What's the deal with the worn out name "VIG****T O**"? I'm just finished the quest though, maybe i'll find out in a second. Long trip up, i'm now looking for that shortcut everyone keeps talking about...

I just did this quest today, and i only interacted with the monument once, and the quest worked out fine for me. Returned to Elki and ta-da, rewarded my Sitibaki.

Found Stinging Sophie During This Quest
# May 06 2005 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
Thow shalt never hack n' slash without knowing thy enemy.

As a Warrior 10, I ran across the notorious monster Stinging Sophie while fighting Maneating Hornets on the way up Zegham Hill. I had engaged her without realizing it was a NM, so I had no choice but to execute the two hour and a sword skill. I would have come close to winning this one, and thought I might pull it off, when a goblin aggro'd me from behind and laid me to waste. The moral of the story is... Just lay the flowers and leave the Bees for another day.

I have came back again and again and have yet to find her... :P

More than 1 way
# Feb 14 2005 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
I found there are more than 1 way to get up the hill. I found a trail at H-8 bordering I-8 where you can get up onto the hill, without going all the way around to the north side of the hill. Also, if you can a chocobo makes this quest much shorter.

Once in North Gustaberg, head to the backside of Zegham Hill. There is a path leading up the hill at I-6. Follow path up and around the the other side of hill J-8. Follow that path up to next lvl, once again go to other side of mountain to J-7. Once up that path you should see monument in front of you (J-7)..
Not Repeatable
# Feb 06 2004 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
No this quest is not repeatable, but it is part of a series of quests and Elki is involved in. He has his own little story and stuff.... and you learn about Galkan history.

I completed this quest and received the reward, but what's with the titles? I don't think that I received any titles for the quests I've completed so far. I know that not all quests grant them, but isn't this one supposed to make you a "Pursuer of the Past"?

Just curious ^_^

Unless I'm mistaken, your title does not show if you /check yourself, only if you /check others. Check the "Profile" submenu in the "Status" menu instead - the windowbar at the very top of the screen should list your current title.

Ok, so what's up with the mention of the name after you complete the quest?

To fill in everyone who hasn't done the quest, when you lay the boquet down, yet a message that there is another name at the bottom of the monument. It is almost rubbed off and you only get a few of the letters (don't remember them myself...) Then when you mention it to Elki, she says, "Oh, no, it couldn't be..." then proceeds to give you your reward and mention nothing else about it.

If anyone has any info, please post...

This is relating to the Eleventh Hour Quest.  With more fame Elki requests that you locate information in the Palaborough Mines that would relate to this unknown settler.

Ok, I just finished the quest. What it says is:

There you see ten names, including that of Elki's great-grandfather, Omran. As you look closely, you find another, almost illegible name at the very bottom of the monument. The letters have almost worn away, and you can only make out the "Vig****t O**"

Personally, I suspect the name is "Vigilant Owl" or something like that, a Galka name. But I don't know who it is or what it means that his name is there.
easy to miss
# Nov 16 2003 at 12:33 PM Rating: Default
Yeah so far I've only seen 1 way up that hill and its very easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Its along the souther edge of the Zehrun(sp?) hill. Not many people were up there, chances are cause not many people could find the way up.

More than one path
# Nov 02 2003 at 8:22 PM Rating: Good
There are actually 3 Mossy Paths.

The first one takes you to the lower level of Monument Hill. When you reach the top of the first path ... go right and then follow the dirt path halfway around with the next level of the hill to your left side. About half way around ... stop ... turn 180 degrees ... and look for a SECOND mossy path.

Follow this path up to the next level of Monument Hill. Once at the top ... turn left. Follow the dirt path ... keeping the hill above you on your right. At the end of the path ... stop. Turn 90 degrees to your right ... and you'll see a THIRD mossy path.

At the top of this path is the Cemetary and the Monument you are seeking. Do it in the day time unless you are at least level 7.

Good luck!

There are two mossy paths to get to the first level of the hill, for a total of 4 that I am aware of. One is located on the south side of the hill (I-8), and the other one is on the north side of the hill (I-5, approximately). The south path is the easier to find coming from Port Bastok.

1. Talk to Elki in Inn in Bastok Market (H-5).

2. Contents - He wants you to bring flowers to the monument for the pioneers of Palbrough mines.

3. There are ten names in the monument. The name of the client great grand father is Omran. The
monument is located at the top of the hill in North Gustberg J-7.

4. As a reward, you will receive a "Shtabaki" (Lv 8, Def 5, Mnk)

I just pulled this off of http://ffxi.crgaming.com
seems to be pretty accurate so far.

Heres what I know so far:
(going from memory so spelling may be off)

>Finding the monument
Zone is North Gustaburg. When you leave out of the North Gate in Bastok Port follow the road westward till you cross the first river at the bridge. After crossing the bridge cut to you right and follow the mountian wall. There will be a stand of trees and a green grassy pass up the hill. Hard to spot but its there. Keep going up until you come to the cemetery.

> The cemetery
Once at the cemetery there are a number of high lvl monsters (ie. goblin thugs, enchanted skeletons) and an obelisk at the southern most tip of the cemetery.

>Quest End
Never figured out how to use the bouquet. Was killed while flipping through the interface menus. If anyone completes this quest please post here how you did it.

RE: Zerik
# Nov 01 2003 at 1:18 PM Rating: Default
To use the bouquet, you just double click or otherwise activate the washington monument looking obelisk. Its the one with it's own staircase etc. THen it will ask you to lay the bouquet down.
