Mission Orders

Gather information on San d'Oria and Windurst.
The Bastokan consulates in those two countries will provide you with a detailed briefing.

Walkthrough

Speak to any Bastokan Gate Guard to accept this mission. The Gate Guard will spend you to speak with Naji at (J-8) in the Metalworks, near the President's Office. A cutscene will play and they will escort you to President Karst. You will then be able to ask him questions about various topics and once you are done he will ask you to head to San d'Oria or Windurst.

Visit San d'Oria First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in San d'Orian first, head to (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Enter the Bastok Consulate and speak to Helaku. He will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, north of the Bastok Consulate.

Halver will then send you to Ghelsba Outpost. To get there, take the northwestern exit of West Ronfaure. Once there, your task is to defeat Warchief Vatgit. The Warchief is at the top of Ghelsba Outpost (H-7). After defeating the Warchief, return to Northern San d'Oria to speak with Helaku again.

Helaku will now send you to the Bastok Consulate at (E-5) in Port Windurst. Once you arrive, speak to Melek, who represents the Bastok Consulate. Melek will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. In Heaven's Tower, you will need to speak to Kupipi to receive the Dark Key Key Item. After obtaining the Dark Key, travel to West Sarutabaruta, where you will find the entrance to the Giddeus. Once inside Giddeus, head to Balga's Dais. Here, you will face two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note:A full party of level 25s is suggested if this is your first time.

After defeating the monsters, return to Port Windurst and speak to Melek again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Visit Windurst First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in Windurst first, head to (E-5) of Port Windurst. Speak to Melek, who will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. Once inside Heaven's Tower, speak to Kupipi. Kupipi will give you a Sword offering Key Item to give to the Yagudo as a peace tribute. Take the Magical Sword back to the Bastok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak with Gold Skull, a Galka, located in the 2nd room to your right. He will exchange the Sword offering for a Dull blade.

The offering to the Yagudo must be taken to the Treasure Room, which is located in the tunnels of Giddeus at (F-7). The Treasure Room is guarded by Uu Zhoumo, a Yagudo. Speak to Uu Zhoumo and he will tell you that you weapon is not a good enough offering, and that he'd rather have the blade used by Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker. Eyy Mon is a Notorious Monster that spawns at (G-7), not far from where you are. Eyy Mon will drop an Aspir Knife 100% of the time. Trade the knife to Eyy Mon to complete this part of the mission, then return to the Bsatok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak to Melek, who will send you to the Bastok Consulate in San d'Oria.

The Bastok Consulate is located at (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Speak to Helaku who will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, which is seated north of the Bastok Consulate. Halver will tell you to head to the Yughott Grotto, deep within Ghelsba Outpost. Once inside the grotto, you must head to the Horlais Peak, where you will enter a Burning Circle fight against two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note: A full party of level 25 players is recommended if this is your first time doing this mission.

After defeating the monsters, return to Northern San d'Oria and speak to Helaku again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Titles Awarded

  • Warcheif Wrecker - awarded after killing Warcheif Vatghit.
  • Black Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the Windurstian monster.
  • Dread Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the San d'Orian monster.
  • Certified Adventurer - awarded after finishing this mission completely and returning to Bastok for Rank 3.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Dragon Killing
# Oct 27 2004 at 8:24 AM Rating: Decent
Killing the Dragon is actually fairly easy, though you will need more than one person. I tried to solo this mission with all the buffs and potions I could get...no go. But with a tank, another damage dealer, and someone who can cast sleep, it will be np.
Enter the Circle, sleep the Dragon...pummel the spotter. Then turn on the Dragon, 2h hr him, and see it go down like a cheap hooker. Anymore than 3 ppl, and you're just trying to break the spee d record.
BTW...I found out the dragon dont much like two lvl 25 Galka monks 100 fisting him....

at lvl 16, I would go to Selbina, catch the boat to Mhaura, go through Buburimu, carefully (Invisibly if you can), to Tahrongi, then through the Canyons to Sarutabaruta. then you are home free.
wrong info

Thats not how the sandy quest goes - u have to get mythril sand, not kill vatgit. And speaking of mythril sand, where is it in Palborough Mines? Ive spent 2 days lookin for it. HELP PLEASE! Thanks in advance
RE: wrong info
# Oct 24 2004 at 5:04 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, for Sandy, you do kill Vatgit. If you're from Sandy or Windy and you're doing the Bastok part of the quest, then you get the sand. However if you're from Windy or Bastock and go to Sandy, then you just kill the warchief and you're ready to move on.
I hate this quest because...
# Oct 01 2004 at 5:21 AM Rating: Decent
I ran through this quest as my level 56 rdm/blm expecting to just own the dragon but noooo! level cap... wtf
there's really no point in leveling if it's just going to cap you off like that... thank god not many quests are like this. The only quests I've done that I've found the level cap reasonable are the various garisons.
RE: I hate this quest because...
# Oct 13 2004 at 5:32 PM Rating: Default
The whole POINT of lvl caps is to prevent people from just getting uber characters to help out or just waiting until lvl 56 to pwn the dragon, this is supposed to be a challenging mission, not incredibly easy just because you waited until lvl 56
not that easy
# Oct 01 2004 at 1:22 AM Rating: Decent
Getting a party for the dragon quest is not that easy as it seems.
Your shouting method should've worked... ^^;
If not, try going to the dragon zone. There's always people around there willing to help. Well, it happened to me! Also try to ask your linkshell to organize a party.

This is a really fun mission. well, the second half.

When you actually go to kill the Dragon, start in town, and see who wants to come. I actually found all of the people I needed by the Burning Crystal. If you are fighting the Sandy Dragon, this is easy. Because there are a lot of Level 20-30 People in Fort Gleshba. This can be easily accomplished with a party of 6 people lvl. 25.
The first time I had tried this I died, I was only 18. But I came back at 25, and my party owned the dragon. I have since done it another time in Bastok, and I am looking forward to killing the Windy Dragon^^

A few questions
# Aug 31 2004 at 1:08 AM Rating: Decent
So last night I tried to help a ls member on this. I'm from Sandy Rnk2, he was doing it in Giddeus. We all meet up, got to the Burning Circle and I was not allowed in. The only thing I can think of is that I was the only one NOT from Bastok! Any advice or knowledge on this would be nice. Thank you!
RE: A few questions
# Sep 01 2004 at 5:00 AM Rating: Excellent
In order to help a friend, you must be either rank 3 or to the point in the mission to be ready to fight the dragon and be fighting the same dragon as your friend. After defeating the dragon you can help anyone, regardless of country.

Windurst Dragon
Record Time: 3:24
Server: Seraph
# in PT: 3

One of my LS members decided to switch to bastok yesterday. He did all the missions up to emissary. He asked me a mithra lvl 27 drk/war and a taru lvl 30 blm/whm to come help him. (btw he is a hume lvl 30 sam/war) We went to the circle got into the fight and after protectra and some food (meat mithkabobs(sam) & apple pie(blm)) we charged the dragon, me and the sam attacked the eye the blm put the dragon to sleep. The eye died pretty quickly then we moved to the dragon. the sam used his 2hr after 5 tachi enpis the dragon was pretty much dead and only took a few more hits to kill.

Time taken 3:24 we broke the record.

after reading all these, everything's clear on how to take down the dragon. I did Sandy first and I've reached Windy with lvl 25. Just wonder:

HOW / WHERE WOULD I BE ABLE TO FIND MEMBERS OF THE PARTY???
Info
# Jul 22 2004 at 2:42 PM Rating: Default
Ok, Haven't read through all the posts yet, but I finished this mission a few days ago as a Bastoker going to Windy then Sandy.

#1 - The level cap for the final fight is 25, but that does not mean that a lvl 70 can't help you, they will be temporarily deleveled to 25 for that fight, so they will need lvl 25 gear, and can only use up to lvl 25 spells.

#2 - You do not need to be Rank 2 or from the same nation of the person you're helping to fight this dragon again. Just remember that you will be deleveled to 25, and you'll be fine.

#3 - This goes without saying, but this IS a NM fight, and it could go very sour very fast if someone screws up. Make sure everyone's responsibilities are VERY clear before you even get TO the Burning Circle.

#4 - Once you enter the Burning Circle, there is a cutscene, and your party will appear on a path TO the fight, not in the arena itself, so don't worry, you will get the chance to buff and heal up to full before the fight.

#5 - Your 2hr skills are there to be used....don't be ashamed to use them! It's recommended that EVERYONE burns their 2hr skill, if it will help the fight...IE, Monks, War, Rdm... Thf, Whm, Nin...well, of course yours won't help the fight much. (If the Whm has to Benny the Party...someone really screwed the pooch.)

#6 - This fight is fairly easy if everyone knows what they're doing. I finished it in 5:50 (Record on Garuda server) with myself being a 22 War/Mnk, a lvl 30-something War/Mnk a lvl 40-something Whm/??? (He was anon, I assume he was /Blm) and a lvl 24 Rdm/Whm. Now if you look at the levels and such, you'll see that we did not have the ability to sleep either the Spotter or the Dragon, which seems to be 'required' depending who you ask. First, we rushed in and gangbanged the Spotter, making sure to split aggro between us on the dragon. Spotter lasted just about 45 seconds, and got myself and the other war to nearly 100% TP. As soon as possible, I used Shield break on the Dragon (at 100% it lasted plenty of time) and the other war used Sturmwind. We split aggro, and off tanked each other, while the RDM and WHM did their jobs. Both wars and the RDM used our 2hrs, and the whm never got below 30% MP.

#7 - KICK THAT ****'S ***!

Hey Dranerol, if you still need help fighting the Dragon, i can help you out, I'm just raising fame for the Leviathan quest, after i kill him, I'll be able to help you, i guess.

Lol..whehe..just finished off the biznitch.
Took down Windurst first, piece of cake and then went to San Doria, had to level quite a lot before that in Valkurm and Qufim, but hey, all fun.
Beating the **** of the Dread Dragon in Ghelsba Outpost was amazing definately.

To answer somebody's question..not everybody needs to be doing the mission. Neither do they have to be rank 2, the people helping us out were rank 3. You can just kill it.
We had a full party of 6 people level 24-25 and it was a piece of cake, didn't expect it to be that easy...it was seriously way too easy. Ah well, all fun..whoohoo..rank 3 that's me ^^

When you fight the dragon in a party, does that mean everyone in the party needs to be rank 2 and from the same nation and if so, working on the same version of the mission?
