Summary

Find Stray Cloud's friend Gubokka in the Sea Serpent Grotto.

Walkthrough

Talk to Stray Cloud and he'll tell you about his friend who went to explore Sea Serpent Grotto and never came back, he'll offer a hefty reward if you go and find him. When you attempt to leave Norg, his friend Gubokka will come in and tell you about a Hume who saved him and how he feels bad about being selfish, leaving the Hume to die.

The quest objective now becomes finding the Hume who saved Gubokka. Go to (K-6) on the first map Of Sea Serpent Grotto to find a ???. Clicking it will spawn a NM Sea Monk called Glyryvilu, which is one of the new NMs. Defeat it, and touch the ??? again for a cutscene. You will receive a Key Item, which is the sword that the Hume gave you. Return to Norg and talk to Stray Cloud to receive yet another sad cutscene and receive the Light Buckler as your reward.

Then laugh.

I did this try today as BST lvl 53 with CC out, CC got donw really fast and he came for me and did cross attack me for 1759 damage. OUCH that left a scar :/

I also tried it as WAR 65 did really good until he did cross attack me for 900 damage and I went down shortly after that, now I have WAR 72 and wont even dare try it before I got 74+

I tried as BST because I was thinking I can charm the mobs around but it just kill them to fast.

BAH!

If you are a 63 whm and your friend is a 75whm DONT EVEN TRY IT! good gord this thing was evil, died 3 times first time I took 988pts from cross counter...evil...evil...evil...

fun though!

I would very highly suggest gaving a REALLY good tank with you if you;re a whm and still wanna do this quest. I've decided to scrap it because, to be honest, a 5k shield just isn't worth it...kinda wish I knew what happened to that hume warrior though >.>

75PLD/NIN this fight was cake. His accuracy is horrible...and as PLD I normally evade like a brick. With his normal attacks he never hit me once..his WS were a totally different story, they would not miss at all. He does Cross Attack which takes 2 shadows, or in the case that I only had one shadow up it would hit for 450~500 damage. Ouch if u don't have shadows!! He has auto-TP as I ended up doing 3 WS on him and he did about 10? on me. His AoE WS did about 200 damage and took all my shadows, but after any WS he did, he didn't attack for a few seconds giving me more than enough time to recast shadows and cure myself.

Enjoy the story that goes with this quest. I know I did!
suggest not to solo^^

I went as 75 pld-nin, i built up 275 tp before fight, had half energy from buffs, didnt use food duh!, anyways i had 112 life after the fight, without shadows i would not have survived, hitting me 350 to 450 cross counters, have 1 buddy and your fine^^ good luck.

Just soloed this guy with Shiva, and his Cross Attack can definitely catch a Summoner off-guard and lead to some nervous moments while trying to recast. I had to recast Shiva twice, but 3 Double Slaps and a Diamond Dust were enough to take him down.

Easily soloed as a Smn67/Whm33. Never even glanced at me. Carby did all the fighting.

Any summoner in their mid-60's or up with Carbuncle Mitts should have no problem with the guy.

The NM used a pair of back-to-back specials once on me. First one brought down blink and second was a counter for 700. It still died, but I didn't much like fighting with under 700 hp after that counter landed. For that reason, I'd recommend bringing a healer friend. The NM ??? spawn mark is quite near the SG entrance; even a low level healer (eg. ~60) could stand agro-free and provide sufficient healing in case a counter slips through. Could use even a level 40 healer if you pre-clear the critters near the mark.

What kind of THF/NIN doesn't being bloody bolts to an NM fight? What the hell were you thinking?

Soloed it with ease as 72 THF/NIN. I ate a boiled crab and took off my snipers just in case. It never landed cross attack on me once. Even if it had bloody bolts drained it for 50-80 HP per shot so it would have been no problem.

For 70+ THF/NIN duo is *not* needed, this fight is beyond easy.

Just did this one as Bst75/whm with Carrie as pet.

Carrie tanked doing 200dmg per hit ^^
She got down to half hp due to the crossattacks from the NM when a neat {Rampage} from me finished of the last few procents of HP.
Duo recommended

I just solo'd this one as 75 THF/nin. It's very easy, unless you happen to get hit by cross counter with blink down. The NM used a pair of back-to-back specials once on me. First one brought down blink and second was a counter for 700. It still died, but I didn't much like fighting with under 700 hp after that counter landed. I'd guess that any melee/healer duo with utsusemi:ni wouldn't have too much trouble. The cross-counter special is really the only danger.
I did it, you can to!!!!!

After a friend and I got to Norg, he got this quest and asked if I would help him find someone in SSG. I asked him what the quest was, he showed me who I needed to talk to. We both got the quest and headed out. Found where we needed to be, buffed up and clicked on the ???. Unfortunately, our first attempt didn't go so well, we both died.

I decided to hp. I changed subs grabbed some tools and went back to raise my friend. Got back there, meant to target and raise my friend, and instead targeted the ???.... and popped the NM instead, I wasn't fully ready, but I still had my wits. I buffed up and went to town on the NM. He wasn't easy for me, put up a good fight. I did have to convert, only after a fresh SS was on and shadows. I was knocked to not much hp and not much mp left. But I can atleast say I did solo this guy as RDM65/NIN32.

Good luck to those who come and try this. He was fun to play with

Solo'd.

A 70 RDM/BLM can solo this thing.

Victory.

It spammed Cross Attack at me, and that was the tough part of this fight. Cross Attack with Phalanx and a new Stoneskin was 229 points of damage: I caught it once without Stoneskin to the tune of 719 damage.

I didn't nuke until the very end of the fight, and did have to convert once.

It is a very fun fight, very hectic, and very tough. I had a great time ;)

Had him down to 50% before he used his first Cross Attack, which did over 700 damage and took me into red, but I got HP back up into yellow before he used another special Attack.
He used a couple more Cross attacks, but they only hit for 200-300 after that first one... I threw up Barwatera to get a cure from the first one, so that may have helped, too.
Food: Tavnazian Taco
Used Reraise II just in case (Gorget), a 75 WHM friend gave me Pro/Sh IV before I left, and I popped it with Blink/Stoneskin up.
Was a bit scary, getting me down into Red a couple times, but I finished him off with MP to spare (150 MP at beginning). So not too bad. He took my Dragon's HP down to about half with his AoE attacks, but It wasn't bad enough that I needed to Spirit Link.
beat it

66RDM/NIN. Beat it, barely. 485hp, 60mp left. Threw everything I had at it. Didn't try to sleep. Had to convert. Good luck! It's a fun fight!

I flagged this quest the other day when I was randomly clicking on NPC's in Norg. So after I find out that you need to fight a battle, I get my friend and we head out!

I went as a SAM70/NIN30 and my friend was a WAR70/NIN30. We really didn't have much trouble at all. The only small issue is when the WAR's shadows went down and she got hit with Cross Counter once and it dropped her into orange health. I just did a weapon skill to get back hate while she used bloody bolts to get some HP back. Besides this minor point, the fight went over extremely smoothly. I would recommend having someone with shadows for this battle or enough people to heal because Cross Counter hits HARD!

The best part of this quest is the story. Great story and cut scenes. I recommend everyone to do this quest! True the shield you get is only worth around 4kish on the AH, but you get a fun story.

By the way, I sold my shield to a NPC in Sandy for 4100 gil. ^^
The NM

A friend, 68 sam, was taking me to get the Utsusemi scroll and he clicked the ??? not knowing what it was for. We both had the quest but weren't trying to complete it. Out pops the NM and my friend goes to town, I had only 430mp at the start of the battle and stoneskin up cause I had hit the med button by mistake earlier and got aggro'd by some them shagin. The sam got hit with cross counter, dropping him into orange, I cure 4 and regen2 him, and another cross counter, and another cure4. I disengaged to med, my friend still had 800+ hp and the nm had about 30% hp left. Boom another cross counter, sam at 120hp, I start to stand for bene and sam kills the NM with only 24hp left, god got to love sam TP moves, if not for those, we would have been toast. But unknown to us, this was the NM for this quest so we just catch our breath and move on without checking the ??? again. /cry now we have to do it again /dance very fun fight and next time we will be prepared better.
soloable

I solod this NM as PLD71...not too difficult but the Cross Attack hit me for 200-300 dmg a few times..other then that wasn't too rough..it like to spam Whirlwind which did about 100 dmg each time..Hercules Ring kept my mp up for cure 2 and 3 when needed...hope this info helps ^^

I managed to pick this quest up a day or two after it was released.

Our party for Kraken was

53 pal (me), 60 Thief, and 59 whm. Cross attack brought me down to 18 HP however the WHM managed to spam cure IV enough to keep me alive. Overall it was a great quest with a gimpy reward.

Quest is NOT WORTH IT
# Aug 08 2005 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
I was running around Sea Serpent Grotto and Norg with my 73 PLD friend when I saw this NPC and talked to it. I knew I had every quest from Norg complete and was surprised when he gave me this quest. We flagged this like 2-3 days after the update and this site had no info on the quest and somepage only had the basic info for the quest. We ran all around SSG trying to find the "noble warrior" NPC, not knowing that we were looking for a ???. After a couple hours running around with no luck, I remembered a ??? I had seen near Norg right when we first got there. Long story short, we ran to the ???, checked it, and out popped this NM Kraken that looks like it came out of a bad acid trip. My PLD friend voked it and I SATAed and saw the SATA took about 20% of its HP, so we were like "We got this np". Me and my friend pound on this ******* for a bit and when its got about 25% HP, it starts using a move called "Cross Counter". It ******** the PLD for around 300+ per hit even with Protect IV and is spamming the move every turn. PLD 2 hours and I managed to SATA Viper Bite it to finish it off with the PLD only having about 200 HP left. We go back to Norg to complete quest and all we get for it was a CRAPPY shield called a Light Buckler.. a level 40 shield with I believe 6 DEF and Shield Skill +5. Look up shield on AH and see it goes for like 4-5k on Bismarck server. This quest is not worth it, in my opinion... only decent thing about it IS the few cutscenes you get.
