Summary

Balasiel requires your assistance in constructing a new set of polearm training guidelines for the San d'Orian knights.

Walkthrough

After your Polearm skill is 240+ go talk to Balasiel and he will give you a Spear of Trials.

Like all of the other Weaponskill quests you have 300 points you need to get from doing weaponskills.

  • The weaponskills must be on easy prey mobs or better.

    • Solo-WS or opening any level SC: 1 pt.

    • Close LVL1 SC: 2 pts.

    • Close LVL2 SC: 3 pts.

    • Close LVL3 SC: 5 pts.

    • Total Needed: 300 pts.

After you are finished talk to Balasiel again and he will give you the Map of Truth (Key Item). You are to then go into the Sea Serpent Grotto and spawn the NM, Water Leaper. Before you do this be sure to get the Sahagin Key as you need it to get past the ornamental door. The ornamental door is on the border between (J-10) and (J-11). The ??? to spawn the NM is located on (H-6) on a new map. But you dont have to go very far. Go over the bridge and the ??? will be in the water next to the wall on the right.

Be sure to clear the sahagin and mindgazers that spawn around there. The fight is easy, but can be complicated if there is a link. I did this with 5 people and didn't have much trouble. Setup was PLD SAM WHM BLM and DRG of course. Water Leaper is a fish NM so it will naturally do Screwdriver. It also does two other abilities, Wall of Water and another one which I can't remember. He has a decent amount of HP so the fight lasted about 5-7 minutes.

After you defeat Water Leaper then examine the ??? again. Then go back to Balasiel to learn Impulse Drive.

You have to naturally attain 240 skill before he'll give you the quest. So, cap your polearm skill.

I just beat this NM. We got to ssg and realized our blm/whm logged off. We decided to give it a shot with me as the healer. I wasn't really prepared to main heal as my rdm sub wasn't up to snuff but I gave it a shot. We got past the ornamented door put sneak up and headed for the ???. Our setup was:

75 pld/war (tank)
75 pld/nin
75 mnk/nin
71 drg/rdm (me)

We cleared the area just incase we pulled a link then popped it. The evasion on this thing was insane. I am an acc *****. The only piece of armor I didn't have on me that rounded out my acc+ gear is an Ohat. I ate sushi (i didn't have pies or juices on me) and I still couldnt hit the damn thing. Anyway everything seemed ok until around 50% hp. The pld started to get pummeled really bad and I was running out of mp. Everyone 2hred (except for me, i didn't want to lose the only healer we had) and brought it down to about 10% hp. I was out of mp by this time and the pld took a screwdriver and fell. We managed to kill the NM with only one death (sorry warheit ; ;). If everyone wasn't as skilled at their job as they were we wouldn't have made it. Overall it was a fun fight. We even had a hecteye pop in the middle of the brawl which added to the confusion. Moral of the story is... have a healer or if you want to go with a drg/mage, make sure you bring pies and drinks.
New to the last WS

I'm sort of new to the whole last weapon skill thing. Will i have to keep track of how many points i earn from mobs, or is there some kind of system to help me?

I lvled with my NPC and she and I did
Penta Thrust->Skewer
Thunder Thrust->Wheeling Thrust
Vorpal Thrust->Skewer

I got rid of the latent in about four days. I called my npc about 6~7 times and we were lvling off ep Chamber Beetles, Eles, and Pots in Garlaige Basement :P Took about 4 days of 3~4hour sessions each.

This WS is fun to do :o

I received the Spear of Trials and went to Davoi for some coffer key hunting(which is a pain). Anyway, Viktor and I did Tachi: Gekko --> Wheeling Thrust for Fusion for the most part, within four hours I had it. The next night some of my friends and travelled to SSG for the NM. Party setup was:

Gideon - 75 RDM/NIN
Byrthnoth - 65 RDM/BLM
Rale(me) - 72 DRG/WHM
Viktor - 75 SAM/NIN
Darmist - 75 DRK/THF

Easy fight. I pulled, Spirit Surged and Jumped to lower defense. Viktor then 2-houred and self-Light skillchained. Afterwards Darmist followed up with SATA Spiral Hell, and I threw in a few Wheeling Thrusts during the fight. Viktor got into yellow a few times; that was it. Good luck!

to do this you will need 1x gold beast coin 3x mythril beast coin 1x norg shell 1 silver beast coin. also remember after talking to gimb and norg, you CAN NOT leave SSG while doing this quest.

1st. talk to gimb in norg
2nd. head to the gold beast coin door in SSG. proceed through it to the npc sahagin "Bou the Righteous : H-11". vi think you need to drop at f-9 to get to him
3rd. proceed to the silver coin door. drop at hi8 to lower lvl and head northward to a hidden door. there you will find "Hurr the Betrayer : H-3" talk to him then trade him the 3 mythril coins and norg shell. grats, you now have your key.

the key is one time use and you cannot re-open the door from the other side. so plan a means of escape unless you wanna fight some true sight nm's.

to get the key again you only need to goto hurr and trade 1x gold beast coin and norgshell

from what ive seen you dont need multiple beastcoins to get through the doors. after i traded the mythril i got it back and the door opened from then on (as long as i hadnt zoned). but id suggest trying it first, could be a fluke

Latent wasn't too hard for me, actually. I went with a 75BLM using club and a 73WHM also using club.

Skullbreaker-> Vorpal Thrust (Frag)-> Hexa Strike. The WHM would get 5 points for closing light, and I would get 3 for closing a lv2 and 3 for opening the lv3, for a total of 6. This benefited us both, luckily. An hour later we were at Ro'Maeve beating a pot to oblivion for her Black Halo- lol. Impulse Drive NM today! ^_^

It dosent take too long to get rid of the laitent effect if you take the lance with you to a good exp party, the laitent should be gone by the time the party is over. By the time I lvld the laitent was gone.

It took me 3 hrs to break latent. Group of 3 went to beaduex for key drop. PLD, DRG, BLM. PLD would do savage blade and I would close with wheeling thrust. Takes about 60 ws for 300 points. Our biggest problem was, that we would run out of mobs and have to wait for pop.
Sounds a little tough...

Never done this quest yet, kind of sounds a little tough... I think the hardest part will be getting the 300 WS points... But this was very usfull info because everyone I asked in the game no one could give me a 100% answere on how to really get it now I know, thanks.

The fastest way to finish this quest is to get a THF and do Shark Bite->Wheeling Thrust. I did that and got rid of my Spear Of Trials in 2 days.

I guess if you are drg. I am doing this as warrior. So wheeling thrust isn't possible.

it took 48 hours?
oviously no.. if you wanna say how long it took, just say how many hours. Then it might actually give people the idea of the approximate time it will take. 48 hours doesn't sound like you did it with the 'fastest way'.

I've done a few of these so far.. Savage Blade for two people, Asuran fists for one person, and Empyrial Arrow and Detonator for myself. It really depends how you do it. With the MNK, Wheeling Thrust > Dragon Kick on anything EP to him in Garlaige Citadel took about 2 hours for the latent to be removed. :) But if you're stuck doing a level 2, it takes a bit longer (~4 hours for one of the Savage Blades, including some relocation). I did Detonator with mostly level 1s and level 2s, with some 3s at the end, and that took about 6-8 hours, but we weren't doing it seriosuly.

If you can, shoot to close a level 3, but level 2 works fine. Always close.
