this fight is really difficult, however when you loose the fight, you still get to keep your hat, so the only thing you loose is exp and your pride.

we did it this morning.

first time we popped it we were really clueless. we had decided to try and fight them 1 by 1 and kill the percepter last, but that stratedgy didnt work well for us. about 5 seconds in the Grimograk (BLM) gob did sleepaga, and they picked us off 1 by 1. Also we had fought them right where they spawn at, which i can tell you right now, is a bad idea, it was hella laggy.

second time we fought them we dicided to fight them in the cave, just down from where they spawn to avoid mass lag, and also try to lure the perceptor away from the Bugbears. Unfortantly we screwed up and the bugbears aggroed the tankers, but fighting in the tunnel was a good idea, no lag their.

We did about 3 astral flows, and lots of TP moves on the perceptor. Hes got a good amount of HP, even more then the rest of the group. The bugbears i would say have the least amount of HP, and are in fast fairly easy, maybe like easy prey to level 75....they dont hit all that hard either. only problem is their is 4 of them, and they all his the same person it can hurt.(like 50 dmg a hit per bugbear on a whm)

we had about 15 people, and we killed the percepter with about 4 people still alive, so we bearly made it, all people were level 75. defintly a good idea to have some kinda of stratedgy for this.

my suggestion for a stratedy would have a tanker Kyte the Goblin Percepter all around oldton Movalpolos, while the rest of teh group kills the bugbears, then after theyr all dead, get the tank/kyter to swing by the ground, and when the percepter comes buy, have the group grab it. But make sure the kyter runs his *** to a zone, kyting all around that place make a huge train.

also, the 3 goblins use 2 hour abilitys, just for a heads up

You guys think a group of lvl 65+ BST's could take the NM's?

Theory: Send pets in on Gob Preceptor... they get hate from all mobs. BST's run in and chop Preceptor up while our pets take massive damage!! Preceptor dies, BST's win again!!

Are you able to have multiple of these beastmen helm quests open at the same time? I ended up accepting the Orc one in Monastic Cavern but I'd rather get the Goblin one or the Yagudo one first. I tried zoning into the Altar Room but no CS.

I did the Yagudo one...after i finished it and beat the NM for my HQ version hat, I tried to do the orc one..no luck...then the gobbie one...still no cs, so I assumed you could only do one hat.

HOWEVER, many months after I zoned into Oldton on my way to lvl my NPC and I got this cs. So I guess after you beat the NM for one hat after some time (who knows how long) you are then able to do another.

Edit: Here's how I did it:

I finished my Yagudo hat quest and it was marked completed in my log. BUT, it's not really completed till you zone back into 'the zone' again. (the zone being whatever zone the beastmen hat quest you're doing is in.) It is not considered properly over until you've gotten your gold beastcoin.

I finished the hat quest prior to the conquest tally (11am est DST for me) but I didn't get the coin until after that.

Once you have your coin it is either a 24 hr wait OR waiting till midnight JST OR waiting for the next Vana'diel day. (I say OR because I'm not sure, two days had actually passed, but since the game doesn't use a 48 hr clock for anything, I'm willing to bet it was one of thsoe). If someone can confirm one of those, it would be wonderful.

After some time has elapsed you may go and get a different hat quest. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TOSS THE HQ HAT FROM THE FIRST QUEST.

I have zoned in BOTH zones multiple times to no avail...

I was one of the first people to get the goblin and choplix coif thanks to this post.
Here
Quote:
You have to go to the most eastern entrance of Oldton Movapolos in North Gustaberg (K-6). There you get a quest from a Quadav Gu'Zho the Thunderblade. Next, go to the Leather guild in South San d'Oria and trade the guild master a Buffalo Hide, Sheep Leather and 20000Gil. At 0:00 it is possible to get a recipie for Goblin Coif and Goblin Cutting. Then you have to have someone synth the coif for you. The inredients ares: Goblin Cutting
Steel Sheet
Linen Cloth
Artificial Lens x2
Moblin Thread
Undead Skin
Sheep Leather

To finish the quest, equip the Goblin Coif and go to (G-8) of Oldton Movapolos and some NMs appear.

NM : Goblin Preceptor (RDM) / Grimoire Guru Grimogek (BLM) / Dread Dealing Dredodak (DRK) / Bugbear Porterman x4

The item you recieve for completeling the quest is a RARE/EX item called Choplix's Coif. It is identical in appearence to Goblin Coif, but is Lv. 75 and has:

# Resist vs. Fire +10
# Resist vs. Ice +10
# Resist vs. Wind +10
# Resist vs. Earth +10
# Resist vs. Lightning +10
# Resist vs. Water +10
# Resist vs. Light -50
# Resist vs. Dark +10
# Enchantment: Calls Choplix (20hr recast)

There is no real HQ. The 'HQ' would be what you do for beating the quest. You synth this and need to wear it for quest. You cannot synth a HQ. But, if anybody who synths it for you fails, that "If you fail I'll eat you" thing may be true... :/....^^

Okay, we beat this fight with a team of 11 x 75ish, however now that we know the strategy it could have been done with less I think.

Pld or other non-blink tank should attack the Goblin preceptor, hold hate on preceptor, this will cause all the other goblins (not bugbears) to attack him as well. Melee's kill Grim-whatever blm gob, then other goblin, then all the bugbears, then the preceptor. Seemed to work the best that way.

I don't know if the mobs dissapear if the preceptor dies first, and after we killed the two helper gobs, we could have probably skipped the bugbears and just killed the Preceptor, but we went ahead and mopped up the bugbears first.

The preceptor doesn't hit hard (only about 50-80 w/defense max gear), and all the other gobs hit for less. With the number of mobs swinging at the tank, its probably best for a defense based tank rather than a blink based tank.

Multiple sleepers is important, seems like Sleep stuck better than lullaby.
Holy Hell!

For this quest (so far), zone into Oldton Movalpolos and get a cutscene from Gu'Zho Thuderblade. He will begin the quest. He wants you to take a letter to a box found on a platform at (G-8) in Oldton Movalpolos but you'll need a disguise to do this. Collect a buffalo hide and sheep leather and take them to Faulpie in the Tanners guild in South Sand'ora. Pay her 20,000 gil and wait. Return and receive the Goblin Cutting.

Now find another player with the required craft skills to make you a Goblin Coif. Once you have this item, equip it and return to Oldton Movalpolos where you first met Gu'Zho Thuderblade. He will treat you to another cutscene then give you a key item (Goblin Recommendation Letter). Take this key item to the Iron Box at (G-8) in Oldton Movalpolos. Get ready before you check the Iron Box. Clear the area of links. There will be a cutscene then a fight immediately following.

***Important! Be prepared to fight a horde of Monsters!!***

4 x Bugbear Portermen (diversions)
(The following were likely 2 blms and a rdm, not sure though)
Grimoire Guru Grimogek
Goblin Preceptor
Dread Dealing Dredoda

I conned a couple of them and they were Impossible to Gauge, so it seems they may all be Notorious Monsters (or just 3NMs and 4 regular monsters). The Preceptor resisted being slept by a level 75 redmage three times so kill it first.

A friend and I just were absolutely slaughtered since we were unprepared and wearing level 1 gear. Good luck to everyone else. You may want a full party for this.
