Summary

A friend of Luto has used a magical costume kit to change into a child, but now he can't return to his original form. Luto wants you to help find a way to change him back.

Walkthrough

To get this quest, you must have the first 5 NPC quests completed which are Unlisted Qualities, Girl in the Looking Glass, Mirror, Mirror, Past Reflections and Blighted Gloom.

Start out by talking to Luto Mewrilah in Upper Jeuno. You will treated to a cut scene which includes a sneaky taru whose merchandise he tries to sell you fail. In order to learn more about how to fix the merchandise, Luto Mewrilah will direct you to Ru'Lude Gardens. Once the cut scene is over, head over to Ru'Lude Gardens and speak with Muhoho who is near the Archduke's Palace to get another cut scene. In this cut scene Luto Mewrilah will tell you to get a Jar of Reversion Dust to fix the taru's broken item, which is found from Gelzerio of Boytz's Knickknacks in Bastok Mines. Here, you will see another cut scene with Gelzerio and Boytz saying that they just ran out of Reversion Dust, but if you want it immediately, to talk to their supplier of the item who is Chamama of Windurst Waters.

Head over to Windurst Waters and talk to Chamama who gladly gives you the Reversion Dust after another cut scene. Once you have the dust in your possession, head back to Upper Jeuno and speak with Luto Mewrilah. She will be happy to help the taru fix his item, but he is nowhere to be found. Your npc fellow suddenly walks by and Luto Mewrilah calls him/her over and asks if they have any idea where to go. Your npc will tell you to try looking in Delkfutt's Tower.

Run to Lower Delkfutt's Tower and check the ??? on the first floor at J-9; you will see yet another cut scene. During this cut scene, your npc will walk off camera and suddenly call you on your linkpearl. Somehow, your npc is already back in Jeuno and asks you to come and meet with them at Luto's spot. Luto Mewrilah is confused how your fellow could have traveled to Jeuno that fast and suggests you follow your "other" fellow and see where they went. I chose to listen to Luto Mewrilah. Continue forward and find another ??? at I-5 on the first floor of Lower Delkfutt's Tower. Examine it and another cut scene will occur where both versions of your npc will meet up. You will ultimately have to decide which npc is the real one. Even though it's probably random, the fake npc for me was on the right and the real one on the left. Nevertheless, Luto Mewrilah thinks she hears something down the corridor and goes to check it out. After being gone for some time, everyone notices she's been gone for awhile. Follow Luto back to the first ??? at J-9 to trigger another cutscene and a notorious monster.

The Notorious Monster is a Magic Pot named Illusory Pot which I easily soloed as a 75 white mage (your npc will also come to help you fight). Once the fight is finished, examine the ??? again to trigger the closing cutscene of the quest. At the end, the taru that you helped will give your choice of one of three items: Tactics Manual of Endurance, Tactics Manual of Might and Tactics Manual of Fortitude. Along with one of the manuals, you will also be given the Costume Kit, the merchandise that the taru tried to sell you from the start.

minimum level for the NM in this quest?

does anyone have any idea what the minimum level to take on the NM in this quest might be? Obviously, level 75 WHM taking it on easily isn't any sort of recommendation. I'd much rather know that level 40 WHM had no trouble, or was instantly killed... whichever it is.

i solo'd this as a 44blu/nin and had minor difficulties. had 3/4 hp left and 1/4 mp. npc never got touched. but i did run into a snag. when i used my ws, chain affinity and burst affinity i aggro'd every gob in the room, which i took out also. the problem was that my npc disappeared befor i could talk to him. if this happens to you, rezone and examine the last ??? again and re-fight the pot.

I soloed it as RNG53/NIN26, but it was close and I used Eagle Eye Shot. My NPC was only level 34 as well. Keep in mind that rangers weren't meant to melee though...I'm sure just about any other job could take it at lower levels.

I figure the tactics manuals increase your NPC's abilitys to function during that job. And costume kit speaks loudly enough..

Sadly you cannot currently use the costume kit. However, others speculate that you can use it in the quest "Bait and Switch" based on the dialogue files for the quest, but nobody has been able to get the quest (to the best of my knowledge).

The tactics manuals give your NPC the so-called "advanced jobs" being: Salwart Shield, Soothing Healer, and Fierce Attacker.
