In-Game Text

Description

You will need to be at least level 71 and have a minimum Dagger skill of 230.

The Chieftaness has come up with a deadly new dagger technique, but needs you to help her devise a way of dodging it. However, you must first complete your training.

You need to earn 300 points using the Dagger of Trials as your main weapon.

Solo-WS or opening any level SC: 1 pt.

Close LVL1 SC: 2 pt.

Close LVL2 SC: 3 pt.

Close LVL3 SC: 5 pt.

- Total Needed: 300 pt.

-

After this is completed, head back to Jakoh Wahcondalo in Kazham and turn in your Dagger of Trials. You will receive the Map to the Annals of Truth, required to spawn the WSNM. Next, head to Gustav Tunnel and at (J-8) investigate the ??? (it's on the 2nd map). Fight the NM bat (Baronial Bat) when it appears and then check the ??? again to receive your Writing of Trial. If more than one person in party have the quest active and need to kill this NM, you only have to spawn it once; everyone gets the key item after clicking the ???.

Return to Jakoh back in Kazham to complete the quest.

WS points during campaign
# Jan 02 2010 at 12:38 PM Rating: Default
The guide on wiki says that you cannot obtain WS points during campaign battle. Does this mean in any area where there is a campaign battle being fought? or only if you are taking part in campaign (with tags on)?

I've been killing bugs in jugner S for aaages and haven't broke it yet. I'm thinking i've been wasting my time as there's been a campaign in the area most of the time.

Any info?

You just can't get the points with tags on, I broke several weapons on the ladybugs in jugner area. Just make sure the mobs are EP or higher.

DO NOT TALK TO HER AFTER YOU HAVE BROKEN THE LATENT. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT!

If you do accidentally click on her while trading or targeting, exit out of the screen immediately. If you don't you'll be stuck redoing 300 points all over again. People have posted this several times, but it needs to be part of the guide, truly.

Only trade the dagger to her, do nothing else.

GMs will NOT do anything about this quest if you hit the glitch any longer. If you hit it, you will be starting over, regardless of how much you complain and discuss the issue with a GM.

I've submitted for a change to the phrasing of the quest portion regarding the action to take after the latent is off. Hope they change it for posterity's sake.

Well, after many hours of duo weaponskills, I finally broke the dagger and headed to Jahko. Got the annals and headed for Gustav Tunnel. Fight was relatively simple with 2x NIN, RDM, WHM and BRD. Evisceration is nice to have as a brd instead of using low damage weaponskills like Cyclone and Gust Slash. And from reading other posts, I agree that this WS is based on Str. I compared it with /whm (with mage gear) and /nin (with str+ gear) and it indeed makes a difference. Well, that's it.

Just hit 71 with THF and have 251 dagger skill and not able to get this quest. Jakoh Wahcondalo just talks about the Temple of Uggalepih and then nothing. Any help would be cool, Thx.

The only requirements are that you have 230 in Dagger and level 71, a job that can equip the dagger.. and.. You MUST have a dagger/knife/kukri equipped when talking to the NPC; that is all.

I believe its based on fame too. If you don't have the fame for it in Kazham then you can't do it. Although, if you are able to get Tuning Fork of Fire in Kazham for Ifrit fight then I see no reason why you can't do this quest. If you don't have the fame I suggest doing the quest in Windurst where you trade in Yagudo Bead Necklaces as they are easily farmed in Giddeus.

okay, so i got dagger at 230 yet Jakoh wont give me my dagger of trials.. did i do something wrong? btw, i used some merit points to increase my dagger at 230.. maybe that's what i did wrong.. well, i would like to know quickly so i dont waste too much time waiting around for skill-up parties.

You need to get your base skill lvl upto 230, your merits are just like +skill gear. So i'm sorry to say that you have to get into those skillup pts.

That's the thing, I dont have any other Trial Quest open.

------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. Merit points only bring up max skill points, not the base points.

Ex: dagger skill = 228

Use one merit to bring up dagger skill points by 2

Dagger skill = 230 (max) but still is at 228.

Just did this duo.

75Thief / NIN
75White Mage / BLM

Was pretty easy, sneak, flee. Pulled it back to the second cave area.(Where there isn't a Robber Crab) Fight took over 5 minutes, don't know for sure but Flee was back up to get the item. He hit me 2 times, He'll miss a decent ammount if you've got decent evasion gear. I only had SH, Eva Torq, Scouters, Dance Shoes, O Hat, and War Gloves +1 on for Evasion and I did fine. WHM Rested when he wasn't Erasing / Flashing. We opened with 300TP Hexa -> Shark Bite. Fun fight.

# Sep 29 2006 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
Just soloed this 75RDM/37NIN via DoT/kite method.

Basically the hardest part is pulling it away from the high level area. Personally, I recommend pulling it in stages, because the first time I tried I lost aggro and had to repop. The second time Lv70 gilsellers claimed it while I was sleeping the too weak bat links on the way to the Cape Terrigan zone line. The third time was successful of course when noone messed with the NM.

Make sure you sleep the too weak bats instead of training them because while they themselves don't hit too hard, they do strip your shadows which can leave you naked to the NM which hits really hard (250-400 a hit iirc). Sleep them then run to the Cape Terrigan zone to loose aggro from the links.

There is a small tunnel right before the exit to Terrigan (literally right next to the zone) with some bats down in the "hole" of the tunnel. But it's a pretty decent kite area to bind poison2/bio2.

One thing that kinda suprised me, which I didn't notice while soloing the Blade: Ku crab NM, is that when I rezoned into Gustav Tunnel and just got 'near' the bat, it automatically turned red just from me getting semi-near it.

Anyways, the fight took somewhere around 40mins, and I didn't have too many problems. Again the hardest part was getting the NM to the low level area so I wouldn't get aggro from kiting.

While I haven't played with the WS much, it does seem to be consistantly stronger than savage blade @100TP (about 60-70dmg). Also, I didn't notice much difference between 100TP and 300TP since the weaponskill has been updated to TP%>Crit hit%. Personally, I don't see myself using dagger main hand for Evisceration unless a mob is aspirable (energy drain), as Joyeuse and Genbu's shield is a really nice DoT/damage reduction set.

My first high-level job being Samurai, I have come to appreciate all manner of WS's. Not only for the damage and hate distribution, but for the skillchain potetial (not always a factor in 65-75 parties, as many go w/o BLM and have a solo-WS setup). As with any WS, Evisceration has it's benefits:

1. Opening or closing a Darkness skillchain.

2. At 200+ tp, very good damage.

3. Only dagger WS to open Distortion for the overly-used Rampage closer.

A few hopefully useful notes;
This is a STR based ws, I.e. A: It will do about the same damage to an IT as it would an easy prey; and B: This WS is not for everyone. As an Elvaan with a few STR merits, a DM earring, and other gear that builds on my Elvvan STR, this will benefit me more than say a Mithra who's all DEX'd out. So if you're solo'ing/ duo'ing DC-T, Dancing Edge is the obvious choice, as well if you have more attack and DEX than STR. But if you're doing an HLNM where beforehand your group sits around picking up tp from weaker mobs or an Opo-opo necklace and some sleep potions, this is a great way to start off your tank with some nice damage hate.

Ok so my BRD is 73, and I just capped out my Dagger and can get this quest now.
My question though is this.
My NIN is 74, (thus capped at 227 skill), can I get the WS points on NIN once the quest is flagged on BRD? or does my unmodified skill need to be above 230 to get the WS points?

you should be able to get it with a job that has 230 skill and take the latent off with any job that can use the dagger..

you can also kill the WSNM as any job

Basically, they just have to check as Easy Prey or above, no matter the negatives or positives of strength, defense, whatever.

They must've upped the ante on this mob: The tank for my set-up was my 75NIN friend with excellent evasive gear, yet the bat missed less often than what on this page implies.

Just don't go in expecting this to be a joke of a fight, it has massive HP and there's plenty of time for something to go wrong, which a mistake will more than likely spell death for a duo.

I suggest taking the safer approach (though getting candidates to help may be a bit difficult unless you have connections) and carry along a NIN, WHM, a refresher, and a few DD.

As for the WHM bit, I don't mean take a RDM instead. I mean take a WHM. No matter how good your tank is, the cooldown timers for both Ichi and Ni will at least once coincide, and your tank WILL get hit pretty hard, as cited above. The WHM in my group had to throw a few last minute Cure 5s on our tank, and to be quite honest, even with the larger MP pool, a RDM may have not kept our NIN alive as well.

If you should remember anything from my lengthy post: don't underestimate this mob.

Just because a 75THF/NIN can solo this it doesn't mean it's a walk in the park.

Set up was
68 blm
70 rdm
72 thf
75 thf
70 rng

Wasn't even a little hard. In fact the skeletons in the room are 2x harder then this bat. I was the 72 thf needing Evisceration. I planted hate on the 75 thf, and it's HP actually went down very quickly. I wouldn't sweat these ws mobs. Pretty typical type leveling mobs if you are 70.

Just finished this little bitty off. For those curious, just trade the dagger back to the mithra in Kazzy after it's cleaned without talking to her, no glitch scare that way.

Anyway, the fight is... well pretty easy with a NIN I would guess. Gave it a try with 71thf(me), 74pld, 74smn/whm, and 74sam/rng. Even with all the smn buffs Baronial started pounding the pld. The pld's hp started getting low so Retro my sam started tagging Sidewinders and ended up face down. We tried again when a 75whm joined the fun and it was no problem, just a bit lengthy. I would recommend a Nin tank if your a tad shy on the healing.

The ??? is at G-8 past Wyvernpoacher.
I love it.

I finished off getting the WS today. Being careful not to talk to Jakoh before trading and accidently activating the glitch, I began the next part of the quest in Gustav. We had seven members... THF/NIN/NIN/WAR/WHM/WHM/RDM. The warrior and I focused on skillchaining Light as the others did their jobs. The bat had a rather high evasion, so eating +accuracy food before hand would be a good idea if you're trying to do it perfectly. The fight itself took around 5 minutes, I believe. We got off three skillchains on it (Light - Distortion - Light). After that, it was finally dead and we rushed on over to the ???. I've never been more satisfied with a quest reward... Evisceration is very nice. I hope you have a good time with the quest.

does anyone know if energy steal/drain count as a WS towards the latent? i would assume they do but the description of what counts makes it a little vague in that respect.

They cannot be chained, so both Energy Drain and Energy Steal count as a single point towards your total. I used this a lot while removing the latent on my dagger for RDM.

Dancing Edge is more powerful than Evisceration anyway.

If you have another job leveled, say Rdm, and get Evisceration, you learn it as THF at Lv 67, earlier than a normal THF. That's why the skill requirement is low.

I was under the impression THF's didn't have to fight Maat in the conventional sense anyway. However I'm not a THF, so its entirely possible I'm wrong.
RE: < i don't understand. >
# Jan 07 2007 at 11:34 PM Rating: Decent
You're right, THF's don't have to fight Maat like say, I do as a Ranger. All they have to do is go in there and steal something from him, but it's a pretty much one shot deal. If they are /lucky/ they might be able to stay alive for 5 minutes and get a second chance at steal, but that's a big IF. They don't have it nearly as hard as some of the other jobs that go up against Maat.

Er, You HAVE to trade her the finished dagger to even be able to fight the NM. But if you talk to her without trading, you're given a dialouge option to quit the quest or not, which cancels the points. Your LS friend probably chose that on accident.
