnacle for another BC fight. To go to Bearclaw Pinnacle, go westward thru the first cave and you will reach a wide open area with an upslope with some Buffalo mobs roaming around. Somewhere around (J-10) there is a pithole on the ground. Drop down that hole and walk eastwards initially. You will come to a T-junction and walk Northward.

Bearclaw Pinnacle BC is a LV60 capped fight. This fight involves 1 Snoll Tzar bomb boss. This boss is a bit... well... tricky. You are given 45 seconds (yes...seconds -_-; ) to defeat the bomb, similar to the timb bomb BCNM. The bomb will grow in size 3 times (long time FF fans should find that familiar LOL) before it explodes. And whether you die to that explosion or not, you will be expelled from the BC and the fight fails. Therefore you need to do mucho damage and FAST! When I went, we had a PT config of RNG, SAM, RDM, RDM, RDM, SMN. RNG had a SAM sub, while SAM subbed RNG and both the attackers gained TP to 100% before entering BC. We also brought along Hi-reraiser potion since we don't have a WHM. Once in the BC, do the necessary buffs. At the start, RNG n SAM spams as many Sidewinders as possible, and the 3 RDMs chainspell Fire2, SMN use Ifrit Astral Flow. If anyone has Shu-Meyu Salt item, this would be a good time to use it if you think you can win the battle. The Salt will increase the time limit by 15 seconds.

If (touch wood) in the event, you failed the BC and survive, you will be booted out of the BC. Also you will have a status effect of Slip where you lose 32HP per 3 seconds. If you have very low HP remaining, you may die off. If you already died, dun reraise yourself too quickly.

After the fight, go back to Cid and report to him.

Past Sins, Louverance Path

PM 5-3C1: Go to Tavnazian Safehold and talk with Despachiaire.

PM 5-3C2 - Southern Legend: Go to Windurst Woods and talk to Perih Vashai at (K-7).

PM 5-3C3: Next go to Bibiki Bay and take the ManaClipper to Purgonorgo Isle and go to the south bay (H-11) where you'll find a NPC WarMachine. Check it for a cutscene. After that, visit Yoran Oran in Windurst Walls for another cutscene.

PM 5-3C4: After the next BC each member will need a Gold Key (rare). These drop from several Goblins in Newton Movalpolos, including Goblin Fireman, Goblin Packman, and a few others. Next go back to WinWalls and talk with Yoran-Oran. Then go to Movalpolos Oldton to activate another cutscene. Head to (K-10) where you can see the NPC moblins and the Rusty Levers. If you have a Snow Lily (Rare/Ex) item with you, you can trade it to Tarnotik NPC moblin on the left who will warp you directly to the BC entrance. Beware this only applies to the person using it, not the whole PT. If someone doesn't have a Snow Lily, you have to get 3 person to activate the 3 Levers at the same time to raise the bridge to cross to Movalpolos Newton and use at least 3 Firesand items to activate the Furnace to turn the Turnstile Gates for the PT to reach the BC...very troublesome. Snow Lily can be obtained from Ulegerand Tigers or Cwn Awwn dogs at Ulegerand Range. You can also pay for the solo ENM and be warped there. Any way you can get to Mine Shaft #2716 will work.

PM 5-4C5: Mine Shaft #2716 BC 60 cap 4 Moblins and one Bugbear. The Bugbear is Bugbby (WAR/MNK) and uses Mighty Strikes. The 4 Moblins are Chekochuk (BLM), Movamuq (WHM), Swipostik (THF), and Trikotrak (RDM). They can not be slept and but they can be silenced, bound, normal debuffs, ect. The 4 Moblins to not hit hard and are not as bad as Bugbby. The main problem in the BC is controlling 5 mobs that can't be slept. It is recomened that you take out the WHM, BLM, RDM, THF, then Bugbby in that order. Make sure to silence the BLM, he likes to cast sleepga and knows AM. All of the mobs talk in /say to each other and request support of eachother, usually resulting in the others going to fight whoever has hate on the one that called. This isn't strong, a voke or flash will usually get their attention back. Our party set up was PLD, WHM, MNK, BLM, RDM, RNG and we did just fine.

After fight return to Cid for CS, then return to #2716. If you the solo ENM to get out to the BC then you just have to pay 2k again to get warped there. Trade your gold key to the BC to get a CS, and then return to Cid to complete the path.

Alternate Mithra Strategy

I did Mithra last night with my static, which has no SMN in it. We went in as PLD, DRK, RNG, WHM, BLM, RDM. Our first run was dry and we wiped. Our second run, we went "all out" and expended all our 2 hours and meds. We wiped. Then we were pissed off and wanted one more shot.

So, we came up with the key part of the strategy - we planned for a mid-battle wipe and RR by fighting away from the pit the Mithra are in. The key to a wipe is making sure one of the Mithra dies beforehand. We killed in the order of DRG -> BST -> DRK. We ignored the pets. We barely got the DRG down before we wiped, but we did. Then we RRed and rested to full. Then we went after the BST, and I (the DRK) used Poisonga to keep shadows down. After the BST went down, we attacked the DRK. Now, the DRK's Blood Weapon is troublesome, so when it went off, we shadowbound it and got away for about 45 seconds to make sure it wore off, then we finished the job.

Important note is to NOT use Sleepga. When we first went in, the RDM assigned to the DRK and the BLM to the BST, to alternate sticking Sleep II and Bind on them as possible. This way it was easier to keep hate bouncing, and Sleep II is more effective than Sleepga. Once the first mob was down and we RRed, killing the BST and the DRK really wasn't a huge challenge. When we moved onto the BST after the DRG and wipe, the RDM continued to Sleep/Bind the DRK to keep it out of the way.

All in all, worked flawlessly. 90% of our meds were blown in the first two runs, so this method managed to be fairly low-maintanence on meds as well. If you don't have a SMN, do not fear, this fight is winnable, there's just more blood, sweat and tears involved.

I was wondering if anyone has a story of winning with a ninja tank or a few /NINs. None of the people in our static have PLD anywhere close to being 60. My linkshell swears it can't be done with two WAR/NINs trading hate or a NIN tanking. "Invicible is a must." Can anyone prove them wrong? ..someone -please- prove them wrong because I really don't want to level PLD or go through the process of finding a 7th person to help us out. :\

CS issues with Tenzen's Path?
# Mar 30 2006 at 3:58 PM Rating: Decent
I am having a problem getting the CS in La Theine Plateau for Tenzen's Path. I have already completed Louverance's Path and have done the CS for Ulmia's Path.

When I went to the ???? at G-6 in La Theine, I got a CS with Carbuncle where he gave me the Rainbow Resonator key item (which I'm assuming is for the new avatar battles). I have zoned, logged out, talked to Cid and chosen the option; and every time I go back I just get Carbuncle telling me to go to Full Moon Fountain.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, what did you have to do to get the CoP CS? Thanks for any help you can give.

Edit: Figured it out. If anyone else has this problem, just keep clicking on the ???? repeatedly. Eventually Tenzen will show up in the correct CS.

You need to talk to the 3 taru's in the tower @ I-7 in B. Glacier(which i believe to be the same tower you went to when you do the Warp2 quest) then you talk to cid. I had the same problem with Carby and the Rainbow Resonator. Now with the 3 Tarus @ I-7 I dont know which one is the main one so talk to them all twice just to make certain that you didnt skip anything. Afterwhich you go back to carby in La Thiene.

Is the "Slip" status mentioned in description confirmed? Can it be erased? How can it hang on after a KO as the text suggests?

Untrue, it does however do AoE frost which killed our nin after finishing the fight since no one noticed he had it on, including himself

The name of the move is "Cold Wave". It's a nasty ice-based AoE which delivers damage and the nasty Frost effect, lowering AGI. BLUs can learn this from normal Snolls.

Did this last night with my static

BRD, PLD, MNK, RNG(me), BLM, RDM

First time we entered the BRD forgot to 2hr and we lost by 800 points of damage

Second time...

I didn't even manage to finish my DD run before we won

MNK 2hr'd and did Raging Fists every 100% tp
She did a total of 2764 points of damage
I did : Slug Shot > Barrage > Meditate > Slug Shot > Slug Shot > Eagle Eye Shot and I did a total of 2734 points of damage (I did the first salt though, so she got an unfair advantage :P)
The RDM Chainspell Thunder II and the BLM did a Flare
RDM and BLM were both at 2k damage each aprox

I was about to pop my icarus wing for a last slug shot, but it was already dead

Our strategy was

I meditated 2 times (rng/sam 4tw) then when meditate had 1 minute left before re-use, we run in. I did first salt, PLD did invincible then everyone started their own method of dealing damage

For the BLM it was Manafont > Flare > Firaga II and I think another Firaga II
For the RDM it was Chainspell > Thunder II not sure how many times he landed it
For the MNK it was Hundred Fists > Raging Fists at 100%
For me it was Slug Shot > Barrage > Meditate > Slug Shot > Slug Shot > Eagle Eye Shot
For the BRD it was nothing, considering she had no damage spell, instead she did Soul Voice double minuet, int etude for the blm and rdm and hunters prelude for me

Overall, it was an easy fight :S

after all the trouble that was Promyvion Vahzl, all I can say is wow hellaeasy fight. Did this with 6 people, 2 smns, 2 blms, 1 pld, and a fresher i think, anyways, 2 bloodpacts 2 agas and all the trackers were dead.. refer to the other posts for strategy

wanted to point out a choke point, Kerutoto also activates the Diabolos quests and ya may need to either click on him a few times, (while he seems to be dreaming about PSOxja he woke up for me on the third click), or re-zone. Hope this clears up a problem that I atleast had.

Find Prishe 5-3
# Feb 28 2006 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
To be honest I did the Find Prishe path today and it was pwned! Setup was SMN, PLD, BLM, BLM, BLM, BLM. Mithras Dropped like flies after the fight started PLD 2hred invincible then entered the battle then I (SMN) 2hred then used Leviathan (because it was watersday) after the 1st Tidal Wave they were all at half HP and X's rabbit died on the 1st attack blms just nuked like crazy then I managed to get my 2nd Tidal Wave in and it was over didn't even need to cure once. Beat the record at that XD. Then we decided to to the bomb and it was just as easy only since it was a lvl 60 cap and my smn was 50 I went blm and 1 blm went as SAM. We waited 2 hrs so we'd have a clean fight. when we got to the fight SAM came up with a fusion SC he could solo and we all Cast Flare after the PLD Invincibled again and entered the fight to get the hate then the SAM did his Fusion SC all the blms hit for over 1300 damage then followed with another AM Spell and it was over. Keep in mind you only have 45 secs to beat this guy b4 he explodes and wipes the party. GL to you all ^^.

Moblins
# Feb 27 2006 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
The Moblins were fun. We did that with RDM, RDM, BLM, BLM, PLD, MNK

1 RDM kited a moblin, 1 RDM kited Bugbear, I kited a moblin RDM (I was PLD). The 2 BLMs cast Freeze to start the fight on the BLM to drop it in one blow and the MNK Hundred Fisted the WHM.

After those first two died, we just brought in the kited mobs and killed them one by one.

For you WHMs doing this mission, actually more specifically the Snoll fight. For christ;s sake...I know you have a lot of things to do but if you have a RDM who's chainspelling for christ's sake give him top priority on Erase when it comes to Snoll's AoE frost move. I've been victim to begging for erase only to not get it then convert and die because frost is -30HP/sec numerous times now, just recently asking, not getting it, then converting with chainspell up (effectively wasting a good 4-5 seconds) using Cure, then getting blasted with conical AoE and dying to frost two seconds later. And I can say quite surely that we've lost this BCNM 3 times now due to sheer incompetence when it comes to using erase.

/endrant.

the doors with Tenzen

Hello all!

I have been on CoP 5-3 for a while now.

The other day I was finally able to finish the Louverance Path (Moblin BCNM). It took me a while, because I could never find enough people who had access to that BCMN.

I guess I'm worried now that the same will apply with the Tenzen path. I need to go to the 50 cap area in PsoXja.
Once there, I need to go through all those doors wich can spawn gargoyles.
My question is... Can anyone go through those doors? Or do you have to be on CoP 5-3?

And also, how many people would you recommend on going to PsoXja to fight those Gargoyles? Are they difficult to kill?

Thanks so much for your help!

I think anyone can do this as you can spawn the Gargoyles even if you don't have CoP up to this point (did that while exploring before I got to 5-3). As for the Gargoyles, I don't think they're difficult, you just need a few people to kill them, and maybe a stun if they try to meltdown.

Yes anyone can go through the doors. Brought a LS thief along (he was still on B01) to pick the doors. Yes a thief can 'attempt' to disarm the traps. However our luck was such that whenever he did disarm the trap.. someone was left behind and therefore had to fight anyway /cry

But anyway, a balanced exp party setup can easily kill everything on the way there. You only need to be on the mission for when you click the 'avatar gate'. If you dont have the mission you probabaly get the "nothing special here" message.

Finally got this mission done.... This is by far the most annoying mission i've ever done. I won each BC the first time trying, but all the running around and planning made me pretty irritable... especially getting to Bugbear BC only to find out that one of the people had not done any of the cutscenes.

For Mithra trackers, setup was:
Rng/Nin (me)
Pld/War
Smn/Whm
Smn/Whm
Whm/Smn
Blm/Rdm

For Snoll Tzar, setup was:
Rng/Nin (me)
Blm/Rdm
Blm/Rdm
Brd/Whm
Rdm/Blm
Bst/War

For Bugbear, setup was:
Rng/Nin (me... surprise surprise)
Pld/War
Smn/Whm
Smn/Whm
Whm/Smn
Rdm/Blm

For the most part, on a couple of them, Pld ran in, voked one of the mobs and used Invincible while everyone else just went to town doing the most/fastest damage they could do.

Just did Head Winds (3 Mithra Trackers) with part of static....mission literally took 10 seconds to complete ^^.

Setup was
pld/war(me)
smn/???
smn/???
smn/???
blm/???
blm/???

subjobs were unimportant to the fight really...we entered on watersday. Entered bc and smns buffed me with stoneskin and aerial armor. I went first and voked Shikaree Z and attracted attention of all other NMs. I used invincible and as soon as they saw my macro.. all 3 smn used Astral Flow (Tidal Wave). One, Two, Three, mission over. the blms...they got to stand there and cheer. they both almost finished using yag drinks before it was over. Best setup imo... pld for hate control and 3 smn...done deal before it starts. Good Luck! repeating this for rest of static thursday^^.

BLM x4 using Freeze will kill one of the mithra right away. Either wipe, recover and nuke again, or have the other 2 occupy the survivors long enough for the BLMs to reload their AM cannons.

Just make sure to die away from their initial spot >_<

Funny story about this:
Last night my CoP static went to do the last 50-cap BCNM fight in the CoP story line that we needed (the MIthran Trackers in Boneyard Gully). Party was rdm, rdm, pld, nin, whm, mnk. We got there and instead of doing a dry run we just went for the win right away (big mistake). Anyway, the mnk and pld both lost their 2hrs and we wiped. After the fight we kind of noticed one of the tanks hadn't been holding hate on his mob too well...someone checked the pt list and what do you know, he was subbing BLM17!!! Doh! (Not saying which tank since it can happen to anyone and is No Big Deal among friends.)

We had a good laugh and did some general teasing, but it left us in a dilemma over quitting vs trying again using some sort of strategy given that we were short two critical 2hrs and an effective hate holding tank (plus a few of our muddy siredons were gone). Instead of giving up, I suggested the following strategy:

mnk takes the bst
nin takes the drg
pld takes the drk
mages hold back in "camp"

Melees quickly bring their mobs to a close group in front of the mages and whoever has fish remaining uses theirs.

rdm1 chainspells and begins aeroga/waterga/stonega spam

rdm2 chainspells and begins aeroga/waterga/stonega spam

whm begins spamming cures with his finger on the bene-macro

pld begins spamming cures on mages while meleeing

mnk + nin sling vokes on anything attacking mages while trying to take down the pets (nin on wyvern, mnk on rabbit).

My fellow rdm and I were only able to nuke for ~60-90 dmg but we were hitting 2 pets and 3 mobs at a time and dropping them as fast as Chainspell allows. (60-90 x 5 mobs x 2 rdm = 600-900dmg per spell at Chainspell casting speed.) Eventually the other rdm (Mudvayne) had to convert (he was using his Chainspell more effectively than I was), and he converted but died and shortly.

Next, it was my turn. I luckily had enough mp for blink (not SS though), shouted, "Convert" to the whm, hit my macro and with no blink shadows left, my whm (Granthis) nailed me with a DS Cure!
Just before Chainspell dropped I snapped off a quick SS, then went back to nuke mode. All of us were looking pretty beat up when Granthis popped Benediction, making the fight completely lopsided in our favor at that point.

With about 1/3mp left I dropped an Aeroga and we were rewarded with seeing 3 BCNM mobs simultaneously declare their outrage at being defeated, woot!

If we had zoned out instead of RR after our intial PT wipe, we would have set the record as the whole fight took just slightly longer than the amount of time it takes 2RDM with Chainspell to unload their first mp bar on -ga spells + part of a second at normal speed. ^^

It worked so well despite being a bit underprepared that we are seriously looking at a Chainspell -ga strat for some of the other capped fights vs a crowd of mobs, as opposed to the standard sleep + tank or gravity + kite strategies we've been using.

I am guessing that in a fight where there isn't one huge mob with a ton of HP but rather a group of mobs with a smaller amount of HP ea but the same total HP as the large singular threat, a group of Chainspelling RDM's going -ga crazy could dominate. (Could...make you go -ga-ga..?)
Yes, I make bad puns. :P

PS - My awesome CoP team is:
Zeiram (nin)
Dragora (pld or drk)
Gusgus (mnk)
Granths (whm)
Mudvayne (rdm or drk)
Me (rdm)

Every guide I read says that for Ulmia's path, you go to Kertoto in Windy Waters @ the Rhinostery, and then to Yoran-oran.

Well, I did all the sandy CS's for ulmia, was told to go to windy. I go, I speak to Kertoto, but I don't get the mission CS, I get the CS for Diabolos quest (got the Vial of Dream Insense). Ok, well, figure I'll get the CoP CS after this. Nothing.

I zoned.
Nothing.

I tried a number of hours later.
Nothing.

Anyone have any idea why I can't get the CS? My last CS for the mission was the one in the Sandy cathedral @ the manuscript room.

I had this problem also. I just talked to him a few times without zoning and got the Vial of Dream Essence, and then talked to him again.

I had already cleared Diabolos beforehand, though.

I'm not exactly sure if it will help, but I'd recommend heading back to Cid. When you talk to him in the middle of "Three Paths," he asks you which path you want help on, and then you select which one. He then gives you a brief synopses of your progress through that path so far, and what you should probably do next. The couple of times I couldn't figure out what I was missing next, that's what I did. It seemed to help "re-initialize" the next step.

What you will find here is that you have activated the Diabolos Prime quest which is done by the same NPC and has given you the Vial of Dream Insense key item. To get the cutscene for PM5-3 you need to exit into Port Windurst and reenter again and talk to Kerutoto twice to wake him up and get the cutscene.

This method can be applied to starting all 3 of the paths at once, just exit the metalworks and reenter and talk to Cid to activate each mission until you have all 3 ready, then you can just travel around and get all cutscenes ready at once. ^^

You don't REALLY need to tell Cid you want to start each path to get CS's, just pick one. I was just spamming enter thru all this and didn't even notice i selected an option. Went around the world n got all CS's anyway, no problems at all. :D

Ya, finally figured you need to talked to Kertoto 2-3 times to get the CSs. I'm not almost done with the 3 paths now.

Side note, I got rated down for asking a question? Sheesh..
