Summary

A friend of Luto has used a magical costume kit to change into a child, but now he can't return to his original form. Luto wants you to help find a way to change him back.

Walkthrough

Part 02 of The Fellowship Quest

Speak to Luto Mewrilah in Upper Jeuno to start the quest.

After you have finished the cutscene with Luto, speak with Bheem again at the zone to Batallia Downs in Upper Jeuno. You will get another cutscene when you speak to him.

Next enter Eldieme Necropolis from the (G-8) entrance in Batallia Downs. There will be a ??? spot near then zone that will start a cutscene with the NPC that you picked from the list and the little girl that you learned about in the cutscene with Luto. When the cutscene ends it will spawn a skeleton type NM named Namorodo.

Once you defeat Namorodo, speak to your fellow quickly before he/she despawns otherwise you will have to redo the battle. Your fellow will advise you that they will see the little girl back to Jeuno safely.

Now that Namorodo has been dispatched, and the little girl is back safe in Jeuno head back to Upper Jeuno and speak to Luto Mewrilah again for the final cutscene in this quest. If you have enough fame to start the next quest you will need to zone out and back in to Upper Jeuno to be able to get the next quest.

Let me start by saying that my Charm gear was nothing really special. Loyalty Ring, Hope Ring, Flower Necklace, Entrancing Ribbon, Corsette, and Barbaroi Axe (which I also used for fighting.)

Entered Eldieme, Gazer was right at the bottom of the steps. Mischarmed on my first try, but it responded to Tame, and I successfully Charmed it on the second try. Hit Familiar to ensure it would stay with me, then hauled it down to the ???.

The NM was a joke. Namorodo's ice spikes were the only damage I took. The Gazer hit for between 110-140, and I was hitting between 30-40, no food. I didn't notice my companion's damage output.

Long story short, for you Beastmasters out there, Charm the Gazer. It will be your friend.
PLD/WAR can take him easy

Hello!

Thought I'd give the Rangers out there some hope. I only had Ranger at level 32 and no gear for 30 war and was thinking "I'll never beat it. Undead take 1/4 dmg from piercing...". Feeling suicidal I grabbed some holy bolts and ate a Goblin Mushpot (MND +10). I was amazed that I actually beat the guy, and still had 50% HP. So have at him fellow Rangers!

The main problem in this fight isn't the NM itself, it's the Gazer that spawns close to it. The ones that spawned varied from Decent Challenge to Even Match when I checked them at level 42, so if you're around that level you won't want to get aggro from it during the fight.

The guide above should really mention the Gazer but doesn't, and from what people have been saying, and what I ended up doing, this is the best way to get this quest complete:

1) Get to Eldieme on a Chocobo (or walk from Upper Jeuno if you're thinking of saving gil)

2) Once inside, run down the stairs. You should see a Gazer near a torch stand. Get it's attention in whatever way you think best, and swiftly turn and run back up the stairs. You won't die, all the thing does is cast a spell and after that it won't be near enough to get you again.

3) As soon as it's zoned turn back and race down the stairs to the ??? sign. Click it, watch the cut-scene, and as soon as Namorodo appears kill him. (As a RDM I just used Chainspell and hit him with everything I had, he went down in under 30 seconds).

The Gazer usually pops as soon as the cut-scene has ended, but it should appear just too far away for it to aggro you during the fight. Don't try moving Namorodo anywhere, one way and you'll run into the Gazer you just zoned, and the other way leads to a room full of Gazers waiting to destroy... If you kill Namorodo quickly enough, talk to your NPC and then return to Jeuno to complete the quest :-)

Meet Balu-Falu!
# Nov 11 2006 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
Well I was just killing time in upper Jeuno and got chatting to a delightful Mithra gal who goes by the name of Luto. She kept on yapping away and i was doing that nodding thing when you don't really listen cos you're not really interested, you just pretend to be. Anyway, when it came to selecting options i just chose any (taru male, random). I chose the name Balu-Falu cos i thought i had seen him (turns out i must have recoginised him from somebody else's NPC). So i go to MH and sub RNG, and look for him in all parts of Jeuno on Wide Scan. When i couldn't find him i got angry, and then i was like, i must have just missed him, im just having one of those retarded days. Again, he's not there. So after 10 minutes of 'Why god whys', stamping my feet and enough tears to fill a bathtub, i thought the best thing to do was to check Alla.

So i calmed down a bit and checked Alla and realised i had stumbled across something quite fantastical, my very own lil buddy who would come to my aid and not be all 'AFK gotta pee'.

Then i read up on what i have to do, and one website i checked said it was easily soloed by level 40. I'm PLD35/WAR17 so thats 5 short. It came down to whether i wanted to get guild points to get my chef hat, level in exp pt (early afternoon mostly JP and they prefer NIN tank when i want to be the one defending my ******** so this was out), join a friend in Promy-Holla or farm meat cos hell i aint paying the prices on Shiva for that meat you use for mithkabobs, i forget what it is called. Anyhoo, I thought i would just have a go at this quest cos all the other sound boring, and this one more rewarding.

I headed out to Eldieme and saw the ??? so i buffed up, with a Protect 2, Shell, boiled crab, and pamamas au lait, cos you never know what might happen. Turns out its really easy, and being undead i have the edge. little balu-falu got paralyzed cos of spikes, so he was pretty much out of it, but hes a ballsy lil fella cos he kept voking, but being a PLD i knew how to keep hate so he didnt get any (i always get a lump in my throat when i see a taru die, so i wasn't about to let that happen).

in the end we defeated him together. beware of the ice spikes, cos of paralyze, but that weirdly didn't get me. also stone 2 got me down to orange, but i had cure 3 regen and auto-refresh on my side.

good luck to all those that managed to get through my story and are going on to get their lil chap to fight beside them.

I was anxious about doing this due to how weak polearm is against bones. Went as a 41DRG/20WHM and pwned its a$$! NPC had hate for the first 10 secs then after that my wyvern had hate. Just used jump and cast dia. 1 min later he was dead. Way to easy
Thanks everyone for the help

Ok, everyone is right about the Gazer. 45 RDM / NIN. First time in I decide to give the little devil a fight. Had it down to a hairline of HP when my 2nd Ichi and stoneskin wore off. Not a problem except Lightninga smoked me for 280 HP and the next hit dropped me.

Back again and listened to everyone's post. Zoned the Gazer, examined the ??? and killed the Skeleton in less than a minute with nukes. (did heal my NPC with Cure II just to get off on the right foot with her)

The Gazer pops quickly. As soon as the skeleton fight started the bug eyed beast was back. Gazer didn't argo during the fight. Lower levels will not have any problem with this fight. Just heed the postings and maybe bring a friend to deal with Gazer.

Keeping it fun ^.^__/
timing is critical

I soloed this about 3 minutes ago as a MNK32/WAR16. Monks are strong against the undead to start with, but this was just easy. The only thing is to make sure that you have a little distance from any Gazers that may be lurking about as they will end you...quickly. I buffed with a Pamama Au Lait and a Rice dumpling, then hit my 2 hour just before I began the cutscene. The fight itself took about 40 seconds and Namorodo took about 350 HP from me.
Too weak
# Aug 14 2006 at 6:51 PM Rating: Decent
I went in as a 43 drg/rdm thinking I'd have a bit of trouble with the NM, seeing how polearms are the worst thing to use against bones. So I brought along a holy sword (sword skill was at like 80/100+). Sneaked myself past the gazer and popped the NM. My NPC provoked it at the beginning and had hate for all of about 2 seconds. After that I took hate with a jump, then I high jumped and my wyvern took the hate and kept it for the rest of the battle. Was way too easy, and my wyvern took all of about 50 damage through the battle. I used all of my MP cause I was messing around and decided to Cure 2 it once. Had just my regular melee exp pt gear on.
Got it!

I just soloed this as a Puppetmaster40/Monk20. And kind of easily, my HP got into the yellow, but that's it. Damean was nice enough to have already been fighting the Gazer when I got there.
I'm really excited to get to NPC training!
For a SMN, everything is easy...

Soloed this as a level 40 Summoner with absolutely no complications. For any other summoners out there, this is what you can do:
Zone in, cast Carbuncle, use Silent Oil, run to Gazer, Assault. Run back to entrance and if Carby isn't dead, retreat. When Gazer appears, zone. The Gazer will depop. Zone back in run to ???, cast buffs, summon carbuncle and use yag drink. Click the ??? and watch cutscene. After cutscene carby will automatically attack. Use Astral Flow and then Searing Light. Afterwards use Hi-Ether to be safe and run in and melee. I wasn't able to get off my second Searing Light because it died too quickly. Hope this helps!
haha easy

solo'd this as RDM41/BLM20. First try I didn't pay enough attention to my npc and didn't do anything to gain hate so she died and then I finished the guy easy with DoT.
Second try, I used Chainspell and just Cure III nuked the skeleton until he was dead. Took about 20 seconds.

Tips for mages around 40
# May 14 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
I am a level 41 RDM (subbed BLM) and I think a lot of the advice in this thread wasn't too accurate, so I will list my experience just for a mage at my level. The Gazers are the problem, they /checked as "Tough" to me. The skeleton was not the problem; you will need help for the Gazers. Specifically:

1. There is one Gazer right after the stairs from the entrance turn right. You might be able to zone and de-pop that one (and you MUST get rid of it). The ???? is just a few steps up the corridor past that Gazer. Do NOT go into the room ahead of you, there are about six of them hanging out there ready to destroy. You need help in case you get aggro from these Gazers during or after the fight, which I did, even though I was careful to stand away from that room. The NPC does seem to pull some aggro from the Gazers in the room.

2. Just cast Silence when the Skeleton pops and the NPC will provoke it and do most of the fighting. You must keep your NPC alive, or you will have to zone out and zone in again to fight again. And....watch your macros, heh heh.... (my healing macros say "Cure <stpc>"...oops). You can do some offensive casting if you want to, but no -ga spells.

3. Keep your eyes peeled for aggro, and hopefully your friends can take care of it. I got aggro right when the fight was finished, it was luckily just one. Remember the Gazers are casters too...hello, Paralyze.

4. Yes, remember to talk to your NPC at the end. Very important!

Thankfully someone had gone through and grabbed the gazer. Popped the NM right after the highlvl killed the damned thing.

Fight was a pushover with a 42drk/war. Hit it once for about 120 damage and all its attention is on me. NPC couldn't even voke it off me. Threw up souleater+last resort+berserk just for fun when it was at half. Took me all of a minute and a half to kill it.
