Description

Spring is over and it's time for Summerfest!

At this time every year, adventurers gather in the towns to kick back and take a break from their usual daily activities. It is a time for players from all nations to come together and swap tales of their exploits.

However, night is when Summerfest really heats up. The ensuing darkness sets the stage for a grand display of fireworks in the sky and on the ground. Countless bazaars line the streets and music fills the air. Adventurers of all shapes and sizes strike up conversations with complete strangers when not dancing hand in hand with their companions.

The Moogles, as well, have devoted themselves to making this summer a memorable one. Participate in their events to receive wonderful items that will make your Summerfest even more exciting!

Summerfest will be held from Jul. 23 to Aug. 8th, 2004.

Experience the sights and sounds of this summer extravaganza in the following locations (from 19:00 to 6:00, Vana'diel time):

West Ronfaure East Ronfaure Northern San d'Oria Port San d'Oria

North Gustaberg South Gustaberg Bastok Mines Bastok Markets

East Sarutabaruta West Sarutabaruta Windurst Waters Windurst Walls Windurst Woods

Western Altepa Desert Eastern Altepa Desert Rabao

Fireworks will be sold in these areas:

West Ronfaure (G-8) South Gustaberg (J-7) East Sarutabaruta (J-7) Rabao (G-9)

And finally, the Summerfest Moogles will be waiting for you in:

Southern San d'Oria (J-9) Northern San d'Oria (D-8)

Bastok Mines (I-9) Bastok Markets (G-8)

Windurst Woods (K-10) Windurst Waters (F-5)

--

With Summerfest kicking into high gear across various lands, it appears that the merchants have been getting into the festive spirit as well, offering various new items.

Those familiar with the customs of different lands say that the equipment the merchants sell may be of an Eastern origin. Curiously, the goods closely resemble the items used in an event known as Goldfish Scooping.

Goldfish Scooping is a traditional game often played during the summer months. People use fragile "scoops" to skim the water in order to catch as many brilliantly colored goldfish as they can--before the paper on the scoops rips.

Trading goldfish to a merchant will earn you points based on the type of fish you catch. These points can be exchanged for a plethora of exciting Summerfest items.

So if you hear one of these peddlers, you know what to do! Go and give Goldfish Scooping a try! Who knows, you might just get hooked!

The NPCs will be at:

West Ronfaure G-10 South Gustaberg E-8 East Sarutabaruta H-8 Rabao F-7

-About reopening the "Test of Courage" event

The Test of Courage event was brought to a close as the Goldfish Scooping event opened. However, due to the popularity of the event, we have decided to reopen it, and have the event run until the end of Summerfest.

Take your best shot at both events, and above all, have fun!

Test of Courage involved finding a partner of the opposite sex and being sent off to run through high level dungeons as a level 1 character. You had to find the marker to get the key item and then warp home.

It's been 2 years since someone decided to post anything new on summerfest. I can't wait for it again :)
I just want to see the fireworks again.. I knowit won't be the same without my old friends being there... but I think just seeing it one more time then going away for a while is best.

I'm sorry but I'm soo getting rid of my account. Vana diel just isn't what used to be :(

I was there for 04.. and it was unlike anything this game had to offer :) Congrats for that.

Sigh

Wow... most people seem to not want this event for two reasons:

Selfish (ie: want the yukatas to stay rare)

or ignorant (ie: doesn't know they can turn off sound and effects. RTFM)

I for one hope they repeat this one, I started playing a couple days after it ended last year D:

This was my first event and I remeber seeing all thoes "high" level areas as a 20 BLM.

Times have past and my original character is gone and I would love my Yukata back^^

Also my BF has FFXI now and he was not around for this event so it will be something special for us to share.
Best Event

This is by far the best event SE did, i actually had a lot of fun doing this event, and goldfish scooping ^^(although goldfish scooping had cruddy prizes..it was fun) idk what all you guys are talking about, the music, and fireworks where a nice change for a while
I hope this won't happen this year..

I still have a Tome of Whisopers, Snickering Skull, Yhoator Flea, and another rare item that goes along with these.

However, I personally hope this event doesn't happen again. I liked being able to exp low level jobs with a trick staff, yukata, and other event items, and have people not know how I got them... now everyone has a trick staff and pumpkin items, but Yukatas are still much rarer.
NOOOOOOO

Summerfest 2004 started just a few days after I started playing FFXI. I got to see Castle O, CN, Davoi, Beadeaux, and Ranguemont Pass before I ever got my first job to level 10. It was scary as crap, and frustrating since I had maps of none of those places. This time I will not inadvertently zone into Beaudecine and get mauled to death by a tiger or run in circles trying to find the right path in CN or die from multiple Afflictor curses in Beadeaux.^^

I am soooo not looking forward to the lag from the fireworks and the annoying music though.
Hope they recycle this

I love events...and looking at the events so far this year...I hope they recycle again...since their "original" events so far have been less successful than attempts at recycling (staff change?!)

-- Valentione's Day 2005 (SE sent everyone a signature crystal they can't use and suggesting that players sign something decomposing for the one they love with the massive outpouring of twilight crystals, an utterly useless event)

-- Doll Festival 2005 (this was ok, make everyone get into alliances with a bunch of women to get costumes of little girls, a bit annoying to find alliances for though)

-- Egg-Stravaganza 2005 (the event from last year recycled and the combos changed)
um...

This is last years Summerfest guys. As of now no info has been leaked on this years summer event. It probably won't be the same and I'm probably holding on to this Lord's Yukata in vain, /sigh.

uh-huh..... I Think... Logically speaking, Since that was last year... It'd be safe to say the starting date would at least be in this year.. unless youve invented a time machine....
