There is a rare treasure in the "Middle Lands" that Waoud needs someone to obtain for him...

The background of the Immortal Lions, the blue mages of Aht Urhgan:

The Immortals are the personal guard and the highest ranking soldiers of the leader of the Aht Urghan Empire, currently Empress Nashmeira II. Decades ago Emporer Balrahn feared an uprising of the chimaera, which the Empire used at this time as soldiers and warmachines and had to see how weak his palace guard were, leading to the death of his beloved son. The alchemists which created the chimaera thought just a monster can defeat a monster, so they took the strongest palace guards and tried to make monsters out of them. But after some horrible mistakes where the guards (in lucky cases) died from the transplantations the alchemists decided to stop the biotechnological way and turned to the way of magic: They fused the soul of the monster directly into the spirit of the guards!

These new guards, which wielded a magic called 'blue magic', could embrace the beast within themself and the monster they defeated. Their azure blood drew strength from the enemies they defeated and added them to power of the Blue Mage - the price being horrible pain and the loss of their humanity.

An Immortal never died after a normal livespan. They died in ferocious battle succumbing to their beastly nature ...

So, what is the way to immortality?

Before you do this quest I suggest you visit the Quon continent to gather some items:

  • Dangruf Stone: go to (I-5) in Dangruf Wadi and search a shining spot there. It will give you the Dangrif Stone (may just happen during bright daylight).
  • Siren's Tear: go to (J-8) in North Gustaberg an un-equip all weapons, shields and ammo from you. You will find a ??? which gives you the Siren's Tear. But be careful, it is a very delicate treasure which will slip away when you fight!
  • Valkurm Sunsand: Go to the overturned ship at (H-9) in the Valkurm Dunes (shiver), wait for a sandstorm and then click the ??? to get this item.

Travel to Aht Urghan Whitegate and go to a guy named Waoud at the Heretic's Alley (if it is your first visit to Aht Urghan I recommend buying a map at the vendor in the port), where he stands on top of the middle buildings. Waoud is a diviner which has a rather unique way to tell your future. He will ask you 10 questions. If you anwer correctly, you will start "An Empty Vessel", the BLU flag quest. Here are the questions:

I. What is destiny?

II. Does the accomplishment of a goal require sacrifice and hardship?

III. You hold in your hands a forbidden scroll. Reading it will bring you untold wisdom, but cost all that you own.

IV. If the loss of one life would save ten thousand, would you offer yourself without hesitation?

V. Would you choose a tumultuous life where fame or fortune were attainable, or a tranquil life where both were forever beyond your reach?

VI. You stand on the precipice between life and death. Would you choose to live life as a beast if it would save you from falling into the shadowy abyss of the underworld?

VII. A companion in battle turns against you, raising a weapon to attack.

VIII. A loved one is afflicted with a terrible illness and has little time to live. You are asked to end that life by your own hand.

IX. You are in the midst of a fierce battle. The enemy lying at your feet was once a friend. His breath is ragged and weak.

X. A superior to whom you owe a great debt orders you to act in a way that violates your sense of justice.

The catch is this: there is no 100% 'correct' way to answer this question. When you answer the question think like a Blue Mage might answer - a ruthless beast without mercy but still honourable. For some people a certain set of answers work and for other people not. Perhaps the 'correct' way depends on the race and/or job you have while doing the divination ... but I'm pretty sure there are always 3 correct ways and the chosen way will determine the item you have to pay. For me 'take all bottom answers' worked, others say the right combination is 2-2-3-3-2-1-2-1-2-2

If you answer wrong, he will charge 1000 gil from you and you can do it again one Vana'diel day later. But when all the answers are right, he will see the symbols of the five serpents (Sky, Flame, Stone, Gale and Spring) and ask for no payment. Talk to him until he mentiones something from the Middle Lands (Mindartia / Quon) that he wants: either a golden sand, a red stone, or a blue jewel. Zone and wait a full Vana'diel day, then talk to him again and after that trade him the according item.

Waoud will send you to Aydeewa Subterrane. Go to the Bhaflau Thickets and then walk as far northeast as possible. There you will find the entrance to the Subterrane. Go right until you come to a room where many diremites crawl around. A ramp is there which leads down to a deeper cave where a great blue pool is. Step onto the pool ... and then decide ...

Do you want to get the power of an Immortal? If yes, take his hand...

Adding to the knowledge base here, I just did this quest over the weekend.

My character is a Mithra with her home/allegience in Windurst.

I tried the test first as a WHM/RDM, which is what I have been using for leveling up to this point. NONE of the answer sets previously posted in this thread worked. However, I tried changing my sub-job to BLM instead and retried the answers posted here by Toucha. That worked for me this time. Item required for me was the Siren's Tear.

One other note regarding the method of using the third answer for every question, all of my linkshell members who did it that way were using a combination of melee classes when they did it. Everyone who did it as a mage had to use one of the other answer sets.

Here is a way to get all three of the new jobs in about 5 hours…I hope this helps.
1. Starting in Bastok, go talk to Shamarhaan who is next to the Bastok Markets fountain with with a puppet. He is the start for PUP quest. (Also while you are in Bastok, you shold get the 3 items you need for BLU: Valkurm Sunsand, Dangruf stone, and Siren's Tear.
2. Valcrum Sunsand is obtained from the ??? in the shipwrecked boat in Valcrum Dunes during a sandstorm.
3. The Dangruf Stone is obtained by talking to Horatius in Bastok Market, Trader's house (I-9). He wants you to bring him the rare stone that you can find in Wadi. You can find it only on sunny days. Go to Wadi (I/J-5) and target ??? to get the Dangruf stone.
4. The Siren’s Tear is part of a quest from Wahid in front of the auction house in Bastok Mines. Before you go outside strip of all weapons, shield and ammo. Also, make sure you still have a slot available in your inventory. Go in to North Gustaberg and follow the road to the creek. Look for a little area that dips down to the water at J-9 on you map. Use the TAB key to auto target until you target something that says ???. Once targeted hit enter. (Note: You MUST have nothing in your hands to pick this up)
5. After you get those items, go to Mhaura. (The Konshushu outpost supply run can be quite useful now.) Then head to Aht Urhgan Whitegate. As soon as you enter the city, head east then go to the second floor to J-10 and find Waoud. He is the start for BLU. When he asks the questions, answer all of them the 3rd choice. Then you are going to have to wait 1 game day (1 real life hour) until he asks you for one of the 3 treasures: Valkurm Sunsand, Dangruf Stone, and Siren's Tear. (*Instead of waiting and doing nothing for 1 hour. I found it more productive to finish the other 2 jobs and do this when I come back.)
6. Then go to J-12 to Ratihb (Hume) on the second floor and talk to him twice. You are going to get 2 quests but this will start COR.
7. Then go to K-9 and talk to a Taru named Iruki-Waraki still on the second floor. This is for PUP.
8. Then go to L-9 and talk to Mafwahb. (Hume) This is the second cut-scene for COR.
9. Then go to back upstairs to a Galka named Ghatsad. He is located in the Automation Workshop in the back at I-7. This is the second cut scene for PUP.
10. Then take the ship from the port outside of the Automation Workshop to Nashau (I-6).
11. Now you can do this several ways, you can go 1st level and not worry about dying. You can also go as 75th but I think things still aggro at that level as well. Sneak and invis is important for this. So you can deal with this how you want. (But setting your home point there is very helpful.)
12. Head out from the north exit to Caederva Mire. Try and find your way to I-7 and look for the ??? next to a pool of water. When you click on the ???, you will get the Lamia Fang Key. This opens the gate that will get you the cutscenes and the key items for PUP and COR. Try not to fall into the pool, you get a “gravity” effect.
13. Head to the cave entrance at I-6. That will lead you to Arrapago Reef. Inside the reef, just follow the right wall until you come out into the open where you will find your first wrecked vessel. On the first boat, there will be a ??? which is where you can obtain your key item puppet for the PUP job quest. Through the boat (which will have undead and Lamia aboard), you again follow the right wall and up the ramp to the first gate. Past the first gate, you follow the left wall until you come to the next gate. There, on another boat, you will find the ??? for COR. This series of cutscenes are rather long. The NPC in the cutscene there will ask you to go to Talcaa Cove.
14. Head back to Nashmu and this time take the west exit. Head to E-10 through a graveyard and take the north cave (second cave leads to the training grounds) Go to the back of the zone (no mobs) and examine a ??? for a CS and to get the forgotten hexagun. Head to the west to the rock slab and examine it for another cool CS and to get your corsairs dice which allows you to become a Corsair.
15. Return to the Automaton Shop in Aht Urgan Whitegate and talk to Ghatsan again and wait 1 game day. (*Again, while I was waiting, I finished BLU.) Return the next day to recive your new and working Auto... Now take the Auto back to Iruki-Waraki and go through the Cut sceen and you will then be flagged a Puppetmaster.
16. He'll then ask for one of the 3 items above. when you trade it to him, he'll say he really meant for it for someone else and that you need to bring it to them in Adeewa Subterenne underneath Bhaflau Thickets. To get here, head west through Whitegate and zone to the common area and head north out the gate to Bhaflau Thickets. Then go north toward the lighthouse marked on the map. There’s a cave at the small jutting part of the map. Enter the cave and you’re in the Adeewa Subterenne.
17. When you enter, follow the path until you get to the first room. You may want to sneak and invis here because the insects will aggro you. Stay close to the right hand wall. As soon as you enter the second room, follow the left wall and head down the ramp there. Once you are in the pool, you will get a cutscene. Answer “yes”. You will be teleported back to Whitegate and get the flag for BLU. (After you are back, you can finish up PUP)

30WHM/12BLM Mithra~!
Just finally unlocked it after failing using all of the other 'guides' (all 3rds, etc etc etc)
Here are the Description/original questions; questions as he asks, the possible answers, and the answers I chose that finally unlocked it for me.
What is destiny?

Destiny is something that...

Is immutable.
One forges for oneself.
Is unknowable.
Does the accomplishment of a goal require sacrifice and hardship?

Do goals require sacrifice?

Not if you think hard enough.
You hold in your hands a forbidden scroll. Reading it will bring you untold wisdom, but cost all that you own.

Do you...

Read the scroll?
Throw the scroll away?
Burn the scroll?
If the loss of one life would save ten thousand, would you offer yourself without hesitation?

Offer yourself?

Offer another...
I have no such courage.
Without hesitation.
Would you choose a tumultuous life where fame or fortune were attainable, or a tranquil life where both were forever beyond your reach?

Which do you choose?

A chaotic life.
A tranquil life.
A mix of both.
You stand on the precipice between life and death. Would you choose to live life as a beast if it would save you from falling into the shadowy abyss of the underworld?

What do you do?

If it keeps me from dying...
Fall, and keep my humanity.
Embrace life as a beast.
A companion in battle turns against you, raising a weapon to attack.

Do you...

Brace for the blow?
Try to reason with him?
Cut him down?
A loved one is afflicted with a terrible illness and has little time left to live. You are asked to end that life by your own hand.

Do you...

Seek a cure?
Leave the world together?
Grant the request?
You are in the midst of a fierce battle. The enemy lying at your feet was once a friend. His breath is ragged and weak.

Do you...

Tend to his wounds?
End his pain?
Ignore your old friend?
A superior to whom you owe a great debt orders you to act in a way that violates your sense of justice.

Do you...

Try to remove him from power?
Carry out the order?
Follow your sense of justice?

Finally got the answers right~!

Tried the next Vana'diel day using the All 3s method, and it worked. The item he requested was also Sunsand (Which was the only one i had, luckily!)

It may be interesting to know i was 50 WAR/MNK Hume Male when I spoke to him.

When I started quest people told me that once I got to the pool there would be "tigers"... well I had no such luck, I went there twice because the first time I forgot my item, neither time did I see tigers anywhere. Also they said the cs was "short", lie #2 it was like 5 minutes long, but it was a cool cs. 3rd I was also told to bring a scroll of instant warp because I needed to warp out after cs was done, but after cs ended I was in aht urghan whitegate. So yea. I dont know if things had changed since the quest was made or not, but this is what happened to me. Also I soloed this as 61war/30nin and I only needed 1 tonko and 1 oil for each time I was in there.

I just completed the quest to get the pass to travel to AU, and getting BLU will be my first order of business, but I had one question. Is it possible to place the Siren's Tear, Valkurm Sunsand, and Dangruf Stone in your Mog house to retrieve once in Whitegate?

Faursel seemed to indicate after completing the quest to acquire the boarding pass that the trip isn't always "safe" which leads me to believe there might be some baddies hopping on the boat, and I'd hate to lose the Siren's Tear halfway through the trip. With my luck, that'd be the item I'd need to finish the quest.

Thanks all!

I just did the questions to do this quest and the combination that was given in above worked for me. The first time I tried I wanted to do it on my own, but that didn't work for me. So I waited to do it again and then used 2233212122 as the answers and it worked. If others have tried this and it hasn't worked for them then it might change up an answer every now and then as said above.

I started this last night for my Drg sub.
I answered 3-3-3-3-2-1-2-3-2-3, I just answered honestly, to what I'd actually do. And I got it! :P

But I think the combo of my honest answers and how long it took me for the answers were the reason I got it. Seriously, the self sacrifice answers I answered quickly, but the ones that involved friends or how I would react to a betrayel took me longer to answer, not too long but about 5 secs longer (average).

And I'm suprised he told me to go to Wajoam, and didnt actually take the Dangruf Stone from me. I was shocked he didn't want it, he just wanted to "show" someone it.

Also it wouldn't allow me to trade to him, he only said something about the Dangruff Stone after I tried talking to him again.

Don't know if this helps anyone else or if itll be useful at all.

I started the quest long time ago, answered all the questions just never bothered with the items, so I don't remember how I answered. Just finished the quest today, during the cut scene, the hume bald blu said something interesting, did everyone see this script? :

??? : This...
...loathsome Ahriman lens!

The first thing that popped in my head is the Your Crystal Ball quest... I placed an Ahriman lens in there 2 years ago, this quest is still active according to my quest log, so I guess I never went back and check it. The other quest that involves Ahriman lens is Heaven Cent, but I didn't start it.

I'm pretty certain that none of the answers matter except that you must pick "embrace life as a beast". Everyone who has suceeded in this quest has posted as answering as such. Since when you read up on Blue Mages, the story is that they merged the soul of monsters with the guards to make them better fighters, it would make sense that you must answer this in order to unlock the quest. All other reported answers have varied accross the board, so I am beginning to think that is the only answer that matters. If anyone who hasn't yet unlocked the quest feels like testing this theory, I'd be curious to know the results.
A theory..

I decided to test this theory, choosing to "Embrace Life as a Beast" and I was not able to unlock BLU on that Divination.

I answered everything else as honestly as I could, but chose the "Embrace Life as a Beast" option.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the answers listed for the quest walkthrough do not include the mentioned option. Instead, you pick "If it saves my life..." Also, I figured I may as well give exact combination.

I did a Find... on this page for my combination, 3-3-2-3-3-3-1-3-2-3 and it was not found. I did test your theory, I answered all my others as I would answer honestly myself, except the one about the beast. I answered that as you suggested and got the job quest flagged. Now to sit in the dunes and wait for Sunsand. I picked the other two objects up, and figured I'd be like "eh, i got a 66% chance of getting one of these two" and apparently the odds were against me. Now to wait for a sandstorm >.< Good luck fellow BLU seekers.

I recieved the quest and he says "My colleague is currently part of an Imperial patrol that apprehends desecrators of the ruins found in the Aydeewa Subterane. The Aydeewa Subterrane runs beneath Bhaflau Thickets. May the winds of fortune guide you." So I proceded to go to Aydeewa Subterane to get the cutscene in the blue pool and nothing happened. Did I do something wrong? If anyone can find this out, please reply.

When my friend did blue mage quest and at the end the NPC says,
"I will take something from you, and you may not even notice"

My friend 75BLM/RDM noticed his thunder damage went down.. He did 1781 thundaga 3
on the same day, same food, same gear, same sub... same everything.

After he did blue quest his damage went to 1621 consistantly and once was 1783 but before it was consistant at 1781..

Anyone have any ideas what could have happened.

Just so people don't get nearly as frustrated as I did, this guide is somewhat misleading.

Yes, you have to wait till midnight in-game before getting your fortune read again after a wrong answer, but if you get a correct answer you have to wait till the next in-game day AGAIN to trade him the item.

After he sees all 5 serpents he will talk about what he wants you to get, then say that it's silly of him to request such payment from you and that your reading was free. If you got all 3 items beforehand, you CANNOT trade him the items until the next day.

Once in-game midnight comes around, talk to him again and he will ask if you listened to what he said and he'll ask what his words meant to you. Answer "...inspired me to action." or something to the like and he will ask for the item again. Now you can trade it to him and finish the quest.

I just got really annoyed with this because I had all 3 items and took his quiz for the second time at exactly 0:00 and had to wait ANOTHER hour to give him the item, especially when everywhere I looked it said nothing about waiting another in-game day.

If you plan on farming the items beforehand, I suggest having something to do between quizzes/trading because it really is no fun just standing in front of him for hours on end.

edit: spelling/grammer...argh

Maybe we can figure out what determines which answers work?

Although I had read answering straight 3s would work, I decided to answer honestly and got mine to work on the first try (Most ended up being 3s anyway). I'm a Bastokan male hume. I was asked to get the Siren's Tear.
I. What is destiny?

2) Destiny is something that one forges for oneself
II. Does the accomplishment of a goal require sacrifice and hardship?

3) Absolutely
III. You hold in your hands a forbidden scroll. Reading it will bring you untold wisdom, but cost all that you own.

3) Burn the scroll
IV. If the loss of one life would save ten thousand, would you offer yourself without hesitation?

3) Without hesitation
V. Would you choose a tumultuous life where fame or fortune were attainable, or a tranquil life where both were forever beyond your reach?

3) A mix of both
VI. You stand on the precipice between life and death. Would you choose to live life as a beast if it would save you from falling into the shadowy abyss of the underworld?

3) Embrace life as a beast
VII. A companion in battle turns against you, raising a weapon to attack.

1) Brace for the blow
VIII. A loved one is afflicted with a terrible illness and has little time to live. You are asked to end that life by your own hand.

3) Grant the request
IX. You are in the midst of a fierce battle. The enemy lying at your feet was once a friend. His breath is ragged and weak.

2) End his pain
X. A superior to whom you owe a great debt orders you to act in a way that violates your sense of justice.

3) Follow your sense of justice

So my answers were 2-3-3-3-3-3-1-3-2-3. They worked for me and two LS members (both Sandorian Elvaan--One male and one female).

We've all been completely overthinking whats going on for this quest. It's the same for every lvl for every job regardless of race or day or whatever. All you have to do is answer the questions with the mindset of a Blue Mage; Honorable and ABSOLUTELY RUTHLESS.

One of the questions is if your friend turns his sword on you in the middle of battle what do you do?(or somethin close to it) I honestly forget the order but the 3 answers are brace for the blow, reason with him, or kill him. So being the ruthless Blue Mage you are, you kill the *******. It's worked for 7 of us all on the first try, so i feel pretty good in saying thats how it works.
