Well easy for me ^^ I'm Black Mage with alliance to Windy [S] so all I need to do is set HP to Bastock, buy cornetts, Retrace to Windy and use maw in Saru and bam...^^ might be faster though with friend but if you can't get anyone to help then this is def a next best thing

Bastok has to be in First or Second place in conquest to be able to buy them. If Bastok is in Third, you just have to wait until they move up a spot or two in order to buy the cornettes.

Thanks awesome. Better then what I thought of doing. I was goin to craft them all but I didnt know I needed 250...
If I did craft them all it would have cost:

250 cornettes:
21 stacks of wind crystas @ ~1500 gil = 31500
21 stacks of Bone ingots @ ~3000 gil = 63000
21 stacks of Brass ingots @ ~13000 gil = 273000

I doubt even if I sold all the +1 and +2s I get I would come out anywhere near even.

For 5 levels of fame... Very much worth it ^^

Only problem with this quest is it requires Lastok to get out of 3rd place for a week... Which seems to be very rare on my server...

Here's my story with trading Cornettes.

I've been holding of on this for a while because, well, to me it's borning, however, I got nearly all my Windy Fame out of the way in one swoop.

Ideally to make this go as smooth as possible you want a couple of things;

#1 Remember Bastok has to be in 1st or 2nd
#2 Gobbie Bag quests done. (It's not completely nessesary, but will make life easier)
#3 Have a friend in Bastok who's willing to send you cornettes. (again, not completely nessesary but very handy ... I myself had to use a mule back and fourth).
#4 Use the trade macro. My god this will save you a lot of time. It's listed below, but to make it easier, here it is again;

/targetnpc
/item "Cornette" <t>

I had Rank 1 Windy fame. Traded about 190 Cornettes and now have rank 8 Windy fame. With Bastok in second place it costed me about 50gil per cornette so about 10k for 190.

Good Luck!
how many cornettes till you get to the center?

God....all this about the guild prices going up/down meaning you are loosing fame............IDIOTS.

Understand that if you buy 200 items on a day, the next day the price is inflated automatically. if no one buys that item the next day, the price goes down.

People who check their norg fame by checking rice ball prices are ******* morons.

# Jan 16 2007 at 2:51 PM Rating: Decent
Umm... nobody [normally] buys Rice Balls (they do if they are synthisizing) *but this is rare on Sylph... we dont have very many "Craftmasters" so demand remains high which is why synthisis only Items cost 3-10M for the Very High synths* [and now for my point] Even though you are correct about the inflation and how it greatly varies prices. fame is also a factor... if you are fame 10 in norg; those rice balls wont cost you any more than 150 even if demand happens to be high... [at fame 0 it can vary from 166-140 depending on demand]

However, you are very correct that checking the rice ball price isnt very accurate if you are trying to see when you can accept the quest for Utsusemi; unless nobody has bought a single one in a day (earth time).

Ya, uhm, putting everything in bold doesn't make you correct.

The NPC that sells rice balls is a regular merchant, not a guild merchant. Guild prices (as of this post) are the only prices that fluctuate based on previous purchases. All other prices remain the same. Instead of making yourself look incredibly stupid, maybe you should think before you post.

nope, rice ball price is purely affected by fame, having had to do the quest myself (and looking up all the other results) fame basically always corresponds with the price of the rice ball. It may fluctuate, but if anything it's only by 2-5, maybe 10 at most gil a day, I highly doubt 10 though, I had to have it do (I think it was around this anyway) 150 before I qualified for Utsusemi: Ichi, and trust me, I tried every chance I got before, just to avoid any necklaces I didn't have to get >< lol

Even easier ways:

WHM FTW
Citizens of Windurst - Set HP in Bastok. Buy cornettes. Teleport-Vazhl => Outpost Warp. (Requires lvl 42+ WHM, with Vazhl scroll and tele crystal, and supplies quest in Vazhl)

Non-Citizens of Windy - Set HP in Windy. Teleport Altep +> Run to Korroloka Tunnel. Cast Escape. This will take to to Zeruhn, scant feet from Bastok Mines. Buy cornettes, Warp back. (Requires lvl 58+ WHM with Altep scroll and crystal, and BLM subjob, or a 72+ blm/whm)

Empty All gear in Mog House. Pick up Coronets at the music shop, OP warp to West Sarutabaruta. Drop Coronets off at NPC at Windurst Walls. Warp back!

i just started windy fame a couple days ago for tele mea and to start norg fame for utsu.

it took exactly 30 quests and a handfull of repeats to get teh tele dem quest.

in windy i just finally got teh tele mea quest after 27 quests( including ones that had me running my a55 off to mhura and sandoria) and about 25 bead quest repeats, 33 cornette repeats, and a handfull of other repeats.

simply put, I HATE FAME!!!!!

running back and forth to npcs hoping you have enough fame just to get quests so you can complete and hope you have fame for the next one on the list.... i wish there was a chronologial list for quests, it would cut down on the time it takes by at least HALF^^

RE: I HATE FAME!!

Somewhere/Someone toldme that the repeteable quests give more fame the 1st time you do it, then when you repeat them, you get just a little ammount of fame.

Quote:
The way I "dealt with" fame was to do quests as I went through the levels. It's a lot easier to do them when you're just starting out then when you're a higher level and have a zillion things to do. Plus, I just think it's more fun to do them as you go along, and try to enjoy it.

I totally agree with that. The game is designed in a way that the 1st stuff you do (fame/crafting/missions/etc.) is easy and require a few lvls or no lvls at all. Each time you get higher lvls of fame/craft/rank/etc. you are asked to do harder stuff and then you require higher lvl.

In resume, if you do quests/craft/rank/etc. as you lvl, makes the game more enjoyable.

I am SO glad to see someone post this.

I'm one of the few people I know of that never did fame boosting through repeatables. I have hero fame in San d'Oria, Windurst and Jeuno, level 7 fame in Bastok (but would have hero fame if I'd get off my lazy butt and clean up some quests in my log), was able to accept and complete all my teleport quests, and enough Norg fame that I accepted and completed two ninja scroll quests. How much did it cost me? What did I have to do? Nothing. I just did my regular quests and played the game in whole as intended. You don't have to cheat or do repeatables to boost your fame.

Want to max your fame? Simple, just do all your quests.

If by "bead quests" you mean turning in Yagudo Bead Necklaces to Nana Mihgo, that quest is for Tenshodo fame, not Windurst.

The way I "dealt with" fame was to do quests as I went through the levels. It's a lot easier to do them when you're just starting out then when you're a higher level and have a zillion things to do. Plus, I just think it's more fun to do them as you go along, and try to enjoy it.

Now that I'm trying to raise fame a bit on some of my mules, I can see why people who wait dislike it so much.

If you are trying to level Windurst fame by trading Cornette's, here's a tip:

1) Buy all your Cornettes from the NPC in Bastok Markets, and head to Yoran-Oran in Windurst Walls.
2) Create a macro as shown below:
/targetnpc
/item "Cornette" <t>

3) Hit this macro until you get errors (this is when you have run out of Cornettes in your inventory)

Presto. This is so much easier than selecting the item out of your inventory each time. Using this method, I was finally able to get enough fame for the Ramuh and Ifrit avatar fights. I wish I would've known I could do this before...

This is the most helpful post I've EVER seen on this site. That macro really shaves off a few eternity's in the already eternally hellish fame raising... hell.

Also, before I found out I could trade cornette's I was trading 1 bastore sardine at a time to a Taru on the docks of the fishing guild, and zoning.. then coming back to do it again. After about 4 YEARS of this, I went to check my fame in Windy waters, still no fame. Then I checked the forums here and WALLA!

If you trade 50 Cornettes, you'll have ~2 levels of fame so :

8 level / 2 * 50 * 253 Gil (if you have fame 1 in bastok)
Total needed : 50'600 Gil

Getting back : 40'000 Gil

This does not lower any other fame.

It might not lower fame, HOWEVER, it does affect prices.

my fame didn't go down in Bastok or San d'Oria by doing this quest, HOWEVER, my prices did increase (in both i started w/ max fame). Distilled water at Inns went from 10g to 11g, and the Chocobo Bedding and Cosmettics Kit (at Sandy and Bastok respectively) went from 1800 > 1840 gil.

your math seems off,
during the xmas event, i used the warp function of the moogle to move my sandy mule to windy to get fame, (gonna get him to jeuno eventully for gobbie bags)

i did exactly 2 quests, first i did the moghouse exit quest (i'm lazy, and windy is too big)
and then proceded to do mule over cornettes.

spend like 5 hours doing it, but i did it all solo.

buy from store, walk to AH, send 8, log to mule, take 8, log to main, send 8,.... you see where this could take time.

after each load of 30, i checked fame guy,
+1 level after each load of 30.

i have neer max bastok fame, so i was paying 224 each (min is 212) and was getting 200 back.

Ok, well, Bastok fame is still at lvl 5 after the 4th run, and Windy fame is now maxed. So if the quest affects Bastok fame, it is minimal and well worth the tradeoff.

4 runs @ 39 Cornettes per run = Windy fame rise from lvl 4 to 9.

To my understanding shop items vary like chocobos, the more you buy from the shop the higher the price rises... so by bying all the Cornettes from the shop over and over the price rises.

I thought this was true only for guild shops too, but nevertheless, the price rose for me too. I bought a couple dozen with my main character, got a tele to Windy, bought a bunch more with my mule and sent them to my main, and then warped back to Bastok and checked price again with my main char. Either A) my fame in Bastok decreased as a result of turning them in, or B) the price increased for my main character because "someone else" (my mule) bought a bunch. Will check fame and edit.

The easiest way to do this is to create or run your mule over to Bastok Markets, buy them, and send them to your mog at Windurst Walls. This will save you a lot of time chocoing back and forth. For a level 1 fame mule the cornettes go for 253gil. If what the post below says is accurate and you do get 2 levels of fame for every 50 cornettes you turn in then you will only need 12k to get you max fame in windy. Good luck.

The way i'm doing this is with blm sub with Warp. You set your HP in windurst, fly from windurst to jeuno, then jeuno to bastok (If rank 5). This costs 400g in flights, then you warp back to windy. Do the discerning eye quest in Windurst flight, and thats a 100g profit per run. That helps towards your cornettes :D.

Hi,

Just wanted to give y'all some feedback on the amount of fame I received by repeating this quest (see http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/fame.php#Windurst_Related for more details). When I started, I was at level 4. Traded in 50 cornettes, moved to level 5 :( Traded in 50 more cornettes, moved to level 7 :) Traded in another 50, moved to level 9, hero time :D

Dunno if I could have gotten away with a few less cornettes, but the progression seems to indicate 50 cornettes = about 2 levels of fame. The first one might have been a situation where I was at the very beginning of level 4 and moved to the very end of level 5. At any rate, hope this helps all you fame whores out a bit - good luck!

If you have level 9 fame in Bastok, you can buy Cornettes from the Bard shop for 219 gil, and trade them to this npc for 200 gil. All in all, that's a great way to get fame in Windurst quickly so you can get avatar quests or what have you. If you don't have level 9 fame in Bastok, I'm not sure how much the cornettes would cost, but it still would not be much gil loss for the fame you get. Getting level 9 fame in Bastok isn't that bad either if you have the money, just trade Moss to the old man in Selbina^^

I've been looking for a way to raise my Windurst fame. Great tip, thanks!

I'm Bastok Rank 9, on Ragnarok, and Bastok has been in third place for like..... months on our server.

Harmodios has the item, for 219 gil, and I bought as many as I could hold in my inventory.

Was it necessary to accuse the previous poster of lying?

I checked to see which merchants sold the cornette unfortunatly this site i checked didnt list them:
http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/itemdb/display-item.php?item=1671

then i checked what Harmodios sold and he sold a flute:
http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/npcdb/display-npc.php?npc=862

which is of a similar item, people can get confused, I myself checked with Harmodios and can confirm that he does not sell cornettes ;/ I dont think it has anything to do with what place bastok is in. Any Suggestions?

Hallo. My first post ever. In fact Harmodios DOES sell cornettes. I am Phoenix server. Bastok was #2 and cornettes were available. To-day they slipped to #3 and cornettes gone along with most of the bard songs. So try again X. Good luck.
