Description

Talk to the exorcist NPC in the city to begin the quest: Northern San d'Oria (D-8) Gertrude Bastok Markets (G-8) Brian Windurst Waters (F-5) Roger The exorcist would like to know why the spirits are roaming around and says that he cannot understand what they are saying, so he is enlisting the help of adventurers. Offer your assistance and the exorcist will give you a description of the ghost he would like you to follow and gives you several tips which lead to the following conclusions: - You must be wearing a costume to successfully do this. - The ghost cannot see you, so you must follow it and stay behind it. Find one of the NPCs dressed in a costume and trade a sweet until they award you with a costume. You can only trade one type of sweet per day. After you successfully obtain a costume, locate the ghost you were directed to find and follow it around, being careful to stay behind it. It will run around and stop occasionally, turning around looking for something. If the ghosts sees you, your costume will disappear and you will need to go get another one and start over. The ghost will ramble about things. You are not done until they say something along the lines of "You know my secret, leave me alone." Once they say this, head back to the exorcist NPC for your Witch Hat. If you speak to the Moogle Merchants while wearing the hat, you can purchase your home nation's lantern. You must wait until the next game day to try again for the second ghost. The quest is exactly the same only with a different ghost that isn't as predictable as the first. Once you discover the ghost's secret, head back to the exorcist for your Coven Hat. If you wear the Coven Hat while speaking to the Moogle merchants, you can purchase any of the three lanterns.

You dont have to stay directly behind the ghosts to do this. you just need to be close enough to hear the dialoge.

Id say you could stand about Provoke range and still hear the story.

The ghost looked right at me and did not spot me when they spun. I did this in windy, the ghosts there follow a circular patternw/o back tracking so that might have helped me do it this way.

For those wondering, the latent effect of the Coven Hat. the +3% HP activates on odd levels, and the +3% MP activates on even levels.

You're asked to chase the "second" witch again, (whomever that may be in your city). In Windy, I received Papillions for my effort. Received 11 at a time, yay! I finally have some butterfly wings ^^

well here goes my first info post:

this is for bastok, dunno about other nations, but your allegince doesn't matter. i walked someone from windy through the following steps and they got their furninshings.

to get all 3 lanterns you'll need to get a coven hat.
to do so start out in bastok markets. talk to the event NPC 'Brian'. he's near the fountain. he'll give you a speech on some ghosts that need exorcising.
the next step is the tricky part. get a 'sweet' (cheapest is best here) and trade it to any of the NPC 'Trick' mobs wandering around. they will either give you an event item (trick/treat staff, pumpkin heads etc.) or a monster costume. we want the costume for this. but its important to remember you can only trade one type of sweet for a prize each vana day. so, for example, if you trade a ginger cookie and get a costume; then try to trade another one... he'll just say thanks and nothing else.

ok once in costume, find the see through NPC "Selma" who is wandering back and forth between the goldsmith, and music shop. the goal here is to follow her so she tells you her whole story, but without her seeing you. if she sees you, you'll lose your costume and have to go get another to continue. after about minute of following her, she'll say "i want to be left alone", and you're half way done. Go talk to the event NPC Brian again and you'll get a witch hat. the witch hat will let you buy ONE lantern from the event moogles in port bastok, but we're here to get all three. so now you'll have to wait till the next vanadiel day...

ok once the new day is here go back to NPC Brian. he'll tell you there is another ghost to be exorcised. This time its 'Pretty Heart'. a galka wandering from the MH stairs to the magic shop. When you're ready do the same thing: get costume by trading sweets to 'Trick' mobs, and follow Pretty Heart without him seeing you. he's a little trickier to follow cause there are some blind turns. but it shouldn't take you too too long. but once you follow him for about a minute, he'll tell you "tell the exorcist i'm ready to leave"... thats your cue to talk to brian... once you do you'll get your coven hat...

now go to the event moogles in Port Bastok and you'll be able to buy each of the furnishings for 10k each.

i think the Bomb one looks awesome once set up. enjoy and hope this helped a bit

and just a little speculating here.... in order to get all other items... i've been told that its completely random, an dyou can only get one of them each vana day, but this is speculation so good luck.

These events are great. Help to take away from the stress of "getting another level". Now we get the stress of, "who the heck am I supposed to talk to in order to get that thingy... AHHHHH!!!". Good times...
