you have to have rank 2 to get into Bostaunieux Oubliette and then he wont give you the quest until you have fame 3 in sandy
rank 6 bastok traded 4 stacks of boyahda moss in selbina to the sheep guy and i was able to get this quest not having done any quests prior to this in sandy accept for dragoon quest
I just tried it with fame3 rank2-1 and no luck,,,im from windy and i need to start mission 2-3 for access to the chateau.

eeerrr im from bastock and ive done 10 quests for sandy and im rank 4 how do i check my fame for sandy, who and where is the person i talk to, to find my fame lv

go to the eastern most part of South San d'Oria and go into the Lion's Spring(i think that's what its called...same place as Eco-Warrior quest) and talk to the 2nd person on your Left when you go in....he should be behind a small table and against the wall standing up(i'ld give you his name but i can't remember it)

From my understanding, if you're from San d'Oria, you only need to have rank 2, otherwise, you'll need to be rank 3 and have triggered "The Emissary" cutscene in order to go in the castle. I'm not sure about how much fame you have to have... but I've done a bunch of quests several times and I've still not been able to do it.

How many moat carp would you have to trade in to get enough fame to do this quest?
I restarted my a new character, I have rank 2, im bastonian. I gave several stacks of Flint stones, Rabit hides, did the squires quest, the fliers quest, the medicine quest, and I still get thrown out of the castle. Now My question is, do you also have to unlock the cutscene doing Emissionary Mission to get into the place at all, or you just need fame? I understand you can still be rank 2, but im not certain if you can enter before the cutscene.

You have to be Rank 3 in Windy and Basty to be able to enter the castle, but only rank 2 Sandy to enter. That is the req'z to get in, then you need... I don't know how much, but you need some amount of fame to actually get the quest. They are two seperate things, hope this helps =D

I'm a resident of San d'Oria and I was a Rank 2 level 14 DRK when I did this quest. You might not have enough fame.

Well to start off i went to Selbina traded 4 stacks of cabbage, 4 of millioncorn and 1 boyahda moss.Ok,then I got to Sandy, i was determined. I traded stack upon stack upon stack of bat wings and flints. I then realize, i wonder what rank my fame is? I look online to find out what npc tells you fame. and lo and behold, i've got rank 6 fame LOL. i could've gotten drain 2 hrs b4 i did! hah. fun tho anyways. ya, good times.
u ppl should really read b4 u post, almost all the questions some of u asked are repeated in the previous post

doing this quest seems like a lot of hassle, and not really fair on blm in bastok or windurst.

(Note: The prices listed were on Fairy, so results may vary by server. I used Terfy's example below to get guide on how to go about getting fame. Also make sure to activate mission 2-3 so you can gain access to the Chateau.)
When I began this, I had NEVER been to San d'Oria or Rabao nor had I ever done a mission in Selbina.
When I first arrived in San d'Oria I traded a stack of flint stones for the Starting a Flame quest, 4 at a time. These stones were drops from maze makers, so I had no expenses. The quest gives 100 gill per 4 flints, so I made 300 gil.
Stats at this point...Total Expenses (TE): 0 gil, Total Rewards (TR): 300 gil, Profit/Loss (P/L): +300 gil, San d'Oria Fame (SDF): 1
Next, I warped back to Selbina and took the boat back to Mhaura. The boat costs 100 gil.
Stats at this point...TE: 100 gil, TR: 300 gil, P/L: +200 gil, SDF: 1
Next, I ran to Windy and purchased 6 stacks of bat wings at 1500 gil a piece. This cost me 9000 gil piece.
Stats at this point...TE: 9100 gil, TR: 300 gil, P/L: -8800 gil, SDF: 1
After warping back to Selbina and running to Sandy. I traded the bat wings, 2 at a time, for the Fear of the Dark quest in North Sandy. I got 200 gil per 2 bat wings, so I made 7200 from my 6 stacks. I checked my fame and it was now level 2
Stats at this point...TE: 9100 gil, TR: 7500 gil, P/L: -1600 gil, SDF: 2
Sice my fame was 2 and I didn' think I had to go back to windy, I bought 2 more stacks from the Sandy AH at 2000 per stack. I traded thes to the guy in North Sandy, for 2400 gil in total reward. I checked my fame after the 8 stacks and I now had fame level 3!(I checked my fame after trading 7 stacks, and it was only level 2).
Stats at this point...TE: 13100 gil, TR: 9900 gil, P/L: -3200 gil, SDF: 3
After this I went to the Chateau...and AHHHH..I couldn't get in. I FORGOT TO ACTIVATE MISSION 2-3. I set my homepoint in Sandy, rented a chocobo or 94 gil to go to Selbina and take the boat to Mhaura for 100 gil.
Stats at this point...TE: 13294 gil, TR: 9900 gil, P/L: -3394 gil, SDF: 3
Ran back to Windy. I checked the AH and got lucky to find a Vial of beastmen's blood for only 1000 gil. This is about 2000 gil on Fairy when you get it at the AH in Sandy. I activated Mission 2-3 and warped back to Sandy.
Final Stats...TE: 14294 gil, TR: 9900 gil, P/L: -4394 gil, SDF: 3
When I returned to Sandy, I talked to the consulate until told to go to the Chateau, then went to the prison. When you get to Bostaunieux Oubliette, go South unil reach the 1st intersection you can turn right. The only other option is to go straight, but you want to turn RIGHT. Novalmauge is walking in the middle of the corridor. Get the quest, trade the vial, listen to him babble, get the scroll.
So to recap: I had a net expenditure of 4394 gil. If I didn't ***** up I would have spent less. When you get the scroll you can sell it. I have seen it on Fairy between 20-25K. If I sold it I would be ahead 15-20K. Since I didn't I suppose I am still ahead because I can spend that money on something else! :-)

ok, stop counting the number of quests you have done to get the fame here... want high fame fast? do what i have done to get the scroll, *and* get enough fame elsewhere for other quests.

I needed high Norg fame, so i did the windy Yag necklaces and bastok zinc ore quest. Got enough fame to get the Utsusemi quest.
I also wanted enough fame to get the gobbiebag quests in Jeuno, so i did the "Only the best" quest in selbina. turned in like 35-40 stacks of millioncorn, got all four gabbiebags. (just buy from the regional vender, which was for me bastok at the time, and we controlled valkrum dunes outpost. outpost tele back and forth.)
Now my Blm (which i just now started to play) is close to lvl 12, headed to windy to see what my fame was... headed straight to Novalmauge upon getting into the city. bingo, cutscene, gave him the blood, he gave me Scroll: Drain. woohoo!
kill two, well 5, birds with one stone. Do the selbina quest, get the gobbiebags quests, and get your scroll of drain for cheap. AH blood cost me 1250 in windy before i left, was 1500 in bastok. 1800ish in sandy.
Selbina is the one linked with Sandy right? cause the 2 Norg fame quests and the Selbina quest are the only repeatables i have done multiple times over...

Sandy fame=high enough to get scroll: Drain
Jeuno fame=high enough to get all 4 gobbiebag quests done
bastok fame=dunno... haven't checked in quite awhile, rarely in bastok anymore. lol
windy fame=last time i checked lvl 4.
most of my quests, are done in windurst. just so i could get the other repeatable quest in giddeus to make the yag necklace farming a bit less of a loss.
up to you, many many quests in sandy to get it, or take a few hours out of your day and trade millioncorn to the sheep guy in selbina.

People who are only rank 2 sandoria can hardly afford to do the goobiebags quests,can they?

Wow Just the two quests. Hmm. Maybe your other fame had an effect on your Sandy fame? I have only Fame Level 2 in my home city Windurst.
I had to do the following quests:
Fear of the Dark (7 stacks of Bat Wings @ 700 gil each)

The Pickpocket
Starting a Flame (1 stack of Flint Stones 600 gil)
The Rumor (beastman blood 1500 gil)

Regardless. Still super easy and way less expensive than buying Drain from the AH. I spent about 7k in total. Drain was 27k on AH when I check right after receiving it.

Rank has nothing to do with fame... Rank is affected by missions which you get from gateguards and such. Fame is increased each time you do a quest... You can check your fame level at some NPC's (your level depends on what they say to you).

If in San D' Oria You do to the Tavern and talk to a guy on the far left before you go down teh stairs.

I was on three kingdoms quest, after I killed the dragon I came back, bought 9 stacks of bat wings and traded them to Secodian (F-6 NSan'D) 2 at a time, and I was able to get the quest. I had no prior fame in Sandy. I tried to get the quest after 5 stacks, but it wouldnt work.
I had a LS-mate send me bat wings from Windurst AH because price was 2-300 cheaper (1.6k). All in all I spent 4000 gill for a scroll that usually sells for 12-20k. Granted you need at least 14k to do the quest from scratch and be on mission 2-3, it pays to do a little research.

You need to be Rank 2 if you're from San d'Oria, or on Mission 2-3 if you're not.

I know I have more than 3 fame and i'm rank 2 in the middle of getting my rank 3.. but he won't give me the quest??

Major props to Smudgeous for his detailed description of the quest.
I followed this to the letter - Seven stacks of bat wings, found the NPC, and he gave me Drain w/o any problems.

When he asks you if you believe hes a vampire or not I am pretty sure it doesn't matter what you pick. I picked I believed he was a vampire and he said ahh nevermind since your a kind soul or something like that and you still get the reward.

I am from windurst, rank one. you can enter the chateau as soon as you complete the "Rosel, the armorer" quest

*I* am from Windurst, rank one. I have already completed the "Rosel, the Armorer" quest and I am still barred entry. Words cannot describe my frustration. Actually, on second thought, there are plenty of words to describe it, but I just don't want to be banned.
